HDMI for Arc? - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What's up, fellas?
I just wanted to ask a quick question: What type of HDMI cable works with Arc?
I have already two HDMI's, one for my PS3/laptop(obviously doesn't fit) and one for my HD video camera(whose connector is still too large, although it's smaller than the other one).
So I believe there are three types of HDMIs. What are the small ones "called"? (model number?)
Thanks for help!

Usb to 3.5mm jack

anyone use this on artemis ?
Work this on mda compact 3 (artemis) ?
http://www.semsons.com/2miusband3st.html
haven't used it, but have used several adaptors with 2 or 3 connectors from the main mini usb - reckon it should be fine
I have one of the 3 port units on a short lead. It does the same job as your adapter and works fine. Your unit is more compact as it doesn't use a lead like mine.
I got two adapters from ebay, one with a built-in microphone and one without, both mini-USB to 3.5mm jack. But on both the sound quality was really bad. The sound was phased or flanged. Using the original headphones not. How can that be? Does anyone know of a small adapter, with or without microphone, that gives good quality? At best one available in Germany and, of course, not too expensive.
I have a mini-usb to 3,5 mm and to mini-usb female cable. this adapter is very useful because at the same time it's possible to hear music and to charge battery. With 3,5 mm plug i can connect any earphone, and when I use a good one like sennheiser the audio quality is excellent.
ok luigug, thanks for that. is it small? i would like to have one permanently in my pocket. would you mind telling me where you got it, possibly with a link?
The adapter is small enough. I have bought it on eBay, the link is this
http://cgi.ebay.it/AAJ-ADATTATORE-S...39:1|66:2|65:12|240:1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
Looks cute. Price is alright too. Unfortunately they send only within Italy. I live in Germany.
I think that you can find a similar product also from other international ebay sellers. It is sufficient to check that characteristics are the same of my adapter.

TV out cable?

I see the option in settings, anyone test it on the vibrant and what cable was used? I was at CompUSA formerly known as tiger-direct and they did not have any cables to test.
So any suggestions?
samsung has one on their accessories page for the galaxy s, but it's backordered.
http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/...index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail&tab=accessories
but next time do a little searching this has been brought up like 2-3 other times, the vibrant is pretty new so there aren't a lot of discussions yet, if you would have looked for a good 2 minutes at least you would have already found the answer to this, try searching first so we can keep the noobish threads down to a minimum
no disrespect just trying to keep the forums clutter free, but the same question shouldn't be asked more than 3 times in a week
Hi
You have a video test at this link : frandroid.com/23578/samsung-galaxy-s-la-sortie-audiovideo-avec-le-jack-35mm/
And you can find the cable on ebay, it s not a specific cable for SGS.

I have one too, it came with a video camera I own. I thought it didn't work either, but it turns out the Red connector was the video out (instead of the Yellow). I remember reading that someone else saw the same thing with their cable.
How is the quality on a HD display? I'm a little concerned that it is not an hdmi cable.
didn't work, turned it on before plugging the cable in.
I'll try swapping the red and yellow like mentioned above

Radio Shack
I picked mine up from the local Radio Shack and it works great the quality was as good as it gets for non-hd. (not listed on their website, but they have it in the stores) Part#1603686 With this cable the red is the video and yellow and white are sound. Amazon also sells the exact same cable for cheaper. In the store it is $29.99 on amazon it is $9.95. Beware what cable you buy because from trial and error I found out that some cables will not work no matter what way you switch the colors (they look exactly the same but the wiring to the jack is different). There is a ground on some cables that bridges the audio and video pins on the phone and just causes a buzzing no matter how you plug them in.

*On a side note I was ticked to find out that they block you from playing the Avatar movie through the video out. Probably so you don't hook it to a DVD recorder, but still I should be able too watch a movie I own on any device I want. I just wanted to watch in on a bigger screen. Oh well.

I think that is way off lol. It's probably because of the backorder. They might not be accepting any more orders until their first orders are filled.

That is not the right cable! The cable 6160 uses s-video for the video and the 3.5mm for sound only. The 3.5mm end needs to have 3 seperators and if you look in the pic it only has 2 which makes it an audio connection only. It says that in the product description that I pasted below.
This is S-Video/3.5mm to Composite/Stereo Combo Cable.
Video Connector : S-video to Composite RCA (Provides Video)
Audio Connector : 3.5mm to Stereo RCA (Red/White) (Provides Audio Only)

Insanely cheap USB OTG [from HK]

Not sure if this has been posted before; just a heads-up in any case
DealExtreme.com (HK-based) is offering a *PAIR* of USB-OTG Micro-USB (SGS2 compatible) adapters for $2.20 with free worldwide shipping! This is ~£1.50 for two, or 75p each. They're confirmed compatible by MrPilipo below; thanks
The reviews say that basically, they work fine on a multitude of devices. The only downside is, obviously, they're from HK with dirt-cheap shipping; it took mine two weeks to arrive. I've bought loads from DX.com before and they are very good, except for speed (hey, it's cheap) and except for returns - just a warning. But I doubt you'd want to return these
However, you can get discounts when you buy a large number of them - so if you bought 20 pairs to resell, they'd be £1 a pair - 50p per item, including shipping!
Link:
http://www.dealextreme.com/p/micro-usb-on-the-go-host-otg-adapter-pair-50774
My SGS2 will arrive on Wednesday, so I can test the ones I have already. Build quality seems good just by throwing them at stuff.
Already bought those, arrived today. It works perfectly.
Great to hear, thanks What's the speed like? Could you watch 1080p from a USB stick, for example?
thank you <3
Speed is as good as on any other USB OTG adapter, which means that 1080p is fully playable.
Ordered a pair

