Ok guys, so I saw somewhere around here, a while back I think that Sprint changed some of it's fine print in the contract...Soooo, no one flame me or anything, but does anyone have any info on this? Thinking of jumping ship to verizon. I have 4 lines right now and pay around $176 a month and all the lines are still under contract for a while. I'm not set on going to verizon, but would just like to get some ideas....Thanks for any input....yes...I'm thinking about getting the iphone
edit: I think I found something...This was just on my latest bill, I did some research and any change to the previous contract is a breach and you have 30 days to get out of your contract. Now, you can get out of your contract and still keep your service, just not be tied down to a fricken contract! Here is what was on my last bill:
Directory Assistance 411 Increase
Effective 3/1/11, the domestic Directory Assistance 411 base charge will increase to $1.99 per call.
Please let me know if I am wrong, but when I worked for Verizon this is the way it was for them too.

Thanks, I'm sure a few people are interested in getting out...Have you called Sprint about it yet? Sometimes they're really helpful to me and sometimes they straight up lie to my face and say they gave me a $50 credit and I'll call back a few days later to see where it is and they have "no idea" and then wont give it to me...I guess I was a little let down after this ****ty ass "announcement" they made tonight...I've been with 'em for 8 years and really don't want to switch, but it's starting to look like that.
Nothing will get you out of the ETF right now, Sprint has been really careful with their changes lately. The Premium Data fee, Sprint Premier, 411 charges - none of those are a change to your current contract. The only way out is if you roam too much and they kick you off the network.

Same here, some days I can't reach my wife if she's at home because the phone won't ring and my texts won't go through for a while. I tried to talk to Sprint about an Airave but they argued with me and said I'm in an "excellent coverage area" and told me no, even after contacting Executive Services. That was the last straw for me.
Change your PRL to a VZW PRL and start hitting them HARD for data. According to the terms of service, they can give you the boot for anything over 300 megs per month or more than 50% of all data as roaming data. If you're rooted on all the phones, do them all at the same time and then Sprint will want you all dead.

I was doing some reading on and i read that if sprint can't cover you in a place they don't offer service you can complain and they will waive the ETF, for example tell them you are being relocated to somewhere overseas where they don't offer any type of service, if they can't accomadte you they will let you out, i haven't tried this soooo i can't confirm

I called and got an Airave for free. What you have to do is set up a consistent series of calls with them. It took me three calls but I got it. Then again, I had a legitimate issue.
Essentially, call every time there is an issue. Write down the time it happens, what happened, and where you were. Call sprint and tell them what the issue is. They may transfer to you an "advanced" tech department. Or, they may tell you to come in to the store to have your phone checked out.
As we all know, it most likely isn't your phone because it is happening on multiple lines. Decline going to a store. Insist on speaking to the advanced tech department. Tell them your problem and they will do something on their end. Wait until that "resolves" (which usually it doesn't because the coverage is strong in that area). Then call back again and complain. Try to get transferred to retentions and see if you can get one.
yep
They would not let me out of the ETF but I was able to get a free airave myself. w00t! But I would still like to cancel and switch to BOOST mobile.
Pro's for T-Mobile Galaxy S2:
Generally better data speeds
Generally cheaper plan
GSM, so can use internationally
True Android-native infrastructure tethering after root
No Loss of Service (LOS), a problem afflicting Sprint GS2
No Sound Pool bug, a problem that crashes games afflicting all Exynos GS2
NFC
Wifi calling
USB Host (USB on the go)
Noise cancellation microphone
Con's for T-Mobile Galaxy S2:
Generally less coverage around the country (especially on non-roaming prepaid plans)
Screen suffers from blotches on low-brightness
Slightly slower CPU/GPU
Worse front-facing camera
Runs hotter
Less dev support
No notification LED
Capped data that throttles after plan limits
Edit: This thread was originally about me considering switching from a Sprint GS2 to a T-Mobile GS2. I've now done so, but figured since I drew up such a comprehensive list of differences, might as well keep it around for anyone else that might be curious

What is LOS? Line of Sight? Left over soup?
I just switched over from Sprint as well. Their 3G has been totally pathetic and borderline unusable for the last 6 months. My T-Mobile speeds are 10+ times faster. I don't know what the SERO plan is, but T-Mobile doesn't have free mobile to mobile calling like Sprint. They only give you free calling from T-Mobile to T-Mobile and their nights and weekends are more restrictive than Sprint.

