[Q] Does One V feel comfortable in your pocket? - HTC One V

Because of the angled bottom part I wondered if this phone fits comfortable in a pocket. What are your experiences? Can you feel the angled bit in your pocket?

easier to reach from my point of view~

It depends on your pants...
I'd say no because the chin's upper edge is only 2-3mm above the screen.
Cheers.

Is it only 2-3 mm? I have seen the One V only in pictures and this thing looks very much protruded, hence my question. But I guess pictures exaggerate reality...

the chin overall looks bigger as you SEE the upper und lower side/edges and the material between. As I wrote the upper EDGE is only those few mm above the screen surface so you will not actually feel the chin.

The phone doesn't feel awkward at all. It feels normal and the chin isn't really felt, at least not to me.

Build quality = annoying

hey guys i really like the gnex but the build quality isn't really good
the backcover crunches in the near of the camera
and today i experienced another quality issue after 10 days of using the phone really carefully the bottom of the phone clatters when i push
for such a expensive phone it's really disappointing
is it just me or somebody else noticed that

Yeah there is a soft spot below the camera where it slightly pushes in. I think it is because of the design of the back cover
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
Mines fine, though the back cover seems to be fairly flimsy, definitely will get a case.
Use a bit of tape
I also noticed there is some space under the batery cover around the camera. It produced annoying noices when making a call so I just put on some small strips of tape. Problem solved.

Good idea. I will do the same.
i guess the gap is important to release the heat at the top part during data usage
after applying tape.. dont you have heat issues?
No heat problem
The space between the cover and the body is really small. A few single tape strips at the right place prevent the cover from moving. No heat problems at all.

Mine does this if I don't have the rear cover installed correctly. It still has a TINY amount of push, but less than a mm. You can't notice it unless you look really close to it while pushing.

Good point, tape may become super-stuck-melted-on after a good round of video watching or game playing.
I've had to swap my Nexus for another one when my vibration motor started making weird noises. When my phone would vibrate, it would also come along with an annoying hum like a screw was loose or something.
Only had the phone for a week before that started happening.
I have the extended battery cover and it creaks really bad. My volume rocker is also loose and rattles. I am going to Verizon tomorrow to see if I can find a unit that is more solid.
Sent from my Verizon Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Mine is solid as a rock. No creaking, no soft spots. I have a spare battery and swap it out once in a wile so I take the cover on and off a few times a week. It may just be that it's not sitting right.
Best way I have found is to start at the bottom work your way up one side then down the other. If any clips are missed or not sitting right it will feel cheap. Once they are all clipped properly, it's as solid as can be.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
+ 1 to gnex build quality, not quite the heft of the n1 but it is as solid can be for a plastic phone.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I actually prefer the light weight plastic that samsung builds thier devices with. Look into a motorola or iphone if you want the battleship feel.
My post in this thread explains what that nose on the back cover is and how I fixed it on my phone.

How big does the nexus feel in your hand?

Im thinking of getting it but im wondering how big does it feel? Like compared to a 4.5" screen phone or 4.3" phone?
I know its a 4.65" screen but i know a goof portion of the bottom is used for the keys.
Feels pretty good in hand honestly.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Depends on the size of your hand...
I personally don't have a problem holding it about 90% of the time. The other 10% of the time I feel like I'm going to drop it because I'm walking down the street and trying to do something pretty involved one handed.
How big..? xD
it's normal, it feels good on my hand without cases, but with cases it fells not nice but it stays then much better..
when I use my Samsung jet or ZTE Blade then Galaxy nexus feels pretty big sometimes..
That is a pretty relative question, but mine feels pretty good in my hand. It is not a tiny phone by any means, but that is offset by my case.
It has a kickstand through which I slip a finger to walk around with the phone in my hand instead of a pocket.
It FEELS bigger than my old DX, but feels better at the same time. /shrug
OK so here's my experience with the magical Nexus.
Yes at first, (came from a LG Versa & iPod Touch) it felt and looked big.
But if u saw the presentation, they made the Bezel(side) so thin so it wouldn't feel so big.
And what do u know. It feels natural in the hand and in turn, I could never pick up a device that is smaller then 4.2" in screen size.
Now here is one thing for sure.
It will feel big in your pocket. I wear skinny Jeans and man this thing looks big in my front pocket and forces me to put it in my pocket when standing up. When I sit down it goes in my front pocket.
So that is my experience.
I find it about perfect for my medium sized hands. It's not that much bigger than an I9100, and because of its shape (very slight curve) it feels better in pocket. I wouldn't want to go much bigger however. All things considered it's likely a touch smaller than other 4.65" phones (if there are others that use physical keys as opposed to soft keys).
The first thing I did when I bought mine was do the "pocket test", i.e. how does it feel in the front pocket of my jeans. As I said the very slight curve does make a big difference, it's not a brick in your pocket and I find it feels smaller than my SGSII did.
Feels like a relatively small phone to me compared to the One X and Note I had previously. lol