I was just unsure about these products in particular; in hindsight it seems like a bit of a silly thing to be worried about.
Aren't MicroUSB and USB the exact same, but with different sized metal bits? So the adapter's just feeding it through to a different sized plate, no black magic/ conversion/ end of DFS sale required.
EDIT: Though I realise a slightly more complex setup is required for it to be USB OTG.

Other than having a device which will recognise that you are using USB OTG, it is pretty much wires running from one set of pins to the other. Believe that USB has 4 pins, whilst MicroUSB have 5, and all that needs to be done is to match up the relevant pins and make sure pin 4 on the Micro is also grounded.
thanks a lot for the link... just placed an order, chances are it'll arrive before the S2 arrives (in India) !!

From others, the N8 cable is shaped slightly different and won't fit in a standard micro usb port.
My SGS2 just arrived. These are tested working with a USB stick and USB mouse - amazing! Didn't work with my USB keyboard though... hmph
Not getting my SGS2 any time soon(learning and have no time for this yet )
but I just ordered it, finally something that works!
thank you!

USB otg is prety pointless to be honest, i tried 5 different USB sticks, only one worked which had transfer of 1.5 - 2 MB/s and it's 2GB
all the high speed onces didnt work,
i was hoping that at least the 16GB one will work, but it didnt
has anyone tried if NTFS drive would work? mine didn't :S

Interesting, I'll try to remember to gather some more sticks to test soon. Everything I've tried has worked like a charm, and it happily copied some PS1 games from a memory stick to the internal flash (~700MB) in perhaps 1-2 minutes.

"You see a friend and want to transfer some files that either one of you has on a flash drive, but you dont have a laptop or pc around. you do not worry about it cos you have SGS2 with USB OTG feature that works with most USb flash drives."
I expect this kind of functionality, not just a feature that every time I use it to hope that it would work

[Q] ZL Desktop charger cradle

Hi all
I was wondering if anyone has bought or found a device specific desktop synchronization cradle for the ZL.
I bought my ZL a couple of weeks ago and was suprised to find the usual places like ebay and amazon don't appear to sell one.
I would be really greatful if anyone out there has found one and share the link or point me in the right direction.

It is also my question!!

I use Breffo SpiderPodium & angled microUSB cable with mine. Not device-specific, but works really well. Can't really see what dedicated dock could give on top (at least as long as it will be just usual USB dock).

Xperia Z1 and MHL-HDMI adapters.

Hey guys.
I'm getting the Z1 in a couple of days, switching from my Alcatel OT995 (a tremendous little best-buy phone).
I'm getting acquainted with all the accessories and I spotted that there are MHL adapters out there that support CEC (meaning I can control the Z1 via a TV remote). I'm trying to avoid the official Sony one because of its price, so I scoured eBay a bit...
The typical usage scenario I am aiming at is connecting the Z1 to the HDTV and then watching movies through XBMC, while controlling playback via a remote (through the CEC protocol).
However, I am trying to confirm some eBay items that I found...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Micro-USB-M...Phone_PDA_Cables_Adapters&hash=item2c731846ad
^^This one includes a little remote which supposedly allows controlling the Z1, it's $18.
Does anyone have any experience with this?
I also found this cheaper one ($9), but supposedly only for Samsung Galaxy. It looks like the exact same product for me, with the Samsung adapter included: http://www.ebay.com/itm/A-S0-Remote...Phone_PDA_Cables_Adapters&hash=item3f2e3709b3
If anyone has actual first-hand experience with this, it might be of help to a lot of people who wouldn't mind using the Z1 as a media center

I buy MHL follow http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GI6r7SEiaOk but not work for Z1
SO SAD!!!!!
I recently ordered a bunch of cables and stuff from amazon for my nexus devices because I was having trouble with my Slimport piece of crap junk... I don't have a Z1... I lost mine but... my girl has a Z1S from t-mobile...
With my Z1, i used a MHL 1.0 adapter that i gave her, she wanted a MHL to HDMI cable ( no adapter, and possibly 2.0) so in my amazon order, i went ahead and got this....
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CUU6K5M/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
... it DID NOT WORK... so i returned it... and got this...
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ESM3TTA/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
this, also, DID NOT WORK on the Z1s.... so , i kept trying... and i ordered this...
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00I5J6WVY/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
this one WORKED PERFECT....
Now, I noticed it came with an extra cable to increase the length of the part that goes into the phone (mircroUSB)... I noticed those two other cables that did NOT work, had the longer microUSB connection... so im concluding that there are two diff types of MHL? im not sure..... but the SHORTER microUSB connector is the one that works..
So if anyone needs a MHL to HDMI straight connector, that blue one is the one. unfortunately, it is out of stock right now, but i can CONFIRM, it works perfect with the Z1s
any questions? PM me or post here.
