Navigation is stuck on "Searching for GPS". Is there a fix to this?
I know there is a fix around the forum somewhere for it. You might want to give us some more info like what kernel/rom you are running. I am RasBeanJelly and franco.Kernel lastest of each and my GPS locks on in less then 10secs. More info about what you are running will help us out.

I recommend switching to a different ROM such as Codename Android. Some ROMS have a GPS problem like you are describing. The kernel has nothing to do with it. Hope I helped.
Its coming on all ROMS D:
Still getting same error even after trying CNA. I even went to GPS settings and checked "Internal GPS antinna" or something. But still getting same error. Could the phone be faulty?
Have you tried either of these?

i have had instances where it was a KERNEL problem..not the rom...certain kernels couldnt lock on GPS..flashed a different one and it worked..flashed back to test it again and it didnt...so it was definitely the kernel causing it...so he can try flashing another kernel

For me even the gps icon is not blinking. How to find whether the gps hardware is faulty? So that i can stop trying other software fixes

sygic works so it's not a hardware problem.. other gps apps show me satellites.. but maps no!
Old gmail maps works but now I don't know how to install previous version.. can anyone help me?
Maybe it's a app problem (6.14 maps..)
thanks
Install GPS status from market and let it download agps data and point it towards the sky and see how that goes. If you see satellites and they lock, go back to maps; it should work now.
Some gnex came with faulty GPS module. I have two gnex and e first one I got had the problem and hasn't been fixed with several ROM, kernel and tools and GPS scripts.

gps status show me satellites.. sygic works but google maps no!!
I don't think it's a hardware problem because with previous version of maps it works! so I think it's a google maps problem.. but I don't know what to do to make maps work!
This is a Google problem, it's happened once before to a ton of android users, it may have come with an alert "unable to sign into account" (that's how mine was this morning, plus searching for GPS. All seems well now.
Hello! I know this is a common thread, but i'm desperate!
My GPS is not locking at all, i left the phone for 10 to 20 minutes and i got nothing...
I'm using the CM10.1 MoDaCo ROM, but i tried so many ROMS, fixed configuration files, walkthroughs, etc, but none of them seem to work.
I'll list all the methods that i try so far.
1) Flash a fixed configuration file
2) Change the ROM: i tried with the stock 4.2.2, CM10, CM10.1 Nightlies, CM10.1 Experimental, MoDaCo CM10.1
3) Flash different radios. I live in Chile, so i tried UGLL1 and UGKL1
4) Clear data of Google Services Framework, restart, etc
5) Used FasterGPS to set my location in the right area
6) Used GPS Status to improve AGPS
7) Change the build.prop file
I tried every method and the combination of them, but nothing has worked for me so far....
The GPS is very important for me because i use it to track my rides with Strava, and since the GPS is not working, i cannot start the application...
I really need help...
I use a Galaxy Nexus Maguro without Wallet and live in Chile. I cannot tell exactly when the GPS started to fail, but at least in the stock 4.1.2 it was working perfect, so i guess it started failing when i updated to CM10 and then to CM10.1.....
Ok try this if you haven't.
In settings turn off all location. Reboot
Make sure location reporting is still off.
Clear data on Maps force stop maps
Reboot
Clear data on maps and force stop again
Enable location
Get gps lock with maps or easy gps.
Might not work but I have had your same problem and this fixed it .... good luck

Hi!
Thanks for your answer, but unfortunately i've already tried this method with no succeed. I tried again but it didn't work...
Thanks anyway, i'm going to try to roll back to stock 4.1 (because the GPS was working with that version)
and if it really works i'm going to upgrade to 4.2 to see if i can find the error...
If someone else can give me a solution i'll appreciate it!

I already tried, but with Android 4.2.2 and it didn't work.
Before i flashed the 4.2.2 i was using stock 4.1 without problems, so i believe, and hope, that this is a software issue in the 4.2.2 update...
I'm going to try it now and i let you know.

My GPS got worse after upgrading to 4.2.2. Lock takes much longer and finds less satellites

Well, i returned to Stock Android 4.1.2 using Fastboot, but the GPS didn't work either... So i updated via OTA to 4.2.2 and the GPS didn't worked again...
But i noticed that the Nexus S belonging to my sister, wich uses CyanogenMod 10, is not working either!
So i have a doubt now: Is it possible that CyanogenMod could have ruined our GPSs? If i erased everything via fastboot, is it possible that some remains of CyanogenMod could still be breaking my GPS? Or are our GPSs, strangely, broken at the same time?!
Please Help!!!

If you've flashed the Google factory image, you have an active sim card with data connection, and gps does not work, then you have a hardware problem.

Out of my realm of expertise, but I imagine the sirf chipset is not user serviceable. Your best bet would be Samsung factory service. I'm sorry.
Well, after giving up on trying to solve my GPS problem, it fixed itself.... i know that sounds weird, but the only thing that i did was update the CM10.1 to the latest RC2 and the problem was fixed, at least partially. Now it can find some satellites and it takes like 100 seconds.
The Gnex GPS isn't the best one, so it behaves a little weird some times, but at least is fixed now...
I really don't know what could be the problem, because i tried with almost any Rom, officials and no-officials...
Finally, the CM10.1 RC2 fixed my problem, hope this could help someone else.
Enable wifi & mobile network location in settings
Should be some code in 4.2.2 that prevents you from getting AGPS data if you disable the said option.

The problem is fixed now, but i tried everything, from rolling back to 4.1 official to 4.2.2 official, CM9, CM10, CM10.1, AOKP, etc. So i really don't know what could be the problem. I also tried the solution that you told me, but that didn't work either.
Right now, with CM10.1 RC2 my GPS is working great and i'm able to use Strava again.
I've been having the same issue. I'm running a Stock Verizon Galaxy Nexus, on my third one now. I have tried everything from apps, to resets, to disconnecting the gps, and nothing seems to work. It just seems to take forever to get a GPS lock, sometimes I just have to reset it. Not sure the issue, and I can't seem to find anyone with answers either. IDK if anyone found anything??

