Kernel zip to tar to flash it with odin - Galaxy S I9000 Android Development

Hello,
Like everyone here I like to flash my phone but sometimes I get in a bootloop and I can't acces the recovery so my phone get in a bootloop and there are no SGS kernel that is flashable with odin.
But I've found the solution given by TrollFactory
-Download the CreateTarForKernel.zip attached
-Extract it to CreateTarForKernel
-Download a kernel zip and extract it in the CreateTarForKernel folder
-Rename the boot.img (or whatever is the name .img) to zImage (remove the .img)
-Launch tar.bat
-And flash KERNEL.tar with odin
Now you can go in recovery and flash again the rom, this way you don't have to wipe your phone like you usually have to on ics.
That's it !!

thanks a lot ..

Flash boot.img using Heimdall is not an option?

This should work with any sammy kernel right?
I was going to try this on my S4 kernel so that I can flash with odin.
I then proceed to put it under pda and flash right?

What's your opinion on flashing the Bell model with the Telus Kernel?

[GUIDE][PRO DUOS] Recover B5512 from soft brick using ODIN

I have soft-bricked my phone by trying to install a different kernel and ROM on my Pro Duos B5512.
Flashing only the kernel in the thread by championswimmer didn’t work because of a md5 mismatch.
This guide should also work with other samsung models if you find the right firmware (search on http://www.mod2xtreme.com/ or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1656825)
All credits go to manoranjan2050 for his great work in uploading the firmware for all the samsung galaxy y devices!
Go here to find the firmware package for the y pro duos
http://www.mod2xtreme.com/showthread...-Firmware-List
There I downloaded the latest firmware for Europe. Using Odin3 v1.85 I flashed successful and my phone is back up and running!
Here is a step by step:
1. Download and install KIES by Samsung (Odin needs these drivers to work)
2. Download odin3 1.85 (search on xda)
3. Download a firmware pack on mod2extreme
4. Open Odin and put the phone into download mode (volume down+Home+power, then select volume up to enter download mode)
5. Wait for your computer the finish the automatic driver program and your computer should recognize your phone
6. Now select the following files in ODIN (make shure auto reboot and F. reset time is selected)
-> PIT is the .pit file in the firmware map, the box in ODIN to Re-partition should be automatically checked now (if there isn't a pit file then this remains empty)
-> BOOTLOADER, select the file which has BOOT in the file name
-> PDA, select the file which contains PDA in the file name
-> PHONE, select here the file which has MODEM in the file name
-> CSC, select the file which has CSC in the file name
Info:For Save Use Do Not Use Boot loader and pit file. Do this only if everything else failed!
When everything is set-up click start and keep your fingers crossed! When everything goes according to plan your phone should restart, copy some files to system and the reboot again. Your phone is back to life! (boot could take 2-3 min)
Hope you fix your phone!

Nice explanation..
1. Suggestion..
Add "[GUIDE]" to your thread name.. It helps to identify what it is in mobile xda app.. and change mobile name to galaxy y variants.. As i suppose your guide covers both y duos and y phones... And lastly add link to manoranjan2050's thread (link)who is doing great work of providing all latest stock firmware updates to both duos of galaxy y.. So anyway good info..
hit thanks button! If above post helps you..

Thaks for the great guide. In Nitubhaskar's compact kernel thread for our device he gave advice on how to flash stock kernel and recover from soft brick in case you brick phone while flashing custom kernel. Can you add some of that info here and credit the appropriate persons? It would be great to have all relevant soft brick info for our device. Yor thread is dedicated to recovering from soft brick and so would be the best place to have all the facts in one piece

Hi, I have not used odin before, but my phone (B5512 galaxy y pro duos)
has a firmware from another country and I want to have my own
(because then I can write in my language). I have downloaded a file which
has "modem"," csc" and "pda" files only and it's the firmware other people
from my country have (B5512XXLF2) . I think my phone has Polish firmware (B5512XXLL1)
while I want the Greek one. Also, these two types seem the same
(the only difference in the code is the year month and version)
but one has greek keyboard and the other doesn't, what's the deal with that?
Will this method work for me? If not can I recover my phone?
I have not done this before and the phone is less than a month old and I am scared!
Thank you.
Recovery via odin should be possible. As for flashing Greek firmware I recommend you talk to Deadly or another expert via PM before proceeding.

