I have the same problem with CM9 on a red lensed Defy --30% to 19%--...I tried flashing other kernels (Obviously I've already calibrated the battery) and nothing works..
I have had this on CM9, MS2Ginger (all versions), some people have reported the same behaviour on MIUI. What do they all have in common? Yup - the kernels! Since Defy has locked bootloader, we can only use Motorola's stock Froyo and GB kernels. And now, when I think about it, I start to think the issue might be comming from there and that Moto did know about this bug, that's why stock ROM's don't show battery in 1% steps but in 10 - 'cause then it is hard to notice the huge drop.
Have the same problem to. It seems to be getting worse as well. Drops from about 62 to 49 as well. Also on CM7.2 RC2.
My MB525 also happens this way after about a year's usage. ?battery hardware?
I've tried :
1) wipe battery stats from applications
2) wipe battery stats from 2nd init recovery
3) wipe / format cache partition
4) wipe Dalvik cache
5) restore previous backup (while battery's running OK)
6) calibration of battery using > 3 different apps
7) wipe / format partition using "power" + "vol down" key then goes into the menu
NONE of them work EXCEPT
WIPE AND FORMAT ALL USER AND SYSTEM DATA !
I wonder is there a system bug that could lead to this phenomenon or just hardware malfunction - I recently bought another non-motorola battery BUT it works flawlessly from 100% to 15% till it reminds you to connect to charger.
It happens when I used :
1) stock Froyo 2.2.2 from official motorola site
2) rooted stock Froyo 2.2.2
3) CM7.2 RC2
Now I am using CM7.2 RC2
I confirm that this is happening not only on CM7.2. I have the same problem on stock froyo even after a complete wipe and a full sbf flash.
Moreover I used to have a 34-19% drop but since last week I have also another drop around 62%. It means now that I'm loosing one day of usage!
I really think that the battery is dying. I ordered another one, I will see if it's solving the problem.
I have two batteries, and one of them always drop from 15 to 4. I think is a battery issue.

try to do a battery calibration when the battery have only 10% left
after that do a "wipe battery stats" from recovery
then reboot and charge it to full
I fix my "drop" in this mode
this could be a rezult of many flashing and instaling diferent roms
hope this work for you too
cool. i jst created a thread yesterday to show same type of bug in MIUI stable GB...
by battery drain suddenly after 46 % the power goes easily.... dnt knw why this happens ....
I use the stock rom, both tried 2.2 (Defy) and 2.3.6 (Defy+)
both have the same problem with moto original battery
Try new Motorola Defy cyanogenmod 7.2 RC3 http://get.cm/get/2wY
The problem still remains with cm7.2 RC3
I have same problem with MIUI, WIUI and White Rabbit on my Defy.

if you have Defy red/green replace the battd file from system/ bin
with this one
View attachment 1117754
rename it battd(delete.zip)
use rootexplorer.apk to replace it
copy/paste
fix permision and reboot
can do a battery calibration and wipe battery stats again

Hi,
I've the following problem with my Gio. First, it didn't want to start. When I plugged it the charger, a symbol of the battery appeared on the screen with a yellow triangle, indicating that the temperature is too cold. And it wasn't cold. But I could start up the phone...until I removed the charger. My phone fell out directly.
I had a rooted version of the original firmware, so I tried to connect my phone to Kies. Didn't work. So I flashed a clean rom, 2.3.5 with Odin. My phone is working again, but I still have to connect it to the charger before I can start my phone. If I don't to it, a empty battery appears on the screen. But when the phone is started, I can remove it from the charger and it will still work. But now and than the phone falls out after a while.
At the moment, my phone isn't connected to the charger, but it still thinks that the charger is connected... Picture is attached.
Does anybody here had this problem too? Or do you people know a solution? The problem is, within 2 weeks I go to Sweden for 4 months, so I can't bring in my phone for repair...
Thanks in advance!
Anyone? Or any suggestions? I even can't read the battery gauge, also not in the settings menu. The graph is like a rollercoaster
Maybe you can go to recovery mode and do a wipe, maybe theres a problem with some files.. did you had root and modified something??
I think if you flash another stock rom, fresh, with a factory reset and sd card format, it may fix the problem.. but I havent seen this in xda before, so going to repair centre is good to, but you must be on stock rom and no root or unrooted

maybe you should try to do factory reset before flashing it again
Go to recovery and wipe battery stats and flash a rom with the usual dalvik and data wipes and see if that changes anything.Otherwise idk I never seen or heard anything like this

