The temperature of my 1x gets extremely high sometimes, especially when I play games, what is the highest possible safe temperature and at which temperatures is it risky to keep playing? Also, will this be fixed?

Yes.
It might be only placebo effect, but browsing with Dolphin Browser HD heated less One X than stock browser. It might have been only a coincidence and I haven't tested enough to reach conclusions. Yet, other users might confirm or infirm this impression.
This can’t be the normally operating temperature range. When my battery temp gets to 55 Deg C it reports the battery state as “overheat”. This can’t be good...
Ever since I used a custom rom my phone doesn't get any where near as hot, must be something with stock.

I played Riptide GP for a while and topped at ~38 Degrees. Even a 40 Minute Google Maps Navigation with attached Car Charger topped @ around 36-37 Degrees. Perfectly fine for me, tho other Games (or Demos) like Glowball which REALLY stress the GPU and CPU due to its graphics demo category heat up the phone to like 43 Degrees.
Other than that, I dont have any problems. I only start up Glowball for a couple of seconds to show off graphics power, not to do anything scientific in there.
EDIT: And what should I say. My standby time is around 26 Degrees when not in my pocket. In my pocket it goes up to 31-32 degrees, but thats normal since the casing kind of absorbs the heat of your body at some point.
When I surf the web for like 30 Minutes, my device never gets hotter than 34-35 degrees, even in comfy warm surroundings (like my flat).
The heat discribed in that article seems a little intense... Maybe there is a faulty batch with heat issues? The One X sure gets warm, but so did my old Galaxy S2 and on top of all, the old Motorola Milestone which became a rough ear heater when doing calls for more than 40 Minutes.
I had a 60 Minute call with my bro 2 days ago, and my One X just got up to 29 degrees... Dunno whats going on there. I always have temperature sensor apps running the first few weeks after I bought a new device.
>>>>“If the phone is in normal use without playing games or calling for long time, the temperature should be around 37°C or 38°C. But if you use your phone to play games or surfing internet for a long time, it will be normal that the temperature rises to around 55°C.“, official statement from HTC. <<<<
This is the one major gripe I have about the One X. It should not heat up to 50C no matter what. It may be "normal" for the One X, but it's not normal or good in general. I hope the next firmware update addresses this. I've gone through god knows how many phones and the heating issue is by far the worst with this phone. Some surfing and apps running for about 10 minutes should not warrant a jump to 40+ degrees in my opinion...
Hi all,
My phone is so hot! Over 50C Battery temperature. I can hardly hold it...
Am I the only one?
Bizar...

Yes, you are the only one! Most ppl can withstand even greater temperatures.

Actually 50c is around the point where the heat triggers a pain response.
As for the heat no you're not the only one, if you are rooted you can use core control to turn off cores to lower heat.
If you're not rooted or unlocked then take it back it is an issue.

My phone too gets hot and so does my mates HOX. I can hit temps up too 54 even 59. Common issue so they say
My hox got to 57 on 1.29... Now on the new test firmware it will just hit 50, most times its around 45 on tegra games... Wait it out. The temperatures aren't right but they'll be fixed soon.
Hi all, not sure where you're getting the actual degree values from or I'd share.
Anyhow, my HOX used to get so friggin hot I thought it would combust, and that was just from normal use for maybe 30 minutes tops. That was all stock, and with a couple ROMs I tried before.
However, now it never gets even slightly warm... yesterday I used it nearly 8 hrs straight, not even slightly warm. I'm on eXoDiZeD ROM, it's included stock kernel, and using No-Frills CPU with max 1.5GHz and min 102MHz, ondemand.
I see absolutely no performance loss, but get easily 2-3x longer battery life, and amazingly no heat at all, not even screen gets warm like it used to. Just my two cents for the pot.
My hox is relly coold..
But have no program to check the temp on it
Maby you can tell me some?
Mine gets up to 45 max.. Did never notice higher temperatures
Battery widget by Elvison shows temp
The highest I have seen is 42 degrees running 1.28

When quoting temps you should state whether its battery or CPU. The latter can and will be hotter

My One X actually got so hot that it fried my processor. HTC replaced it for me. I had a Malaysian One X and they replaced it with a European One X. This one still gets hot but nowhere near as hot as my old one. I would have to put my old one down because I couldn't stand to hold it any longer especially because that metal ring around the camera would burn me.

Hello XDA ! I have an HTC One X. I have been using it and now I started to track my Battery temperatures. I am running ARHD 7.1.0 Custom Rom and my battery temps in my house in IDLE are about 26-30 Degrees. When I start using it inside afer about 5-10 mins of playing Dead Trigger or Real Racing 2 the temps are about 45-47 and after 30-40 mins they are about 50 degrees and I dont think this is normal for a battery. The phone becomes untouchabe at the top. Today I was just browsing the web outside (where its really hot - about 38-40 degrees) and after 5 mins the battery was 56 degrees JUST FROM BROWSING ! I wanted to ask if this is normal with every HOX and is there any fix. Sorry for my bad english
HTC says it's normal for your phone to reach such temperatures -_-. But the 2.05 base leak has temperature fixes. My hox doesn't get that hot as often as it used to after I installed Arhd 7.1.0
And yes my phone also got that hot just by browsing internet.