Loss of Service. It's a problem that comes from the fact that Samsung kind of sucks at making CDMA modems. Sometimes the Sprint GS2 will just lose cell service, and it won't come back until you reboot. I haven't gotten bit by it yet, but it's widespread enough that I feel it's just a matter of time.
The Sprint speeds drive me nuts. In the middle of Manhattan, I see download speeds on 3G of as low as 100kbps on Speedtest.
I'd be going to the T-Mobile $30 prepaid 5GB 100 minute plan, so I wouldn't get any nights and weekends or mobile to mobile I think. The plan's a big downgrade from the numbers I had on Sprint, but the speed improvements and lower monthly fee would balance it out for me. Plus, talking is probably the feature I use least on my phone.

If your paying $79.99 for sprint tmobile has the same plan for $79.99 with contract 2 gig cab though. if you want 5 gig cap its $89.99. 10 gig cap is $99.99
All those plans have unlimted minutes and texting.

Classic or Value if you don't get subsidize it is much cheaper.
For me:
1. Sprint Galaxy S II phones do suffer from loss of signal. I have noticed this on both Sprint Galaxy S II phone I have. Very very annoying.
2. T-Mobile's version suffers from poor display.
3. T-Mobile's version suffers from poor front facing camera.
Maybe all of these problems can be fixed with a software update. And Samsung will take the time to make this happen. There are no assurances however.
For its part, Sprint has acknowledged the loss of signal problem and has promised a fix. T-Mobile has not yet acknowledged problems with their unit.

I'm on a value plan. 99 a month for 2 lines. And I'm in an excellent coverage area. But, 2 gigs is definitely not enough. I blew through half of that on Friday listening to Google music beta