Cold start gps can take up to 20 minutes outdoors with a clear view of the sky if you don't have current agps data. Thereafter, you should have quick starts for a day or two.
Is your data working properly? Do you have sync settings turned off?

My data is working just fine, I actually have great 4g where I'm at, and all my sync is turned on. I've never had GPS problems with any of my other phones. I had an EVO 3D, and it worked great, cold starts would take seconds to find GPS.

And you have certified that all the gps settings/permissions are turned on? Even in the Google settings app?
Since you are stock, it might be helpful for diagnosis to preform a factory reset.
Edit - I see on another thread that you have already performed a factory reset. Next step would be to flash the factory image and see if that helps.

Thanks, I'll have to look up and see how to do that without root and boot loader unlocked, this is my third Galaxy Nexus from Verizon, they keep replacing it and I keep having the same issue
And yes all setting have been turned on, kind of driving me nuts
I'm sorry for you. it must be very frustrating.
As far as flashing an official factory image, I think you can do it unlocked if you have adb set up. Or use a toolkit, unlock, flash factory, relock (or not, why not keep it unlocked?)
Hey guys I was tweaked ROM and when I open google maps it took like 5 to 10 minutes to get a gps lock. I switched ROMS and it is still doing the same thing. Any ideas on how to fix it?

Try gps status from playstore... or it could be hardware related? ... Also, maybe try stock/factory ROM.
as said gps status app..
go into menu setting forget gps. then update gps.. Been a while since i had to use it so forget the exact words... Do this out in clear sky . But do not use gpS FIX APP.. it will loose the sats.
I was about to make a thread, and I saw this. I am in the same boat as you are. Also On Tweaked 2.0
I've tried using google, xda search, and various apps to which none offered a solution to this problem.
I've installed Faster GPS from the play store, which seems to minimize the time it takes to lock. Much improvement after installing. Give it a whirl.

I have been having intermittent issues with my GPS but its getting worse. I am currently running Bonestock v2.0.2 but this has happened on other ROMs as well. Didn't use GPS enough while it was stock to know if it was an issue or not. Here is what is happening:
Some apps that use GPS including Google Maps, Car Dashboard Pro, etc will say that GPS is disabled. Google Maps will actually pop up and say its disabled and gives me the option to cancel or go to settings. If I go to settings, everything is checked implying GPS is indeed enabled. Yet Maps still says its disabled. Occasionally Maps will work for a minute and then just randomly lose the GPS signal. This was a huge PITA as I was on a 7 hour drive for a Job interview and kept losing my GPS signal. After about two hours and 4-5 reboots on the road, it finally stayed on for the rest of my trip.
Today, due to the snow storm in MI, I had to pick up a coworker on my way to work. Used Google Maps on my phone because I didn't know where he lived. It worked just fine. Dropped him off after work and tried to use Google Maps again to get out of his convoluted neighborhood, and it gave me the GPS disabled message and 2 hours later after a few reboots, and I still cannot get it to work.
Software info:
Android 4.3
Sense 5.0
Bonestock 2.0.2
Baseband 1.12.42.1104
Let me know if you need any other info off the phone to help diagnose. Any help is appreciated. For the record, I did full wipes while flashing new ROMs. This has been an issue on at least three different ROMs.
I have no experience with Bonestock but on my stock ROM the Google location settings are in a different Google Settings app and not directly controlled by GPS enable/disable. I had so many problems with Google Maps I switched to a couple of other alternatives. Have you tested to see if you have the same problems when using another app such as Osmand or Locus?

I have not tried other navigation apps, but I have several apps that use the GPS signal and they dont work either. Car Dashboard Pro provides street information and speed, but can never find satellites. I just checked the google settings app that I had tucked away in folder, but that says everything is enabled as well.

I had heard bad things about the newest OTA radio which is why I went with 1.12.42.1104. But the problem was occurring even before I flashed 1.12.42.1104, so I really don't think its the problem.
I just flashed 1.12.41.1112_2. So, we will see what happens.

SO did you fix the issues?
Honestly, I don't remember. This was 2 years ago. I've been through 4-5 phones since then. I will say, the M7 was probably the worst phone I've owned in recent years. I only used it for a few months before dumping it.
I cnat seem to get GPS to lock on. It always says searching for GPS on maps, and on waze it just says it can't get a GPS signal.
I'm on liquid smooth 4/13, and quantum kernel 4/18.
I tried messing with some build.prop setting like the gprsclass and others and nothing will fix it. I even updated the gps with android tweaker 2 from the play store.
I can't even get gps to work when I'm on WiFi.
Both liquid smooth and the pacman rom won't lock onto a gps signal.
Anyone have any insight I need gps for my new job.
Anyone?

A factory reset under settings fixed my GPS issue. Don't know how since I formatted my internal SD not to long ago. But hey it worked and that's all that matters.
Thank for a response though, I will check out the GPS stuff on s3rx, especially if I have any other problems.

1. Easiest and most reliable way. Try this first!
Enter the Samsung service mode by typing this code into the dial pad *#197328640#
Then go to Mainmenu>UMTS>Common>NV REBUILD>NV REBUILD> (Important: don't exit the menu yet!)
Wait 30+ sec
Long press power button and select "Restart / Reboot"
Now check your GPS from any software that may use GPS like "Maps" or "GPS Status"
:laugh::laugh:
They already solved the problem, but just so you know, you have to be running a stock based rom with a stock dialer to use the NV Rebuild method.
It won't work on AOSP/CM based roms like he was using.
