ICS Rom with people.apk - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

I was wondering if any of the ICS roms come with the people apk. Thanks~

They don't. Most of our developers are trying to eliminate bloatware and let us install apps we prefer, so if you wanted that you would need to get it from another source.
Good luck!

ROM Development Question regarding using another ROM as a base

Alright. I have been fiddling with the Android Kitchen and coding stuff into a custom ROM.
My question is this:
Since I am using another ROM as a base (not stock), would it be frowned upon if I were to make the ROM I cook up public, giving credit where credit is due of course?
Example, Eugene released a custom ROM, using the Juggernaut ROM as a base.
I would be doing the same thing, except not using the Juggernaut ROM as a base, however, I would be implementing other build.prop, init.d mods and tweaks found and developed by other users as well and the original developer of the ROM I am using as a base.
As long is credit is given where is it is due, is this acceptable, or would this be frowned upon? Would I get flamed for just copying and pasting other people's work into a ROM? The finished ROM would be very different from the original creator's ROM, different sounds, different theme, different apps included, different tweaks, status bar mods, etc etc etc.
Thanks for the input! I just don't want to step on any toes!
I'd say that this really depends on who wrote the rom you're using for a base. I'd ask them if it's ok for you to use their current rom as a base before I started posting anything, it's really the proper way to do it. If they say it's fine, and you give proper credit, I don't see a problem.
True enough. Perhaps it would just save a lot of trouble if I started with a stock base.
True. But it never hurts to ask, you may get a developer who lets you use his as a base. You never know until you ask
That's true.
I think I will be using a stock as base. Though. If I want to learn, that's the best way to do it!

[q] ics barebones rom?

I used to have an evo 4g . it was my only successfull root and i used this ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1412005
it was GREAT!
does anyone have something similar for my epic 4g touch? all i want is a mostly stock barebones rom minus bloatware. i am certainly no expert on roms and want one i can rely on just to work! i dont use wireless hotspot but i need everything else to work.
help!
Thanx
For TouchWiz there is Calkulins E4GT 2 which comes with a barebones converter that you can flash.
Here is the link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1527041
That includes the ROM and the barebones converter.
Otherwise there are the usual AOSP ROMs, AOKP, CM9, Miui.
you can make any rom barebone if you like. Like mentioned above there is a converter zip now and also you simply can remove files in the zip prior to flashing. For AOSP there is a slim and trim rom in development. I think you should just take your time and go through development and see whats out there.
Ive always had better luck flashing something close to stock and pulling stuff out myself. Chances are that you use your phone different than the rom dev and you might want or need something they don't. There are several variations of fe22 you can try

apoligize for whats probably a dumb question but can i remove everything, like google wallet and crap like that?
Cauklin's e4gt 2 v 1.6 works really well and after using rom convertor is stripped down to a bare rom very stable at least that has been my experience with it.

Need help with in Deodexed stock rom

Hey guys im trying to deodexed my stock rom and maybe make roms but im stock on deodexed. Im getting all kinds of errors with ultimaxe. Is that how you do it? Im looking for a guide on doing this for samsung devices like this one and on ics but cant seem to have luck. All i see is ultimaxe but like i said im having problems. Or is it possible that you can make me a stock rom with deodexed?
So nobody knows!!!!!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18625670
You want something like this?
Yeah that it thank you buddy. Although im trying to put my knowlage more further by learning how to develop roms but the first step is deodexed and I was stuck. This ^^ would make a good start
So nobody is interesting on having a stock deodexed rom? I've been trying to do mine and I'm having problems with XUltimate although the test pass so I have everything I need but It get error on option 3!
I can't speak for everyone but I'm past stock anything and if you look hard enough its probably been done a few times. I'm sure if you go hang out on the IRC channels you will find lots of ppl doing it or willing to help. I can say this, after some things that have happened here over the past few weeks you are going to have a hard time getting ppl to flash your first ROM build. I would find someone to team up with, a known dev, and work with them. After a pro can vouch for you life will get a lot easier for you. I could be wrong and won't go in to details about the past issues. But I would go that route.
I am no dev and have no interest in building a ROM but if I did that's what I would do.
Good luck, hope you do very well and maybe one day I will be flashing your builds.
Thank you for your answer. Yeah I am very aware of JalStudio BS. It just that I would like a good stock rom with tweaks and themed. Heck not even Gnow works because its not deodexed. I've been an android user since the vibrant and have a lot of knowledge on android. I till now learning all of this stuff about making roms and stuff. It seems easy but when you get an error and you know you have everything that you need you just lost like me. XUltimate goes good but when its time to deodexed it gives me an error on every .odex file. Something about bootclass whatever. I gonna do what you said contact a few devs and use IRC. P. S I cant wait till xda-university comes out. That should give a lot of information. It might be a long time my friend when you see roms ported by me. Because first I want to use it as a personal use and then maybe release it.

