[Q] Best Galaxy Nexus ROM so far? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hey guys. Just wanted your opinion on what ROM you think is the best out there right now. I have a VZW Nexus and i wanna get into romming. Obviously, there's many choices out there that i can flash, but I'm looking for a ROM that gives me great performance, reasonable battery life, and a decent amount of fine tweaks/customization settings. What do you guys think?

Aokp M5 absolutely give you feeling sacrificed with so much more tweaks/customization settings, friendly battery & stabler. What a rom should be!

Galaxy Nexus AOKP m5 Franco kernel m3

is everything working on AOKP? eg vid and camera at high resolution? i cant seem to find anything about them.

I didnt like aokp with Franco. That was my first flash on my GSM nexus but I can't see how that can be much different. The rom does have an amazing amount of customization but it felt sluggish and unstable (sleep of death). I decided to go with bug less beast with glados instead and haven't looked back since.
Currently running smoothly with 3+ hour screen time, 20+ hour total on battery. Moderate usage.

Very happy w lean kernel and cm9 combo.
I'm running at 1.5ghz CPU and 512mhz gpu and getting over 4 hours of screen time w screen brightness set at 25% and quandrant scores of 4000.
Superfast and great battery life.

it's a matter of opinion really.. but I like AOKP best. I have tried a few of the major roms and I keep coming back.
Try a few and see what you like.

AOKP M5 + Franco M3 for a bugless, smoothed experience.

AOKP
Relatively new to flashing etc myself , Tried a good few different roms originally basically a new one every week for 4 to 5 weeks. Since going to Milestone 4 AOKP with Franco, ive effectively just updated everytime there was a new build and loved every second of it. Great UI customisation as well as system tweaks. Currently on Build 36 and Franco nightly r161.
On a similar note not too sure whether to stick with Franco's stable builds or go to the nightly though ? Seemed to get amazing battery life with the stable build but not as great as i'd have expected on the nightlies.

Can someone post a link to the AOKP? I have no idea how to about Kernels though. I just flashed Eclipse last night, and its great.

Aokp.co
Should get the latest ones on that, just click the build then your model and you will get a link to the file.
Kernel flashing is fairly similar to a rom, as I said I'm fairly new too but after flashing your ROM you flash the kernel in the same way, flash the G'Apps and then reboot. Make sure you flash your kernel after your rom to ensure the kernel included in the rom is effectively changed
If Franco is the kernel you are looking to go for there is an App in the store. In the app there is an option to 'Auto-Flash' his kernels.
Very very simple if you don't want to go for the first option, obviously only useful for Franco though.

Does anyone run AOKP with the stock kernel that comes with the ROM? Just wondering..

Well i have been using AOKP for the last 3 months and havent find any bug... all the issues i had with was my fault... guess if it has bugs they would have been showed up by this time huh?

Wow! A lot of AOKP praise here. AOKP is good, but not great in my opinion. I feel it is bloated w unnecessary code, and can make the ROM sluggish (at times). If you want a ROM w every tweak under the sun, go AOKP. I just flashed SLIM rom for CDMA a few days ago with Franco kernel r160, and this is the best my phone has ever ran in terms of battery life and performance, and it has 90% of the AOKP features since the dev cherry picked from their customization options. I highly recommend giving this a shot.

ROM+Kernel Recommendations For New Galaxy User

I just finished rooting my Galaxy Nexus (Sprint) and I'm looking for a decent ROM+Kernel combo to flash...
I'm coming from an OG Evo 4G and while there were ALOT of nice ROMS I'd say that about 9 out of 10 were "working fully"...by working fully I mean with no real issues...I understand that one or two things might not work that great but there were alot of ROMs that seemed like they were just pushed out to be the first with the latest "flavor of the month"...
I understand it takes tons of work to make custom ROMs and I appreciate all the hard work, but some folks just seemed like they threw anything together and flashed it...and also offered no support on the issues that popped up...
I can't decide whether to just leave this new phone rooted/stock or flash something...I just don't wanna go through constant FC's and non-working features on a brand new device...
I know most people say "flash it and find out for yourself" but I'm just asking a simple question here...just wanna know if most of these ROMs are solid...
so if there are any recommendations please post em up...
I'm sure there are some ridiculous ROMs for this phone because the phone itself is CRAZY!!
One other question- since I use Sprint do I have to look for ROMs for Sprint devices only or are all the Galaxy Nexus ROMs okay to flash?
Thanks.
So... you should just stay stock rooted.
Looks like the sprint dev section has most of the major players ported.
They are all stable for the most part.
I'm running Franco kernel nightly 152, that's there.
But Doesn't look like the ROM I'm on is ported yet.