So if I continue using the phone after the battery is over 45 degrees I won't damage it ? I always stop doing everything if the temp goes over 45. And what are your temperatures ?
Yeah nothing should happen. Mine is around 40C

Mine also gets quite hot. Next time it does I will take a reading and post back.
@Op,
Use it not abuse it.
Why don't you tell your experience to the developer of the custom rom rather then opening a new thread?
Like this you won't get an answer, a waist of space.
@laurentius26
I didn't think he was talking about the ROM, its a HOX problem.
Lot of people are facing it and 2.05 base seems to have fixed it for most of them. Mine still heats up while browsing once in a while but its much MUCH lesser than before.
@OP
Try another rom if you think ARHD is the problem. Imo the rom isn't the problem.

Battery should be rated for 60c should be kept under that.
CPU has a thermal cut out at 99c

Forgive me but if that's the case then I still say the Op could use one of the

HOX Overheating after 5 minutes I never experienced myself.

Right a search must be done.
Lucky you are to not have had your hox heat up. Mines reached points where I couldn't charge it while browsing on edge because the battery was overheated. The new base however my phone barely heats up. But then my usage has changed compared to when I was on 1.29
Sent from my HTC One X
My Hox (old one... Currently at repair center) gets 47c outside in the top of screen and camera (yes I use a laser temperature meter), battery at 53, and CPU at 94c... After 15/20 minutes of playing tegra games, or just stressing CPU for 10 min using stability test.

Using or not using? If just heat in charging, its faulty. Confirm with HTC support.

So is there a way to lower the temperatures becouse when my phobe gets hot, yellow dots appear on the screen. Oh and.bcz of the temps i have a little bit flex screen on the top. And sorry for not using the search .....

Currently I have played Shadowgun THD for a couple of minutes and now I'm using Xda premium and also browsing the Internet. My cpu didn't go above the 45°c The higher temperature is only because of the game, on regular use my device temperature stays constant.

you`re wrong
its not cpu temp for sure its bat temp for cpu temp use sytem tools and go cpu
pic.1 look at current widget for batt. temp.
pic.2 look cpu temp.
I almost burn mine out the other day... It even turned itself off... (I fell asleep whilst playing Max Payne with the phone on charge). I would say it got to about 70oC! THANK GOD FOR AUTO SWITCH OFF ON TEGRA 3
@Darkony, yep you're right indeed.
The CPU temperature goes up and down from 40 till 70 degrees on my device depending
on uses (it reaches 70 degrees but cools down very quickly as well).
The battery temperature reaches 47 degrees, (4 runs with StabilityTest app).
after two months of owning the HOX and now running the leaked the 2.05
it never overheats or blinks or whatever
it does get a little hot during non stop heavy gaming but thats it
i can even play on the charger
My big concern is the 47c in the top of screen :/ really hot you cant touch or answer a call

Hi!
Yesterday purchased HTC One M9 and I recognized that it's way too much overheating than my old one Samsung Note2.
It's normal that after browsing on the web I can't handle it normally in my hand?
Battery temperature being 37-40 celcius. But all device is way too hot.
What is your experience?
Thanks,
Domas
Not that I had problem with it
I know it is hot.... Remember the body is aluminium which generate heat more than Sammy phone. It's not gonna melt anything but kinda annoying. Try a case and battery cooling app from playstore. It helps a bit

do the OTA update .. the firmware it ships with is Beta and runs hotter than normal
It's not beta, it has higher cpu clock 2,0 GHz that's the difference. And it throttles faster. The new one has 1,6 GHz. And it isn't getting that hot ?
I did the ota update and mine hasn't gotten hit since .js

Mine doesn't get hot on normal use or watch videos. But it get hot when I have a lot of apps to update. But, it cools down after and not very often I have that many apps update at once.
Mine gets warm even under normal usage. It gets very warm using sat nav or anything intensive.
Mine got to 51c during a backup: extremely hot!

Mine gets very warm when running Google Navigation or connecting to HTC's very own RE camera. However, neither these are new since I have the same problem with the m7. I use a car vent mount in the car when using Navigation to cool down the phone at the same time.
Mine gets very hot under regular usage, up to 45-50 degrees.
I'm on firmware 1.36.709.3
Can you post your firmware versions?
Thank you all.
I'm on latest firmware .33 and mine has gotten as high at 175*F. I put it right in my freezer which is at 23*F and it cooled in 10 minutes down to 32*F and warmed back up to a normal temp.
My firmware is 1.32.401.17
It gets hot under stress, other then that it gives off normal warmth
Thank you.
Anyone knows what is the latest firmware? and the one supposed to take care of the overheating issue?
Mine overheats a lot while on charge and heavy use when I have screen on for an hour or more
My G4 feels very hot in my pants pocket (to the point I need to switch the pocket its in, or take it out for a bit), but when I check the temperature it is only around 50c - 60c. Is this a normal temperature, or is my phone's temperature actually above the norm?
Not normal in idle, that is for sure. Mine gets very hot when using mobile data and the screen is above 60% brightness. Having 8 tabs in chrome gets mine very hot, wtf, I'm not gaming... I noticed this a few days ago, never bothered me before. I didn't change anything lately, using stock 20D (ota from 20A).
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Cpu temp wise, normally it hovers around 33C and goes up to 60C while gaming.
Surface temp wise it doesn't get burning hot
I'm on 20e MM
I got it over 60 while browsing, using mobile data and 100% brightenes. I never play games on the phone.
