Is there a way to get Acer Ring with out flashing a entire ROM?
Man, can't believe no one knows or has a suggestion.
Should be but correct build.prop is needed to make it work.If you have the apk push it to system/app and try. Also this is discussed in other threads.

This apk that was posted was not meant to be installed on a stock A100. Files on the A100 will need to be modified.
The apk was posted by another member so I would have it to play with.

Ok someone has this file, or know where to catch them?
I think you mean you want the apk and build prop from the FR rom so the ring will work on stock ICS? If so I can yank them from mine but past that I don't know what else will be needed to run it.
Edit: I would ask civato about this now that I think about it, as he did it with FR he would know if its as simple as some files or if more is needed under the hood. Settings has a setting for it so there may be more to it.
Tapatalked from my Galaxy S II.
The app is posted. It's a bin file if I remember. So it needs to go where it needs to go. So just a build.prop and whatever else is required to make it possibly work.
Apk , build.prop, permissions, framework , all of those things are not enough to make it work.
It is impossible to flash or install acerring on a already installed rom.
If it is build in the rom and you install that rom it will work if you build the rom correctly and not just copy/past build it. You need to sign it correctly .
It runs on androidUI so if it is not installed on the first installation run you can forget it.
I hope this stops you all from wasting your time and trying to install acerring on a stock ics rom you already got running.
If you want Acer Ring just Root, Unlock, Wipe, Flash Reaper Extreme, and you will have it. So far Reaper Extreme looks pretty good. The browser seems a bit slow but that's likely first boot it is.
Acer Ring looks good though and seems to function well. Just do it!

My girlfriend has downloaded an image from internet by long pressing the image and then selecting "save image" on her Wildfire S with stock Android 2.3.3.
The problem is that the phone keeps downloading this image over and over again even when it is already downloaded. It tries to download the image about every sync action for over a week already.
Before i just delete the whole history i thought maybe someone here knows the answer to this problem, so she can avoid it in the future.
Many thanks for your help!
Hi, I have similar problem, but with applications. Sometimes phone starts downloading already installed app. Even if I set all apps to manual update only.
This behavior is really killing my data plan limit!
My friend with the same phone has this problem too.
Anyone have similar problem or solution to fix it?
The same with me. Does anybody know how to fix it?
Same here. Must be something specific to the wildfire S
I've got the same issue. I guess it'll go away once I can flash a CyanogenMod or MIUI ROM
Works for me alright
Sent from my HTC Wildfire S A510e using XDA App
It's worth completely removing the offending application and then reinstalling it. I had the download issue with 'LED Light'. Removed it and reinstalled it and problem resolved.
I now have the same issue with another appl - will try the same solutoin
It seems to happen when you do an update which is interrupted partway
We ported this rom on the Aria and had the same issue. I replaced the DownloadProvider.apk and DownloadProviderUI.apk with the ones in CM7 and it now works fine.

Here are the apps. You need to delete them from your current rom and replace them for these.
How do I delete them without root access? My Wildfire S is not and can not be rooted at the moment

I assumed the Wildfire S was "rootable". That's a very goo question. You can try something but I have absolutely no guaranties it is going to work because I personally never tried it. Either way, it's your call.
**Make sure you back-up your phone to the Google Server because this will wipe all the data in your phone.**
1- Run the RUU for your phone. This will extract the rom to the temp folder of your computer. For me it's under C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\. An easy way to find it is to clear that folder prior to running the RUU. This way, it should be the only thing in there.
2- Enter the folder and look for a zip file called rom.zip
3- Open the zip file using 7-zip or Winzip. DO NO EXTRACT THE FILES ON YOUR COMPUTER TO REPACKAGE AFTER. THIS WILL SCREW UP THE ROM. You really want to make any addition or subtraction from the archiving utility.
4- Extract the system.img file. Now the challenge is to find a way to edit the content of that file. I personally have no idea how to but I'm sure there must be some tools to do that.
5- Once you've managed to open the .img file, under system/app, there should be DownloadProvider.apk and DownloadProviderUI.apk. Delete those and replace them with the ones I sent in my previous post.
6- Close the .img file.
7- From 7-zip, delete the system.img file and replace it with the one you edited.
8- Close 7-zip and follow the rest of the instructions from the RUU.
Again, no idea if any of this will work because I've never been in the situation to make changes on an unrooted phone. Your biggest challenge is step 4. If you cannot get in that .img file, then I guess you'll have to wait to get root access to your phone. My guess is that it shouldn't be too long since HTC agreed to unlock the HBoot.
Good Luck!
And is it possible to change this files in a "running" ROM Image (rooted, without flashing)?

I think so. Like I said, I never tried it so it's all speculation here. How about you try to install the apk on top of the ones you currently have, i.e. without deleting them? You do have the ablility to install from Unknown Sources correct?

Yes i have. But I'm new to Android, so I want to be careful.
I replaced both in system\app folder (without installing) and after that my market doesn't work anymore.
So I had to flash my ROM cause the Backup files didn't work too.
Was a lot of work, making all new (but at least Titanium Backup works ).
Maybe somebody other knows more?

I am a bit confused here. What do you mean by you replaced in system/app without installing? Also, you said you used Titanium Backup. I thought this app only worked on rooted phone
Unfortunately, I cannot be of much help because I really have an Aria with a ported rom from Wildfire S. I personally fixed the download issue by deleting and reinstalling these apps, but in reality, I have no idea if that would work on the actual Wildfire S. Sorry that I cannot be of any help.

I mean I changed the apk files in folder system/app with those from you (using Root Explorer). Before I deleted them I made a backup of the original ones.

