[Q] Best Rom for epic 4g touch el29 - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I am looking for a good rom for my epic 4g touch el29. I tried calkulin's eg4t but it soft bricked my phone. I dont need all the doo dads but it would be nice to remove some bloatware and speed up the processor.

I'm looking for a good one too. Haven't flashed a ROM to this phone yet. Having GPS issues with stock ROM.
These two were on the front page.

The [ ROM ] Calkulin's E4GT v3.0 [ EL29 l Fast l Tweaked l Battery Saver Script ] looks good.
I rooted with the Odin method.
What's the Modem for? Need to install ROM and Modem?
What does this mean?
Modem - Zip's must be flashed through a CWM based recovery & Tar's must be flashed through the PHONE option in Odin

EL29? Go Blazer. You will not regret it one bit

Check out Blazer Rom.

Check out AOKP or MIUI. Both are in my list of DDs.

I too am looking for the perfect ROM. I currently have EpicTouch AOSPmod v.3.8.1 This is a really good ROM. However, my one and only complaint is that it does not have the SWYPE keyboard integrated into it
If you are looking for an simple way to root you D710 Epic 4G Touch go here: http://epic4gtouchroot.com/category/epic-4g-touch-root/
This is quite literally the easiest way I have found to root your device after hours and hours of reading. I look forward to the day that I understand all of the technical jargoon being used on these forums. I considered myself at least a Novice prior to beginning my adventure in rooting, but since I am such a NOOB.
If you or anybody else has a suggestion on an perfect ROM, let me know too. All of this flashing, downloading and reading is making falling asleep a job.
Thanks to all the devs and members though for all of their hard work & daring to bring us control over OUR devices!

One more for Blazer 4.1 though Caulks has always been good to.

I am loving the Blazer rom but I really miss my buddies now widget. Is there any decent speed dialer app/widget

Im loving the blazer 4.1 right very fast and good battery life

Best rom is all a matter of opinion. Open a few, look at screenies.. read a few post (See what overall reponses are for them) Flash it.. Try for yourself (YMMV) and then form your own opinion..
I get a sinking feeling this thread will soon be locked... Like all the other "Best rom/Battery Life" Threads...

Need help, not an epic 4g person

i am a droid incredible person, already rooted and currently running cm7.
brother wants me to root his epic 4g.
he is looking for a stable rom and a battery saving kernel with all the same performance.
what are some that i can use?
thanks for your help.
inb4 "wrong section"
I'm rather amazed that you are clearly not a total noob since you have at least managed to flash CM but still posted a question in development...
Anyway, you would be best to wait a couple days for Roms and kernels based on the latest release (EC05), but if you have to flash something now I'd suggest Syndicate ROM

You guys that don't offer help are just as bad as this guy posting in the wrong section...
I'm running midnight rom, and its been giving me great performance and stability, much more so than syndicate. Over clocked to 1200, and have 66% battery life left with minimal use, 14 hours running.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
Syndicate is awesome it was my daily but when I switched to ec05 I had issues and tried VIPERom synergy which is an eb13 rom. It runs flawless with the ec05 modem. I'm not sure if the issue with syndicate rom was the rom since it is eb13 and not ec05 or something I did wrong in the process but VIPERrom(also eb13 but again, runs great on ec05) has been awesome so far. Not a huge fan of the orange but daily performance is amazing.
Next time might try the general thread.

I'm running bonsai 3.01. Battery life is great no major issues at all. Here is a couple of screens of battery life
The battery was at 5% when these were takin. Only warning about bonsai would be not to let your battery die because of the no journaling mod. Their kernel also is clocked to 1.2 so performance is great as well.

Thumbs up on that one. I have the same problem except that I have a HeroC and the g/f has the Epic. Compared to the manhours I've spent in the Hero, this looks like chinese to me lol. I don't quite follow everyone with the Rom jargon (Eb13, Ec05) and what the hell is journaling and does she really need it? CM7?? I certainly know what that is lol. My Evo comes in tuesday and that'll take me about 5 minutes to get going...the Epic I'm not so sure on.
Most people new to the forums don't take the time to understand posting rules. The dev section always takes the biggest hit.
bonsai viper and acs roms are very good.

Great! Thanks!
I'm trying to amass a small collection of Sense kernels so I can try them out on my recently rooted AMOLED DInc. So far I've tried HeyItsLou #9, Incredikernel, and Ziggy471. Next up will be KiNgxKernels #5 and 6, followed by Order 3. I'm still trying to track down a Hydrakernel but am having no luck.
I'm posting my impressions on a thread I started over in the Droid Incredible General area. People keep trying to convince me to try ROMs too, but I've not liked CM7 or SkyRaider 4. I like this stock Sense ROM I've gutted the bloat out of. Now I'm just trying to tweak battery life through custom kernels.
I'm also sort of trying to figure out which radios do what and how they impact battery life -- no easy task, let me tell you. I guess I just need to try harder.
Thanks again!
p.s. FWIW I'm sticking with Incredikernel 2.6.32.27 for now

