Go under software and you can see some of the features if you guys still don't know much about the SGS3 yet and what it is capable of. I'm sure with the brilliant and dedicated developers we have, they can definitely pull most of the things off on that last that does not require special sensors. So what do you guys think? I'm ready for S voice, smart alert, face and voice unlock, and the plethora of other things that the S3 has to offer.
I could be wrong, but I don't see Samsung updating older phones with those 'new' features if they want you to go out and buy their new SIII.
Though a few of those features has alternative means.

I think he's talking more so about if developers would be able to port those features to the galaxy nexus. Pretty safe to say samsung won't be officially handing them out but that's not to discount the great xda devs being able to port them.

Some features do look nice but not enough to changed my galaxy nexus... anyways some features probably will come to jelly bean I mean ICS has a lot features the CM and some other "roms " had in the past just like iOS adding a lot jailbreak tweeks is something is good someone will copy it happens just Google has to find a better way to implement the technology . The phone does not look bad and for the first time I don't feel like I need to upgrade my phone ( I had over 8 devices in the last 2 years ) and I'm really happy with my nexus

I'm hearing you there, this is the first Android phone I'm utterly in love with. It's so wonderful, fast, gorgeous display and it looks good too. I've had five Androids since 2010 and I'm going to be sticking to this one for a while. As Cyanogenmod development steams along I see no reason to look elsewhere.
Certainly the Galaxy III is a sexy phone but it's just not worth the cash for the extra features to me. Especially since it will be another wait until Cyanogenmod reaches a decent level of development for that phone.

$5 says its going to be all the features introduced in Sense 4 and Touchwiz on the GSIII.

I know I'm getting the features because I'm getting the phone. And no I don't think the gn will get some of the features due to CPU and GPU power and nfc speeds .
CPU and GPU on mirroring all share cast.
Nfc speeds on the s beam.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I am pretty sure that the GNex will get most of the features of the SGSIII eventually, either officially or unofficially!
What do you mean NFC Speeds on S-Beam? S-Beam works by initiating an NFC Connection, which then establishes a WiFi Direct connection between the devices to send the files, so there is no reason that GNex couldn't have it?
Samsung has released a list of devices that are scheduled to be updated to Jelly Bean. Missing from this list is the Captivate Glide. Oddly enough, they've chosen the Galaxy Chat (a phone that clocks in with a single-core, 850 MHz processor and a 1200 mAh battery) as the qwerty phone to update. (Indeed, all the phones to be updated are "Galaxy" phones.)
Source: The Verge
If our phone can run ICS, it can run JB, Samsung can't try to blame TouchWiz in this case like they did with the first Galaxy S when they said that the phone was in fact capable of running ICS, but not with TouchWiz, in our case, if the phone can run ICS with TouchWiz, it can run JB with TouchWiz.
So, please, Samsung, enough with the BS, and start working on JB for the Glide, I don't want to have to wait till 2013 to get the proper JB Source Code, because, that's the only thing that matters for me, the Source Code with the propietary drivers, because, let's be honest, who the f*ck wants JB with TouchWiz on top of it ? I want pure, stock, unmodded, untouched, vanilla Android.
It's no surprise, really. Doing ICS for the Glide has proven to be a hell of a lot more work than they anticipated and it's only sticking to their word that's keeping them at it.
We WILL have Jellybean ROMs of our own. There's no important kernel differences, it will come in time. Have patience, this is a ***** of a phone to develop for.
If Samsung Galaxy R gets Jelly Bean, then there's very, very good chance that we, me, and you will get to have Jelly Bean OS, just it's difficult to develop something that work, due to the difficulty of dealing with the useless digital blobs. It's like building a house without the foundation AND excepting it to stand.

Aren't updates for carrier based phones dependent on carriers (in this case AT&T or Rogers)? So Samsung won't comment on those phones. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Didn't At&T make the initial announcement last time for ICS?
That is one thing I hate about Android, the updates and not getting them.I must admit my next phone may be a nexus as those always get the updates since they are the ones Android is developed for. I may have to say by to the hardware keyboard and replace it with a Bluetooth keyboard case. Till then 2 more years with my glide and what ever little updates that intakes.

LOL I actually hate the proprietary phones much more. They are 100% useless if you are looking for a phone that you could customizable. I perfer Android more than any other phone OSes (personal perference).

Nexus is running Android. It is the phone Google makes all its builds for. Nexus is fully customizable as well.
I know Nexus is an Android hardware, in fact I wish I can afford to have this (pretty expensive - $400 to 1,000 depending on how "fresh" it is on the market and what's inside it).

hello d man is working on a custom ics rom for us. once he has finished that project he has promised us a jelly bean custom rom as well. so dont panic, the dman is to our rescue. I can tell you if you are expecting to have an AT rom for jelly bean they will mes that one as they did with the ics rom update. So i wont install any att rom from samsung and will wait for the dman to provides his custom rom and will have no more at bloat ware and it will bea vanillia experience of android ICs and Jelly bean since he is working with pure Android code from google AOsP, and AOKPA. If i am spelling these short codes names.

