Warranty issues with Galaxy Nexus - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Does anyone have experience with warranty claims with the Verizon Nexus?
My phone is having issues maintaining a 4G connection with all ROMs including stock and unrooted. I went 4 days without 4G no matter about restarting, battery pulls, or anything. Then it came back on after a flash of a ROM. Bluetooth also drops out randomly.
I went in to see about getting it replaced without using the Asurion insurance BS and the rep told me they would charge me the full price of the phone when I returned mine because it has a small chip in the corner of the screen. Is this legal? Its normal wear and tear. Not a cracked screen just a chip in a corner. Can they charge you full price of a phone when you have insurance in the first place?!
Has anyone been charged full price for a phone you return on warranty?
This rep also told me they don't replace phones in the store anymore at all? Is this true? I'm thinking the rep was jerking me around. I don't think this was an official Verizon shop either. More like a reseller.

call customer service and have them set it up with a corporate store. I had similar problems with my first gnex (that I got off of wirefly) and was able to swap it out for a brand new one at the vzw store near my work. I was within the 14 days though, after that IIRC they give you a refurb.

[Q] Dead Pixel

SO as the title implies I have a dead pixel, or its really a discolored pixel (black background makes it red). I bought the phone through Radio Shack on June 18th. So it's past the 30 days return policy. I assume that means I have to go through HTC. Does anyone have any experience with dead pixels on the EVO?

actually no unless sprint has changed its policy they cover all manufacturers defects for a year, so take it to your nearest sprint service and repair store, doesnt matter where you got the phone.

It is so common for LCDs to have dead/stuck pixels that 99% of the time unless it is a cluster of them Sprint won't replace it because the replacement is likely to have one also
I had a dead pixel issue a week after i got the phone at launch. i went through hell trying to get it replaced with a new phone but that was more to do with availability than anything else. what i have found to work best is to call *2 and speak with tech support about it and they can overnight a refirb to you. however i hope you are not rooted and have no intention of doing so because the phone they will send you will all most defiantly have ota 2.2 on it and we cant root them yet.

So after looking around and finding nothing cheaper than $220 for the replacement screen on GoUnlock.com, I registered for an account on Samsung.com, called up Samsung Mobile Support (+1-888-987-4357) and after talking to a support specialist, I was able to set up a repair order to send my phone to the Samsung Repair Center in Plano, TX, and the total cost (shipping + replacement screen) amounted to $163.46. Turnaround time was a little less than 2 weeks.

Had a guy while on public transportation try to steal and then drop my phone on his way off the light rail earlier tonight, the screen is busted and talking to Verizon, there's nothing they can do. Apparently my Verizon store rep never did add insurance.
Looks like the only way I can get my screen fixed is by doing it myself (or finding someone who can, I'll opt for myself though). I've been looking and I haven't had any success in finding a replacement LCD screen and digitizer for my Galaxy Nexus SCH-i515 (CDMA/Verizon).*
Has anyone come across a reputable dealer online who has this part?
* = I have found one dealer online who has it apparently: GoUnlocker.com - I just don't know how legitimate they are. The only reviews I've found on them are from RipOffReport ... 2 reviews, both bad. If anyone has had any experience with them I'd be happy to know how they are.
There's this guy who is selling on eBay. It might be worth asking if the screen he is selling for the GN will fit your CDMA version.
I did get my screen on my GSM Nexus replaced but that was through the retailer's own tech department as it had severe banding issues. It might also be worth calling Samsung and getting the quote for a change? Who knows, it might just be quite close to the price of the part itself?
Call Samsung they should be able to fix it for you as it is still under their warranty

Warranty only covers "manufacturers defects". Some punk trying to steal a GN and dropping it is certainly not a defect. At least not Samsung's.