I had this problem too about a month ago. You don't need to take it to repair center, install cwm (look in the gio big thread for help and dl), go to advanced menu, and wipe battery stats. If that doesnt help, do a wipe data/factory reset.
Btw, i had this too when it was about -15 celsius and i was outside. The Gio doesnt like cold :S

I installed CyangenMod 7.1, an did a wipe data. I also wiped the battery stats. No results. So I think that it is a hardware problem, with the battery... So I will bring my phone to a service center, no other option I think. And flash a stock firmware

Sorry for the dig guys but I'm facing a problem. I was running Gio Pro 1.4 on my phone with A2SD and I noticed the battery was draining fast and I saw the key lights were on even with the key lock so I shut the phone down. When I tried to start it again the phone didn't do anything. I took the battery off, tried downloading, recovery, ram dump mode and only the last one worked but after some time it stopped working also. I tried a friend's battery and nothing. I got home and connected the phone to the charger and everything was normal. I could start the phone, enter recovery, etc. Without the charger the phone was the same, didn't start. I tried a hard reset and nothing so I tried to flash to clockworkmod recovery and to cyanogen rom. The installation went good but I still had that problem. Then I tried to wipe the battery stats, dalvik cache, etc and still the same. I then tried to flash the clockworkmod recovery with odin and the same. I then flashed with an original firmware with every file (incluiding modem) and the phone was working good and I could start without the charger. Now I installed the cyanogen and cwm recovery again and the problem reappeared. Help please?
EDIT: Guys, reflashed with cyanogen and it is now working...Weird..
Just a little bump since the problem came back...
Already flashed to and ICS Rom, back to official rom and the problem's still there, even with the official rom. Any help guys? My battery's in good condition, already wiped everything...I can't find the solution...
EDIT: Sometimes it boots, sometimes it doens't...

Back to the original problem of the yellow triangle and not charging. I googled over and over to find a solution, I came across some askme website that had over 30 people say that DROPPING the Samsung Gio from 2 feet will fix it. I decided NOT to do that but slam the phone slightly hard on a desk. It totally fixes this icon (remove the sim and micro sd before slamming it semi hard).
People were dropping it from 2 feet, but I found slamming it (not hard!) fixes it right away. Now the yellow charging icon is gone and my Samsung Gio GT-S5660!

Hi guys,
Di you think I need to recalibrate my battery each times I reflash a rom?
- in the case I do wipe data / factory reset (fresh install)
- in the case I do only dalvik and cache wipe (like rom update)
yes u will need to calibrate ur battery everytime u flash a ROM..
change it till 100%..keep it on charge for another 1 hr..then calibrate it using the app..then you are done..
that is a shame! It take me 10 minutes to update Arconium ICS 2.2 to 2.3 on my Arc S and then it take 1 day to calibrate my battery!
Maybye I should ask the dev if there is a way to backup battery stats between rom update
Short answer is no.
the battery stats is deleted with the rom flash. the battery call is a hardware/kernel harcoded thing... sorta...
you do not need to delete the batterystats file android sorts all of that out on it's own.
i would look up the references from Diane Hackthorn (google engineer) but i am too tired
best way to sort out you battery is to use your phone. charge it when you want to.
lithium batteries prefer to stay charged than to be discharged fully.
*EDIT* also the batterystats file has nothing to do with battery life! all it does is tell you what has been using the battery for the battery screen in settings. ( android deletes it when you have a full battery neway)

whenever i install a rom and while discharging the battery suddenly slides 10-15%(not everytime)..but after calibrating this problem is solved..so i always calibrate after installing a rom..well i m not losing anything

Hi every one I've got a problem.
Am guessing I've bricked my phone but as the handset won't boot I don't see how I can restore using an RUU stock ROM (Not that I really want to do that.)
Okay so have a unlocked Wildfire with a nice 8GB SD card only with Clockwork mod 3.0.6 though - dam phone refuses to upgrade.
Well have been sampling different SENSE ROMS, Wildpuzzle fine! KoolSense fine!
(Well thats to say fine as in the ROMS installed and loaded correctly.)
Come to try REMPuzzle it says to partion the SD so I do this.
I install the zip.
I reboot.
Now the dame phone switches on, displays bright white with the green htc in the centre, and then just sits there.
No 'quietly perfect', no little jingle, no nothing.
I beseech the xda community, please help a noob. I need my phone back for Monday.
Doesnt sound like youve bricked it to me so thats the good news.
Are you using custom mtd sizes? Are you sure you partitioned?
Did you do system, data, caches wipes?
Are you giving it time to boot?
By the way if you can get into recovery then you are not bricked.

