[request] galaxy ii rom + touchwiz for htc one v - HTC One V

As the title says, I would like to have the new Touchwiz on my HTC One V. There are several things I hate about the HTC Sense - the inability to rearange the icons from the menu, the inability to add or remove the homescreens and the lack of the swap option. Is it possible to have the Galaxy S2 ROM on HTC One V?

I can tell you a few things.
1. Wrong section. Should be in Q&A.
2. That will be pretty hard since this is a new phone and development needs a lot of time to grow since it isn't a flagship phone.
3. Screen resolutions are not the same so a lot of editing is required.
4. The One V has 512MB RAM while the GS2 has 1GB.
5. This is a 1GHz phone compared to 1.5GHz.
Long story short, this is a dream. May never come to reality unless devs REALLY wanna do it.

Sorry, I was in doubts if I should open it here or in the Q&A forum. A moderator should move it. Anyway thanks for explaining me that it's almost impossible

This belongs in Q&A.

[Q] Desire coming to the end of it's life????

i don't know if it's just me or is the Desire coming to an end. yeah i know it's been around for 18 and a bit months but many developers are leaving or have left.
I'm wondering if i should be moving along also. i have cooked many a rom for the awesome ones available from coolexe, leedroid, miui, insertcoin and cyanogen but development is slowing and there is only so much you can do to this phone.
i have wasted so much of my time with the phone much to my girlfriends annoyance
but the new sense 3.5 roms and even the 3.0 roms are just too slow for my liking.
Never less the desire forums on xda and all the other android forums must have set world records for the amount of development and threads that there are. and people involved.
i guess people will keep making and porting roms to the Desire like what has happened with the Hero, and what linux can do to an old windows computer, and this phone deserves it. but as i type this i feel a small lump in my throat and a tear in my eye that my Desire will be added to my draw of other phones.
R.I.P Desire!!!
I agree the newer sense roms are slow and I think development here will slow to a trickle.
However, like the Hero, I envisage long term AOSP development until the device just cant take it any more.
Yeah the aosp will keep it going for a while as i can't imagine phones changing too much over the next few years. Especially HTC as they seem to be set in their ways.
HTC Desire
Ha. Horncastle. My Parents are in Wragby
Lol, sounds like you did the right thing and moved away. The internet is shocking here so takes a while to download the roms. Especially if you're in a flashing mood.
HTC Desire
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
Fair enough. But it wasn't really a question. Maybe a little rhetorical.
HTC Desire
Hopefully Desire still lives for long time.
If it was the fastest smart phone in the market it wouldn't be a challenging task to make it run smooth
It can easily be kept smooth. But not to the future standard. There is always the need for the most up to date software. What happened to the 3310 lol

Development does seem to slow down. Though nowadays people seem to misunderstand the difference between developing and cooking. Every Tom, **** and Harry seems to take a good ROM, change an hboot here, remove a couple of apps there, and zip it up with the kitchen and release it. Anyone can. No knowledge is needed either. But that ain't development. It's cooking. It just needs knowledge as to use a simple kitchen script.
And has any new development happened after the Data2sd development by Sibere, ownhere et Al? No sir. It's boring. I too am thinking of getting a new handset and moving on.
By the way, we do deserve a developer chat thread within development thread. I hope to take it up with MikeChannon. Development is not all about ROM releases. It's also about collaborating and asking, which means questions too, under the Dev thread..

Agreed, I wish we could strip out the clones a bit. Thing is some have gone through dsixda kitchen and selected each option. Then they're xda "recognised developer"s. Kind of brings the meaning of the label down IMHO

HTC Desire
I've had my Desire since April time last year and have only recently discovered the whole XDA rom scene. Seems a shame that I seem to have found out about all this towards the end of the Desire's life.
There are some great rom's (and dev's) on here that have given my phone a new lease of life but it's a bit sad to know that some of the dev's are moving on to the newer handsets. Guess next time I'll know where come a little earlier in the phones lifecycle
Anyway...
Seeing as I'm getting due to move phones some time soon, what would be your suggestions of where to go next where the dev's are giving good support? What would be your suggestions on the next step on from the Desire?
Sorry to hear you've left it this late. But there are plenty of roms that you can try before you decide to move on. Without sounding like a an ass kiss. ...supernova is best for stock desire, you have miui, or many of the aosp like CM7 or gingervillain.
I think some have gone to sgs2 or sensation. Haven't heard much about the new line of xperias or read about them. Not sure about the any motorolas apparently they're shipping with unlocked bootloaders.
If you're new to the forums, have you s off your phone. You don't need to with supernova but the CM7 or oxygen hboots are popular with other roms.
HTC Desire
Yup. Both sensation and sgs2 threads have attracted the good devs from all the device threads.

Petition to HTC (Official Android 4.0)

Good afternoon XDA and especially HTC Desire users!
We know that we don't have much chance to get full-working Android 4.0 but the hope dies at last)
So we made a petition, maybe it is a crazy idea, but i hope that HTC Developers will continue our support!
It is a try to get official Android 4.0 WITHOUT HTC SENSE
So there is no harm in trying! Maybe it will work!
Here is the petition:http://rmd-team.ru/?page_id=393
PS Sorry for my English. If you can change something there, because it is wrong, contact me!
Why "crazy idea"?!

