How to downgrade to the stock ROM on the Xperia ARC - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I am currently using CM9 on my Xperia ARC, there are certain bugs which disallow me to use my Video camera and there are some WiFi issues too. Since the official ICS update is already out for the Xperia Arc, I wanted to rollback to the stock OS.
Can someone please guide me through the entire process or even point out to a post on this forum that will help me in doing so.
I went across many suggested post but there were none for the Xperia ARC.
Thank You.

This is the latest framework for xperia ARC " NOT ARC S "
http://www.mediafire.com/?rtoaz2tc6c7bsjc
simply .. download , extract , flash through flashtool .. It contains baseband , kernel and ROM, all in one =)
BTW , It's not Rooted since It's the latest Official framework
Use the Search button for the Root ..
regards ..

I think the user above means firmware, not framework.
Anyway it's easy, just use Flashtool and official FTF file. As you said you were running CM9 you must already have an unlocked bootloader. These steps are for unlocked bootloader phone and this is how I did it on my Xarc.
Go to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1330314
and download official LT15i 4.1.B.0.431 Generic Global World (big bold letters, you can't miss it in post #1)
Unrar this file to get the official Sony 4.0.4 FTF.
Then go to:
http://androxyde.github.com/Flashtool/
Click the tab that says "Installation".
(I assume you are running MS Windows)
Download Full Install, Windows Edition - v0.8.0.0
Download Updates, Windows Edition - v0.8.5.0
On your computer run installer v0.8.0.0 first, then run v0.8.5.0 to make it the latest version of Flashtool. Flashtool by default installs to c:\flashtool and doesn't create a shortcut in start menu, so you will have to find it with file explorer (My Computer).
Power off phone. Do not connect data cable yet!
Run Flashtool.
Drag the FTF file onto the Flashtool window.
In the window that appears, leave everything as is, but tick "No final verification" in the bottom right corner.
Click "OK" and wait a few seconds.
When the message appears, hold down the back button on your phone and insert the data cable.
Notification LED should turn green and Flashtool begins flashing the firmware.
Wait until flashing is complete. Flashtool will say "Ending flash session" and say something about phone rebooting when it is finished. Wait about a minute after these messages appear and you can then unplug the data cable.
Now for Clockworkmod:
Go to:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1680793
and download LT15i Arc v2 from first post.
This is the stock kernel with CWM added.
With phone powered off, hold down menu button and insert data cable. Notification LED should turn blue.
Run Flashtool. Flashtool should say "Device connected in fastboot mode"
Click the button in Flashtool which looks like a lightning bolt (the button furthest to the left.) Tick "Fastboot mode" and click OK.
On right side "Select Kernel to flash", find the kernel with CWM you just downloaded and "Open" it.
Kernel flashes in just a few seconds.
You can now unplug data cable and start up the phone. You can give a quick run through the start up settings, language selection etc. before we root. (The only real reason I said to start up the phone is to make it easier to transfer the Superuser install zip to your sdcard from Windows.)
Now root:
Go to:
http://androidsu.com/superuser/
and download Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip
from the Eclair/Froyo/Gingerbread/Honeycomb/IceCreamSandwich (2.1 – 4.0.3) section.
In the settings menu of your phone: Menu > Settings > Xperia > Connectivity > USB coonection mode: Choose Mass storage mode (MSC)
Connect the data cable.
When your sdcard appears as a drive in Windows, copy the Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip file onto it.
Unplug data cable and power off your phone.
It's important to watch the notification LED for the next bit!
With phone off press the power button as normal when turning on.
Once the Sony logo appears, watch the LED.
When LED turns blue start pressing the Menu button. You have less than 3 seconds to do this!
This takes you into the Clockworkmod recovery.
Use volume up/down move up and down. To confirm use Home button.
Select "Install zip from sdcard" > "Choose zip from sdcard" >
Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip > Yes - Install Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip
Once the install completes you can go back and "reboot system now"
Your phone should now be rooted.
Good luck.