So after looking around and finding nothing cheaper than $220 for the replacement screen on GoUnlock.com, I registered for an account on Samsung.com, called up Samsung Mobile Support (+1-888-987-4357) and after talking to a decent fellow (who happened to be an HTC EVO 3D owner, which is his first true smartphone ever, but he really does want the Galaxy Nexus when it comes out on Sprint), I was able to set up a repair order, and the repair cost would amount to a total of $163.46.
Since my phone is still under warranty, and due to the fact that the Galaxy Nexus is a priority support phone for Samsung, the turnaround time provided is the fastest they offer; The turnaround time will be 2-days UPS shipping to Plano, TX; 2-days for repair; and 2-days UPS shipping to return to me.
Samsung informed me that during this time, unfortunately they could not provide me with a loaner phone, that I should check with Verizon to see if they could loan me one in the meantime. I contacted Verizon, and since they were not going to be able to repair my phone as it wasn't insured, they would also not be able to provide me with a loaner phone, but otherwise would have if I had gone through their repair process (which I wasn't eligible for).
Guess I'm going to have to dig out my Sprint Nexus S 4G and use it as a WiFi-only phone (using GrooveIP) during this time. Fortunately I won't be without mobile data as I also usually have my Xoom 4G with me. Gads, I'd probably die otherwise.

@frogskins - My thinking was initially with what you posted, I am surprised and pleased that Samsung accepted my repair.
@McDizzle - The guy probably wouldn't have dropped it if I hadn't grabbed at his vest as he was trying to get away from me. Although the screen cracked, it's still a small victory over losing the phone completely.

I don't agree. They do drop test's on there product and mine cracked at a height of about 30cm. If their tests were done correctly they would realise there product is not durable at all. You shouldn't have to buy a case for a phone for it to be durable. Therefore it should be under warranty.

On a whim, I called the 888 number to see if they could help repair my busted SGN screen as well. Sure as scheisse, $163.46 later and I received the UPS labels in an email and was quoted ~2 weeks turn around.

It took a little less than two weeks for me to send out my SGN and get it back, and my phone is now in pristine condition. It was reformatted back to ICS 4.0.2 (I had an OTA 4.0.3 on it before I sent it to them, I haven't been able to redownload OTA 4.0.3 for some reason though), and also I haven't had any random reboots (yet) like I have in the past. Since I didn't rip my phone apart, it is still under warranty as how it is explained to me.
Also, I'm running the Otterbox Defender on my SGN now (just in case). It's a nice case and fits perfectly even with the extended battery, and holding it in a gloved hand is a heck of a lot more secure. I'd rather not take another chance.

How in the hell did you come up with that. Sure they perform droptests but it's not covered by warranty. Why? Because it matters where exactly did the phone fall ( side, back, front) and on what ( concrete, wooden floor etc.) Sometimes I'm amazed at some people. I's that hard to think before you speak.

I'm sure they would. You'd probably be charged up front for any repair and you'd probably be without your phone for 2-4 weeks. You should give them a call +1-888-987-4357 and explain your issue. Be sure you let us know what you find out.

thanks, will do -- btw the i9250 is the gsm version of the galaxy nexus which isn't sold in the usa, that's why i'm worried they wouldn't be able to fix it. but i'll give em a call and post what i find out
sorry to hear what happened... I had a similar thing happen to my cdma galaxy nexus and
when I called a local phone repair shop, they said its 250 dollars for the screen and 60 dollar for the labor cost. so about $310+tax... I honestly thought this price was ridiculous so I have been living with a crack on my galaxy nexus screen...

If you can stand to be without your phone for a week or two, you should definitely see about getting in contact with Samsung for the repair. The price is nearly half of what your local shop would charge you.
I was able to survive because I still had my Samsung Nexus S 4G (Sprint) on hand. I'd had it up for sale shortly before the screen on my Galaxy Nexus got busted, so I took it down from sale, updated it to (the leaked) 4.0.4, installed GrooveIP and used the Nexus S 4G as a WiFi phone using my Google Voice number. It also helped that I have a Motorola Xoom 4G LTE that kept me on a data drip until my Galaxy Nexus got back in.
im not sure if you guys have insurance on your phones but i dropped my nexus face down and really destroyed the screen i called VZW and they directed me to the insurance company they charged me $100 bucks and i had a brand new nexus by 10 in the morning all they wanted back was the phone i kept the battery and charger. along with the brand new battery and charger, and headset from the new nexus they shipped me. although having to go thru setting up your phone again sucks it beats paying $160+ AND you get it the next day. hopefully this helps someone in the same situation

That sucks to hear. Did they provide you with a phone number at least? If they didn't you might still have luck by getting in contact with a different country's Samsung Repair Centre such as Samsung Canada.

