Update 08-16 This thread is deprecated, and the package list is now obsolete!
There is no need to wait for me to make you packages, now you can bring PDroid and the V6 to almost any ROM with any build date.
You can use my tool The Auto-Patcher to make your own flashable zips. We support Gingerbread through Jellybean and the tool can be used on Linux, Mac and Windows
Thanks for the support, the tools I made to support this thread are what became the Auto-Patcher, so a big thank you to all the people who tried the packages.
I hope you found Botbrew itself interesting. There is literally no limit to what that wonderful package manager can bring to Android. Inportb's project is still very relevant, and will be a major part of how we bring on-device modding to Android ( Stay tuned over at the Auto-Patcher thread).
Original Thread below
Packages for the Kindle Fire
Botbrew is a package manager for android developed by inportb. Some of the available packages are python, ruby, git and more libs than you can shake a stick at. I believe it to be the most powerful development tool in the market, bar none. Go to the thread if you would like to learn more (which I wholeheartedly recommend!)
I have been offering these packages to a range of devices and roms, and was asked to add the Kindle to the supported devices.

CM9 Reloaded-6/14-Possibly deprecated! Available by request!
The Mods
Pdroid is a permission management tool. It allows users to block apps from having permissions the user is uncomfortable with, including system apps. It also allows custom IMEI numbers, phone numbers and other security features. If you don't think an app should have access to your contacts or incoming phone calls, this is the app for you.
The V6 Supercharger is a memory management script. You will have to get the script itself from its dev, zeppelinrox's OP. This is simply a services.jar, modded to enable the V6 on ICS. Available alone or with PDroid.
Both of these mods are only available through smali editing or build patching. Botbrew allows users to install these packages over nightlies, without any extra flashing or risk.
Directions
Please be sure to only install the package that matches your ROM! So if you have AOKP installed, only install packages that have AOKP in the title! If you don't see your daily driver on the list, go ahead and request a specific ROM in the thread and I will see what I can do.
Install Botbrew (Free from Google Play)
Botbrew will bootstrap in some packages necessary for its operation.
Install repository-mateorod and press the refresh packages button
Choose one of the packages (JUST one!!) and install it.
Reboot
Launch and configure PDroid app
If you chose to install android-framework-pdroid-v6-(ROM-name), navigate to where ever you saved the V6 script and run it in terminal with
Code:
sh V6*
A V6 configuration guide that will work for your device is here.
Update 6-16 Users have had trouble running the V6 this way. Script Manager seems to be the consensus for now. I will try and update the manual directions when I have some time!
Whenever you update to a new ROM, just launch Botbrew and check the repairable packages screen. Reinstall the overwritten packages on the list, and reboot. That's it!
A long Q&A about Botbrew and package management for my Nook Packages is here. Much of it will apply to the Kindle packages as well, especially the beginning where I make the case for package management over flashable zips.
With ICS being in open development, eventually these packages will go out-of-date as the source repos evolve. If you ever install a package and reboot into bootloops or FCs, just boot into recovery and reflash your ROM (no wiping necessary!). Come report the issue here at the thread and I will update the packages ASAP!

It's always a challenge, really. Trying to put in the right balance of information so that people can be caught up to speed without reading a book, you know? I guess I didn't get it quite right.
The two packages available specifically for the kindle are the ones you listed above. Both packages port the privacy app PDroid to AOKP builds. The android-framework-pdroid-v6-aokp package also ports the V6 supercharger capabilities.
Without combining the two into one package, users would either have to choose between them, or edit their own source code personally.
Both of those programs are pretty popular mods that can only work on ICS by altering the source code of the ROM framework itself. Before pastime1971 and I got the port of PDroid done, there wasn't any way to have it on ICS. Through Botbrew's package management, I offer packages to bring this function to everyday users who don't build from source, or do their own smali editing. If you do either of those two things, you might not need these packages, although it is certainly easier to use them than recreate them for every nightly you flash.
If you are asking about the mods themselves, well in the first post there is a section called The Mods which briefly explains the programs enabled by the packages. There are plenty of links to more info.
And finally, if you are asking exactly what the package themselves do, well, they contain pre modded system apps I personally made for the Kindle Fire. Botbrew uses precision maintainer scripts to allow it to swap in and out system apps within the davlik VM without damaging the device's function. Botbrew also backs up your existing system apps, so returning to how it was when you flashed is one click away.
Did I answer your question? Let me know if there is something specific I am not being clear about.