Yes, with a few small changes I believe this should sort you out. As you are using Arconium MiUi I take it that you have unlocked bootloader.
I used this method on my own Xarc to downgrade to GB after testing out some of the first ICS roms in April, so I know this works.
The FTF file you need will be LT15i 4.0.2.A.0.62 Generic Global World which is the latest official GB 2.3.4 from Sony. (Note, this particular version can only be rooted on an unlocked bootloader.)
IMPORTANT: Never downgrade arc to a version of GB older than 2.3.4, because you will get the 0% battery problem which can not be repaired. The safe FTF files are LT15i 4.0.2.A.0.42 or LT15i 4.0.2.A.0.62 which are both GB 2.3.4 .
The main change is when it comes to the Superuser/root and CWM steps.
I would do it in this sequence:
1. Flash the GB FTF
2. Boot up the Gingerbread and copy the Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip to the sdcard from Windows. (You can of course also put Superuser on the sdcard at the start if you wish. I just like to see that the unrooted firmware is working okay before I make any changes to the system files.)
3. Instead of flashing a kernel to the phone, I use Flashtool to "hotboot" a kernel with CWM recovery.
4. I use CWM of "hotboot" kernel to install the Superuser/root the phone.
In greater detail:
1. Get LT15i 4.0.2.A.0.62 Generic Global World from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18997655&postcount=1
Flashing this FTF is same steps as for the ICS in previous post.
2. This part is straightforward, just get the Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip on to the sdcard.
3. From http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18997655&postcount=1 scroll down to heading "[Tutorial]Root with recoveryLT15i". Download the file "Recovery.rar" from that section.
Extract the file recoveryARC.img from the RAR file.
Although the RAR also contains instructions for using commands to hotboot, I personally think the easiest way is to use Flashtool.
So we want to hotboot "recoveryARC.img" :
Start Flashtool.
With phone powered off, hold down Menu button and insert data cable.
Notification LED should turn blue.
Flashtool should now say: "Device connected in fastboot mode"
Click the button in Flashtool which looks like a lightning bolt (the button furthest to the left.) Tick "Fastboot mode" and click OK.
On left side "Select Kernel to Hotboot", find "recoveryARC.img" you just extracted and "Open" it.
Wait a minute while phone starts up. You do not need to press anything, it goes directly into Clockworkmod recovery.
Now you can proceed to root the phone from CWM.
4. The only difference is that in this version of CWM you must use power button to confirm your selections rather than Home button. Otherwise rooting GB from CWM is same steps as ICS in my previous post.
Disconnect data cable and reboot. Gingerbread should now be rooted.
Good luck!

Thanks a lot mate..It really worked. Now I am back on GB with Internal space problem solved.
Your detailed post really helped..Now I can go for any GB custom ROM..

RxHy

A factory reset wont do the job!
http://talk.sonymobile.com/message/198483#198483 . A well-explained thread, and assuming you dont want/(haven't yet) to root your your phone(since u recently bought it),you can use this.Or else a better option would be rooting it and using a custom gb rom, since it gives you a much better experience.Use the search for rooting or other info.

Simple guide:
1.- Download flashtool. In the folder you install it you will find drivers folder. Run the program and install drivers for your device (if they aren''t installed yet)
2.- Download any 2.3.4 GB firmware, I would recommend you 4.0.2.A.0.62 firmware. 4.0.2.A.0.62 firmware for ARC S // 4.0.2.A.0.62 firmware for ARC. Introduce that firmware you downloaded in the folder firmwares (inside the flashtool directory)
3.- Turn down your phone. In flashtool, press the thunderbolt symbol, and press flashmode. Then, a list will appear. You must select the 4.0.A.0.62 fw you downloaded (and inserted in Flashtool/firmwares). When the PC is ready, will ask u to connect the phone in flashmode. Press back key and then connect the phone to the computer. A green light will appear in ur led. When finished, take the phone and reboot, you will have Gingerbread 2.3.4 in stead of ICS 4.0.4
Hope I helped u!