Milestone 5 is out.
If you're just looking for a general outline, the big four are Gummy, AOKP M5, Miui, and CM9 alpha.
Of those I'd say AOKP gives you the most customization while miui gives you the least. Most other builds I've seen for the gnex are usually inferior (IMHO) builds of those 4.
I don't notice a huge difference between custom kernels but one major benefit is being able to set the clock speed. I know Franco does that when paired with the $3 app. So you can't go wrong there.
Good luck.

I'll suggest same as many others - AOKP M5 + nightly franco.kernel 152. Really buttery smooth and bug free experience.
Liquidsmooth + Francokernel is pretty good. very smooth, lots of useful tweaks, great battery life too.

Best battery life with smooth performance and stock AOSP experience...the GOOGLE way.
BlackIce Kangorade by travp624 (on RootzWiki or Goo) or CM9 Kang by winner00. A very solid rom!! All the roms are great! For or a kernel that's fast and stays at an extremely low temp I always wind up sticking with Trinity! Great kernels, big selection! 1344/345 or the TUV.. I've flashed around and with these Trinity I always get 4+ on the screen ..
(w/heavy usage!!) You will notice a difference right away and just gets better. Also grab the app (Trinity Toolbox) Has some that aren't available to pubic and it's good to support the devs!! If you have never flashed Kangorade you are missing out! Amazing rom!!!!
Yes, most of the ROMs are quite stable, the exceptions to the rule seem to be clearly labeled as unstable. Yes, you will need to flash Sprint (toroplus) ROMs but you can flash any of the Galaxy Nexus kernels. Most of the mods and themes should probably work too but you'll probably have greater luck trying a CDMA version rather than GSM.

[Discussion]What ROM are you using and why?

This isn't really a question, but a discussion of what ROM you are using and why, that''s why I don't think this should be in the Q&A section.
I've tried a few ROMs, from LiquidSmooth to AOKP and I've tried a few kernels as well, from Glados to Franco and I've made up my mind.
I think AOKP is the best ROM right, and Milestone 5 being the best build of AOKP. It has a good battery life, awesome performance, and a massive amount of settings. I though about mentioning CM9 first, since it also has good battery speed and awesome performance, but it doesn't have all those features I need.
The best kernel to go with AOKP is undoubtedly Franco's kernel and his best build is the Milestone 3. I have tried Imoseyon's kernel, Trinity kernel and Galdos kernel and Franco's is still the best one. Also having Franco's kernel updater app makes everything even better!
Of course, this is all personal, which means this is what I think and you may have a mix that work better for you. I just though I'd share my input. Now, please share your input.
BAMF Paradigm or my own AOSP build. I don't mess with kernels much past what comes with rom (Not to say others shouldn't). I have been using imnut's pbj kernel the last few days, however.
Reasoning: Not so many tweaks that they end up conflicting with each other, time was taken to use proper signing keys, and the modifications are thoroughly tested before release.
I don't tell people what to use, as I let them make up their own mind. Just know I don't use anything I deem poor quality.
Got my nexus one week ago. flashed the most popular Roms here (but cm9) and was kinda disappointed. Coming from a galaxy s2 with roms full of bugs I expected the nexus roms to be stable because of the open nexus. But most of the roms been unstable and buggy for me too.
Now I found a good combination of Rom and kernel:
Bamf and glados kernel.
So far the most stable and battery saving combination for me. Using it since 24 hours and no FC or freezes so far. Think I'll stick with it.
Mods are cool too I just don't like the quick settings look in the notification bar and the not modable power menu. But I can live with that.