Has anyone tried USB on the go to plug in a USB stick on the T-Mobile GS2?
They disabled it on the Sprint version for some reason, and am wondering if this is another pro I could add to the list.
Another question that I thought of.
Has anyone experienced lots of random crashing to home screen while playing games? Both the Sprint and international Galaxy S2 suffer from a bug in their sound system that causes certain games to crash all the time. If the T-Mobile one doesn't do that, it'd be a huge advantage.
Former sprint to tmo customer.
as a former sprint customer recently switched over to T Mobile in the NorCal area...
SWITCH TO TMOBILE.
holy ****. i ing hate sprint. i got the evo 3d from them, and right out of the box the first unit was bunk. started power cycling directly AFTER i set everything up and linked my contacts. The 3vo being my first android phone, i didn't know that a randomly restarting phone meant LEMONLEMONLEMON so i hung onto it for a couple days, hoping the issue would fix itself or something.
Called IN ADVANCE when the phone first began having issues to talk to the guy who sold me the phone. Brought it in a week after, after trying everything someone rational would, i.e. battery pull, factory reset, etc. and when i brought the device in i was told by the associate, (yes this is a quote) that he couldn't exchange it but that he could do a "hard hard reset" for me, (after i explained to him it had already been reset every way possible) and send me on my way.
Bear in mind sprint store is 35 minutes away in the next town over, and so this is now taken 2 hours of driving, and still no fully functional phone.
i get home, set everything up again, and boom. Literally as i drag the last icon into place it starts power cycling again.
i call corporate at this point to see if i can ensure an actual replacement on my next trip. i get a vague "probably-ish." sorta answer from them.
when i arrive the next day, there's an associate who was obviously told to expect me as he becomes instantly friendly when i tell him my name and he reads some memo on his screen. I give him my phone, and he hands me the power cord and charger, winking at me and goes "this is for your wasted time. keep it, as a thirty dollar value"
now, like all of you, i'm aware a usb cord and adapter is not worth 30 dollars. However, i was appreciative of the gesture, and i know that sprint really will try to charge you 30 bucks for one of those cords.
After a little wait i'm told the technician got my phone in front of him, and it power cycled in his face. so they replaced it. (finally)
as i'm checking out, back with the original associate who i got the dude phone from 2 weeks before, he's being SUPER surly. Won't look me in the eyes or answer any of the questions i have with more than a grunt or mumble. As he's switching out the new phone with the old, he takes the new charger cable and tosses it in the old box and slides it away from me.
i interrupt him and say "hey, the guy i checked in with said i could keep that."
not even bothering to look up, he shrugs, PULLS IT OUT OF MY HAND, tosses it into the box and closes it and says "nope."
i'm a bit taken aback at this point. incredulously i say, "i was told i would be given that for my wasted time. i was already told that i could have that."
to which he says, still not looking up "htc policy we return em."
at this pont, i'm just ing done dealing with this dude. So i just ask him where the other associate is, so i can work it out with him instead, to which he replies "he went to lunch."
"well...when will he be back"
"dunno."
at that point i walked out. I called about the issue and was given a run around.
anyways. thats ONE of my stories with sprint, in the ing 3 months i was with them. i have MANY MANY more. and their corporate branch is just as bad as the stores, i've been told so many contradicting things by sprint associates on the phone that i have literally found myself saying to them in barely hidden anger "HOW CAN ONE OF YOU TELL ME ONE THING AND THEN THE NEXT GUY AFTER THE TRANSFER SAYS THE OPPOSITE?! are you people even working for the same company?!"
anyways, i've had t-mobile since the release of the galaxy s2, and called in several times to change my features and they have been nothing but friendly informative and helpful. I've heard a bunch of **** talked about how the Tmo version of the GS2 is inferior to the others, but i have faith in the good people on these forums to correct most of those inferiorities which i believe are mostly software issues arising from the Tmo version having a different processor than the other versions.
so yeah sorry for the ungodly long post, but i am another sprint customer recently gone to tmobile and just wanted to share a little bit of my experience. here's a short list of ADDITIONAL pros, and the cons.
PROS.
1. WAY faster data, at least in my area. Went from CRAWLING 3g, and no 4g to being able to torrent via my tether when my cable went out. Achieving 9mbps according to speedtest app, never tested on sprint, but it was browsing speeds, AT BEST. took youtube videos AGES to load. Tmo 4g is about half the speed of my home wifi connection, which is impressive.
2. PRO/CON: better service in populated areas, but service does cut out earlier whenever you drive out into middle of nowhere parts. Also, much more continuity between service and data connection. With sprint, lots of service. Mobile data cuts out LOTS. Tmo data pretty much works until you have no service whatsoever, or at least close to that point.
CONS.
1. QUALCOMM processor instead of the one samsung meant for this device. LOTS of info about what this means as far as detrimental effects on device performance ALL OVER this particular forum.
2. Screen Issues...also, look in this forum.
3. No truly unlimited data plan (best you can get is 5 gb then down to EDGE speeds...which suck.)
So I just broke my contract with T-Mobile because I was fed up with them and came over to Sprint. The nice people at the store promised me that I would have service and WiMax at home and at work, but sadly it is not looking great right now.
At home the phone is roaming the whole time, which is ridiculous because that means I am limited to 300mb of data a month and it is slow data at that. At work I have the same problem and don't even get roaming data.
So I was wondering what the recommendation would be here. I've rooted my e4gt but have not torched the modem yet. Is it worth while to try to flash a different modem (EK02 maybe) and see if that helps, knowing that I will not be able to flash back to EG30? Will flashing a different modem be any sort of problem if I try to return the phone?
Or am I completely screwed and have to go crawling back to T-mo?
Thanks,
Actually if you are roaming at home all of the time, Sprint will probably give you a free Airrave. It acts as a mini tower.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
yeah. I've heard that, and its cute. But there is a bigger problem of work, which is where I spend most of my day, and actually class (where I also have only roaming). Actually I have roaming inside almost all buildings even those they are supposed to have excellent service there. Basically, the service all over is starting to really bother me, and if I have to put up with roaming forever I may just have to leave Sprint. The question is more of a, will playing with radios/modems help or will it actually hurt me when I have to return the device?