It does sound like a safe file.
Install the drivers from Flashtool folder 'drivers' (by default C:\Flashtool\drivers).

[ROM][ARC/S]JELLY SANDWICH 4.5[09.09] Sonys logo problen

Well people, I have some problens on my Xperia Arc S GSM
The problem is the rom don't out Sony's logo
I found a Answer to me Question but I don't know how to fallow him
"locked bootlaoder ?
If so you need to flash an official ICS rom with flashtool, root it again, and reinstall x-parts.
Now you should be able to enter cwm.
Then do the full wipe and format system, and flash 4.4 Jelly sandwich.
Always remember that x-parts installs a recovery in the /system folder, not in the kernel (as it is on unlocked bootloaders), so if your rom is messed up, you can't access the recovery anymore and need to reinstall x-parts again, and for this to be done, you need to flash an official rom with flashtool first then root it."
How to Flash Official ICS on flashtool ?
Please, I live in a 3 world country called Brazil, when this phone cost about US$ 700 ! and the minium wage is US$ 350
And if my father discover that I in dead!
Please, I just want to bring my phone back to life
Please HELP ME!
Sorry for my poor English, Brazilian...
:crying::crying::crying:
Try
Use sony update service to repair the phone or flash a generic ROM.
For flashing ROM:
1. You need latest flashtool. Get from here http://androxyde.github.com/Flashtool/
2. ROM (in .ftf format) - Download the ROM that you need.(Search in xda forum)
The methods and procedures discussed here are considered risky and you should not attempt anything if you don’t know completely what it is. Do this only if you’re capable of getting your phone back right on your own. If any damage occurs to you or your device, we won’t be held liable. You only will be responsible — you’ve been warned. Okay!
This process will clear all user data and applications.(contacts, messages, call data, apps, apps data etc.,) . Please take backup of all your data before you start.
Instructions:
1. Switch off your phone and put it aside.
2. Extract the “FlashTool_x.x.x.x.exe” file on your PC (you can just double click on it to extract)
3. Few files and folders will be extracted — the two which we’ll be using are the ‘drivers‘ folder and the ‘firmwares‘ folder.
4. Inside the ‘drivers‘ folder there’s a file named “ggsetup-2.2.0.10.exe”, double click on this file to install the proper driver on your PC.
5. Now copy the “.ftf” firmware file that you downloaded for your phone, and paste it inside the “firmwares” folder.
6. Double click the “X10FlashTool.exe” file.
7. Once the program opens — click on the “Flash” button.
8. You’ll see the firmware that you copied in Step 5 loaded on the screen — click “Ok”!
9. Now it should ask you to connect your phone to the PC. So first plug the USB cable to PC, then pick up your phone and hold the “Back” key (key at the bottom left on
your Arc), and then connect the USB cable to your phone. Remember you’ve to hold the “Back” key while connecting the USB cable to phone.
10. Once the phone gets connected — Flashtool will automatically start the flashing process.
11. Keep an eye on the Flashtool’s screen.
12. And once the process gets finished, disconnect your phone from PC and switch it ON.
13. Don’t freak if it takes longer to boot (that’s normal) as the phone has to build the cache again after flashing.
Enjoy!!!
Hit "Thanks" if anyone helped you. :good:

[Q][Xperia Arc][LT15i] Clear threads on rooting and flashing custom ROMs?