It's gonna be real hard for me to adapt with another ROM other than AOKP, if I ever switch to some other ROM ^^
AOKP Milestone 5, but I'm switching to the Paranoid Android. Love the 'hybrid' tablet/phone mix
I'm currently running Liquidsmooth with Imoseyon's kernel. I was planning to try a lot more Roms and kernel combos than I currently have but been a bit too busy lately to test each one thoroughly. I'm happy with Liquidsmooth, it has very few issues and I'm getting 2 days battery life (minimum) with moderate usage.
Next time I get a decent chance I will try out a few more

I'm using liquid smooth with the provided kernel. USB tethering isn't working but the lightweight and zippy feel of the from beats everything out there. I also have a nandriod of Paranoid Android, miui.us, Imm30b, and aokp just in case they improve enough to be worthy of a couple weeks on my phone. The aokp launcher IMHO hesitates too much.

I tried almost everything we have for now and stick to Modaco ROM because it's the smoothest of all, other roms are greatly customisable like CM9 or AOKP but they all lag here and there and i can't stand it/ The battery life is almost similar in all roms and it depends more on kernel you've chosen. I'm fine with franco milestone3. However I don't use nightlies because every of them gave me a random reboot at least once.

AOKP vs Cyanogen 9 vs Slim ICS?

Which rom do you like best and why?
I'm currently running CM9, Coming from the stock GSM 4.0.1, I think the battery on CM9 is heaps better but what are the others like? Thanks.
I want battery percentage (required) and possibly OC.
Also, If i was to flash AOKP is there any way to backup my homescreen? I've spent a while setting it up and it takes a while to do so. Thanks

Aokp got more features and less stability. I prefer cm coz I can't withstand frequent reboot. Can't stay on aokp more than one day.
I am using Nova launcher. It got backup function.
But I prefer to use ROM manager + cwm to backup the whole ROM before I try sth new and risky.

How does the battery compare? I'm on AOKP now and I find it very unstable. Once I click unlock it takes like 2 seconds for screen to come on.
I use AOKP M5 on a daily basis and I have been since M4 and its stable as a rock for me. Plus all the features are a great plus
Cm9 is too incomplete.. aokp is too slow. Slim has all the aokp features and its fast

I too was wondering the sake, I just got my GN yesterday rooted it and first thing I did was flash AOKP because I've heard so much about it coming from a GS2. And so far I found it stable but am curious about CM9 and slim as well. So I too would appreciate some feedback
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I've been using AOKP with the tuv A1 kernel. For the most part it has been pretty stable and faster than what I was used to. The only times I have had any issue is with a lockscreen. If I use one, sometimes the phone freezes when trying to unlock. This has been frustrating for me since I am using a Seidio case. I have to remove the phone case to get to the back to pull the battery. The battery cover is a big enough pain in the ass. The case makes it worse. I have since turned off the lockscreen completely and I haven't had a freeze in 2 days.
I was kinda leaning towards slim ICS as well to test the waters on that one.

so make a nandroid backup and go and try the rom.
no one can tell you the ROM is good/bad or whatever, you have to make that conclusion yourself. its like saying, rock music is the best music. some people may agree and some will disagree. will you decide the answer to it without trying it? no... just go try it.
there are WAY too many threads on "whats the best rom?" "which rom to use?" ..... just read the thread and conclude yourself.
AOKP is not slow. CM9 is definitely incomplete hence "nightly"
I have never heard of a slim rom. Wish they would port it to the Sprint GN.
I'm on CM9 but Slim is a good, lightweight, quick ROM. It has some of the features of popular features of AOKP built in. I've run it in the past, and wouldn't hesitate to run it again.
Using slim now, never got a full day out of AOKP, to unstable for me. How does the battery compare? I remember having 50% after one day with data off and 2g on on CM9, and wondering how the battery compares.
you forgot liquidsmooth!
personally, i use aokp m5 and have had no problems...
I am running the latest CM9 Nightly on my Verizon Nexus, and my Wife's Nexus is on AOKP 5.
My personal opinion I prefer CM9, is more low key and not so flashy, but still super fast / smooth, and has a great color control to really make the AMOLED screen pop.
I do like the million options AOKP 5 offers in settings, but CM9 will be getting those eventually. But something about the stripped down clean feel of CM9 appeals to me more.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
CM9 for sure its rock solid and stable and the kernel is superfast and great on battery like you said. Just wait until they put theme manager in again ... it may be there as soon as the next nightly it looks like
AOKP is unstable, I always ditch it and its getting a bit bloated for my liking and i don't find I use much of the features anyway
Slim ICS is good if you dont want any features lol
AOKP not stable and slow? Mmmm disagree from here to heaven...
Been on aokp since m4 now on m5 + Franco, run buttery smooth and great battery /feature rich.. Had not a single problem with it and wouldn't change it for anything
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Never had a single problem with AOKP and I use my phone heavily on a variety of features plus benchmark tests as well.
That was all with a dirty flash from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4 builds so I don't understand where the slow or unstable is coming from.
if you stick to the milestone releases with AOKP you are *pretty much* good to go but the in between builds are always buggy ... like the build where AOKP set your bluetooth address to a generic one for and not your actual phones address, for example. I've also had random reboots with AOKP. AOKP uses it's users as the beta testers and gets bug reports from them.
the OP asked for advice and i told him my experience with AOKP, other users mileage may vary but, there is no denying AOKP non milestone releases have new bugs per release. Having said that AOKP is a beast of a rom and Team Kang are pushing the forefront for ICS features.
IMO if the OP wants a smooth rom with stability and more features properly tested and added daily you can not beat the CM9 experience on the Gnex. that is all