Ok, so try this then. Delete the apk and don't replace them. Flash the Rom and boot the phone. Then install the apk from ur original Rom, i.e. not the ones I provided, but the ones u originally deleted.

The point is, I dont want to flash my ROM every week so I hoped there is a solution to change without flashing again.
Otherwise I will wait, my there will be a fix from HTC.
But I wanna say thank you, for your help and your patience with me!

you should try the modded apk then cause not having any of those issues with that apk.
but u have to force install that apk file by coping it to system and changing permissions
that is to hard for some people

if you want to post the file link to the other apk and detailed instructions i will add it to op
is the link in the OP the modded apk?

Should I revert back to the old build.prop before flashing a different rom?
Edit: So I did some reading and figured it out. Sometimes it's better to look for the answer on ur own. Ignorance is not bliss!
I know it isn't possible to copy and paste the apk from AOKP to Stock 4.0.4 rooted due to some sort of signature. My question is, how can I make it happen? Any all input of helping, non-sarcastic manner will be much appreciated.
If your trying to transfer the AOKP version of MMS app to the stock 4.0.4 then you better make sure that they are compatible!!
Certain apps need certain things in the ROM system to run it. And the stock may not have that. You could try it though (its not gonna hurt your phone) it just will probably force close. If you want to know how to get it then this his how!
Step 1: Get apk file!
Step 2: Connect phone to computer
Step 3: Transfer APK to phone
Step 4: Disconnect phone
Step 5: Open ES File Manager (Get if from Play Store if you don't have it)
Step 6: Find your apk (make sure Unknown sources is enabled)
Step 7: Install it!
And thats it. I hope this helps out a lot!!
Cant be done. You can push it to system/app fix permissions but will not send the text. FC after.. Opening it, going to settings works but not sending. It relies on framework i believe.. Neither cm or aokp mms.apk wont work.. You could use the market ones but one has ads and the other mms is broken..

Try without fixing, most likely will work too. I use Root Explorer app to move files and fix permisions. You do need to be rooted.
I've tried moving both files to /system/app and fixing permissions. When trying to launch browser it crashes. I tried both manually fixing permissions in root browser, and trying to fix permissions in recovery. Permissions match that of all the other apps that appear to be in /system/app directory.
I really like the AOSP browser so I'm willing to try other things to get this working. Do you think you could get both files into a flashable zip we could flash from recovery?
I will try to build one myself to see if I can get it working that way.

I'm not a DEV in any way, I just tinker with things. I take no responsibility for what this does or doesn't do to your device. I've tested this on my device, and can confirm it works, however I'm not perfect at these things. Flash at your own risk. As always make a backup first!

Zip is attached. Following along what they said in that other post.
Find and rename the following apk(inside the /system/app folder): BrowserProviderProxy.apk to BrowserProviderProxy.apk11 (or anything else really).
Do that before you install the zip file.
Just reboot to recovery and flash the zip.

Dont know what you guys are doing wrong. I am not a dev. I just moved those 2 files to /system/app/ and I have AOSP Browser and sync works fine (i am rooted on latest firmware by the way)
ps. also moved AOSP Keyboard with Dictionaries and it also works fine
Got sync for bookmarks to work. Forgot to check sync in settings. I think just moving the files probably would have worked if I had renamed the BrowserProviderProxy.apk in /system/app to begin with, but I had already started making the flashable zip. I figure it will be useful to someone at some point.
Thanks for the flashable zip I couldn't get it to work any other way.
My only question is why can I not rearrange my bookmarks? When I'm in the bookmark screen the menu button doesn't give me any options and long pressing on them doesn't give me the option to reorder them.

EDIT: Does S-Health work for you guys? Also I think that if were keeping S-Health we should also keep Samsung Galaxy Apps since it's the only way to update it.
I really like this rom. Two things though. Can anyone tell me what files I need to restore to get the Samsung Browser working and the Smart Select for the S-Pen? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: So I figured out the Smart Select but I still need to restore the samsung browser.
EDIT 2: I figured out the browser as well.
Also, is there anyway to get the Samsung Account integrated? I would like to download the extra camera filters. I realize that this is a debloated ROM, but if anyone has a link to re-install some of Sammy's apps, that would be greatly appreciated.

I restored the files myself. I used good old fashioned google searching to figure out which files needed to be restored. But I'm glad the rom was built without them. I prefer how slim the rom is and what I wanted may not be what others wanted or needed.

I noticed that the dev of this rom also removed the libs along with the apps. You may need to find out if there're some missing lib files to s-health. At least that was the case when I added back the sbrowser.
How to re-enable smart select, the galaxy app store, tethering, and Samsung account.
This is how I got everything working. For smart select you grab Pinboard.apk from another rom (I grabbed everything from jovy23's original stock deodexed rom), place it in system/priv-app and change it's permissions to match the other apks there. I used ES file explorer for this with root explorer on and changing the system option to R/W (Tap on root explorer after turning it on to change this option). For the galaxy app store grab GalaxyApps_3xh.apk place it in the system/priv-app folder and change its permissions like before. Theres also a apk called SamsungAppsWidget_BannerStyle_common.apk which goes in system/app but I'm unsure if it's neccesary. If you are adding it just remember to change its permissions. For mobile Hotspot grab TetheringAutomation.apk and TetheringProvision.apk place them in system/app and change permissions. For the Samsung Account grab Samsungservice2_xxhdpi_RTL.apk place it in system/priv-app and change permissions. You are able to log in to the galaxy app store without this but it is necessary to get full access to your samsung accounts synching capabilities, like with s-health for example. Let me know if you need help with anything.
EDIT: Reboot after you've done everything!