Hi, I have a sister who uses Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc LT15i, Android 2.3.3, build version 2.6.32.9-perf, but I haven't tweaked with Sony Ericsson phones before so I don't know anything about her Arc's kernel and stuff.
She has problems with her device lately (lagging, response is slow etc.) and wants to root and flash it with a stable ROM, preferably as new and as fast. I tried helping her by finding threads on this forum, but there are too many stuff need looking through, and my eyes hurt just by looking at them builds and codes (too many broken links and complicated instructions).
Anyone can redirect me to a thread where it has clear and simple instructions as well as availability of downloads to links and software needed for the root/flash?
This is recalling from memory and the links that I have saved. I'm not going to go about doing searches to verify stuff for you, but the steps I've outlined below should sufficiently deal with the queries that you have.
A) Unlock the bootloader. Follow the instructions.
http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/
B) Download and install Flashtool.
http://androxyde.github.com/index.html?1363797001000
C) Install the drivers in the "drivers" folder under the Flashtool installation directory (c:\flashtool). Tick the XPERIA Arc option, and tick Fastboot (should be at the end).
D) Download stock .587 ICS firmware. Place it into the "firmwares" folder in the Flashtool directory.
http://xperiadev.wordpress.com/flashtool/xperia-ftf-firmwares/
E) Download the following kernel. Place it into the "firmwares" folder in the Flashtool directory.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1838916
F) Start Flashtool. Power off your phone. Keeping the "back" button (the first button from the left) pressed, connect your phone to your computer using a USB cable. Let the drivers install. Once your device shows up as connected in Flashtool, click the "Flash" icon, select Flashmode, and select the .587 firmware that you've downloaded. Wait till you get the message that the software's been flashed to your phone.
G) Start your phone. See if the firmware's been installed and everything is working fine. If so, power it off again. Then, keep the menu/shortcut button (the first from the right, whatever the hell it is called) pressed and connect your phone to the USB port of your computer. Let the drivers install. Once you get the message that your phone's been connected in Fastboot mode, click the "Flash" icon, select Fastboot, click "Select kernel to flash," select the kernel you've downloaded earlier, and let the software flash it to your phone.
H) Power up your phone, see if everything's working. If so, you're done and ready to flash some custom ROMs. The instructions on how to do that will be clearly outlined in the ROM's thread.
I) If the phone doesn't start, then congratulations! You have a brick and a very angry little sister. Better run and hide!
Hmmm..
The link in part D is not functioning. Any other links available to this?
Was working fine yesterday. Anyways, you can download the firmware from here:

[GUIDE FOR NOOBS] How to update XPERIA S to Android 4.1.2 JELLY BEAN | STEP by STEP