Feels smaller than the i9100. More comfortable for sure, with the more rounded corners, but I sure as heck can't reach the top of the screen with one hand. That sorta sucks, but i'm not really the kinda person to walk around with it out in my hands.
well the phone is the size of my hand so it feels a bit big, but its lightweight. Its not really a big deal though because I carry a purse. So as long as you don't have tiny hands like me, you should be fine.
The only answers you're going to get are completely subjective. 'Feels good in the hand' statements in reviews are always a little silly because anything like that is completely up to the individual holding the object. It's best to try the device out yourself.

Yeah, I feel the same way. I have a lot of trouble hitting the upper left corner of the screen when holding it with my right hand. I do love this phone though.
I had a Motorola Droid X before my Gnex and it doesnt feel that much bigger. The screen is awesome though, much more detail obviously and since the screen goes close to the edges, its not really that much bigger of a phone.
You wont regret it

Ive had a skyrocket ( which i sold ) thats a 4.5" screen and it was somewhat hard to get to the top left, i guess its kinda of phablet thing lol
just got a Galaxy Nexus. Coming from the Samsung Infuse, which is a big phone in itself (4.5" screen). The Nexus just feels better in hand, imho. Whether it's beveled edges, curved glass, it just feels better.
As mentioned by someone else, I currently don't have a case on it,but one is on the way. Will be interested to see how it feels then.

you are nowhere near a point where you should be showing off. get at least some semblance of a finished product, then come back.
doing a mod that allows you to keep a stylistic part (the draco) by making the device look like something scrounged from junk, is silly. and that is where it is as of now.

I think it is modelling parts: sheets of modelling plastic, glued together with modelling putty.. and then not bothered to be sanded down, or anything.

I'm not showing off. If you go through these threads just to bash on people, its not appreciated. If you actually read it. I wrote "WORK IN PROGRESS" and im pretty sure once i finish dremeling it and sanding it with rounded edges it'll look decent enough.
I just finished sanding. Can anybody give me any suggestions on how to make the corners cleaner? Is silicone a good option? I can't sand it down anymore or I would go through the plastic since I used a thin one to use NFC

Hey dude, get some automotive body filler. Should clean it up nicely. Model car putty should work too but i think the automotive filler will hold up better to getting hit. . Tape off the area you dont want to get the stuff on, Lay it on, than sand it, than id suggest spray painting the stuff to protect it, than it will look good.
Do a search on model car putty to get an idea of what it does.

Verizon/Toro Custom white housing (automotive quality)

I posted this in the other white housing thread, but that one is predominantly filled with GSM housing talk. If a mod finds this redundant, then by all means lock this one up. If not, enjoy everyone
For all my Verizon/Toro buddies out there in pain from a lack of a white housing... lookie lookie
Tada! It's painted with automotive paint from a local body shop. My friend's the manager so he helped me out a bit with this one, although I had to do all the prep work (dis/assembly, sanding, sticker application, etc.). It is painted with the Pearl White paint found on the Lexus IS350 and various pearl white toyota models. All the paint used are bumper spec (in other words, a flex additive was added to allow some flexibility in the paint, as opposed to something used to paint metal body panels), and everything was sealed in with a layer of clear coat.
The battery door isn't done yet, but should be done tomorrow. Shall update appropriately as time allows.
Edit: I'll try to get better pics when the sun comes out (if ever...). These indoor/gloomy pics don't do it justice at all!
Edit 2: All done, check it out! That's a chrome Samsung logo that's sealed in with the clear coat btw
The last pic is trying to demonstrate the pearlescent effect btw