LOL. If you can find a Sprint employee who is savvy enough to even know what a radio/modem is chances are he will have all the sympathy in the world for you.
That said, if you plan on keeping the device I would not **** with the modem. It's worth a shot, but, that won't help your 4G woes. You can tweak your signal level connect threshold and release timers, but, that'll won't help you get a signal you currently can't get at all...it'll only help you keep a signal you can usually get.
If you are in the 14 day window abort abort abort. You've given it a valiant effort, and that is to be applauded. Sprint service is amazing in some places and almost nonexistent in others. If your only problem is 4G, well, sorry...the tiny little slice of spectrum allotted to Sprint/Clear's WiMax sucks. That will never get better. I gave up on it...thankfully the 3G is getting better every day around here. I thought about going Vzn or Tmob, but, I use too much data for that to be affordable. Especially if it's that much faster. It would get that much more expensive and I'd get that much more screwed that much harder that much sooner.
Pick your service provider first--based on the service you want and the service they have at the prices they provide. Pick your device secondarily.
(I also think the AirRave is weak sauce)
You did your best, you tried your hardest. You can't win every one.
Yeah Thanks. I am in kind of a bind now though. I paid $800 to break my contract with Tmo because Amazon was giving away 1cent phones which would save me the same 800 on 4 lines. Now that sprint fell though, and verizon's phone selection blows I feel like I just wasted $800...

A new modem can improve coverage consistency, but it is not likely to give your coverage where coverage did not exist previously, that requires new towers.