This question will be posted a dozen times across several threads, thus, I decided to write a step-by-step, fool proof, noob-oriented simple guide; if somebody asks "how to", please feel free to point him/her to this thread to avoid spamming the main discussion / development threads
If you have some experience and this is not your first time flashing go to POST 2 for a quick guide and some tips, without explanations and notes
STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
How to update the Sony Xperia S
to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean
NOTICE 1: This guide will update your Xperia S from ANY previous version to OFFICIAL SONY JELLY BEAN ANDROID 4.1.2 (version 6.2.B.0.200, released May 30th 2013)
NOTICE 2: This guide is for WINDOWS PC USERS, if you have a Mac I can't help you, but the process is very similar
NOTICE 3: This update has nothing to do with SIM unlock, bootloader lock/unlock, root, etc. It doesn't matter if your phone is rooted or not, bootloader unlocked or not because it's the official firmware update
NOTICE 4: The internal SD card contents will NOT be deleted but everything else inside your phone will be reseted to factory defaults because this is a major update, so do a backup if you want to keep call logs, SMS etc. I only backup my SMS and Whatsapp messages, google backs up everything else because I have the backup option activated in settings
NOTICE 5: Your phone needs to be at least at 50% BATTERY CHARGE before updating ("flashing") the firmware. I recommend a full charge, just in case something happens and you need to do it again
Click to collapse
STEP 1:
Download the Flashtool
You will find the installers here: http://androxyde.github.com/Flashtool/
Go to the "installation" tab, download Flashtool installer v0.9.11.0 and run it
You will have a new folder on your PC: c:\Flashtool
STEP 2:
Download the Jelly Bean firmware update
You will find a link to download the official firmware update here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2302419, download it, say "thanks" to Yakandu, and come back here
SOME NOTICES (I know you are gonna ask):
- That firmware is the plain Sony Generic firmware and works fine for ANY region and has ALL the languages and keyboards included
- The linked firmware is already prepared to be flashed via Flashtool in .FTF format. If you download the firmware from another source it may be compressed with RAR or ZIP ("zipped") and you may need to EXTRACT the .FTF file with WinRAR or ZIP or 7ZIP. if you don't have WinRAR download it from here: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
STEP 3:
Let's update the phone!
- Copy the firmware FTF file to c:\Flashtool\Firmwares
- Go to c:\Flashtool\Drivers and run "Flashtool-drivers.exe" to install the proper drivers for Xperia S
- After installing the USB drivers reboot your PC
- Go to c:\Flashtool and run "FlashTool" (run "FlashTool64" if you have Windows 64 bits)
- Click the flash button (yes: the thunder icon up left)
- Select "Flahsmode" and click "OK"
- Select the "LT26 6.2.B.0.200" FTF firmware and click "OK", DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING ELSE
(TIP: If your Flashtool version doesn't have the "OK" button then just double-click the FTF)
- Flashtool will prepare the files for flashing, just be patient
- A Window will pop up asking you to connect the phone in "Flashmode" showing instructions for an old Xperia phone: ignore it, here is how the Xperia S enters "Flashmode":
- Turn off the phone
- Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN key
- Keep it pressed, connect the USB cable to your PC
- Release the Volume Down key when phone's GREEN LED lights up
- Flashtool will start flashing automatically, let it finish to 100%, it takes some minutes
- Disconnect the USB cable when Flashtool reaches 100% and indicates flashing has finished giving some extra info about activating debugging mode etc (don't care, that's optional)
- Turn on your phone (press and hold the Power button until it vibrates or screen turns on)
- The first boot takes some minutes, don't worry let your phone prepare your Jelly Beans for you
- Have fun !! :highfive:
PS1: PLEASE REMEMBER TO SAY "THANKS" to Yakandu (for the FTF firmware) and Androxyde (for the Flashtool)
PS2: And the usual disclaimer, of course: Follow the steps and be careful, I am not responsible if you brick your phone, burn your house, blow your PC or miss the rapture because you followed this guide; I am just sharing what I did to update my own phone  and it worked for me

I have the latest version of flashtool (v 0.9.10.1). I am successfully able to flash any ICS ftf through it. But when i try to flash the .200 Jb firmware, I get an error in the flashtool (installation aborted) and it is asking for drivers. I guess its because the flashtool includes drives for ICS only?

Drivers are for the PC, not the phone, it doesn't matter which android version you have on your phone.
My advice would be:
- Uninstall Flashtool
- Delete the flashtool folder
- Reinstall flashtool (make sure you really have the latest version)
- Try again
If you still can't flash, try Flashtool Beta6 and please report back
You can find Flashtool Beta6 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2162907
how about the option of wipe or don't wipe? ha've unchecked those options and no problem at all, just a litle laggy on the main screen
How do you root this JB version? I really want to root but have no idea how
Hi! I have installed this update and everything works accept for Play Store (Unfortunately, Google Play Store has stopped).

Drivers are for the PC, not the phone, it doesn't matter which android version you have on your phone.
My advice would be:
- Uninstall Flashtool
- Delete the flashtool folder
- Reinstall flashtool (make sure you really have the latest version)
- Try again
If you still can't flash, try Flashtool Beta6 and please report back
You can find Flashtool Beta6 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2162907

Tried flashing with the beta version. Still the same error. Installed the drives twice from the drivers folder in Flashtool. No luck
EDIT -
I turned the USB debuging OFF and it worked

Curious detail, nice to hear you succeded
Mine won't do it. When it asks for the flash mode, I press the volume down and power button, the green led lights up but the program won't recognize it, it keeps the window open.