I have added packages android-framework-pdroid-cm9reloaded and android-framework-pdroid-gedemis to the Botbrew repo.
I did not add the V6 functionality to these packages. That is something I added to the AOKP packages as an experiment. If it seems people would like it and would use it, then I can add them, but for now I am just sort of testing it out.
Note: If I add the V6 changes, I will continue to offer the PDroid packages without the V6-capability as well.

Sure...since you asked...
...it's already done!
There is now Pdroid and Pdroid+V6 options for AOKP, Gedemis and CM9 reloaded in the Botbrew repo!
See the first post for specific package names.
Please be sure to only install the package that has the name of your rom in the package title...
So...android-framework-pdroid-v6-gedemis will ONLY work for Gedemis CM9 roms. Got it? Thanks!
Update 5/15 The CM repo had a pretty big change tonight, necessitating an update for packages for several devices. I know the Kindle Builds aren't nightlies though, so I am going to wait and see if I get any user feedback. I know the packages currently work, so if any of the above ROMS update anytime soon, please post an alert in the thread and I will update the Kindle's packages in the Botbrew repo.
Thanks!

The packages for the Gedemis Rom are
android-framework-pdroid-gedemis
android-framework-pdroid-v6-gedemis
The difference between them being that the one with v6 in the title enables the supercharger as well.
Did you try this and have problems? Let me know what exactly you are having trouble with.
This looks very useful and I will likely be implementing it soon on my kf ics device. Thanks for your hard work and clear instructions.
Can't find mateorod-v6 after refresh.
Yeah, I tried this once, but it didn't work for some reason, so I thought I'd try again. I installed mateorod-repository but upon refresh of the packages I'm not seeing mateorod-v6. I know I saw it the first time I tried installing, but I don't see it now. I cleared the app cache then tried to find it again but it's still not there. What do?

Well, the mateorod packages are only being used for the Nook at the moment.
As a Kindle user (right?), you should be looking for android-framework-pdroid-v6-ROM, with ROM being either gedemis, cm9reloaded, or AOKP. Those are the three roms I am currently supporting for the Kindle.
Only install packages that match the ROM you have on the device!
I am sure that the packages in the repo were patched correctly, so they should stil work fine, as I know that gedemis and AOKP have not updated yet, and I don't think that CM9 reloaded has either.
How did you find out about the mateorod-v6 package? Did you see the Nook packages thread?
Anyway, the current working version of the Kindle packages all end in 8 right now. Look for them in the android section and let me know how it goes!
and as a note, the my repository is actually called repository-mateorod, which makes a difference when you are looking at an alphabetic list over 200 packages long!
Looks like I did get them confused. Oops.
Yep. It's the Nook page. I didn't notice since your link is to a single post and I just assumed it was the same thread.
Also yes, Kindle user on gedeROM 1.35. Installed in Botbrew I have android-framework-pdroid-v6-gedemis. Since I've already installed Pdroid and I'm assuming configuration is just user preference, from here just launch the script in the terminal, right? Last time everything appeared to work fine until I got to this step and ended up with it still saying "Supercharged: 50%" at the end. I'll try it now.

You will need to reboot somewhere in between installing the package and seeing 100% supercharged in the terminal.
Due to some changes in the Davlik cache maintenance (about which I really can't comment, it is very recent and I don't know what is going on yet) there is the possibility that you would need to reboot twice, but unlikely.
Install the package, reboot, run script and you should see 50% right away. After selecting an option (maybe 9 for the Fire? Y'all have a gig of RAM, right?) it should immediately jump to 100%.
If the V6 script says that the Launcher is Die-Hard, then the package did its job, and the rest of the supercharging is left to configuration.
If it says your Launcher is weak and on ICeS, then the services.jar has not been correctly installed.
Please let me know, I don't have a kindle so I cannot test these packages. I do know that they work, but a dumb mistake is always possible. I can fix it if you still have problems.
Thanks for trying it!