I just wanted to vent real quick. because I am so frustrated with the service that I get.. or lack there of.. where I currently live. okay my boyfriend at first had some generic boost mobile phone. never once did he have an issue with sending a text or making a call. always had good service with 4 bars. which made me feel pretty stupid. since I had a nice expensive phone and he had a cheap generic 1.. So
at first I had a samsung moment. I did a bunch of stuff to it.. really wasn't working like it probly should have. so I thought that might be my problem. so in the middle of november I decided to upgrade my phone. got me a samsung galaxy s 2 epic 4 g touch. from sprint. I was so excited to bring it home. got me a 4 g phone thinkin that I'm finally gonna get good service. & once again I was completely wrong. I guess it has a little bit to do with where I live. but evwet time I've ever called sprint with an issue. they tell me that I should have great service at my house. I don't know if they're all morons over there or something. but they always tell me that I should have good service.
it is so frustrating. you don't understand how long I have to sit here sometimes.. waiting for it to send a text. and it failed and I send it over again and it fails and I send it over again. over and over and over. oro I try to make call. and it if I finally get to make a call.. right in the middle of my call it drops it. I'm so lucky if I ever have 1 bar. or if my 3g is actually lit up with at least 1 bar. never got to experience my 4 g yet. cos I can't even get 3 g. what make things worsE is that right now we don't have internet phone or cable. so no wifi for me either.
we pay so much a month for our bill n n I can't even get a decent signal ever. just the other day I was trying to send a text and I swear to you I tried to send it 74x and every single time it failed. I wanted to throw my phone so bad. but then I thought it's a little too expensive to do that!!
I'm looking at my signal bar right now my 3g was lit up for probly about 3 seconds with only 1 bar. now I have 2 bars but 3g is not lit up. which is usually what I have to deal with all day. but included in the fun is when I get to look at my signal and I have no service at all. and I take my phone & i walk all around the house. trying to get my service back. 2 people that come over & if they don't know me or don't know my issue with my phone.. they probably would think I was insane. cuz I spend half my day holding my phone in the air walking around in circles. hoping I can get 1 bar.
I really have no idea anything I just said . I'm sure it's so confusing. but I'm just fed up with this crap. I get this expensive phone.. thinkin I'm going to have the greatest service ever. and I was so wrong and I don't understand. I just don't get why they keep telling me I should have a great service where I live and yet I haven't yet. I had my phone over 2 months now im have not yet to be able to experience the 4 g speeds. why would someone who had a generic boost mobile phone get way better service than I do? it's embarrassing and it's the wrong and it's humiliating. and I just don't know what to do. we have 3 phones on our sprint account. we have the unlimited data package whatever. my phone is basically the only 1 that need the data package. and our bill is over 200 dollars a month. I don't know what else to try I don't know what else to do.
my boyfriend decided to trade his boost mobile phone in for an android phone. he got samsung galaxy precedent. 45 dollars a month for unlimited everything. he doesn't have a perfect signal usually only 2 bars. but he had no problem making a call send a text using the internet. so it doesn't make sense to me.
what if there was an emergency? it would take me 10 minutes just to make a call..
I give up I quit I'm done. I could go on forever complaining about this. but I'll just shut up. sorry guys I just had to vent for a few.
Have you tried installing a custom ROM\Kernel\Modem combo? It's not a magical fix but it definitely improved things quite a bit for me as far as signal strength and 3G reception goes.
Wow, that is a lot of venting.....
First, I am sure it is not the phones fault but just your location. If you look at a map where my house is I should get really good service but there is a small section near me that just does not. I had no problem gettingan Airave for free from Sprint which is a total lifesaver.
Unfortunetly you need to have an internet connection to use it so based on what you wrote it really would not help you any. Only advice I would have is switch carriers because it is not an E4GT issue.

I got the AirRave too, worked like a charm, then decided to act as a DHCP server... killed the internet for everything, including my IP phone. Need to call them about that.
But what I wanted say about the OP's situation is that it was same here. Problem is my roof has aluminum foil in the insulation. If I just step out onto the porch or in the driveway I get very good reception... even 4G. I'm on the MoPho, but same deal. If you can step right outside your house, then you probably have a similar issue. Fix your internet and get the AirRave.
I can understand your frustration, I once had a similar issue with service in the home. I could literally step outside and be fine, but would be so in and out when I'm inside. As others have said, an Airave from Sprint would likely solve the issue.
What an Airave does is it is like a mini cell tower, inside your home. It grabs onto a Sprint signal, and basically amplifies it and provides a stronger signal throughout your house. However, in order to install an Airave, you need to have your home internet connection to hook it up. I installed mine along with our computers and home WiFi network. After doing that, everything has been great, I get good signal strength in the home, and when I leave it switches and I still get good service.
Sprint will provide you an Airave for free if you complain for a little bit, but you can do that once you get your home internet back up and running. Hope things improve.
There are some cell sites that need to be looked at and checked out by service technicians. If you keep complaining to Sprint and telling them about your situation and that the cell site that covers your house needs to be checked out by a tech, then maybe they will eventually do something. There's a place in my city that I go bowling once a week and the cell site is painfully slow.
Like it was suggested, we don't know what software version you have or what version modem software you have. Flashing the phone and modem software to a more current version might help. Both virgin and boost are on Sprint's network.
The airrave that someone spoke of might help too. Someone posted how they got one for no cost.

