Would this cable work for the kindle fire? - Kindle Fire Accessories

http://www.cellphoneshop.net/mhlhdmi.html

It is highly doubtful that would work for what I assume you want it to do. Namely, outputting the screen to an HDMI display.

I also highly doubt it

Although, that's not to say it will never work

If it works, let me know. That would be awesome.

I bought this cable from the same store.
I purchased it when I got my Galaxy Nexus, it works great with that unit.
I was hoping it would work with Kindle Fire as well. Unfortunately I have not had any sucess it getting it to work with the Kindle Fire. I have tried with the following ROMs:
Stock ROM (Both unrooted & rooted)
ICS ROM (gede v1.35, v1.45)
I will continue to try out this cable with the Kindle Fire as I update its ROM and will let you guys know it I ever get it working.

Have you tried it with Hashcode's latest CM9 build? That's the only one that supports USB OTG properly. I know its not a OTG cable, but it could act like one..

I am currently running gedeROM v1.45 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1619550).
I thought this was running the latest CM9 build, please let me know if I am mistaken.

Update
Just flashed to gedeROM v1.55.
Still no success with this cable.

What can I do with a rooted Kindle Fire?

Hey everyone, can someone tell me what can I do with a rooted kindle fire? I know you can install cynanogen but what does that do?
I'm planning on getting one for christmas and want to know a few things before buying it.
I've never rooted anytihng before but I've modded xbox, wii, ds, psp, iphones, etc.
Sorry if this is the wrong forum section to ask this.

Thanks you need to root to get the Android Market
Another q, can the kindle fire connect to Ad Hoc networks?
The Fire doesn't support ad-hoc networks natively, but there's a workaround here.
thanks.........
I'm considering rooting my Kindle Fire, but am still unsure. Doesn't rooting it void your warranty? I'd hate to have something happen to it and then be stuck with an unusable KF that I can't even return. What are your guys' thoughts on it?
Patience
Basically, a rooted kindle will allow side-loading of apps, outside of Amazon's built in app store. Their app store will not list apps like Netflix because Amazon is hoping most users will utilize their streaming service and provide an additional income stream (that's why the kindle is so inexpensive).
Everyone is waiting for a fully functional CyanogenMod7 or Ice Cream Sandwich custom ROM to be released. Until that happens, I have rooted my kindle, copied the apk files of select apps from my Android phone and side-loaded them to my kindle.
I have found the kindle the runs almost everything I want and allows me to be patient for the upcoming ROM releases.
Same thing as other rooted Android Devices.
Run custom ROMs and such.

Taking a quick look at the warranty on Amazon.com, I don't see anything about your warranty being void if you you root or modify your Kindle. That said, the warranty won't be valid if you break your Kindle by rooting in.
If you need to send it in for repairs, you can always flash a stock rom. If it's too broken to be flashed, it's probably too broken for Amazon to tell that you rooted it:

rooted fire, wht esle?
Two weeks ago I rooted my kindle fire. I was about to throw it away because I hated the interface etc.
Stumbled on to the xda site than god.
Am now running jellybean 4.1.1. Amazing and now I can't put this thing down.
What else will this device do? What other ROMs are available? How do you stay on top of upgrades?
At some point you have to stop and it hard to do

What? Stop? Nope. Never. A ROM a week and should my wife turn her back on her Fire for even a fraction of a second, it gets it, too!

that's not necessarily true... its more like some phones require that the mhl to be powered... t mobile's galaxy ii does not require the mhl to be powered and several other phones don't require the mhl to be powered...

Camera and radio

I'm a bit of a kindle rookie so please bear with me...
I have installed jb cm10 along with gapps. It is running very nicely but I have no camera or radio. I know on earlier versions these weren't working, or so I've read, but am I doing something wrong...what am I missing!??
Forgot to say, it is the sgt7 version.
Sent from my LT15i
There is no camera on the first generation fire. To hear the radio, get an app for that station.
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire using xda app-developers app
I don't know where you thought that Amazon might hide a camera, unless you thought the wifi antenna see-through hole was one, but there is no camera; and as far as radio goes, download the iHeart Radio app (or any other, but that's the only free and complete one I know of) and you've got your radio.
That`s actually a light sensor which as far as I know has never worked.
What a mistake to make. I was mistaking the sensor for a front mounted camera.. ..idiot!
As I said, clearly don't know much about the spec. Ah well....
On another note, was there ever any success on creating a kernal that allowed Bluetooth?

The KF also has no internal Bluetooth. You need an external dongle to have Bluetooth. If you have any ROM that has Hashcode's 3.x kernel, they should support external devices. But you would also need an cable also for that.

I didn't know that. Does it work on an unrooted KF?
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire using Tapatalk 2
I don't believe the light sensor has ever worked it may have been added to the device with intention that purely failed or at some point the mission to use it was aborted shortly after construction. Things can be found in many devices that simply get shelved at one point or another.
Also note that in landscape mode your hand would likely cover the location of this sensor making it a little useless.

I have a Kindle fire 2 NON hd version

I have a Kindle fire 2 NON hd version
the unit has a BAD esn so I figured the easiest way to fix it would be to root with android.
But everything I have seen shows a HD version. Can this tablet be rooted?
and if so what port do i use.
can someone direct me to the right area please

Step away from the Kindle.
If you can't see the posts above yours that explain how to do it, I think you should leave alone. Read lots or you will brick your device.

lets start with this my question wasn't properly worded.
1 is there a way to bypass the bad esn? Amazon said I have a worthless unit
2 I have cyanogenmod in two units but did not require a fast boot cable.just direct usb connection. But most things i have
read here say you should use one. does it make a big difference?
lastly is there a mod that is simulator to cyanogen mod for the fire2 7" non hd?

1. I'm not sure but I don't think so.
2. Cyanogenmod is absolutely possible to get on the kindle fire 2, if you check the version number you should have 10.2.X. The reason he told you to step away from the kindle is there are multiple posts in this section about how to root the Kindle fire 2 non-HD version, which you didn't seem to see so he assumed ignorance. No, you don't necessarily need a fastboot cable, but it's nice to have if you end up bricking your kindle. I've rooted mine through the Qemu and Bin4ry's root method which you will find listed somewhere here. Then you have to install TWRP bootloader, I'd recommend pulling a backup off the system through adb, then wipe and flash Cyanogenmod and GApps (Again, you say you've done this on other devices, but there's a thread here related to the kindle fire 2 specifically so follow that one).
*Bump*
Can anyone answer this yet? Does flashing CM override bad ESN?
If you mean can you use cm on a kindle that is blacklisted then yes, though I'm not condoning stolen kindles by saying this.

The HTC One is likely running an OEM version of Andriod called Sense, of which (iirc) the source hasn't been released, so you won't find it for the KF. However, there are plenty of other ROMs available that may suit your needs. Before we get into that, though, I must strongly suggest you get a factory cable before attempting anything, as it will help you in case things don't go according to plan (they rarely do). After that, there is a thread at the top of this forum that serves as a FAQ, and can be used as a guideline for pointing you in the right direction regarding what steps must be taken to get you where you want to be.
Good luck
Ok thanks for the reply, but whats a factory cable? NOOb question alert
Sent from my Kindle Fire using Tapatalk 2
Its also known as a fastboot cable, they are very useful when your kindle gets a red screen of death, or you get stuck in a boot loop without any means of recovery because you can plug the cable in and it immediately boots up and goes into fastboot so you can reflash the system image from there and such.
