My usb port is broken. I want to take it to sprint, they say it would be 30 dollars to fix which I think is a steal, but i am running cm9. If I flash it to stock but leave it rooted with cwm will they even know that it's rooted?

Eh, not likely. In my travels, I've visited 5 Sprint stores for random service. Only one tech even knew what the latest version on our phone was.
I just talked to someone about it, and they claim that so long as superuser and all other root apps are gone, they likely wont even notice.
Look for the FC09 stock deodexed ROM in development. You can put that MTD ROM on and flash the stock boot ani and delete superuser. Should also be a link to reflash stock recovery.

was just about to say this. remove tb, superuser and any other apps that require root. then install an app like smartlocker and lock all file explorers and pictures and stuff.

Good call on locking the file explorers. The other thing you could do is just install another launcher and hide the apps in question (SU, TB, etc) instead of actually uninstalling them if you wanted to go that route.

this is the factory update zip. I copied a long time ago... This is a long shot but here it is, hope it work. ( I've never tried it )

seems very small to revert me back to stock.

Oh also you might need to change the the file name to update in order to flash it in the stock recovery.
I did this when I first went to FROYO ( forgot who's post I got it from) If you have the factory ROM just rename name it... update.zip and try that, it worth a shot

i gave him that link earlier
he doesnt have clockwork installed
Easy fix man, break a battery pin off so the phone doesn't power on, and take it back saying it just died. They won't be able to boot it to check the rom at that time and should in store replace it with a refurb. I have done this once, when they didn't want to replace mine for screen wobble.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
You could also intentionally flash a file that shouldn't have be flashed, to stick the phone at the boot logo.
Without being able to boot, they cannot reveal what rom is 'running'
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Just get a 12-24VAC power brick, like one used on a sprinkler timer. Drag the 2 bare leads from the output around the contacts on the back of the phone for battery, sdcard, antennas, etc... It'll roast the **** out of everything inside of the phone. They'll never know what ROM was on it after that.
So last night I tried running the one click root with CWM 3, and it ran, but got stuck installing the recovery image, so I disconnected, rebooted, and ran again. Now it won't run cuz Asphalt and Free HD game demos are gone. What can I do? I really don't want to Odin just to get those two apks back

There is not enough room for one click to run and copy so it deletes those 2 apps to make room. When you are rooted move a bunch of stuff to SD card and you can download and install them again.

I've never gotten the one click script to work. I assume it's because I'm dumb or my hardware isn't compatible or something. It always says "phone not connected" even though it is connected and I have the proper drivers installed.
pre-rooted tars in odin are just so much easier.
If you are getting "phone not recognized" error it is 99% of time your cable you are using. The factory cable is junk!

Yeah, that shouldn't of happened unless flashed only a modem instead of a full tar. They should be greater than 150MB. Here is the link for an EB13 prerooted tar set, also in development there are a bunch of new EC05 files.

No. You have to either Odin to EC05 or flash ReRFS ROM and stock recovery. Unless that forces the phone to download and install the stock ROM. Sprint tried that with my phone and it did not work properly.

If you're trying to get him back to stock, your best bet is Odin EC05 and let it update OTA to EI22. A factory reset won't lose root, but that may be your problem...depends on why you want to return to stock. If it's to get it fixed by taking it into a store, they'll either see Superuser, or there are a variety of other ways to see if a phone is rooted or not.

Odin will wipe SU and any indication from the phone itself.
Its the tell-tale signs on your SD card they might see... keep your sd card or remove files like "clockworkmod" and the like.

Yup, recovery is what I was thinking about, but that's just one thing. As tony said, go through your SD card too. There are traces of root (not literally) all over the place there! Not only the 'clockwork' folder, but also the 'Titanium Backup' folder if you have one, and really, about any zip files that aren't 'update.zip'.
If you're super paranoid about it, you could also set up another Google Account to link that with your phone. If you've bought apps with specific root capabilities (Titanium Backup for example), they could see it on your Google Account.
That piece is only if you're super paranoid, but just an idea. This way, after you Odin (which replaces CW recovery with stock recovery), you can login with the 'other' Google account and you'll have virutally zero apps associated with that account. I would probably throw a few games on there, maybe import a few contacts, just to be safe.
I doubt any Sprint employees would go to this length, but if you literally wanted to cover all your bases, this is where you would start.
Does anyone know how to achieve temp root with our phone? I just want the official stock with bootloader and everything but with bloat apps removed. Thanks

Read the Auto Root thread, it will give you pointers to get EL29 rooted.
Basically just flash the pre-rooted EL29 ODIN One-Click in my signature to get root. If you want CWM, use the Auto Root package, Option C, to install EL29+CWM-Rogue.

well for some urge, i just want newest bootloaders, official untouched software loaded onto my phone. I'm finding these ROMs to be not as good as stock. For example dialer codes on deodexed ROMS can't do "*#0*#". I just want temp root to gett rid of bloat, apply the tethering mod, and then remove root. I just dont want my files to be pre modified or touched by someone.
There is no root exploit available in the way you want at the moment. However, I can assure you that if you flash the pre-rooted EL29 ODIN One-Click, then do whatever cleanup you want, then use Auto Root Option B to unroot, you will be at 100% stock Modem, Kernel, and ROM (except for the changes YOU made)
I'm not sure the distinction you are making is really significant, as adding 3 files to the ROM, doing your thing, then removing them isn't going to result in any "changes" in behavior, certainly not the ones you listed above.
The packages I put together are not custom ROMs. They are the minimum needed to get root. Nothing else is changed. The changes made to add root are completely reversible by running Option B in Auto Root.

How come people installing AIO over your EL29 are having issues compared to those who put AIO on Calk's pulled odex stock EL29? Those type of discrepancies get me frustrated. I'm not saying anything is wrong, but idk :/
the issues on the pre-rooted EL29 can be pointed out in the AIO thread
I think i found a way to try out tomorrow.
https://market.android.com/details?id=org.projectvoodoo.otarootkeeper
I can use that to keep root after taking an OTA. so i can use auto root from EG30 stock and use that app to preserve root with the OTA
A review from the app:
"Kept Root After Upgrade to Sprint Epic 4G
Epic 4g is the Sprint version of the Galaxy II. I installed the app before doing an OTA upgrade today. I backed up root. I did the over the air upgrade, no more root access. I opened OTA RootKeeper, pressed the button for restore, and I have root again. AMAZING!"

There are methods to hide the fact the phone is rooted.. all very easy.
Also, I'm rooted running the stock ROM that I "debloated" myself, and when I connect to odin it still says I have an official ROM.. my flash counter remains at zero..
Easiest way is, assuming you're using a cwm.zip base install, go into the zip, in the system/app folder, and delete all the apk's out of the zip you don't want installed. Then install the rom.
Not sure if there are any cwm installs that are our base rom with no root, though. (I've never really looked for them, however, so they might exist somewhere.)
What are these methods for hiding root? Would like to hear about that.

Ideally if I can remove bloat\put on custom Rom and unroot sadly that is ok. I believe this alleviates the security concerns with rooted devices being used in a corporate environment. I am just not sure if anyone has experience with with 3rd party tools that seek out rather an app is rooted.