[Q] Can anyone suggest me the ROM that suits my needs?

Well, I am now the proud owner of my Galaxy Nexus and loving every bit of it. Especially, after flashing it to Stock 4.0.4 (yakju) IMM76I (previously was on 4.0.2 yakjujp), I like the improvements and the bettery life has also increased a bit.
Now, as this is my first ever Android phone, I was a bit hesitant with this flashing and rooting things, but somehow I've overcome my fear and flashed it to 4.0.4 yakju and Rooted as well. Now as I've dived into this flashing and rooting things, the custom ROMs are attracting me and I'm seriously thinking of flashing a good ROM. So, guys can you suggest me a ROM that really suits my needs?
Here is what I want from a ROM:
Better battery life (at least that matches the battery life of Stock ROM, if not more than that.) And it's worth mentioning here that I'm not a heavy user, and my battery lasts for 20-21Hrs with Stock ROM.
I like the Stock user interface, so I'd love to flash a ROM that has similar-to-stock interface.
Some added features than that of Stock ROM.
That's all I want.
Now, another question that is confusing me that what is the difference between ROM and kernal? Do custom ROMs come with their kernal? Or do I need to flash one on my own? As I don't have any Android background, descriptive answer will be much appreciated!!
Cm9. Skankwich or just the official cm9. Since your a "newbie" I would just stay in the stock kernel. Once you have some knowledge under your belt you can move onto kernel flashing
Oops roms come with kernels yes... they have too lol otherwise it wouldn't boot. Oh and...

Aokp with Franco Kernel.
Build 38 of Aokp has many of the same features of Cyanogen. But you can flash Milestone 5 of aokp (won't have any bugs and is completely stable, that's what Milestone means) it just won't have all of the features the latest build has.
Aokp comes pre loaded with a much better launcher than stock as well. I believe Nova launcher. It keeps the same look as the stock Ice Cream Sandwich launcher but has a ton of options and tweaks.
Aokp is packed full of features you'll just have to explore yourself. All of the ROM settings are in the "rom control" section in the Settings app.
Make sure to flash the GApps pack right after flashing aokp (most other roms as well), and before rebooting. The Google apps are included in a separate zip file for legal reasons. You need to flash them to sign in with your Google account.
Franco Kernel just makes everything better. Especially if you download the Franco app from the Play store. From that app you can download, flash (install) and control many aspects of the kernel including screen color tweaks to get more accurate color among other things. The app makes the process so easy for beginners.
Also, be sure to make a backup before flashing whatever new rom you flash in case anything goes wrong.
By backup I mean a full system Nandroid backup through Clockworkmod recovery of course.
Let me know if you have any questions!

By the way, both aokp rom and Franco kernel are crowd favorites!
Another feature of Franco kernel allows you to further decrease the minimum CPU speed to 192mhz instead of the standard 3xx (not entirely sure of the number) to help with battery.

Vote for CM9 here. It's still stock like without going too overboard with the extra features.
Aokp has a lot of features but there is a lot going on and CM9 has all of the "killer" features of aokp anyway. Cm9 seems a little faster and overall feeling of the ROM is closer to a stock feel than aokp in my opinion.

