Regarding Abduction ICS 2.0X.
First off, I completely wiped everything before installing and I have re-installed at least 3 times.
The battery will not charge however. it will keep the battery at the current level.
When my screen times out or when I press the power button the screen goes black but with backlight. When I press the power button the soft keys light up but still is a blank black screen. I can unlock it by sliding and I hear it unlock but still blank/black with backlight.
One thing I thought was interesting was the Rom Control option to change the lock screen background, it freezes for a second then "unfortunately Rom Control has stopped working"
Any ideas?
PS can a MOD/ADMIN move this thread to a reply in the Abduction thread so it will be answered a lot easier.(Didnt have enough posts yet to reply)
Thanks
Have you tried a different USB charger/ cord combo? or is it specific just to the Rom? I'm following the Abduction line and this is the first I've heard of this bug... But i have experienced something similar when I use a faulty USB cord.
Also did you use the voltage script or change any voltage values?

Its not the charger.
What do you mean by using the voltage script?
under the add-ons hanger posted a voltage script that changes the values of some of the voltage settings for better battery life, but it produces instability with some of the Rom.... hence a separate add-on instead of baked in. I don't think you used it. Do you have a extended battery?

Yeah definitely didn't use it.
Nope have the original regular battery.
Yes, I wouldn't flash my voltage script as I had originally made it for cm7. I need to tweak it for Abduction.
Additionally, after your clean flash (which I assume is a data factory reset, format cache partition, wipe dalvik, and format the mounts- boot, system, cache, data, and data data) did you flash a different kernel then the one that comes with it?
If your clean wipe isn't exactly as i have described above, please do that and then flash a new download of the file. I have all the roms in the event you wish to try a different version.

Usually after pressing the power button the pink lock screen from tmobile would show up. But today after pressing the button to unlock the phone theres no lock screen, it just goes straight to the homescreeen. I tried putting a password and it still doesnt bring up the lock screen. Has this happened to anyone else?

This is still an issue after a restart?
that would have been normal on CM7 if you disabled lock screen
but on TW... it's rather unusual, specially when we still have no root
can you try installing super user meanwhile you are at it?

Also, theres another problem. When I hold the power button the phone shuts off automatically instead of the menu asking you want to turn of the phone.

This definitely sounds like a faulty phone, I would return it. These options are normally present in a CM7 build like allgamer said.
I don't think that it is a faulty phone. Watch the review by Mobile Syrup and the lock screen on their phone is gone to.
mine is doing the same no lock screen and phone shuts off as soon as I hold the power button
Edit: just tried setting a lock screen with pin and nothing still hmmm

If and when I get this phone you'll have about 9 lockscreens to choose from and a variety of power options (as well as a ton of other mods and hacks).
Just click on a few of the links in my sig.

how do you do a factory reset?
What will a factory reset erase? Will i have to root again?
This is my problem, I have been using my sim card for like 6 years now and today it just stopped working in my phone..
So I took it out and put it back in , still doesnt work, and right after that happend I realized that my lock screen had ceased functioning which i read is a known issue.
So i lost all my contacts, i will go have to get a new sim tomorrow, still don't know if i should trade the phone is for a new one.
this problem had something to do with the *#0*# command, and and testing the camera while in that menu. i just reflashed the deodexed rom and it was fine.
I had this problem too. I had to do a factory reset to fix the problem.
Here's another thread discussing a potential cause of the issue: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18702063&postcount=12
There are programs out there to use until then. Right now I'm using Quick Boot and it seems to do the trick just fine.

I'm rooted and used Titanium Backup, and a few other "safe" apps. Then suddenly my screen lock dissapeared. Battery pulls would not restore it and neither would any settings fiddling. When I held the power button down two seconds, it would shut the phone off instead of the usual popup that gives you the option to power down.
The only way I was able to restore it was reset the phone to factory settings. Then I restored via a CW backup (wow CW is awesome)
Anyway is this a common thing? I can't imagine this happening to an iPhone. What could cause this--do I have to erase my phone next time this happens? What a PITA!!!
Did you try the numeric combo which gets you into the phone diagnostics? If so we discovered that the megacam test hoses the lockscreen for some reason.
Using tapatalk on my Galaxy 2 to post this!
Has anyone else noticed that when charging from an outlet, the phone lockscreen becomes less responsive and harder to unlock, or is this just a problem with my phone?
I have had this issue and returned my phone that was ha in that issue for a new one? I would say it's potentially fixable via flashing a custom tom.

That happened to me after a couple ROM switches. What I did was go into CWM and actually go to mounts and storage and format data, system, cache, emms (sd card).
Then I did the standard wipe user settings, cache... installed new rom, wiped dalvik cache and fixed permissions.
After that it was completely reset in every possible way and things worked fine.

If you're not using the original charger or a non-grounded connection you run the chance of malfunction while plugged in. There was a similar issue on the Sensation.......
Mine acts the same and is also slow when plugged into charge. I assumed it was a Samsung underclock feature to make it charge quicker.
Hi.
Did a full wipe before installing Sandvold beta 0.14 (was running 0.10.1 before).
Sometimes I can't wake it using the power button. The phone i running, as I can see a notification flashing the LED.
It has happened 3 times since Friday, 2 times it happened when it has just been in my pocket, 1 time where it was in the charger, although fully charged to 100%. After removing it from the charger, the LED was green and didn't turn off as it normally does.
I have to remove the battery and reboot it, to "fix" this. Any ideas?

You have encountered BSODs. It happened to some people using Sandvold ICS. Are you using the stock drewis kernel? If so change the governor to anything other then On Demand. If that does not work and you have overclocked your phone, lower the clock frequency by a notch.
Yes, it's "stock", besides the gps-patch-thingy. I'll try to use the SMARTASSV2 governor instead.