7 is the one I used for the Nook which also has 512. The link to the configuration guide in the first post is 100% applicable for the Kindle then.
7 is the most aggressive setting, if you feel like you would like increased multi-tasking with a slight cost in the top amount of allocated resources to individual processes, then you can try 6.
But 7 seems to work fine for most

These guys really know how to win. That why we roll like that!
This OP will be quick and dirty as I am going on vacation. Any Xoomers around Panama City Beach wanna by me a beer, holla.
First and foremost, the Xoom Community owes a debt of gratitude to Roach from the Transformer board. He pointed me toward the
Code:
find ./ -type f -exec sed -i 's/return-void-barrier/return-void/g' {} \;
Truly the most epic piece of script. Roach is WIN in it's purest form! Thanks man, you got the party started!
OK, the goods...
Built from Verizon 3G stock image! Everybody keeps their google winning
Completly deodexed, zip aligned stock system apps and framework.
Pure stock system apps and framework for you themers and minimalists. EXCEPT framework-res.apk. It was not affected by deodex, so you can grab stock from anywhere.
As far as we can tell, ANY XOOM DEVICE CAN FLASH THIS NO WORRIES. HOWEVER, IF YOU ARE COMING FROM A XOOM WITH ANYTHING BUT THE VERIZON 3G FIRMWARE, IT IS POSSIBLE YOU MAY HAVE TO DO A FULL WIPE
Example: If you have a US Wifi Only device, but you upgraded with my method to the Verizon 3g upgrade kit, YOU WOULD NOT HAVE TO WIPE. If you have a UK Wifi Only model with UK wifi only 3.1, it is possible you may have to wipe.
Rom Features
Packed with Tiamat 1.4.4 stock GPU. Flash OC'd gpu version is you wish.
rooted with SU and superuser, of course
Desktop UA string, CRT Screen Off Animation, Call setting with SIP, and SMS capable enabled.
Note: At the moment, with the 3g fix you will not have the SIP calling or SMS capabilities. This is because we have had to go back to a more stock framework-res.apk.
Supercircle 100 point battery mod! thanks Jewremy
Wifi Ad-Hoc mod enabled! thanks Kelvie
USB Mass Storage Enabled. Use Dinomight's Mass Storage Tool or activity manager script. I've got some truly epic things lined up for this now that I can unleash the brd|smaliBeast !
Init.d boot scripts enabled. Thanks Steady Hawkin!
Busybox built in
local.init.rc enabled in system/etc
openVPN binary and script from CyanogenMod. untested but with tun.ko included, should win. Also grabbed Wireless Toolkit binary with built in symlinks from CyanogenMod
added Quickboot, Estrongs File Explorer, and Flash Player hulufied brdizzled in data/apps. This was included so users coming from full wipe can be up and running. Feel free to remove from zip before flashing.
And i'm sure there's more but can't remember atm.
Instructions:
1) Back up your device's apps and data and nandroid to be safe
2) Put rom in root of MicroSD
3) Flash rom
4) Flash the 3g Fix if you're activated on Verizon.
5) Reboot
6) DETERMINE IF A WIPE IS NECESSARY
If your device bootloops, which is not likely, you will need to wipe
Once booted, attempt to install an app either from the Market or a side loaded apk. If the install fails and borks out, a wipe is necessary.
If it is determined you have to wipe, do a Factory Reset in Android Settings menu. At this time do not use Clockwork Recovery to wipe.
Once wiped, flash rom again and reboot.

