I have been successfully running and working with CM9, What are the benefits of the stock ROM? I can certainly flash, then re-root and Re-unlock but is it worth it? what are the improvements/extras?

The only thing I believe is better is every game works without any touch screen issues. If you do not experience this problem on the games you own, well there really is no reason.

Hi all,
I have an S-off OG EVO running stock GB 2.3.3. I would like to stay with the stock ROM and be able to run Titanium Backup and be able to create a wifi hot spot.
I had such a configuration on my Optimus S and it worked very well for me.
I have to say that I really love my EVO and I am just missing these features to be perfectly happy.
I flashed a ROM labeled as stock GB rooted, but it was not really the stock ROM I have, for example the ## menus did not work and the screen lock was the regular GB lock, not the sense one. I had to flash back to pure unrooted stock to activate the phone on my line.
Since I have S-off, I can flash any ROM, any suggestion about where to get an actual GB 2.3.3 OTA rooted ROM or if it even exists?
I would go with a different ROM, but reading some of the problems that users have with some functionalities not working, I am concerned, I need a fully functional phone, although I would not mind vanilla GB, if I was sure that everything works perfectly well.
The closest I found is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133379, but people seem to have tons of issues that do not exist in the stock ROM.
Any suggestions?
Download the Superuser flashable zip and flash it through recovery. This will root your current non-rooted rom. Then download Titanium Backup and select the problems button. Install busybox from there and you should be able to do what you need without flashing a new rom.
There's a complete guide somewhere, I'll see if I can find it.

Thank you for your reply.
So being S-off is enough to gain root? I just have to flash it and be rooted?
I will try as soon as I have a few minutes.
It worked perfectly, thank you!

No problem
I'm glad that you were able to follow my really vague guide. Especially considering I've never done it myself, I just regurgitated what I've heard.

Okay, well I tried getting a friend into rooting and Custom Roms, but It seems as though he would rather just have the original stock rom. So basically the way the phone comes out of the box. Unfortunatley he lost the SD card with the back-up soooo? Does anybody know where I can find the Stock Rom so I can flash it? Thank :s
Just give him like Sprint lovers or Fresh and he won't know the difference

just got a replacement phone from sprint. it came with EL29, although I just rooted with the one click method for EL26; so now my build is on EL26.
was reading that Calkulin's rom forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1332837
had everything I wanted; except it was built on EL29... anyone know whether or not this will work for me or should i search for another rom?

For what reason do you want EL26? EL29 is the newest if you have not found out. Just curious as to why EL26...
Great roms are
Blend 2.6.2 has themes
Dark blend 1.2
Caulks newest
Phantomhackers
hell ALL EL29 has what you need
Just choose the features and look you want.
to be real honest, i was confused when i first rooted. that is, i downloaded EL26 vs EL29 when rooting and now am nervous about going back to install the root again in order to get the newer version. however i think i will do that now

You dont need to reroot nothing. If you are currently rooted, your good to go. Just flash the EL29 modem and then flash your rom of choice. Its easy as cake. Just as long as your rooted with recovery.
So I need some advice on which ROM to flash back on my phone. I am new to custom ROMs and managed to hard brick my phone. I am going to try a Jig to see if I can get into download mode, however, if I do that I am not sure what ROM to flash back onto my phone. It's a galaxy S3 i747. When this all started I was running JB 4.1.1 on it. Then I flashed CM10 and that went great. After I flashed CM10 my phone said that I was on JB 4.3. Did CM update JB and the bootloader? I know that trying to flash an older bootloader can cause troubles. Afater I had CM running I tried to flash LeanKernel and this is when I bricked my phone. So my questions is, do I need to flash the ROM for JB4.1.1 or for JB 4.3? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Look buddy, the first thing you want to do is flash the latest STOCK rom for you're model. After you've done that you can now backup you're stock rom via recovery (TWRP recommended), after that you now have a stable rom to return to just in case you fail to flash a custom rom. And I would recommend one of the stock mod roms to get the use of all of Samsung's exclusive features. Good luck, and feel free to ask any more questions.

Hey thanks. I really appreciate the help. I got in a little over my head so I'm just trying to get ahead of the learning curve as quick as possible. Now I've searched around for the stock 4.3 flash able ROM and am having trouble finding a clear cut download for it. Do you have a recommendation of where I can find the JB 4.3 stock to flash with ODIN?

There isn't an odin flashable 4.3 rom for i747. The last thing there is is 4.1.1 then the 4.3 you would take as an ota. I highly doubt cm updated your bootloader. Floating around the forums is an sd unbrick method. You could try that. I don't have experience with it, but quite a few people have. Good luck.

Maybe this would work : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2498233 Do some research on it first then let me know. And if you want a good and stable custom rom I recommend using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2504903. Just don't choose the note 3 option, choose the stock.

This is the rom I used to root it a year ago when I got the phone. Would this be a suitable choice to un-brick my phone?

That is only a method used to root you're phone, not to unbrick it.

But to root I flashed a ROM with Odin. The ROM is linked on that page. At least that is my understanding of how rooting works. Wouldn't that've a good ROM to use to un-brick?
Have you ever updated your phone to 4.3?

Not entirely sure. Never updated to 4.3 on a stock ROM. It was on JB 4.1 before I flashed CM10. However once I flashed CM10 the settings page said my phone was on JB 4.3. So not sure if the bootloader got updated or not.
Thanks so much everyone for the help. I really appreciate it. Unfortunately the Jig did not work, so it is all a moot point in the end. Looks like the phone is going off to get JTAGed.
New to this device, but sofar I know I can run MK3 roms.but I see some roms which are MD something.can I flash any rom on my SPH-L710
If it's a new device with mk3 on it then odds are you have the Knox bootloader so you cannot flash anything lower than 4.3. Boot into download mode and if you see 'warranty bit 1 or 0' you can only flash 4.3 or higher roms.

OK, don't flash any rom that is below version 4.3, you'll end up with a brick.

A point of clarification, you can still flash any ROM from any Android build you desire-4.1.2, 4.3, 4.4. The danger is when you try to use Odin to push an older firmware which contains a different, non-Knox bootloader. That is when Knox will step in and brick your phone. Flashing custom ROM's via recovery is harmless.
For some reason I thought any lower version was a bad idea, not just Odin flashes. But after I read your reply I remember that, thanks.

From a personal standpoint, even though I don't have Knox, I just wouldn't want to go backwards anyway! That is what is fun and exciting about Android, is the new builds with new features, constantly improving on the past builds!

I flashed back to 4.1.2, my phone was not happy with 4.3 at all. Bad call quality, randomly never connecting to calls, various things acted unstable with various kernels. I love the features of 4.3, but 4.1.2 just works better for me.

Definitely a matter of YMMV for sure! I have been loving KitKat, but 4.3 did work nicely for me as well. I also rarely use anything TW based as well, so that could make a difference too.