I have 2 of them I uploaded to Dropbox

Yea, I'm not a big fan of the CM7. I liked the stock ROM and like you did, removed everything out I did not know or used. I tried a lot of ROM and now I am liking the WarmZ 2.2 nightly 04/23. I have pretty much stripped that ROM down to nothing after I installed it by removing apps and widgets. When flashing the nightlies it became tedious going through adb and removing each file, so I created a bash script that when ran, deleted all the unnecessary apps and skins. So far this ROM is awesome and looks good.
As far as kernels, Lou's #8 that came inside the ROM is good on battery for me. I can go 16 hours and some with lots of texting and facebooking. I have tried ziggy's and chad's incredikernal, both had good battery life, but each had their downfalls, whether it be laggy when scrolling or just random restarts. Lou's #8 seems smooth all around with this ROM
Radios, well I am hooked on the 2.15.00.11.19 It seems to hold out and gives me less call drops and faster download speeds. I tried the new GB leaked radio 2.15.10.05.06 and had about the same download speeds, but experienced more call drops.
I think at this point once you find a ROM you like, its more of experimenting with different kernels and radios until you find the best combination that suits you. That's what I did
And thank you to you two as well.
I'm new to this but trying hard to figure out what's going on. I have a pretty good grasp of what goes on with kernels and ROMS, now I just want to see what's up with radios.
I'm enjoying swapping out kernels because I can change the performance of my Incredible without having to reconfigure everything. I never did try HeyItsLou #8, so I guess it's worth a shot even though #9 wasn't very good for me.
Later
Thanks again for the hydra kernels. I'm trying one out now, the one that's named ocuv_v10. How is the other one (ocuv_ov_v10) different? Does it use HAVS or something?
Thanks

I really like the goodness ICS rom but am plagued with the SOD so I am currently on EL29. I was wondering if anybody has had the issue go away with the latest releases? The last ICS version I was on was version 9 and had the SOD issue 5 or 6 times a day. I am hoping that the newer releases don't have that issue.

Has the devs given up on the Eptouch?

The rom selection is not very good and the roms themselves are full of issues save for the gb ones.
Wtf are u talking about? We have a few JB roms out. we have as much dev support as any phone on XDA!!!!

U are confusing. Not sure what planet u are on or what universe. Samsung/sprint put out a ****ty update and u want the devs to fix it? U know most devs don't do this for a living right ? Also we have a huge assortment of roms. We have atleast 7 roms active being updated daily . Plus cm9 and now JB which one is cm10 and posted and one is not cuz of people like u whining that a alpha ROM has bugs

No real development recently though, except people theming roms and calling themselves developers
We should have a few stable builds of jelly bean soon? If you want loads of choices in roms maybe switch to a GSM phone

Why is that the best response to this lol.......I am just trying to point it out lol
So far the worthwhile roms are touched by gs3, aokp and cm9.....cm10 now lol but that is laggy maybe its my phone who knows
The other two are well on the way to being amazing just need stability responsiveness and MHL ability
Also why isnt the CM9 for our phone official? ATT version is.....
You're blind........ The clear and only choice, Blu Kuban. It blows everything else out of the water. Like somebody else said, get a new phone or you can develop your own rom to your specifications.

Sprint GS3 WS Rom..Kernel?

Hi all, new to rooting. I rooted my Sprint GS3 running the Wicked Sensations Rom and love it so far, thanks to the team. However my battery life seems to have gone down hill big time. It was mentioned that maybe my kernel needed to be adjusted ( I have no clue when it comes to this, I'm still learning). My question is,how do I "adjust/tweak" my kernel,or is there a better one out there for me? Can someone please explain..Thanks..Phil

Do you happen to know what kernel you are running? If not go to system settings/general/about device and take a screen shot and post. I personally don't mess with kernel settings but this will give someone better knowledge to help you. Also from my understanding the 4.3 update is a battery sucking monster even @dazednconfused bought an extended battery because of the battery drain.

If you haven't made a kernel change then your running dkp kernel. You would maybe ask for suggestions in my thread on best setup or visit decimalman thread in the original development thread to see what others are doing. You could also experiment with other kernels until you find the right setup for your phone. All phones play different with kernels in my opinion so you just need to play around until you are satisfied.
Yeah its the dkp kernel. I've read a couple threads on kernels but none actually say they're great for..... ya know. I know nothing about kernels which is why I was hoping that one of you heavy hitters could say oh kernel??? Is perfect for this rom. Anyway..I'm gonna do a clean flash of WS Rom tomorrow (talked about in my other thread ) and maybe try a battery calibrator and see how it goes..but thanks to you guys..Phil

I wish I could tell you more about setting one up, but I'm probably the worst to ask. I'm so busy playing around with updates and stuff I never even mess with trying to set up. Lots of good people in the wicked thread willing to give suggestions.