How to deodex HC 3.1
This is not a tutorial on the art of deodex! This is for those who already know the game but were stuck. This is how Roach showed me the trick to get HC smali to rebuild.
this is just the trick. Implement this method into your scripts as necessary.
use baksmali 1.2.7 to decode framework and system app .odex
once decoded, apply this string replace command to the output smali code
Code:
find ./ -type f -exec sed -i 's/return-void-barrier/return-void/g' {} \;
then build smali into classes.dex as normal with smali 1.2.7
This is the baksmali / smali and apktool used. After deodex, apktool ( Sangreal's HoneyTool ;D ) was confirmed working on Gmail.apk as a test.
Download Deodex apktool pack
Also included are the smali / baksmali wrapper scripts and the deodex scripts I wrote to do this job. All you script guys, don't hate cause it's a little sloppy. But it did the trick. Deodex guys, notice the trick with $classpath. Sloppy but it works.
On framework, you will have to add junit-core.jar to classpath for framework.jar, services.jar, policy.jar, and ext.jar.
On apps, they all go exept for bluetooth.apk and networklocation.apk. You have to add that long string of classpath for those, but they will go.
Have fun.
People are still trying to wipe in recovery, so i'm going to post this here:
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD/SATAN//THE POPE/THE PRESIDENT/MOTHER NATURE/YOUR MOM/OR WHOEVER YOU BELIEVE IN DO NOT WIPE IN RECOVERY, FACTORY RESET INSIDE HONEYCOMB.

Noob question : Out of curiosity, what does this mean "you won't be able to install apps to the data partition "? While I haven't done a full wipe from CWM on my Xoom, I have done it regularly on my Incredible when installing new ROMs. Sounds like something is a little different with CWM on the Xoom?

Yea, its a bug they are working on. It was not something that was planned. The partitions on the xoom are different then other devices. Check out the update scripts, it will blow your mind. In testing though, if you wiped in cwm, then tried to install apps your xoom rebooted.

