I recently flashed the new Darkside Evolution 2 ROM and I am liking it. The flash seems to have worked just fine (I did follow the instructions to a T), but my problem is I now have a permanent voicemail notification, however when I go to my voicemail it says there are no messages. Anyone know how I can get rid of this?
Sorry, I would have posted this in the development thread that I used to get the files and flashing instructions, but I am not a the 10 post minimum yet.
Nevermind, I got a real voicemail and deleted it, so now the notification is gone. Sorry to anyone who wasted time reading this.
Leave yourself a voice mail message. Then call your voice mail and delete the message. This should delete your message and take away the icon in your status bar. That usually works. Good luck bro...

visual voicemail not working?
It should work, assuming you installed all the nice Sprint apps.
I still get the text notification?
There is that clear command that gets rid of notifications, but no real fix in CM6. I suggest you stick to a ROM based on the latest OTA.
Problem solved
Some suggested to use Visual Voicemail Compose screen and send it to the following address: [email protected]
this worked
Thanks

Did you get three text messages after you sent that out. I went in there and put that as a contact to send to and hit record and stop and sent it. I then received three text messages im immediately after that. Anyone else?

Never got any text messages after that. Just all of my voicemails popping up about 1 minute after I sent it.
OK I know this has been brought up a few times in the CM threads. I get this ghost VM notification on CM6 and on all the nightlys. I also am getting this ghost VM notification on the MIUI rom. I do NOT get this notification on ANY sense ROMs I have tried.
I read this Forum everyday as much as I can. I have tried search. Every thing that comes up close to what I have going on doesn't seem to get fully answered as to why this is coming up on some phones and not others.
I flashed CM6 and a few nightlys on my Wifes phone and She has NEVER received the *86 VM notification.
I am always updated to the most current PRL, PRI and NV. Nothing I have tried will clear this message. On the CM6 ROM I can hit the clear button under the notification bar and that clears it for a little while but then the damn thing comes back.
Can anyone explain this and offer up a FIX. I know I'm not the only one.
Any one have any help on this?

I guess I'm in the club also. Same problem when I was on Vaelpak. Flashed back to stock, rooted, for a while. Now on Fresh.

Thank you Brutus for the input.
I know all about that part of the set-up. This DOES NOT get rid of the Ghost notification. I still will get a notification that I have a voice mail (and YES I have checked to make sure my VM's are cleared out).
Just FYI I use google voice when I am on CM6 or nightlys. Google Voice works great but still will not clear the VM notification.

Dont skip my post I am going to say two diffrent things . First normaly you get the notification because you received a voicemail. The stock rom has a code writen in to block that text so that you dont see the notification when you receive a voicemail.
Now Jetdr I will try to answer your question here. I think your voicemail hasnt been provisioned. Click on your VVM app and hit menu, when you hit menu you should have 3 options, compose, search and settings. If you have a 4th option that says unsent or undelivered click it. When VVM sets up, it automaticly sends a voicemail to the server to setup your VVM. If that message doesnt get sent then it probably never will. You will have to uninstall the VVM.Apk and reinstall the app. One time when I was setting up CM6 I had to install the voicemail apk several times before I got it to provision correctly. If it doesn provision a minute or two after you install it then its not going to. Not sure if this is whats causing your ghost voicemail text but I am thinking this is it. The easiest way to tell is to just click the vvm app and see if it shows four options or three. It should only show three.
If you are using google voice you dont still have the sprint VVM installed do you? If you dont have the sprint VVM installed then I am not sure whats causing your issue considering my directions to fix your issue is in regardes to the sprint vvm app.
Hope that helps.
I've tried all that and more.... nothing fixes it. I've concidered calling sprint but don't want to ruin my insurance..

Twilk... thanks so much for the response. I did all you suggested and I flashed back over to the newest MIUI ROM and I still have the VM notification. I made sure I didn't have any voice mails before I flashed. The notification will not clear even with the settings selected to not show.
Initially it has the *86 number but when I change the VM settings to my number it of course then comes up in the drop down box with my number.
The same thing happens on CM ROMs.

My notification says 4 voicemails... so I'm wondering if when I rooted my phone I had voicemails.. I don't really listen to my voicemails.. i'd rather just receive a text from someone... I just wish that I had made sure to clear my box before I rooted.. not sure if this is the reason for it... but it doesn't seem like there are many users with this problem. I'm sort of anti-twitter or I would ask cyanogen myself.. this is soo annoying! Especially since I hate voice mail to begin with.. I don't read my bills much, but I think sprint charges for voicemail.. anyway I can cancel my voicemail service? Also they charge me to keep a spending limit.. I want to call sprint and ask to cancel my voicemail..

Updates ???
Feb 3 - 2011
Anybody ever figure this one. Or do we just clear the message on each reboot?
Clear dalv. and cache, then change *86 to your mobile number then block 9016 from your sprint account.I added youmail and mine works perfect.I get txt and VM very quick. If the person that left you the voice mail is in your contacts it will show them as leaving the VM and you can just tap on there pic and it will play the ones they left you.
And I have no phantom notifications or anything odd.