I HOPE THIS HELP!

and me too....
me too guys
I think this is a noble cause, but there are some big problems with it.
1) HTC had tremendous trouble updating the Desire to Gingerbread, due to the small internal memory size. Squeezing ICS with Sense on top into that same limited amount of memory just isn't going to fly.
2) Even if they could, they're not going to make the effort anyway. The Desire may have been HTC's flagship at one point, right now it's just a 2 year old phone that has seen its fair share of updates. Right now, they'll focus on their current flagships - and could you blame them? If we want their official ICS + Sense experience, we'd just have to buy one of their newer phones. Unless they bring that to our old Desires, which is why they're not going to - their main goal is to make money after all.
3) This doesn't belong in development, post it in the General forum.
If so could HTC will stop manufacturing the focus of software development takes. I love HTC!

1) I wrote about HTC Sense in this petition. If it is possible to remove it from this rom everything will be perfect
2) if moderators move this theme to general topic, i will agree with them, but it's closely connected with development.
Never hurts to try, but I think this one is in vain.
They would either have to change hboot partition layout or do something else crazy. There just isn't enough space left on a stock hboot at the moment after installing ICS, let alone Sense on top of it.
The reason we can use ICS is because of A2SD setups where we gain additional space. HTC can't expect this from everyone in a rom for consumers.
i suppose you could petition to get source or drivers released so the amazing devs can cook stuff up for us, that would make more Sense, get it sense lolllllllll

Why would they remove their trigger?
This makes no sense. I'm Desire user but I'm with HTC 100% on this.

As others have said, this will never happen:
1) HTC will not remove Sense from any update - even HTC's new phones with Android 4.0 coming out will still have Sense. As far as HTC is concerned, Sense is what sets them apart from other makers.
2) With Sense, the only way to fit ICS on the Desire would be to change the partition layout. However, no manufacturer will release an update that requires changing the partition layout, for multiple reasons (necessity of unlocking bootloader, warranty invalidation, likelihood of bricking phone, etc)
On the other hand, both Sandvold's and dk_zero_cool's ROMs are pretty much usable as daily drivers. I think we can be pretty happy with how well supported our Desire is by the dev community, and forget about support from HTC (Case in point - Gingerbread: Did anyone actually use the Gingerbread update from HTC? IMO the custom ROMs from this site were all a million times better)
very good idea, it is on that ICS will be well on my desire
Good idea, guys))

My knowledge on this is limited, but Im fairly sure the partition layout could be changed in an update if they wanted it to be. Correct me if Im wrong, but the partition layout is defined in the HBOOT, and HTC have updated the HBOOT via updates in the past.
That said, I am fairly confident they wouldn't do it for other reasons (it'll wipe the users /data partition, and the Desire is now an old phone that they don't see any reason to update).
Would love HTC to prove me wrong though and release an ICS update (or at the very least, updated drivers & kernel/etc that would make things a lot easier for the devs here)
signed as well

[Q] HTC One X vs SGS3

Hi,
I do know that's more or less an old topic but well...I have a big dilemma so maybe you should help me out.
I'm owning a SGS3 int. and well I'm more or less fine with it; I choosed it over HOX mainly because of chance to change battery and winner cpu/ram benchmark (with 15/20% more in every damn test) and a bigger screen (not much but better then nothing).
The dilemma started 1 week ago when a friend of mine bought the HOX and well...the screen seems really so much better in HOX.
At the same time, despite few games lag on HOX, the Tegra has some optimized game for it giving some cool effect.
I mainly use the phone to watch movie and play videogames so, in some way, HOX win for me (at least just watching it) so I was thinking to chance my SGS3 for an HOX but I wanted to ear your opinion, hoping that will not start flame or fan boy reply.
I am really interested in opnions of who maybe tried both or who maybe changed his SGS3 for the HOX (like I'll probably do asap).
Thanks,
Max

There have already been similar threads like this one you should really go searching for them. Cause frankly everyone on this forum is sick of it.
tons of info in the One X mega information thread
and shadehh is right please enough with these comparison threads, they are against XDA rules
few moments now and this thread will be flooded by fools
to mods: we need a sticky please saying comparison threads are not allowed
You have a SGS3 so you already know its strengths and weaknesses. Your friend has a One X so you can figure out what its strengths and weaknesses are specific to the way you'll use it. Like others just said, there are tons of threads discussing the two phones. That should be more than enough for you to make an informed decision. Personally, I don't get "what should I buy?" threads. Everyone uses their phones differently and has different needs and criteria. Do some research and buy what you think is best. That seems more logical than making a decision based on the advice of total strangers.
well i had an amoled screen before and i got to tell u that i prefer the LCD. i am more with ur opinion but that wouldnt make me change the s3 is the battery .it is something that some times u want to have more than anything else.thats the only minus in hox the battery everything else i think are the same with s3