Your One-Stop-Shop for all things Hercules!
First, a few disclaimers! READ THESE FIRST!
~Anything you do to your phone is your own fault! Neither myself, nor the developers whose modifications are listed below are fiscally, morally, emotionally, or any other '-ly' responsible for what happens to you, your phone, or your mother!
~Some of these guides will be using a program called ODIN or Heimdall. These are incredibly powerful programs and can save you from what would/should be a brick. THEY CAN ALSO VERY EASILY BRICK YOUR PHONE BEYOND ANY RECOVERABLE STATE! Use at your own caution! I recommend reading extensively and asking questions BEFORE using them!
~There are probably more disclaimers I should add so....
OK! We've got all the un-fun stuff out of the way, so lets get started!
~~~~~~~~~~~~
A note for Devs: If I haven't noticed your ROM, kernel, theme, or mod and you'd like it added to this list feel free to PM me and I'll get it up as soon as I can. Also, if I HAVE listed your work and you would like me to modify or even remove the listing, just let me know!
ROMS!
To start with here, lets talk about a bit of lingo that will come up and new-comers will have questions about!
kabuk1 said:
Rooted: Rooting grants you read/write access to system files & allows you to delete system apps & have much more control over the phone. Think of it like the program files folder on your computer- you know how when you access it for the 1st time you get that "you should not modify these files" message? Rooting grants you access to the equivalents of those files in Android.
Deodexed: Every APK has an accompanying .odex file that is a part of each app. They're mainly used to save space & speed up boot time by sort of preloading stuff. Deodexing merges the .odex files back into the APKs & makes it easier to replace files, install themes, and whatnot.
Zip-aligned: Zipalign is an archive alignment tool that optimizes the way APKs are packed. Zipaligning allows the system to interact with apps a lot more efficiently, thus speeding up the system.
Su: The abbreviation for the superuser app that allows you to grant root permissions to apps that require it, and manage permissions for those apps.
Busybox: Provides additional commands & Linux utilities.
Now for the roms!
If a ROM is no longer used/updated or is no longer hosted on this website, it will be removed from this guide. It's nothing against anyone but this thread is on XDA for XDA.
Kernels!
A note about custom kernels: Due to physical differences in each device, some kernels will run great on some devices and will not run very well on others. Do NOT bash a developer because you couldn't get [insert kernel feature] to work on your device! Its a physical limitation of your device! Different kernels will run differently so try them all but always, always, ALWAYS backup before flashing anything!
Is anyone else having issues with a "partial" root? I can view files in the various folders, but lack the ability to delete. I have researched the threads and tried the fix permissions method, reflashing the recovery file, and installing SU to no avail.
The file system needs to be set to RW (read write) instead of RO (read only). Apps like root explorer make doing all that sooo much easier.
First off, a few questions: What are you trying to delete and what are you using to delete? If you're trying to delete applications from the /system folder and are getting a permission denied error its because you need to remount that folder as read/write not read-only.
I've never heard of/used that one...try using titanium backup to delete the apps? It doesn't require you to remount the file system.
Thank you for your time to create this info guide. I appreciate your knowledge, and will look forward to updates to this!
You should probably point out that this is just a ROM that you've baked from the MoDaCo kitchen as your starting point then chucked in a *VERY* few mods.
How do I know? As well as matching MD5s for most of the content, you have a /system/app/GoogleQuick* directory, an error I made in Ir6.
then go to Rom I paid almost 14 euros
however, if you bother the next rom I'm cooking from scratch and then the public with all the various mods that I find in forums
Seems a bit like stealing if you used a Rom that you only payed to have a copy for your phone. Yet your distributing it.
I have already explained that I made the changes that I look better from Roma and other users, and I assembled a rom and I gave him a name, do not charge money for this, I do not receive compensation, and do not do it for profit , I only do it for passion.
I remember that Android is an open-source project, In computing, open source software whose authors indicate (more precisely the rights holders) allow, even encourage them free study and the changes are made by other independent programmers .
so I have not done anything wrong, but I just picked up the mods of different authors and I gathered in a rom!
Wow stop fighting over who made it and see who can make it even better. Nice job!!!!
First of all let me thank all you member of this newborn community which is the Galaxy W's! Without you guys there would be no point in releasing this anyway.
First off credits:
Arco68 for helping me guiding me in this odyssey that is making Android builds and teaching me how the updater-script thing works and for allowing me to test some stuff which really helped me release this. Also for his custom Ancora kernel
knzo for helping me get started with Android and giving me the first tips that helped me want to learn more and do more. Also for his build.prop tweaks which are pretty handy
qzem for being one of the motivators behind the community and how got us the RZR Recovery as well as getting me Arco's kernel when my computer was being a slut.
dsixda for his awesome kitchen in which I cooked this ROM.
zeppelinrox for his funtastic V6 Supercharger script
Now what does this ROM have?
It is based on the Samsung Stock 2.3.6 ROM (latest EU ROM) but has been modded for better performance.
- Deodexed
- Zipaligned
- Rooted
- Busybox'd
- Has task killer tweaks
- /data/app functionality
