the only thing i dont know how is how do i flash the boot.img?
everybody saying dont flash it using CMW then how the hell can i flash it?
pls super noob here and i dont know what to do
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
Instructions are provided in most rom and kernel threads.
You need to use fastboot commands from your pc, for example:
fastboot flash boot what_ever_your_file_is_named.img

put the boot.img in the same folder your fastboot files are on your pc, then boot into your bootloader on your phone.
pick fastboot, connect your usb so it becomes fastboot usb
in the cmd prompt on your pc type fastboot flash boot boot.img
or download this program http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1634786 (courtesy of team hex)
put your boot.img in the boot.img folder
put your phone into fastboot usb
then run the program and pick flash boot.img
If you don't get it then you shouldn't have unlocked the phone in the first plce until you read up on adb/fastboot

This.
I wish more people would actually read and understand what they're doing before they start doing it. If you unlock/root your phone you NEED to know how to restore any changes you make, this usually means you need to know how to use ADB, the Recovery console and the Bootloader (the bare minimum of things you need to know).
If you don't know how to use any of these things stop whatever it is you're doing. It most likely wont end well.
You should really read up on things. Until we get soff you won't be able to flash kernels etc through cwm. Regarding adb and fastboot try reading this http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/what-is-adb-and-how-to-install-it-android/.

Using batch files to make flashing IMG faster is all well and good but learning to do it yourself is the only way to really be safe with what you're doing.

In order to unlock via HTCDev you need to flash the .bin file via fastboot so he must have some idea of how to use it!

I've tried this batch file many times, it rescued me from bootloops and softbricks.
Instructions:
Download the .rar file
Open it and extract to desktop
Place the boot.img in the folder ( boot.img flasher.rar > boot.img flasher )
Reboot ur phone in fastboot mode ( adb reboot bootloader )
Run the batch/sh file for ur OS
Flash the ROM
Enjoy!

I come from the SGAce forums where flashing is just download-and-flash method and now I wanna try the HTC One X and use ARHD Rom (used it on my friend's Gnexus) And I really don't know what to do! It's just too complicated for me
My bootloader is already unlocked and it's only a test phone I borrowed cause I'm not sure what to buy yet
If anyone can help Here as well as ow to flash the rom and the .bat file
THANK YOU A LOT
First you need unlock bootloader to flash custom recovery. Follow this guide for example how to do it.
After recovery, make a backup of your current rom.
After backup, download ARHD 5.1.0 and superwipe script to your sdcard, after you got them both flash boot.img from ARHD thread. (Download this & run "install-boot.bat") This is mandatory because without S-OFF one can't flash boot.img from recovery, and without boot.img flashed one can't boot their device or it won't work properly.
Then to the basic flashing process, boot to recovery and flash superwipe script and afterwards flash ARHD and you're good to go!
BTW, you don't need to flash firmware files

Hello!
I am on Stock ROM, and i received an OTA update (3.14.707.24). But when i tried installing it, it boots in CWM and gives me an error.
Will it work if i chose the update file with the CWM option: "Install from a zip file" ?
If it´s not possible, do i have to relock bootloader only? or i have to remove CWM as well?
Thanks!
You must be on stock recovery

I understand that the link you provided is for ROM´s, but what i need is the original recovery. Is it the only way to get the official recovery?
My phone Cid, is HTC_044 unbranded, so i narrowed the list to these.. wich suits me best?

Those are RUU's u dont need that .
U need the stock recovery
Download from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30863908&postcount=1
I think im getting closer to a solution and understanding the process.
I dont have a backup of the recovery, so i must download the original firmware like Flameon said.
The problem is that the links are for premium filefactory users, so im stuck there. =(
Assuming you have a fasboot folder on your computer with adb tools just download the stock recovery.img file from above and put it into the same folder, right click the folder icon and open the command prompt, then type:
Fasboot flash recovery recovery.img
Fastboot erase cache
Fastboot reboot

Hi there,
I have spend couple of hours on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2002349
I want to install some jellybean 4.2.x ROM.
there are lots of lots of metrial on rooting , unlocking too many terminology.
Some of the forum post on this site which were valid earilier for S-off are now no more valid.
Most of them assume that readers know a few thing about rooting process, which turns out to be untrue in my case.
Is there any step by step guide for installing custom rom on HTC desire HD, which upto date?
I have understood what S-Off and S-On means, its a lock that is installed on HTC phone which disallows any hampering ( rooting etc)
in order to install any custom first thing is we need to do S-Off. there are lots of tools available for this, I am not sure which one to go with,
using wrong one will make my phone unusable and may be un-repairable. There seems to be some tool which would S-Off permanently and some would do it temporarily .
After S-Off is done whats next? how to flush memory.
My purpose behind installing a custom RAM is not getting new features. its following
1) A Factory Reseted HTC desire HD has 411 MB memory already full , After restarting post factory reset.
that's less, I can't increase the RAM , so can I install a light weight ROM , which has very less pre-loaded apps.
2) Performance :Sometime its dam slow. un explainable. yo udial someone , it will dial literally after 3-5 minutes.
You don't need S-Off to root. Use the Easy Ace Root Tool.

if you just unlock your phone through htcdev unlock..still S-ON bootloader..then you must flashing manually boot.img extracted from the rom.zip it self after every installing any new custom rom..
1st installing the rom.zip from recovery and reboot to bootloader again after installing rom.zip
2nd select FASTBOOT
3rd extracted the boot.img from rom.zip it self
4th copy the boot.img to your sdk/ android tools folder
5th connect your phone with computer through usb (indicator in your phone is "FASTBOOT USB")
6th open your sdk/ android tools folder through cmd then type "fastboot flash boot boot.img"
7th reboot your phone..and wait about 5-10 minute of the booting rom for the first time...
if your phone bootloader already S-OFF then you don't need to flashing manually again the boot.img from the rom.zip
hopefully this can help...

no, it's not htc stock kernel... to find out if the phone is unlocked enter the bootloader and look if the top flag is "unlocked" or "relocked"...
i never flashed a sony device, so i can't tell for sure...
in htc you have to flash the boot.img from rom zip via fastboot and then the rom zip via recovery...
Because you already have CM on your device that means your device is bootloader unlocked
I have rooted and flashed my sisters Xperia which is to similar to ARC , so here are couple of points you need to know before start flashing ROMs and kernels
1-On HOX we have an hboot which is like a bios for a PC which mostly its s-on
2-hboot will not allow you to flash any ROM in a single flash because its will not allow you to flash the boot.img file of it's kernel
3-so when flashing any ROM or kernel you need to flash ROM zip file from recovery then you need to extract boot.img file from ROM zip on your PC and boot into bootloader to push the extracted boot.img from your PC using this fastboot command every time "fastboot flash boot boot.img" if you are using Linux you may have to start your command with sudo
So for flashing here on HOX it's same for ROMs as for kernels
To change recovery for HOX it's nearly as same as flashing boot.img
For recovery you need to get into bootloader to flash the needed recovery.img using fastboot command "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"
And after each fastboot command you need to place this command order "fastboot erase cache" to prevent boot loops

It's normal. Download mode is looking for an RUU file. With the M9 RUU are flashed from the SD-card.
You have to rename the ruu.zip to opjaimg.zip then when you boot to download mode it detects the zip and you can flash it from the phone without fastboot. I don't know if the same can be done with just a firmware.zip. though.

You need to use fastboot for that.
Put the .img file I your fastboot folder on your PC. And put phone to Download mode.

Although any .img from the firmware will have been flashed when you flashed the firmware.zip