Last week, my phone in its Seidio case fell off my fireplace mantle, and landed face-first onto an AC adapter prong. The screen was completely garbled and unreadable.
I didn't do any homework, but luckily it seems like I made the right choice in shipping it to Samsung and paying the $150 or so. I'm glad to hear that I only have to wait another week to get it back. Being without a phone is tough, especially since I had to do a bit of traveling this week. I just hope that Samsung doesn't care that the phone is rooted and the whole bit.
I didn't get insurance because I dropped my G1 and N1 all over the place when I was using them and never even had a scratch. I might get some this time around.
I'm having this issue right now. I've had nothing but issues with my phone (mic dropping out, slowing down/freezing and random reboots daily, Wireless disappearing totally, data connection disappearing, phone totally cutting out/popping during phone calls).
To top it off, I dropped the phone on Friday and now Verizon won't swap out the phone (no insurance) for less than like 350 bucks...more than I paid for the phone. I can sign up for the insurance but would have to wait 30 days before I can put in the claim on the phone.
The guy said if I could find a 3rd party to fix the screen, like some cell phone kiosk or something, they would swap it out under warranty without an issue.
I haven't contacted Samsung yet, but I'm guessing I'll get that 165 dollar deal that's mentioned here so.. I'd do the insurance route but hate that I'd have to sit on a phone for 30 days. If it was just the cracked screen I would deal, but it's about useless as it is.

Verizon warranty/exchange, how does it work.

Im with verizon for only a month so i dont quite know how their warranty department works etc, I knew every single thing about ATT and knew my way around. So the point is i brought a nexus of off craigslist and i meet up with the guy at a well lit coffee shop i got the nexus all happy went back to the car to realized the phone has the (grays are purple) issue. So now im looking into getting one without the issue from verizon, how does their warranty policy work? Do their phone come with 1 year warranty? will their give me crap if i say i got it from a friend and dont have a receipt?
Call. If you are paying for insurance on your line they may be willing to work something out. But you have to call.
They have been really nice to me... a first from Verizon. When I had a Droid X, I sent it back four times because of a KNOWN issue that they refused to acknowledge... that stupid red eyeball then locking up and not letting me restart without a battery pull.

If you didn't buy it from them == then I'm betting they will not do anything other than tell you to send it to Samsung for warranty. They in turn may very well require proof of purchase -- to service it -- to ensure that it was not stolen.

Or they may charge you to service it as well...including just to "look" at it.

I bought a Droid X about this time last year off of Craigslist and after I got home and played with the phone I noticed the screen had a few bright spots on it and the screen flickered a bit. I had literally activated it a day earlier and went on their website and talked to one of those Chat associates and told them what the phone was doing. I had literally no idea when the phone was previously purchased or if the warranty was still valid, but even then they said it was under warranty (I also have the insurance for the phone, even though they never asked about that.) They overnighted me a refurbished phone pretty much no questions asked other than to tell them what color the water damage stickers were during our conversation. I had upgraded to an Incredible about 6 months earlier and then switched to the X and they asked zero questions how I came to have the X or what happened to my Incredible. I basically got a refurbished Droid X off Craigslist for $200. Not bad in my book!
I'd say just call them up on the phone or go on to VZW.com and surf around until the chat bubble pops up, that's what I've done a few times and it's always paid off (mostly because I don't like talking to customer service people on the phone for some reason haha.)

How to exchange if not purchased from Verizon

So I bought my Galaxy Nexus LTE off Craigslist. Love this bad boy, however I am one of the lucky ones that loses Data/Voice at least 4 times per day. Have tried different radios, went back to stock, factory reset, and only 2 apps I have installed are tapatalk and no signal alert.
Talked to Samsung and I can send it in for them to correct the problem but I would be without a phone for 2 weeks. Is there anyway to get Verizon to exchange it?