Why the power button? It's not required. Read the guide again, carefuly.
yeah, I actually don't know where I got it from, but I tried with the volume button alone and it doesn't recognize either =/
Managed to do it, instead of selecting xperia S, I cancelled that window, it then easily recognized my flash mode and installed it
FUNNY
Cosa chistosa OP pensé que tendría JB con PCC de manera oficial, pero tendré que pasar por el método otra vez! jaja
Bueno, veremos si lo instala.
Gracias por tu tiempo y esfuerzo:laugh:
thank you

Please don't create a new thread.. Search first and then read.. Read and read more..
The link provided for Xperia-S_Relock_bootloader.ftf is dead. If someone has the file and would be so kind as to mirror it it would be awesome. I would have posted on the original thread, but it's in the developer section and I am not allowed to post there. I have tried google search to find an alternative and I have come across one file with the same name, I flashed it with Flashtool and now my Xperia S won't boot, I can get into flashmode and fastboot but that's it.

Thank you very much. This worked. I didn't know flashing a stock .ftf firmware would re-lock my bootloader. It did I flashed LT26i_6.1.A.2.50_1257-5499_WORLD and after that was able to upgrade through PC-companion without any problems. Thank you for the help.

[Q] Sony Xperia ZL / root

I tried many times to root the phone, unfortunately i couldn't.
Special thanks to user destroyedbeauty, he adviced my ( in PM ) step by step how to do it, but still no success.I followed the steps very careful.
When i tried to root, i didn't check USB Debugging & Unknown Sources.
Should i ?
Is there a way to install apps which require root, on the phone with no root ?
Below are the steps i tried to root the phone, adviced by the mentioned user.
I rather recommend that you install an kernel with pre-configed root access (Doomkernel / Advanced Stock kernel / XzK-kernel) by using built-in Fastboot in Flashtool. By doing this method, do this!!!:
1) Download kernel ZIP from specific kernel thread in "Xperia Z (Original) Android Development" thread section. Take anyone of these below, I also link Advanced Stock Kernel if you want complete stock Sony kernel with added init.d / root / recovery add-on / built-in!;
a) Xz-Gaming v1.0
b) XzK-Kernel v11.0
c) Doomkernel v19
d) AdvancedStockkernel
OBS!! Choice latest kernel from list in each thread for getting latest kernel that is optimized and made for your installed FW. Otherwise, problems can occur..
2) Extract boot.img from downloaded ZIP and put boot-file in Flashtool > Firmwares. After this, copy the same zip to your phone external / internal-SD card. Leave it there and continue read..
3) Turn off your phone and hold volume up, then connect phone to USB-cable. Keep an eye on LED notify lamp, see if it blinking blue - then you're connected in fastboot mode between phone and PC!
4) Open up Flashtool and push on the "Bolt-Button". Select fastboot, then go to firmware subfolder in your Flashtool folder on HDD and select extracted boot.img. Read log in flashtool, read it carefully. If everything seems to be normal, disconnect your phone and boot it up.
5) Go into recovery mode by either hammering volume up / volume down button and then choice "Install ZIP" option. Search after your ZIP file in recovery that contains boot.img and wifi-specific modules (critical for getting working WIF / Bluetooth!!).
6) After completed flashing, wipe cache and Dalvik cache (Dalvik can be found under Advanced section in recovery).
7) Reboot and voilá! Enjoy your custom kernel!
I only tried with "AdvancedStockkernel"
After step 4, the display stays black, nothing happent, no boot, no Sony logo, nothing.
I want to mention one more think : when i unlocked the bootloader 2 days ago, i followed this link :
http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/
It was successful. On the next step I was asked to write my email / imei / etc !!! Everything went ok.
After that, i tried to root and something went wrong, so i flashed whole .67 FTF in flashmode, again. Now is stock
Is the bootloader still unlocked, after i flashed .67 ftf in flashmode ? Could that be the reason i can't root the phone ?
Should i try again to unlock the bootloader, before i start again to root ?
Please help me guys.
Thank you

Everything you need is in development section dude.. It's better to search instead of typing so much. Remember. just follow the procedure exactly..