Here. That's the only known way to get rid of it. It's a PITA but it works.
I have a voicemail constantly in my status bar even tho when I try to call it doesn't say anything and when I go to visiual voicemail nothing new. It's annoying any idea for a fix? Thanks

what rom are you using.
If you're running an AOSP rom, that's a known bug. There is a thread floating around here with instructions on how to get rid of it. It involves flashing a stock rom, then activating an old non android phone, deleting all messages, reactivating the evo, updating profile and prl and then restoring your AOSP nandroid.
Not sure if it's worth all that

HAHA classic answer. I was thinking the same thing...that is a bunch of doo doo to get rid of a VM icon. WHOA!
I don't know if anyone has tried this, but whenever I had this issue with my old non android phones, I would have somebody call and leave me a message, and then I'd call my VM and delete the new message. It always fixed the notification when there weren't actually any messages. I don't know if the same would work with an android phone.

It doesn't. The only way is to call sprint, activate an old "dumb" phone, have sprint leave you an urgent voicemail, delete it, reactivate your android and it's all good.
I used to say it isn't worth it, but the 30 minutes it took to get rid of it was worth it to me. That damn icon and occasional notification sound just eats at you over time.
Ive flashed this phone with 2 different Roms and the icon that says i have a voicemail wont go away. And no i dont have a voicemail. Anyone know how to fix this?
Just call yourself from a different phone and leave a message. Check it the old fashioned way by actually calling voicemail and listen to the message, delete it with 7 and let it actually delete and the hang up. That should clear it up. Had to do it with my vibe every once in a while if I didn't listen to the whole message it would just sorta hang.

Well, on my Galaxy S3 SPH-L710, whenever I receive a voicemail, I get a text message telling me to dial a number to receive the message. When I do, it tells me "The message requested could not be found."
This only started happening after I rooted my phone. Anyone else have this problem or know a way to fix it so I can access my voicemail normally?
Thanks in advance!
This is actually how your phone talks to voicemail servers, are you still receiving voicemail notifications? That text is susposed to alert your phone via notification of a new voicemail

I myself am still waiting for another method to fix this. You can try to text "Block 9016" to then number "9999", which is a sprint shortcode to block a number. That didn't work for me but it seems to have worked for others.
There's also another method where you go to your VVM app, record a message(3-5 seconds), and send it to "[email protected]". Although I'm pretty sure all this does is let any voicemails you weren't receiving come through into your phone.
The way I understand it, this text is necessary, and there's not much you can do about it. As joeyhdownsouth said, this is how your phone receives a voicemail. If no method works for you then you can do some searches and find an app that will simply block the notification from ever even appearing in your status bar. You still get the text, but the app will intercept it before it can inconvenience you.
I decided not to block it, I don't care that much. It WOULD be nice to not have to get the text but this isn't the worst thing that could happen to me. If I could not get the text at all I would, but I don't care enough to install an app just to block one measly little text.
I have heard that fixing the issue is as simple as finding the appropriate vvm apk that works with your ROM. When I first flashed a custom rom on my s3, I too was plagued by those messages. I tried everything and just could not get rid of them either. On either tw or aosp. But since then, I know I've at least had two custom tw ROMs on my wife's phone that had working vvm without the text messages. Goodness ROM was one. Also, I'm pretty sure I've seen discussion of it working fine on a couple aosp ROMs too. If I stumble across any helpful links, I'll post them.

Also, not sure if you considered gvoice, but that's what I switched to when I couldn't fix the issue. Have used it since. I like the fact that it can back up your text messages. Especially if you are a flashaholic like me. You can have a searchable backup of all your texts no matter how many roms you flash and you don't even need to worry about restoring them from backup.

I think you're right, the sprint VVM app needs the TW framework to work. I remember reading somewhere that the text comes from the java level and you would need an app that interacts with that so the phone doesn't send the text

Or it has to be blocked at a java level by the developer that created the rom, but OP stated his phone is just rooted, kinda strange to be getting the vvm text, don't you think? I used to receive that text on roms that were in the beta stage.

I haven't had this issue myself so I can't be much of help. But I would think that possibly you may have rooted it incorrectly in some way or maybe installed a root application that interfered with your voicemail. This is quite possible.
#1 To Root Properly Visit This Link (I would recommend possibly resetting your phone and using TWRP Recovery instead of CWM Recovery)
OR
#2 Flash Odexed Blue, a custom rom based on TouchWiz, works quite well from personal experience
OR
#3 Flash Freeza's Stock Rom already Rooted for you This is for those who just want Root and no tweaks unlike in Odexed Blue. Also Freeza has a modified Stock Kernel which can be an improvement. BTW Stock Rom for Galaxy S3 is Odexed if you were wondering, maybe use Deodexed since I have heard those are easier to modify, though I may be wrong.
OR
#4 Just reset your phone and reroot again? Resetting can solve a lot of problems
Just a couple suggestions, hope you work out your issue. :good:

My phone was rooted for 6 months and everything was OK. A few days ago, I upgraded to 4.1.2 and that's when my voicemail problem started. I no longer get the voicemail icon. I only get those annoying text messages that don't do anything most of the time. I know there is a fix for this because it happened on my Galaxy S1 and I was able to fix it. But darn if my 65 year old brain remembers how. I would appreciate some help. Thanks.