It's a revolutionnary rom that transform your device to tablet.
You have to be rooted and on a CM9 rom before flashing it but it really easy to flash and to use as daily rom.
I won't even bother with the rom suggestion.
Every user is different.
And everyone will prefer something different...
That being said...
Some advice?
a ) Check my sig (post two of the GNex Guide) to learn how to correctly install a rom/kernel.
b ) When you try a rom out...test it for the full day. See if you like it.
If you think you do...make a nandroid (details also in my guide, if needed) that you can restore if the next rom you try isn't your cup 'o tea.
c ) Test Kernels after you've found a rom you like. Again, make sure to keep them on your phone for at least the full day in order to get an unbiased judgement on battery/performance.
All roms look like stock except paranoid Android.
YOU have to try different roms to see which one gives YOU the best battery life. Other people cannot tell you what will give you the best battery life for your usage and habits.
"Long is the way, and hard, that out of hell leads up to light."
AKOP, with every release has bugs, some pretty big bugs too, i would never suggest it other than milestone releases. Some milestones had bugs too. AOKP has lots of features but you are not likely to use many of them.
Cyanogenmod 9 i will suggest its highly stable and right now they are polishing it for a official stable release.
Kernel for battery life Jame Bond hands down the best.
Give CM9 a try first. If you're aching for more go with AOKP with Franco kernel. You will not be disappointed.

Yeah that wasnt biased at all...
To be honest CM9 will be the OP's best bet... just enough customization to define it from stock and just as stable.

Aren't we all just suggesting roms that we have used and liked that seem to meet the OP's requests?
Or are you suggesting roms you haven't used and/or that you don't like?
Not sure why the fact that I use the ROM I suggested makes me any more biased than anybody else who posted in this thread.
it's not like I'm the developer or something.

The fact you described EXACTLY what your running was biased. I'm running cm9 but I've used it all... and cm9 has always been the most stable. Actually using skankwich.

I'd suggest you to install AOKP rom and francos kernel. If u need battery life and a fast system u should try it!!
Will go for CM9 and then AOKP
Thankx guys for all your valuable opinions, I really do appreciate that!
Now, after reading all the replies, I think, initially i should opt for CM9 or AOKP. So, I'll test them and see which on fits my needs. And as Jubakuba suggested, I'll rather concentrate on finding a suitable ROM for me and then will opt to find a suitable kernal.
Now, as i go to http://get.cm/?device=maguro to get CM9, I've found that they all are nightly builds, so from where can I get CM9 stable release for GN? Also it will be very grateful to you if anyone can provide a link to download AOKP Milestone for GN. And I'm a newbie, so sorry if I sound dumb!!
Rom download link for aokp

here is the link to AOKP milestone 5: http://aokp.co/index.php/releases/_/milestone-5-r20
don`t forget to read the installation instructions (wipe, gapps!)
i am using this too, and it is solid as a rock, whatever some people in this thread are talking about...
soon there will be a stable cm9 release ( http://www.cyanogenmod.com/blog/cm9-code-freeze-has-started), i will give it a shot, as i had good experiences with cyanogen in the past.
with a nandroid backup the way back is pretty easy
A huge caveat of installing custom roms is the hassle of having to remerge your contacts. I have contacts across linked in, Facebook, Gmail, Skype, whatsapp, etc and remerging the contacts is always a pain. If you're in this situation just upgrade to a custom kernel. You get many of the benefits of a custom ROM without having to go through much of the hassle.
Check out the latest milestone of Franco kernel.

A little kernel showdown | Franco vs Air vs Nyan

Hello everybody
Let me introduce myself a little, as I'm new to the Galaxy Nexus forum.
I'm lippol94, young recognized developer over the I9000 forum The Samsung Galaxy S was and is my first and only Android device, but not for long. I'm about to get my Galaxy Nexus in a week, hence I started reading over and over all the kernel and rom threads to get to know thsi new universe.
While on the ROM side I'm still thinking if choosing CM10 or AOKP, I'm a little more puzzled about kernels.
In the I9000 I knew every kernel developer and specific features of each. Here I'm quite lost
Reading around I found 3 kernels which I found suitable for me, basically because they keeps improving themselves every day,
Basically they are
Francisco Franco
Air Kernel
Nyan Kernel
I read very positive feedback on each thread but I'd like to know your experiences. A little face off.
What do you think about them?
I'd like to get replies from those who tried them all, to get a trustable feedback.
what I'm looking for is something with great (and I underline GREAT) battery life.
Obviously without sacrifying performance.
Thank you so much in advance!
I wish you a nice day!

hi there
IMO Franco Kernel is the best. and there is app for that very good one.