Good ROM Base?

I can make update.zips through android kitchen. I was really wanting to make a CM10 unofficial port but can't because of sources.
I did mess around with stock a little bit but i really didn't like it because of all the bloatware and stock features.
MIUI doesn't work for me either.
If you guys could help me find a good Base to work with that would be awesome. And also i don't want anyone to think i am stealing their work or anything so I need permission to use it as a base.
I do plan on uploading it in the future.

[Q] Questions regarding using custom ROM's

Hi all,
I'm fairly new to all of this. Have been on XDA before, but that was a while ago.
I don't like my standard Desire HD with 2.3.5 Android anymore. And there is no update for this.
So I thought I'd look here for a custom ROM which could be nice.
However, I've been told that a custom ROM has it's downsides. But before I just blindly believe those claims, I'd like to ask you guys to tell me what the truth is.
1. I've been told that there is no custom ROM which gives you ALL and every function. You always either loose the use of the camera, or the speaker doesn't work.
2. I've also been told that you cannot go on Google Play store when using a custom ROM.
3. They said that you cannot go back to the original HTC Android after rooting and using a custom ROM.
4. In most cases, a custom ROM will improve performance (compared to the stock HTC ROM).
5. And finally: they claim that when using a custom ROM, certain apps or games won't work.
I've got no clue about these things really, but I'm am kinda interested in the whole concept of rooting. I'm good with computers and learn fast, so I do think I can learn how to do this (eventually ).
Thanks.
1. False. At the very least, stock rooted ROMs like Android Revolution HD has everything working. For other ROMs, it depends.
2. False. Flash gapps if using an AOSP-based ROM and Play Store will show up. It comes with Sense ROMs.
3. To some extent, true. If you unlock the bootloader, HTC will know, even if you relock. And if there is no RUU for your original ROM you can't revert to your exact original ROM.
4. True. Depends on ROM optimizations.
5. False. See #1.
Great, thanks for the reply.
Seems for me that if I wanna use a custom ROM, I just need to find a custom ROM that will allow me to use Google Play Store.
Just wondering: what does RUU mean?

Any custom ROM will let you use the Play Store. If one doesn't include it preinstalled, it means that it's AOSP based and you just need to flash gapps. The OP of most ROM threads will have a link to the recommended version. A RUU is a region-specific executable distributed by HTC that installs and/or updates the stock ROM, bootloader, radio, and recovery.
Well, then it seems like I just have to learn what AOSP and Flash Gapps means .
Google is my friend.

GAPPS is Google APPS. Some roms come with all the google apps bundled some dont. The ones that dont you will need to flash the Gapps.zip file straight after flashing the rom.zip file.
Start with Android Revolution v6. Its all the same as you have got now, everything works. You can try v7 which is just a sense upgrade to sense 3.5. Both have gapps included.
If you want to try something new then give jellytime r10 or unofficial CM10.1. Both need gapps downloading seperatly and is linked to in the 1st post of each thread.
Many more roms available, happy flashing
Edit: neither of the last 2 are sense roms.
Thanks for the explanation and the tips!
Am I allowed to either open a new topic where I can ask which ROM is best suited for me, OR should/can I do that in this topic?
I've been browsing the topics in the development sub-forum, and most off them look great and sound great. Just not really sure if I should look for certain things.

Topics like that aren't allowed by forum rules. The usual advice is to try them for yourself.