That just the hardware soft reset key configuration which reboots the phone, it doesn't fix the problem.

This is a new phone and it's happened 1/2 a dozen times or more. With good battery life remaining, I'll check the phone to find it powered off (black screen). The power button will not turn it on. I need to remove the battery for a few seconds, reinstall the battery, then it boots fine. Been on ICS FI27 since I got the phone. I'm now rooted with the stock ROM, but this issue was happening prior to the root too. Any suggestions? I'm considering calling Samsung, perhaps I got a buggy phone? Thanks.
Re: Random power off - requires soft reset
Check the battery, take the battery out and spin it, if it spins you may need a new battery.
Also the power button is known to be non functional sometimes due to a number of reasons including software and hardware.
If you just got it try and exchange it. Good lock

Thanks for the tips. I really don't think it's the battery. I have another EP4GT that I use for work and I've swapped batteries. Had the same problem with either battery and never had the problem on the work phone at all. It happened again today. Really frustrating since it could happen in a emergency. I'll prolly holler at Samsung later this week if I get the time.
Found a thread on the Sprint Community Forums that discusses several variations of the reset issue quite extensively. I have a feeling it could be caused by my MicroSD card. I've formatted my MicroSD and will report back with my findings. Sorry I can't post links yet, but you can Google "samsung epic 4g randomly powers off"

Just a semantic clarification here. You are describing a hard-reset, not a soft-reset. A soft reset uses the power button (which uses the OS, i.e. "software") to reset, whereas a hard reset means forcing the phone to power off (by hardware manipulation - i.e. pulling the battery).
Hi Matt, thanks for the clarification. If I could go back and edit my title I would.
Since I've formatted the MicroSD I haven't had any more power off issues. I'll report back if I do. Thanks.

Thanks garwynn for the instructions - I did just that!
On another note, I had another lock up today, but this time different or at least something I have not noticed before. I got a message notification tone from the eBay app. I went to check it and the screen would not come on when pressing the power button, however the red LED was still blinking. I've never had the red LED in the past, just a black screen with no response. I had to remove the battery and reboot. Maybe just a fluke with the app this time? I read through some reviews of the eBay app and didn't really find anyone mention issues with the notifications. Oh well, I'll keep an eye on it and report anything else. Thanks.

I was able to pull logs using the terminal app on my AOSP build. The steps are just:
Code:
su
logcat
su for root permissions, and logcat to get the log.
You might have to find a terminal emulator to be able to do that though. I don't recall the TW ROMs having one installed by default.

What preceded the 'black screen?'
I assume you're Rooted.
Can you get into Recovery?
To get into Recovery:
Power down device.
Don't turn on
Press Power & Vol up buttons at same time
Release when device vibrates and you see Blue Recovery booting words in left upper corner.
Wipe cache, dalvik cache and boot.
If that doesn't work,
Flash Nandroid backup
If you don't have a Nandroid backup, Factory Reset, wipe cache & dakvik cache
If that doesn't work,
Go to ODIN/Download mode, and install Samsung Stock Firmware via ODIN.

What preceded the black screen?
What were the events leading to the black screen?
Installing something, trying something new, jumping into a pool forgetting the deviceuisuin youropocket, stuff like that.. The info can help determine what is going on.
You're not rooted is ok.
The fact that some stuff is working is good.
After you answer the above, you can:
Power down phone.
Make sure the battery has at least 50% charge.
If you can't see the stats and think you may be low on juice, pluguin the device for an hour andlet charge.
After you are charged, you're going to go into the he stock recovery
By doing the following:
Power down device
Press Power & Vol up buttons at same time.
Release buttons when you see the blue words in upper left corner of screen and feel the Vibrate.
Using the volume buttons, scroll up or down to Factory Reset
Press Power button to confirm
Let the screen go through its stuff
Then you will choose reboot and enter it with the Power button.
It'll take 15-20 minutes sometimes, so just wait and see if you're device boots.
If the above fails to boot your device successfully, you'll have to ODIN Samsung Stock Firmware via your pc.

Do you have another battery you can try?
Or a friend whose battery you can try?

But you can hear and adjust the volume, it's just the screen is black.
That would lead me to believe the battery is good.
Hopefully there is no internal damage form a bad car charger, etc.
Just thinking out loud.

I'm not 100% ccertain, but it appears your screen is shot. May not be the screen itself, but the circuitry that lights the screen.
How that happened I'm not 100% certain, but it would appear that it has something to do with car charging the device.
I went through as much troubleshooting as I know, but without the display, I don't know how to get into Recovery or ODIN, which most likely is a moot point because the issue is most likely not software related, but hardware related.
Hopefully I'm wrong
Just a heads up...when you use a car charger to charge your phone its highly recommended to unplug it as soon as its charged. I believe thats what caused your problem.

As I mentioned, I'm not sure it's the digitizer assembly that is bad or the circuitry that operates the digitizer screen assembly or both.
I'd say a digitizer/screen assembly replacement with Samsung OEM parts, including labor may be approx. $175 give or take a few bucks. Would have to check.
The reputable installer would have to specify that you won't be charged if the replacement doesn't work out. Which is obvious anyway.
I'd go to a place in person, and wait for it to be done, if that's possible in your area.
I'd also just say that my screen just stopped working. Let him determine what's up, before be he does anything.
On the other hand, maybe let the tech knows what you think the cause of the issue is, although no one is 100%. Yeah, just tell him what happened.
You plugged the phone into a car charger overnight, and in the am, the screen didn't illuminate.
Maybe it's not the screen and something more simple, maybe.
The tech would also be able to troubleshoot the device more effectively.