Depends on the store/rep you get. It is still technically under the 1 year warranty, but if they want, they can say it's not the original account. I had a blackberry i ebayed a few years back, got it, exchanged it in store no problem. Took my incredible off my family plan (which my name was also on) and wanted a replacement due to the speaker issue and store rep and manager got into it with me for 30 minutes due to it being a "different account" the phone was originally on, even though the phone was ALWAYS on the same phone number. So i guess what i'm saying is try it, if it doesn't work, go to another VZ, or go back a few days later for a new rep. 1 year warranty is a 1 year warranty.
It depends on the rep you talk to. I bought mine from a retailer online, and the VZW rep had to get some supervisor approvals before he could exchange it.
The rep said that what they do is basically send everything goes to Samsung, but they are basically front you a device so you don't have to wait the too weeks. The warranty is not a VZW warranty it is a Samsung warranty so regardless of who you got it from it should be still under warranty. The issues is whether VZW will front you a device while your old one goes back to Samsung.
1. Call them up tell them your issue with the antenna,
2. Tell them you already did a factory reset and it still doesn't work.
3. If they ask you where did you purchase the phone, just say an authorized retailer. VZW will not heads or tails if that is the case because they do not track authorized retailer shipments.
4. Make sure you bring it back to stock if you had it rooted. I use WugFresh Tools to unroot and relock.

And no Verizon won't replace it, let's face it big reds a **** head ( that why we have data caps now) all about them dollar signs. Trust me I was in the same spot as you when I purchaced my gnex at Verizon "premium retailer" (phone store thats not oficailly Verizon). Samsung is your only hope. Oh yeah check your setting and make sure your data limiter is switched off or your not past your limit
Like I said it depends on the Rep you talk to. This happened to my wife's phone back in March, and we bought the phone from Xpress-Phones.com. The guy new the phones just got released in December so there was no way possible the warranty had expired. He had to get a supervisor approval for the exchange, but there was no issues.
And if all else fails just unroot it, bring it back to stock, relock it and bring it to the VZW store.
If you've been with Verizon for a while try calling the Loyalty Hotline. I've always gotten whatever I ask for (within reason of course): 877-628-8922 Also, if they say no the first time just call back later, it can't hurt to ask.

[Q] One stuck green pixel!

I've had my GS3 for a few months now. A few days ago I noticed a single green pixel stuck in the "on" position. I was able to press and rub the screen enough that it went away. Well, now it's back and the pressing and rubbing doesn't help. I'd really like to fix this issue without the hassle of unrooting and returning/exchanging. I did install this free app called Dead Pixel Detect and Fix, which is suppose to help with stuck/dead pixels. I've ran the fix for two nights in a row and I have to say the green pixel is less noticeable, (if that's even possible). I may run it a few more times just to see if it diminishes even more, but has anyone else had this issue? Found success in fixing the issue?
After a few days my screen issue has not improved. I decided to go through the hassle of unrooting and returning my phone to Sprint. I called my local Sprint store this morning and was told by the woman working that since I don't have insurance I'd have to deal directly with the manufacturer, and send in my phone for repair or possible exchange. When I informed her that would leave me with out a phone, (for possibly a long while) she just acknowledged the fact and basically had the attitude of it's my problem to deal with.
Does this seem right to anyone? True I do not have insurance but it is clearly a manufacturer's or component defect of a 2-month old phone. Why won't Sprint send it back to the manufacturer and give me a loaner phone in the meantime? Any advice would be clearly appreciated.
Im not sure what you want Sprint to do for you. You don't have insurance what else is there left to be said? Maybe next time you get a new phone you'll have some type of insurance.
As far as a loner goes just look in Craigslist for cheap ass Sprint phone, I'm sure you could find one for 20 or 30 bucks.

Do you work for Sprint? I don't think I'm being unreasonable. I'm not asking for Sprint to fork over a new phone. Just a loaner phone so I can send my phone to Samsung for repair.
Anyone else have any suggestions besides finding a 20 dollar phone on Craigslist. ?
Sprint sells refurbished phones on its website that reqhire no contract extension.

Last time I had a manufacturers defect on a phone with Sprint, they ordered me another one and I kept mine until it arrived. You may check with the store and ask them.