The best thing I can think of is, when you do get internet service, like mentioned above, get an Airave. In the meantime though, google Roam Control, it's an app that's no longer on the market but does exactly what it sounds like (assuming you have free roaming data, this would be a perfect solution). There was a post in the apps not too long ago talking about it if I'm not mistaken. Good luck!

I have an airrave I used about a year ago on Sprint but no longer have a need for if anyone is interested. You just have to call Sprint and have it added to your account.
Airwave best way to go ...its free and so is the service...But since then I rooted the phone I'm on Calks Rom 2.81 and the Gunslinger Kernel...Overclocked at 1.6...Runs like a charm...No dropped calls excellent 3G service...I can't be more pleased...But if you're not gonna root Sprints Customer Service will hook u up with the Airwave...6 bars and no LOS...You'll be happy with that 2...

Airave isn't free but if she knows how to talk her way into getting one then she can get it for free. Just make sure you don't pay for it and stress the fact that you've been calling in multiple times with no resolve.
Hope it gets fixed soon.

I think anyone who writes that much in 1 post deserves some kind of pity...I think I skipped over every other sentence so I could make it to the end...
Really the bottom line is the issue here has nothing to do with the phone.
Sorry ...thats right but it was free with a sob story for CS ...And she surely has one...I had dropped calls and one bar like I was livin in a WW2 Bunker...Airwave is $129 to purchase and $4.99 for the Service...But I've never had a problem with Sprint CS ...I've been a customer for 10 years...and the sob story always works...But like I said with my Phone bein the way it is right now I really don't need it...

Wow.. I'm so happy u guys responded! Didn't really think anyone would even read my very short post.. Ha ha. It actually took me 45 minutes to read your replay. That's about how long it took for the pages to load. Kinda ridiculous.
As for the Airave thingy.. I called them a couple times to find out info & was told it was over $100 some dollars to purchase and then I would be charged a monthly fee. Which I would not be willing to pay for. Our bill is over $200 a month as it is.. So can't afford nothing else.
& as for kernels/roms, modems.. & what not.. I have no clue what I have on my phone currently.. So I'll just tell u what it says in my "about phone" section..

Yes I am rooted. My friend rooted it for me, so I don't know what he put on it. But device was horrible still even before it was rooted so I can't blame my friend.
Thanks for all the advice and info.. I'm not sure what to try next.. Thanks Guys!

Keep tryin different CS Reps...You'll get one...Tell them you can't call for Pizza down the street...Calls are droppin left and right and tell them you got somebody in the Hospital and u need it to work from your House for phone calls from the Docs and Hospital...Tell them your a loyal Sprint Customer and can't afford to buy the Air Wave and pay the monthly service...Believe me at the time this was a true situation for me with My Wife in the Hospital...I called two different Reps within a half hour and the second one hooked me up...Its definitely worth a shot...
As far as roms rooting and the rest ...theres a wealth of information on here ...Just look around and you'll find what your're lookin for for your phone and more than enuff people to help ya out...
Download "Text plus" from the market.. If your signal is weak, you should be able to text from that app. Sometimes I have no bars and I get the "message not sent"... I send it through "text plus" and it goes through ever time! And I'm waaaaaaaay out in the boondox! Mississippi....

SMS and mms are sent through the phone connection (bars cdma) and the internet rides on the evdo (1x 3g 4g). An app I stumbled across that I use sometimes is called fresh network. I'm not completely sure exactly what it does but lots of people are giving it 5 star reviews and raving about it. Running it cycles the modem off then on again. I don't know what it does under the hood.
Gotta say I feel crappy service pain. My house is across the street from a tower and three blocks from 4g coverage, and I get no coverage in my houseor on my street.
Sprint sent rave for free, but it butchered my service....sending texts multiple times, dropped calls, etc. Probably had more to do with ip issue than rave, but still problematic.

