I called up a local HTC customer support hotline to inquire on replacing my G2's digitizer. They told me that they couldn't work on my phone since it's the Desire Z and not the G2 which was released locally [I brought the phone online], hence they could only replace the former's digitizer.
Is there any difference, then, between the digitizers of the two phones? Aside from the logo at the upper front portion of the screen ["HTC" for Desire z, and "T-Mobile" for G2]?
not a thing other than the branding

OK, I do know the difference between the A8181 and A8183. I am seeing quite a few cheap chinese dealers selling something called "HTC Desire G7" and the photos & specs look identical to A8181.
Can someone explain the differences please?
G7 sounds like a T-Mobile designation similar to what they did with the HTC: Dream (G1), Magic (F2f I think) and Hero (G3 or G4)

G7 means htc desire in china,as same as A8181

G7 in Australia?
Hi Guys,
As mentioned before, the G7 on the chinese websites seems to be way cheaper than what you can get in Australia(see TradeTang). However, I was just wondering if the phone would work as well as the A8181 on any network, and if there is any trade off in terms of quality?
Cheers
I am new to the Android scene and I would like to know if the G2 and/or Desire Z work fine on AT&T's network? I have no problem with rooting as long as tools and documentation are available. I'm not a professional at this but I can usually follow the instructions. I've rooted an HTC Inspire but that was already on AT&T's network so, no issues there. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Yes you can. You must get the HTC Desire Z a7275 model. This model is also known as the Bell Desire Z because Bell is the carrier. You can get one for as low as 450 USD on ebay but make sure you get the right kind. The G2 and other Desire Z version will work but they will not get 3G. Only the A7275 will get 3G.

Ok, thanks a lot for that!!!
Also, if you get the A7275 Desire Z, it needs to be SIM unlocked to be able to use it on AT&T. Either already SIM unlocked from the seller, or you can root and use gfree to unlock the SIM yourself.
Ok, SIM unlock and gfree should not be a problem for me.
thanks again!!!
I'm considering buying an HTC Desire Z from an Ebay seller located in Canada. Can anyone tell me if there are any duty fees / taxes for importing into the USA and if so, how these are paid, etc. I've never bought anything like this from outside the USA so, I have no idea what to expect.
Again, any advice would be appreciated.

I did the same with Ebay. I did not get any extra fees. The seller just sent it through Canada Post and then once it got to the US it went through USPS. It only took about a week. UPS and Fedex would be faster but a lot more expensive.
Just a heads up, Canada Post is currently engaged in a "labour dispute" with its union, so packages may take longer to be delivered. You could look for sellers that ship via UPS or Fedex, but I hear that they charge ridiculous brokerage fees (for the cross-border transaction).
Thanks to everyone for their input! My HTC Desire Z is great! Those of you wanting a moderatly sized android with a good physical keyboard, buy the Desire Z. All the junk I saw about the Z hinges being loose and other wierd stuff some people are able to make the hinge mechanism do, I have had none of those problems for over a month now. If you expect the Z hinge to keep an air tight seal when closed then this phone may not be for you but for those who have some understanding of mechanics, I don't think you will have any issues with it. Thanks again!!!
just dropped my phone and the screen cracked lol , btw if i root my phone and using custom rom will htc repair it for me under some cost ? not warranty of coz
They'll repair it but it'll cost you.

Even I cracked my screen on the second day i bought my phone HTC repaired it for 4500 Indian rupees...approx 90 USD. Lucky for me, when I went to collect it, the memory card didn't work. And HTC replaced me the phone .. indeed after a fight..but still they did that and am thankful for that

Repair it yourself
You can replace the screen yourself. Find a disassembly video on youtube for your model, get the parts on ebay (20-50$ for most models) and replace your broken LCD.
Good luck!
I have HTC one x, I bought it 1 month ago in Georgia, now I live in Cyprus and today wifi signal weakened and I discovered that it is common hardware problem that HTC one X has when you have to squeeze right side near volume button and it strengthens. I read that HTC knows this fault now and they replace phones with new one. If I will take it here in Cyprus will they change or fix it? I have box and all documents with me. I saw that tey have service Center here in Cyprus.
Thank you
Hello everyone, I am about to buy HTC one m8 and I saw a problem that the one m8 camera lens gets easily scratched or cracked but I want to know if this is happening in india, so if any Indian users having this problem and u have already found a
Way to prevent this problem mention them too
Thank you in advance
Not an Indian variant, but my US Verizon version cracked, HTC has started covering the camera lens under the standard warranty "just last week" according to the rep I spoke with. Warranty coverage may be different in India, but at least they are acknowledging they have a problem...
Just call them up and explain the issue. I got mine replaced under FOC.