Why?
I mean, what I'm looking for is something with great (and I underline GREAT) battery life.
Obviously without sacrifying performance.
In addition, I saw Franco kernel is having many problems with keeping settings I apply within his app.
Thoughts?
Francs has the worst battery life..
trinity has the best imo, though that wasn't on your list. a lot of people swear by lean kernel for battery life too
hmm, if not Franco's, maybe faux123's?

Mmh the main reason why I haven't considered trinity is because it lacks of updates since a month. Maybe it's because is super stable / super fast etc but to me it's because he's working on another device (Nexus 7 i think). Is that so good?
No thoughts about air and nyan? Comments on their threads were promising!
Talking about lean, I read about lags (?), slowdowns (?) with his kernel. Maybe that's why it has such a good battery life

Again, why?
To me it's not enough just a name because I could simply write down all the kernel names and pick one by chance
The reason why I decided to ask in this thread is because I want real feedback.

Why update something constantly if it's working perfectly?
I have had no issues with trinity stable 35..
the others I've all found problematic in some way.
I haven't tested lean kernel though I hear a lot about it

I get five hours of screen on time, compared to three with all others I've tried.
exact same settings as well.
i had best battery life both on Franco's and faux123's kernels, and bad on Morfic's kernel, that's why

that goes against every other kernel thread I've read on this topic lol..
So unless you didn't touch settings at all, it is a common consensus that lean and trinity have best battery life
Having tried Franco, Lean, Air and Trinity, I settled on Trinity 1536/384 stable-35 with a simple AOSP JB rom. Haven't had a problem since flashing it, the ROM is smooth and snappy and I have had better life than with other configs/combos. I think Morfic has several experimental builds for Trinity which get updated/changed pretty regularly, the 'no update since a month or more' only applies to the stable version and imho why fix it if it's not broken lol.
What sort of battery life would you consider 'good'? Everyone's usage and device is diff. For me, close to 5 hrs screen on is very good and that's what I get with Trinity. I'd say pick a couple of popular roms and kernels and give them both a shot for a week or so.

Thank you
For great battery life I mean, being able to plug my device off at 7 and being able to get to 21/22 without having to charge it with a mixed usage of 3g/WiFi and Whatsapp, Facebook, Twitter, Gmail running in background all the time.
5 hours of screen on would be great and in line with other kernels but reading on Trinity thread i Saw many people complaining about battery life (referring to experimental though).
The thing is that Trinity thread is so caotic :cyclops: It's hard to find things.
In addition, I might be redundant but I was extremely pleased by this screenshot:
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/32661-kerneljb-nyan-kernel-beta-3/page__st__20#entry923567
Nyan Kernel.
What makes me tempted by this kernel is the pegasusQ governor, which seems built for multi-core devices.
Thoughts?
as a former i9000 user, i would suggest another ex-i9000 user's kernel: fugumod.
still, there's a lot of threads on this, not to mention that the same kernel can have mixed results on 2 devices, all depends on your usage.

A lot of people looking like trinity, but for me it makes the colors all messed up. Of you like updates and messing around francos app let's you do that and also includes stuff for leankernel.

That's why you change the color settings you can use any kernel ap....
I use the Franco app with trinity kernel
Some phones are 'allergic' to kernels with linaro integration..
Probably why my phone only get along well with franco and stutters with anything else.
There's also that ramdisk thingy that i dont quite understand, but if you're using franco's before, make sure u did the necessary steps to release the space that it uses.
Nyan seems to be VERY unstable for my phone. It lag spikes about every 30 seconds for 5 seconds when I play high-end games like modern combat 3. I'm not very sure how much battery it saves you though. But from how it feels, better than franco. I currently use franco's kernel. I haven't had any problems related to graphical performance, but it probably won't save you much battery at all.. very nice performance though.

i guess that you ignored the fact that trinity kernel was updated august 28th.. check the experimental tab.