- Custom Kernel by Arco68
- Roboto Font from Android 4.0 (ICS)
**NOT SO SMALL (xD) AND (POSSIBLY) MOST STABLE RELEASE YET**
The only things left from the TouchWiz UI are the Launcher and the Social Hub (because I really like it. The Hub that is. Launcher sucks balls.) apart from things tied to the framework like Phone, Contacts and Messaging.
In the instruction at this time (time of V3 release) I'll leave also instructions to integrate V6 Supercharger by zeppelinrox which should make the phone much more fun to use
A OC Version of the ROM is coming in the next few days aswell, as soon as I make sure it is stable.
Without further ado here's the link:
OC ROM: http://www.mediafire.com/?rbq3s215iwce39h
Instructions for Flashing:
(1) Reboot your phone into recovery;
(2) Make a backup of your current ROM;
(3) Wipe data/cache
(4) Format /system/
(5) Flash the ZIP
(6) Enjoy.
Instructions for V6 Supercharger
(1) Download this file and put in somewhere in your memory card
(2) Go to the Market and download "Script Manager"
(3) Open Script Manager and go to Config and choose "Browse as Root"
(4) Browse to where the script is and choose it
(5) Select only the ROOT symbol and then RUN
(6) First choose option 2 and when asked again choose option 6 (if you feel like taking a chance, choose option MEGA RAM 2) and V6 will install.
(7) After you are done with installing browse to /data/ in the memory of the phone, a file called 99SuperCharger.sh will be there
(8) Choose it, select run at boot
(9) Reboot and you should be done, enjoy.
For SuperCharger updates check HERE
AnTuTu Score w/o V6 Supercharger: 3750
AnTuTu Score w/ V6 Supercharger (option 6): 38xx
AnTuTu Score w/ OC and Supercharger (option 6): 40xx
(If you're updating from V1 or V2, I advise you to backup your apps and do a full wipe)
NOTE: IF YOU ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH VIDEO, JUST INSTALL A VIDEO PLAYER AND IT WILL WORK FINE. I RECOMMEND MX VIDEO PLAYER.
F.A.Q.
(1) Will this ROM work on the Exhibit 2 4G?
A: No idea. Ask the devs for the Exhibit 2. The hardware is quite similar but some things do differ.
(2) Is this CM7?
A: No, it is not. I'll get on that when I can.
(3) What are the advantages of this ROM over stock?
A: It is rooted and much faster. Try it out yourself.
(4) What are the surprises you were talking about?
A: Unfortunately they couldn't be released at the same time as this ROM, so you'll just have to wait.
(5) Will you update this further?
A: As of V3, I dunno. I pretty much done everything I had to do to make it work as powerfully as possible.
(6) Is this overclockable?
A: It is as of V3, download the OC Rom.
Version History:
V1: Initial Version
KP, a small question.
Now that the phone reads the external sd as the internal memory, I can finally see some use for the 16gb micro sd I was given for Xmas.
But I do want to keep all the data I already have on the one I was using up to now, so if I transfer the whole card on my PC and then on the other (bigger) card and finally put it in the phone, will I have all my data or will I be missing something because they are hidden Android system files?
I wanna sleep now it is 4am 'ere but because of this.....Thanks to All for BullDozing......
GLAZED ROM
Updated 6-7-2012 Scroll Down For Changelog. Scroll down for installing not included gapps (Like talk).
Hello Forum i would like to introduce a new rom called Simple CM9. As you can tell by the name this rom is special since it does not have all the useless items that most roms have. This rom is Sweet and To The Point. This is my first rom ever so give me a break if its bad. (Hope its not). I made this rom because i really enjoyed Takenover83 original cm7 bareboned rom, so i decided to make a ICS one, also because some people were requesting it in the original thread. Anyways enjoy your SPEEDY KINDLE.
Disclaimer - I am not responsible for any damage that is caused by flashing this rom or by modding this rom and flashing etc. I take no responsibility if your kindle breaks, bricks, sets on fire.
It should be noted that this was recently added to the default prop in the kfire android (Hashcode's)
https://github.com/KFire-Android/device-amazon-otter/commit/3c69448cf98749305051be89fd3ea3562e19d95b
Should be the default behavior for most soon.
OP; always nice to see a stripped version, grats on the first release.
the boot ani looks to be the one from the GNex smartphone
hey Hyperrunner,
Since nobody has reported any issues I assume it's a non-issue (at least with TWRP).
However, naming your ROM zip "Simple CM9.zip" with a space in the filename seems a little dangerous to me. You never know if all recoveries can handle spaces in filenames.
Huge fan of barebone type ROMs (esp. of the CM variety), so I loaded this one.
My System partition went from 244MB to 171MB. Bootup time for my KF went from 58 secs down to 35 secs.
Everything appears to be running smoothly ... not even a single hiccup to this point. Not much of a gamer, so I cannot comment on that aspect.
Was running the Vanilla CM9 ROM before this, so time and size comparisons are between that and this ROM. I also found the Vanilla CM9 to be very smooth in operation.
So far, it seems like the dev did an excellent job on this. Thanks, Hyperrunner.
Also there are no problems for CWM since I tested it.
Sblood86,
Does this even work?
I might be missing something but I remember trying this with persist.adb.notify and putting it in default.prop and didn't work. I needed to have this property in build.prop to get it to work (so i ultimately put it in system.prop).
So to test I just did a full wipe and installed the latest vanilla rom.
However, in order to see the kindle as an usb drive I needed to go to Settings -> Storage and enable mass storage.
It seems it needs to be in build.prop...
It works if persist.sys.usb.config is set in build.prop. But it does not work if it is just set in default.prop when building from source.
Seems like the code that gemedis posted earlier had adb enabled and kept the device from properly mounting. Got it all resolved though "persist.sys.usb.config=mass_storage" goes into the build prop.