easiest way to fix is :
format your sd card from pc....use fat32
them copy cm7 or cm6 on to your sd card...get the latest radio image....
boot in recovery.....clear cache,dal cache,user data,battery stats....
install cyanogenmod or kwbr....reboot from recovery....your phone will be fixed...it should boot now properly....if your gps doesn't work...flash the latest radio image from recovery...
a small advice as you are a new user try not to use ex partions...it tends to screw up the boot if not done properly.....
try lite roms like cm7 for gb or cm6 for froyo
and for sense try kwbr rom....its the best sense rom with froyo...
good luck

oops yeah forgot....
ok did some ....research...came up with dis:
"
"The battery indicator in the status/notification bar is a reflection of the batterystats.bin file in the data/system/ directory."
No, it does not.
This file is used to maintain, across reboots, low-level data about the kinds of operations the device and your apps are doing between battery changes. That is, it is solely used to compute the blame for battery usage shown in the "Battery Use" UI in settings.
That is, it has deeply significant things like "app X held a wake lock for 2 minutes" and "the screen was on at 60% brightness for 10 minutes."
It has no impact on the current battery level shown to you.
It has no impact on your battery life.
Deleting it is not going to do anything to make your more device more fantastic and wonderful... well, unless you have some deep hatred for seeing anything shown in the battery usage UI. And anyway, it is reset every time you unplug from power with a relatively full charge (thus why the battery usage UI data resets at that point), so this would be a much easier way to make it go away."

My phone seems to freeze randomly when I'm using it and when I try to reboot it, it says the battery is completely drained even when it clearly isn't. I then have to boot it up plugged it in to a charger then it'll either charge quickly starting from 0% or it'll jump right back to the percentage it was at when it froze.
This started happening when I flashed from cm9 alpha 6 the cm10 ROM. I thought that the freezing was just caused from the ROM, so I put cm9 back on it, and it continued to do this. I flashed the beta 1 version hoping that would fix it, but the freezing still occurs. Has anyone else experienced something similar to this? Could it be caused by the kernel or modem that I have installed on my phone?

Yes, clean install. Didn't use agats format all though. Wiped both cache. Then flashed the ROM then gapps. Yes, I'm using the op gapps. The ICS ones didn't cause any issues before my phone started freezing up on me.
I'm not running any tweaks or mods. I just load up the ROM for the first time after a fresh install, and it freezes right away.
Just a cache wipe would certainly leave lots behind.

Hi htb,
I replied to your post in the CM10 thread with the following:
I had the exact same issue and it happened about the time I tried a new ROM. For me it was a bad battery. It was physically swollen and obviously bad. My nearest Sprint store have me a new one free.
If you're able, ODIN back to stock and take it in.
If not, a new battery is about $12 on Amazon.
Take out your battery and set in on a flat table. If it's bulged out at all, it's probably bad. It shouldn't spin like a top.
What you're describing is the exact same problem I had. I've tried two other batteries now and the problem seem fixed. No issues with ICS whatsoever. Good Luck!

i don't think that is a software problem, because i set the stock rom and did not solved. (tried also obviusly factory reset) i tried also to put some paper between the bottom of the battery for don't moving it (i thouth that there might be a contact). no result.

already done but no result, thanks anyway
Let's see. Try getting your phone into CWM recovery. Given that you already have custom ROM of your choice stored in external storage.
Backup everything first. This is important. If better backup into external storage.
Then go to storage and mountings, wipe everything except external storage.
Then wipe cache, wipe dalvik and finally factory reset.
Do these accordingly, then flash custom ROM of your choice and with its Gapps(if required).
Then fix permissions.
Basically, just go Pristine. (a more detailed thread in the General Section)
If problem still persists. Go to SSC. Its hardware related.
i've tried all with no result, i will go to assistance for buying a new battery thank you all anyway for help
My friend had a similar problem on his S2, check if your battery looks/feels normal(like no bumps on its surface) the every time a battery I had goes like that it ends with exploding. My psp battery exploded, my friend's S2 battery exploded(luckily for him he had no cover on, otherwise it could've affected his phone) so check the battery and it's go buy a new one ASAP