Here is the step by step guide:
NOTE: you cannot flash it the same way as you would flash a custom rom.
After downloading it make a folder on your desktop and unzip the file
using Winzip or 7zip so the .TAR file is in the new folder you just made.
Here is a link for ODIN which is required for flashing the stock rooted firmware (a windows app) http://d-h.st/Q14
Download and extract Odin into the same folder you made containing the TAR file.
Download the the stock T999 rom and extract the TAR file into a new folder on your desktop of the computer.
Download the Odin Flash firmware for T999 Tmobile then copy it to the same folder as Odin
Run Odin by double clicking the Odin.exe within the same folder as the TAR file you extracted
Turn off your phone and boot into DOWNLOAD MODE (Volume Down + Home + Power Hold until phone powers up, then release and press Volume Up to enter Download Mode)
Once in Download Mode, connect the USB/Charger cable to the phone and plug into the USB port on your computer.
You should now see a COM** port listed toward the top-left of Odin (under ID:COM)
Click on the PDA button in the middle-right area of Odin.
Browse to and select the Firmware you downloaded (TAR file)
Make sure Auto-Reboot and F. Reset Time are the only options checked and that PDA is the only other thing checked.
TRIPLE CHECK your settings and that you have selected the correct firmware for your model phone and are using the correct options.
If you are using a laptop, make absolutely sure you are plugged in, or if on battery, that it is charged enough and will not go into sleep mode during flash.
Click Start to begin the flash. This will take a while, so be patient!
Once complete, in the top-left box in Odin, it will say PASS and the phone should have automatically rebooted.
You may unplug the phone and close Odin if you wish.
Wait at least 5-10 minutes for the system to boot the first time and then build its cache!
(It may seem to hang during boot, this is normal and you must be patient!!!)
Good Luck!

From your two posts I'm going to guess that you are rooted and have a custom recovery installed.
Here is the latest stock rooted 4.1.1 jellybean ROM for the T-Mobile Galaxy S3.
Just flash this rom as you would any other ROM.

[Q] Unable to Boot in Download Mode

Dear Friends,
I am facing an interesting issue.
Due to rain my grand i9082 have a issue of volume down(-) so unable to use that.
I want to go to download mode.
I have philz CWM recovery.
I want to install latest CM11 App2sd ROM so whenever I install it by Philz CWM it gives status 7 error.
To resolve this i need to shift to earlier CWM with ODIN method but i am unable to boot in Download Mode.
Expecting interesting solutions from all of you masterminds.
Please let me know any tricks.
U can use the same Philz to flash whatever CWM u want.
If u still need ODIN then follow below procedure:
You will have to install Android Adb & Fastboot drivers.
Now open settings on your phone and in developer options enable USB debugging mode.
Connect your device to your PC and allow debugging when it prompts on your phone.
Open the Fastboot folder that you created using our ADB & Fastboot drivers guide.
Open the Fastboot folder and then hold the shift key on your keyboard and right click on any empty area within the Fasboot folder.
Click on “Open Command Window / Prompt Here”.
Type the following command: adb reboot download
As soon as you hit the Enter Key, your phone should boot into the download mode.

Status 7 means often your recovery is outdated
Status 2 means in the script in the rom is to old, update the script or use older recovey
Personaly I always had problems with the Clockworkmod Touch & Non-Touch Recoveries, but never had any problem with the plain CWM V6.0.45 (recovery_20131210) and was able to flash all and never had problems or errors

Ohhh :crying::crying::crying::crying:
I am not able to boot in Download mode that is the main issue.
But can anyone suggest me how to enter download mode without hard keys.
I have tried Philz Recovery but phone stuck up at logo.
Almost dead phone :crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying:
Did you see if you can use ADB from a computer??
adb reboot download

Status 7 means often your recovery is outdated
Status 2 means in the script in the rom is to old, update the script or use older recovey
Personaly I always had problems with the Clockworkmod Touch & Non-Touch Recoveries, but never had any problem with the plain CWM V6.0.45 (recovery_20131210) and was able to flash all and never had problems or errors