Actually we need some good discussion thread with protagonists antagonists for each phone where every one can say what it is they like about their phone (or disliked on the other).
Anyway I bought the HOX before the SGS3 came out but before the SGS3 came out I already knew Samsung would blow HTC away with its hardware specs but I own a SGS2 and a Desire so I know a bit about the difference in user experience and the whole time I used the SGS2 I was disappointed because i missed all those little Sense touches. Sense just is the best mobile user experience period, nothing comes close in software polishedness (not "even" ios), everything just works and everything is integrated into each other; eg. open the gallery app and see the galleries from your friends there, or browse contacts and go directly to their galleries, the htc keyboard is pretty damn good; I bought swiftkey x when using the sgs2 but I am using just the default keyboard; duplicate contacts are automatically merged in sense; and there is so, so much more; really there is only one touchwiz feature I miss in Sense and that's the smart alarm function....
If your thing is showing of quadrant scores though don't get the hox

But hasn't this been done? To death? It's all just opinion and there's rarely agreement amongst owners better yet any type of common ground that would hold up in a comparison. Name one feature of the SGS3 or One X that doesn't already have commentary running on it. I don't know whether I'm a protagonist or antagonist (maybe I'm both?) but I'm tired of the circular debates that lead nowhere, don’t change anyone's opinion, and consistently end with the thread being locked. Yesterday's One X vs. SGS3 comparison thread covered race and sexual orientation. Do you really want to go there again?
There’s already a 160 page SGS3 vs. One X comparison thread in the i9300 forum. Why doesn’t everyone use that as the “official” comparison thread? I guarantee you anything anyone wants to discuss has been covered at least a dozen times there.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1652250
because for each and everyone it's a different discussion, everyone has their own things they think are important and their own things they think are less important

Regarding Htc One X?

Hey Guys! I just ordered my new Htc One X and am going to receive it in a day or so! So I would Like to ask you soem questions:
1) Guys is there A simple Rooting/modding Thread for The Htc One X?
2) I have heard that Htc phones are hard to root Is that so?
3) Should i stick with Sense or Root my phone As i did with my previous device (GIO)
4) The Sim Pin Thingy! Is there something else that can open the tray
5) Any Solution To the Frame Rate Problem ?
6) Which one is sexier White or Black? ( Just need two or three opinions)
7) Is there a free Marketplace or any good site to Download Tegra 3 games I'm 14 so yea I dont like to pay for my Games .
So thanx for all your Replies If i posted in the wrong Forum Plz Admin Shift it As this is unfamiliar Territory
You need to be better at using the search feature as some of the questions are already well answered here.
1. There's a sticky for this. You cannot miss that.
2. Probably not, but it may get harder unless HTC relax their stand. A Galaxy Nexus is a better choice if you want to tinker.
3. Your call really and comes down to personal preference. The new 2.15 rom should bring a performance boost to the sense UI so should be quite good.
4. A straightened stapler pin should do or so should any thin object of that type.
5. Not sure about this, but i have read that there was a bespoke fix to increase both frame rate and data.
6. White - Unless you work in a coal mine...
7. No idea but this is not encouraged here...Best to read forum rules, Rule 6 in your case in particular.
Lastly read read and read the posts as there are a lot of people contributing and discussing both experiences and solutions...

Yea I went through ton of posts but thanks for the sticky It will really help Me But i think I am better Of with Stock sense and About 5) My friend's one x Has Crappy FPS But wat can u do Oh yea Sorry for Posting that . i read the Rules After Posting And another Question Does Your One X Lag Of any sorts and what amount of ram is free Cheers
No problem.
The stock International One X does have a bit of lag here and there and is quite unusual for such a device. Mind you like I said, this is probably due to the enhancements missed in the stock version and the latest leaked 2.15 rom does put an end to that misery. As with RAM, I have about 200MB free.
I have a few widgets that need updating and therefore sometimes the screen transitions stutter but I am quite content with the fact that a fix is on the way from HTC. Besides I felt that the Android 4.0.4 release in general made that experience better, so the new HTC OTA should work on the same lines.

Damn Your Htc Takes Up lots of Ram ! My Friend's Take's Up around 680 and He is left with 320 mb Ram . I think it is because Of Sense But still 800 mb Used! That is too much ! But ill Be waiting for The Sense Upgrade to 4.1 to fix all of this

Seriously thinking of going to a One X+ from an S3...should I

The main reason for maybe doing this, is I'm sick to the teeth of lag on the S3 when opening from the start or especially when coming from the net then opening either texes, contacts or calls which is a 2-4 second lag, for such an expensive phone it's a pita.....and I've did eveything I've read about ie turning off S Voice, and animations ect, nothing cures it.
How good or bad is the One X+ compared the S3 ?
What do you expect to hear when you ask that on a HTC forum?
Also, comparison threads are forbidden around here.

Yeah, but there are frames drops for few seconds when widgets are reloading and you're starting to scroll. Nothing major, though. I guess it's governor (stock kernel) fault ; d

... for different reasons.
1. We do not accept comparison threads because they nearly always end in flaming among fanboys and will always be biased by the fact that they are posted in the forum of one competitor, except...
2. ... they are posted in the entirely wrong section (One X instead of One X+) and therefore off-topic