NO, none till date.
Thanks for reply, I am currently using xperia pro, and would like to shift to glide because of better hardware spec. How would to rate glide and associated experience. Is it worth switching? Keyboard is real concern here else better spec phone alreay available in market.

Greetings.
I was switching from an MK16i, and i have to say it really worth it! The Captivate Glide beats the Xperia Pro in every aspect, except battery life (it's roughly the same).
I have the S3, and S4's 441 ppi Screen is tempting me, but won't our GS3, have those features through a ROM? So should I upgrade or not?
Probably not. Unless you want Touchwiz running on the latest and greatest android build the GS4 is probably not the best way to go if you already have a GS3. Not to mention all those new features will be gone the minute you flash an aosp ROM. So YES if you want Toichwiz on the latest android version (4.2.2) but NO if you're an aosp guy or if you can handle waiting for the new features to be released on the GS3.

S4 is too much like the note 2.
Only plus for me is the quad core.

I'll be upgrading to an S4, without replacing my existing S3 phone.
Outside the 1080P display, the TV remote and some biometric sensors, I'll have the same phone!
Samsung has already been quoted as releasing the software apps that do not require specific S4 hardware for the S3 and Note II. Look for it later this year.
Well if you're getting it for development don't count on many also Roms as cm team have already mentioned that they are not supporting the gs4. :/

Hey everyone. I am just getting into development and am looking for some experience in the field. I know it is not easy, but, if someone is not already working on this, would anyone like to join me in an attempt to port a touchwiz android 4.2.1 ROM from the international GS3 to all carrier variant GS3s? If so, respond here, or PM me. I am really interested in getting the ball rolling on this as the new touchwiz features intrigue me, but as a high school student I have no money for a galaxy s4.
Thanks for your interest.

I don't even think its possible to port from international..
I mean in general is it, but its completely rewriting everything from scratch since US and International is completely different hardware... That's why no one has done it.
Anyone feel free to correct me but OP, if you want to really accomplish this, you have a LONG way to work. Its easier to cook your own TW ROM

I was just wondering, because it has all of the new touchwiz functionality from the galaxy s4 (minus some of the hardware dependent stuff) so it just seemed like a cool idea. Maybe I can just get the cam, gallery, and some other stuff to work with our current touchwiz/android version.

That's if they even release TW source code... Which they probably wont since its closed sourse... The only hope is waiting for the US variant, but even with the US variant, its still closed. This is something extreme lol most elite devs won't even mess with TW since no code makes it extremely difficult... But we'll have to wait and see.

Yeah, It is rather annoying. But is TW being closed source a new thing? Because if I remember correctly, some, if not all, of the Galaxy S3 TW versions were available open source.

The only source Samsung releases consist of kernel source code and various stock stuff. None of the stuff they release is for TW...
Touchwiz is and always has been closed source. If code was released for TW those featured would of already been implemented to AOSP based roms.

Hey i was just wondering if the new 4.2.2 touchwiz will be ported to the s3 from the s4? Because i know im not the only one hoping for the new touchwiz to come to the s3.
I would think it's the same as porting the s3 international firmware to the us variant. Different hardware, different set up. It'll probably brick your phone.

Oh wow really? So its not the same as like Sense on the HTCs when they were really only htcs getting newer sense roms?
Its not just the launcher its boot loaders, framework, kernels, and its all built for an 8 core exynos processer and we have a dual core Qualcomm
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda premium
It'll never happen unless Samsung releases Touchwiz source code to work with. If they would to release it I would be very possible for that to happen, even have TW on non Samsung devices..
HTC Sense is just a skin to be honest (with the exception of the new Blink feed on HTC ONE) with a couple of fancy widgets that rely on that skin.
Sense was partially ported to a couple devices back in the day due to the fact that it is almost just a skin. (Any one can feel free to correct me on this one )
Galaxy S4's Touchwiz, not only is it a skin but the gestures and fancy thing the S4 has rely heavily on TW framework.
With out that TW source to be released we're out of luck

I sure hope att/sammy didn't build all that for the exynos octa. Would brick there qualcom quad cpu phones.

Only a small portion of the S4s are gonna be running the exynos processor. Many will have the next iteration of Qualcomm's snapdragon. It will still be nearly if not entirely impossible to get the S4's firmware running on the S3. We already have 4.2.2 on the S3 though. Just gotta get on a custom ROM.

Custom TW Rom are built using the original TW firmware, with features added to them.
IF we had TW source code, we'd have the features and apps like TW camera on AOSP based roms....