It's probably about $30 worth of materials... and I mean JUST materials.
If you want to do this on your own, you will need some VERY fine grit sand paper, disassembly tools, VERY good quality paint with clear coat, the Sammy sticker (from Germany), a paint booth with automotive grade oven, spray gun, a certified automotive painter, and way too much time on your hands.
The painting process used is what auto body shops refer to as "3-stage" paint. This is basically pearlescent paint, which requires multiple methods to acquire the "chameleon" effect. How you do that is beyond me, but the shop did a damn good job of it.
As for pics, I've updated the OP with the completed phone. It is niiiiiiiiiiice :victory:

Amen to that one. I probably would only do this again if I'm feelin' frisky with my cellular (don't act like you don't understand what I'm saying )
707: I might be able to get a "frosted" finish instead of the high gloss like this one next time around, but I would imagine the matte finishes would attract the dye from jean pockets way too easily. Wish I could've taken nicer pics to demonstrate the nice pearl effect though.

I actually wanted a smaller Samsung logo, but that was the smallest I could find on eBay (there's only one dude who sells them, he's from Germany). Either way, I just really liked the way it was sealed by the clear coat so smoothly.
BTW, all the original logos (Verizon, Samsung, 4GLTE) that were embossed on the original cover no longer show. There isn't even a hint of a bump where they used to be
Looks kind of cool, but I wonder how long it will hold up. I would think that it would chip really easily. Either way thumbs up for having the nads to do something you like.

Guess I'll never know. I actually sold this phone to another Nexus user (he had his phone "stolen" from him, but I'll leave it at that for his privacy concerns). I felt kinda sad to let this go, because he didn't seem to to realize how special (at least to me) this particular Gnex was. Wasn't even aware that there is no such thing as a white Verizon Gnex except customs.

FYI if anyone wants to get one of these skins ask them what the dimensions are for them and compare to your phones.
dbrand had problems with the build qualities of the One and the difference between the different variants.
Here's what they said when I asked about them making a custom for my One. And these guys are meticulous about their quality/fit.
PS I bought a Nexus 4 custom skin from them, it fits perfectly, as if it was a part of the phone.
I'm waiting for dbrand to finish perfecting them. 3M gave them a leftover roll for the red carbon fiber used on the new ferrari.
It's rough man... HTC won't give us any of the CAD files due to some bs about not being a part of their "licensed accessory partner program". We can confirm that some devices are slightly different than others. The tolerance is about 0.2mm, which doesn't sound like a lot, but it really is.
Disclaimer: stop reading now if you don't want excessive details.
With the HTC One, because the device has a slight curvature on the back and rounded edges, users can't properly align it using a corner. It must be aligned using either the HTC logo or the camera/flash cutout. The tolerance lies between those two areas (the HTC logo and the camera/flash). So, for example, say on device X the HTC logo was 0.2mm lower than on device Y. Not only would the camera/flash cutouts be off by 0.2mm, but the skin would be hanging off the bottom edge by 0.2mm. The solution here is to create cutouts which are ~0.45mm larger than they need to be, and an outer limit which is ~0.225mm shorter from each side. The result is a skin that looks like it was half-assed, when the reality of the situation is that HTC's manufacturing process is just not stringent enough. The alternative is to go out and buy 3 sample phones from each carrier (9 in total in North America, totaling 27 phones), and test to see which carriers have which versions of each device. We would then have a selection page during checkout for each carrier and supply skins separately for each. While is is the route our CEO wants to take, the design team feels that the sample size is not great enough to accurately gauge what is what. It'll just end up being a cluster**** of skins that are slightly off.
