So... If i don't get that last OTA update? - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Really, with my current battery problem, I want that network app thing. My question is, hasn't it been 6 weeks? If I don't get the OTA do I never get it?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk 2

There are plenty of ways to get the official update, not just OTA. Check the development section and you should be able to find the full installs of the officials or even the update.zips that people pulled when they got the OTA notice.

if you use just the update.zip, you won't lose data and you could just pull your sd card and put the zip on there, then update. Or use something like dropbox and pull it to your phone that way. Lots of options to avoid using USB.

He is talking about the Sprint Connection Optimizer. There is a stock deodexed FC09 ROM I put out in development as well as The People's ROM V2.2 which is FC09 with it included. If you want FC09 baseband you will have to try the flashable delta if you can't Odin it.

Previous threads about the update were solely about how it's not ICS, which is why they were locked.
If this thread is simply going to be about the update itself then it's fine but if it descends into ICS-related discussion, it'll end up locked as well.

Readers digest version:
I started with rooted stock.
I pushed the MD5 tar file posted in the ICS thread via Odin successfully.
I lost root.
I re-rooted successfully via the Odin method (push CWM to phone via Odin, then flash superuser)
I saw a link in the ics thread to an Odin file for the update. Has anyone tried it yet. I just want to make sure I'm not gonna brick if I use it. I'm not worried about losing root. That's easy enough to get back. Thanks
Never mind dude above me posted answer as I posted my question.

^^^^^^^
Bit of info on it from me, running it non-rooted:
- Scrolling Wallpaper Disabled in TouchWiz - install this app to fix it. Root not required
- Carrier IQ still detected (Lookout)
- Battery life seems the same
- Better phone answer screen which is more responsive
- Slightly different lock screen when not using a pattern, pin, or password
- Faster widget responses (no more waiting 10-12 seconds after touching "brightness" in stock power widget)
- Apps seem to open faster, possible updated java platform for speed improvements, or perhaps due to Qualcomm driver update
- Noticeable improvement in multitasking while on a call
- Faster homescreen changing thanks to Qualcomm driver update
- No call echo
- No general 'stutter' in performance that affected previous revisions thanks to Qualcomm driver update
- Touchscreen more accurate - This is hard to prove but overall I find I'm doing things more accurately since this update
- Power off time still the same
- Power on time slightly improved (by about 2 seconds)
- Quadrant benchmark results: 3359 (about the same as before) and of course, proof of said score: http://i.imgur.com/WCek0.png (Note: Benchmarks do not necessarily reflect on day-to-day general use)
Qualcomm update/patch seems to be a prerequisite for incoming ICS update
Updated to include hotfix for scrolling wallpaper (thank you BRKotucs), also bolded both bad things about the update to make them more visable. Pros still outweigh cons

I think they did a lot of updates that are included with ICS in this latest build. Just as smooth as the ICS leaks. KL1 was always so choppy and laggy, can't believe this is coming out of my mouth (fingers?) but I'm staying stock until official ICS. I've had over 10 Android phones, and I've never seen a stock ROM run so smooth.

Don't believe this is an update. This is simply the stock firmware that came with the phone. It might come in handy if/when something goes terribly wrong and a backup won't fix your issue.

I'm not exactly sure if this is the stock tar or not.....
BUT if it is, you should be able to just restore your stock nandroid and pull out the recovery file and put that in the pda slot of odin.
Or just put the entire tar in the pda slot... looking for some confirmation on this

I'm just concerned about whether that Device Status field in the About Phone settings is something that is stored underneath the OS and can't be changed once you flash something. This would be an easy indicator that the phone has been messed with and clear void of warranty for normally clueless reps even if you do a return to stock type flash. Before I rooted, it said "Factory Mode“ but now says "Modified“. I haven't touched anything else other than flashing CWM and Superuser.

FF18 to FH13 Update.zip anyone?????

Ok so im on FF18 and battery life sucks beyond belief. I saw sprint announced the FH13 update on August 22 and its not August 30 and I still have not got this stupid update. I understood you're opening post. I was clarifying what the post I referenced, referenced.
In the process of testing something but if you can wait, I'll attempt to locate what you asked for, which I believe is in the fh13 thread itself.
There is a thread that discusses the latest rdf and I believe a user posted the update itself there if you want to go look in the mean time.
:edit: Try contacting crawrj and ask if he may have it still. I believe he did the original md5 comparison.

In looking what you asked for, I was only able to locate the "D710_HOME_SPH-D710.FH13_CL663858_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5" file that was pulled from Kies.
I haven't located any posts to where anyone pulled the actual OTA update. But that's not to say it isn't here, I just haven't seen it.
FF18 to FH13 update.zip its just 11.5 Mb is way easy and less hassle, someone can just pull the link.
And yes is available now via OTA (11.5Mb) or via Kies (300+Mb)

Do you mean FH13? The reason it isn't taking the update is because it has a custom recovery. The device must have stock recovery, and in my experience, no removed stock apps if running stock w/root.

You can just save the hassle of all this stock recovery if you want... by using this one click (non rooted) update to FH13

You should be able to find the complete one click odin method that does not do a data wipe. So of you upgraded to fh13 and want to go back to ff18. Then find the one click no data wipe and that may do it. If you want tl go back to el29 do the same thing. However going back from ics to without a data wipe could prove faulty. But you could odin back to ff18 then do a titanium back up to back up all apps and data. Then do a complete odin based wipe back to el29 then try and restore via titanium. That may give you the all around solution you guys are looking for. But it's all theoretical have not tried this exact method myself but should work.

Is FH13 being pushed by Samsung or something? Need some help guys!?

My friends has a gs3 he purchased on release day and rooted it. The past week he accepted two ota's which broke his root. So I'm trying to root it for him but here's where the confusion kicks in. On sprints website it actually show these updates are old and not new and there's two more recent ones he never got pushed to him. Right now the phone is on LG2 and won't update any further. What do I need to do to be up to date with root. Should I just look for a way to root this build or try updating it. By the way I haven't seen any root methods for this build which is why I'm asking. Thanks in advance to anyone who responds

The method he used to root it in the first place should work again. Try that.
Then once it's rooted again go to this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1904099
Download the file "LI3 STOCK WITH AUTO COUNTER RESET" in the first post and flash the file in recovery. That will put the phone to 100%stock, unrooted, on the latest build.
From that point, if he wants to, he can reroot the phone and install the latest TWRP recovery. After that, tell him not to accept any OTA updates. Come back here to the development forum and someone will have the update in flashable form so that root isn't lost.

Yup thats the most easy way of doing it. you say ur not rooted but do you have custom recovery? If so then re rooting before the flash wouldn't be necessary.
It will not wipe data however its recommended that you do. granted it will probably work just fine if it being installed over top of a stock Rom. Then to keep root/recovery just follow the instructions in the post

Yes it is stupid proof but it also makes you have to take an extra step to reset the count. On my phone I just deal with the Odin OC which don't mess with your counts and come rooted then mobile Odin for the rest. Never have to worry about a flash count. But anyways thanks for all the help guys! I'm going to try and get this done tonight. Even though we both going for the note 2 in just a matter of days
