[Q] Downgrading impossible - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been trying for hours now but I can't get it to work.
I have a Xperia Arc on 4.0.2.a.0.62 and I want to downgrade it to 4.0.2.a.0.42.
I have the ftf file, flashtool is installed. Here is goes wrong.
I click on Flash, select the correct ftf and then press OK. A few lines come up but then it stops at "for 2011 devices line, make sure you are not connected in MTP mode. I checked, I am connected in Mass storage mode...
What am i doing wrong? This is too hard for me, everybody says it's easy and only takes a few minutes..
I need to downgrade, because I want to root my phone.

You need to connect the unit to the computer in flash mode.
Turn off device, while holding down the BACK button, connect device to computer.

Yes I know, I do that, but doesn't work.
When I click flash, and then select the ftf file, there is nothing in the firmware content box. All the other boxes are empty to..

Yes, when i go to the options, the dot next to Mass Storage is selected.
Is it normal that the boxes in flashtool are empty?
I select LT15i_4.0.2.A.0.42_Generic Global from the firmwares folder, but nothing is shown on the right side, the firmware content box.
They are all empty...

This is the beginning lol
just installed Flashtool v7.0.1.0 or so, downloaded ftf file and copied it to the firmwares folder.
I give up, guess I have the only un downgradable phone in the world...

Nobody can help me with this?
EDIT: I have installed an older version of Flashtool, and now the Firmware content box isn't empty anymore.
I then click on OK, but it doesn't start...
It says, "For 2011 devices line, be sure you are not in MTP mode.
I am sure I'm in mass storage mode..
What does your phone have to look like when you connect it in Flash mode? I just get a screen with the battery charging picture on it.

If your screen shows a charging battery then your phone is off. To use flashtool your phone should be on.
sinkster©

is android debugging on? it should work..try with other version of flashtool..

[Q] Possible Bricked R800i

I very recently asked for help installing CM7 onto my phone. While following a fairly simple tutorial linked to me by the author something hasn't worked and I've been left with a brick. I managed to fastboot the boot.img then when rebooting I was asked to "spam" the volume button repeatedly until it entered another mode. It did not do this. Instead it simply left me with a blank screen. No Sony Ericsson logo and no booting into another mode as the tutorial described. Someone in the thread had the same issue and basically the author just washed his hands of it and asked that guy to make a thread. I did look at the troubled users profile for said thread but for some reason this forum is saying the search is down, so hopefully someone can help me at least get my phone working. I'm done with the rooting/romming shenanigans. If there is a way to just get my phone up and running then hopefully someone can tell me. Until then it's just a brick.
Edit - Tried updating via SEUS but it says the phone has modified software and cant be updated. :-(
Would flashtool work?? I have no idea how to use it tho but am downloading it. Looking for things on here is hard work. lol.
Is your boot loader unlocked? You didn't mention if it was or not. If its not then that's why your bricked.

Its unlocked. The tutorial before the one I mentioned above was about finding out if it was or not and it had a YES next to it in the menu. Along with my IMEI number etc, so I was told I was OK to go ahead with the other tutorial.
Flashtool Guide
Oh rght this should help you, okay. The answer to your question is yes flashtool should work, it sounds like you've got a botched install that's all if you doo this you should be fine
THIS WILL ERASE ALL DATA ON YOUR PHONE BUT NOT YOUR SD CARD
Here's a quick rundown of what you need to do, Download flashtool, download an ftf file, flash the ftf file to your phone through flashtool and then as if by magic your phone should work. So let's begin
Step 1) Turn your phone off - Then leave it to the side.
Step 2) Download and install Flashtool Get flashtool from here
After it has downloaded install it but make sure you have remembered the directory where you've installed it.
Step 3) Download an ftf file. This is a package that contains the stock software that came with your phone and flashing this will therefore return your phone to factory settings or stock.
Here is a thread with a list of ftf files, download the one that corresponds with your phone.
After you've downloaded it move it the folder named firmwares in your flashtool directory. For example mine is C:\Flashtool\firmwares
Step 4) Install the drivers. Navigate to the drivers folder in your flashtool directory, for example mine is C:\Flashtool\drivers From there open the file named Flashtool-drivers.exe and install ALL of the drivers.
Step 5) Flashing the FTF. Once you have installed all of the drivers open flashtool. From there click on the flash icon in the top left corner of the screen. Select Flashmode then click OK.
Select the FTF file you downloaded and moved to the firmwares folder and then click OK.
You will then see flashtool say it is preparing files for flashing follwed by a popup. The popup will promt you to power off your phone, hold the back button, then plug the USB into your Computer.
After you have done this flashtool will begin flashing your phone. Do not remove the USB until it is finished.
Once it has finished (The log will tell you when it has) remove the USB and power on your phone.
The initial boot may take some time as needs to rebuild it's cache. Don't panic this is normal. After it has your phone shoudl now have booted and be on the stock software that came with it
Hope I helped, if you need anymore help PM me
Thanks for the help but I was just too over that phone so I sent it away for cash (even fuc*ed it was worth £32) and I've got a brand new Xperia Arc S. Thanks.

Please don't create a new thread.. Search first and then read.. Read and read more..
The link provided for Xperia-S_Relock_bootloader.ftf is dead. If someone has the file and would be so kind as to mirror it it would be awesome. I would have posted on the original thread, but it's in the developer section and I am not allowed to post there. I have tried google search to find an alternative and I have come across one file with the same name, I flashed it with Flashtool and now my Xperia S won't boot, I can get into flashmode and fastboot but that's it.

Thank you very much. This worked. I didn't know flashing a stock .ftf firmware would re-lock my bootloader. It did I flashed LT26i_6.1.A.2.50_1257-5499_WORLD and after that was able to upgrade through PC-companion without any problems. Thank you for the help.

There should be a button with a lighting symbol. Click on it and select flash mode. Select FTF and the program will do it from there onwards. Just follow the instructions.

Problem is I really want to avoid kingroot. I installed it once and then had to re-flash system again because it couldn't be uninstalled. And I don't trust Chinese proprietary software.

If you're wanting to flash Dstriker, then you're going to reflash system anyway, just make sure to check box for 'system' when wiping in recovery...
If you really want to downgrade and root, try a newer version of Flashtool. New versions create the whole ftf just by downloading. All you have to do is wait until it's done, and click flash.

I'm not a Flashtool expert, but I've flashed roms at least a dozen times, and I don't even see that screen anymore. I remember in older versions you used to have to download and then create an ftf, bit about a year ago there was an update where FT and Xperifirm were able to work together, and the flashable ftf was created automatically. Ever since then, I just click on the firmware I want in Xperifirm, and it downloads, and prepares the file, and I just click 'flash' and connect the phone and it's done.

Maybe its in the latest update. The problem is I get an error when trying to launch x10flasher.jar. I have no idea what could have caused this problem. I got freshly installed java so everything should be fine.
http://imgur.com/a/0oOwz
1. Download Flashtool 0.9.23.1 and install it
2. Download x10flasher.jar from the same page
3. Open folder where you just installed Flashtool, and simply paste x10flasher.jar
4. Move and replace - YES
that's how you upgrade to 0.9.23.2
As for making ftf files:
1. when you have Flashtool, open XperiFirm from there, as picture attached
2. when firmware of your choosing finished downloading close XperiFirm windows (red markers in attached pic) but dont close little window in Flashtool (green "circle" in attached pic)
3. after few seconds Flashtool starts creating FTF version of the firmware you downloaded via XperiFirm
4. when progress bar finishes you have your firmware avaible to flash via "lighting icon" in flashtool