Looking at your About Phone, you're using a leaked modem (EL26), which is actually what I'm using, however every phone is different, and by that I mean maybe an older or newer modem would work for you.
Also, you're running an EG30 kernel with an EK02 ROM. In simpler words, you might just be using a combination that your phone doesn't like for one reason or the other.
I suggest putting some time into learning what all these things are, if not ask your friend to unroot it for you and bring it back to stock (or if he actually knows what hes doing) to install each official update (EG30, EK02, EL29) and run SpeedTest's to see which works better on your phone.
Wish I could explain more, but it would be nevet ending. Honestly just read the stickies in the Epic 4G Touch Development forum and you ahould be able to learn quickly.
How is Verizon service in your area?
my suggestion would be for you to upload a custom PRL to your phone and roam on the Verizon network which i cant guarantee better reception but it wont hurt to try and as long as you are not using crazy amounts of data sprint wont bother you.
read this thread and use prl 00001.prl its the best one for me but you might have better lck with the other ones.

I just recieved my airwave in the mail a few days ago, i called this number *866-556-7310* told them i couldnt send/recieve calls or texts in my place. They asked how long has this been happening to you, i replied since i started with sprint 4 years ago, *crickets* they apologized and sent me an airwave for free no monthly service charge or cost of the item.
Best luck to you. shouldnt be much longer till your seeing max bars and able to take a crap across the house from the airwave, while watching HQ youtubes on 3g
OK I have to ask.
I have HORRIBLE 3G speeds where I live. I'm lucky to see 20~30kbps on a speed test, inside or out. I try it all over the city, it's the same everywhere. I've tried different modems, Roms, kernels, nothing helps.
Other Sprint users tell me the same thing.
We have 4G here but I'm about a mile too far away from the towers to use it on a daily basis and it seems like everything I do is in the opposite direction as the 4G so I maybe get to use 4G like once or twice a month. 4G rocks, I get 20~25mbit, again 3G sucks. Most of the time it simply does not even work. I get errors about no network connection etc.
So anyway my buddy just got an AT&T Skyrocket (same phone basically) as our Epic Touch and he showed me a speed test on 3G as it was almost 3mbit.
He said he got out of his Sprint by using this thread, flashing the 00001 PRL file, installing ROAM Control and slamming torrents. He said after about 15 days of letting it run non stock, Sprint contacted him saying he had 30 days to find a new carrier, they were canceling his contract.
He claims he was just out, he had to pay his final bill, NO ETF, and his ESN is clean so he was going to sell his Galaxy on eBay.
Is this true or is he BS'ing me?
I'm REALLY sick of Sprint. What is the point of unlimited date if it NEVER [email protected]#[email protected]#
On a side note, I get eh, 700~800kbps when I ROAM to Verizon.

Yes you can do that. The will normally let you out ETF free but they are not obligated to.
On a side note, people who do this are driving up prices for the rest of us.
Well, let me start off by respectfully saying that I'm not sure I care about the prices being driven up and let me explain why.
I'm not just some new Sprint customer who showed up and now something else it out I want on another network. I've been a Sprint customer for over 10 years, actually it will be 11 years in June and frankly Sprints service as gone to hell. My biggest complaint is the data.
My Samsung Instinct and my Palm Pre actually worked GREAT! About the time I got my EVO, things started to go down hill.
I complained about my EVO and it's crappy battery life and speed and they actually upgraded me to the Epic Touch when it first came out and it's not any better from a speed stand point. Sprint advertises this "Unlimited" network but I barely get 15~30 Kbps anywhere in a 50 mile area and it's not just me. First off, I work in the technologies department for my local school district. Our work issued phones are Sprint iPhones. We also have some Android stuff and ALL of them suck. Pretty much everyone but myself also has a AT&T iPhone too and the speed difference is unbelievable. What I mean by that is that a few of my co-workers actually have TWO iPhones, Sprint (work phones) and AT&T (personal phones) and EVERY one of them says the same thing, there is no comparison between the two for 3G data, AT&T blows Sprint out of the water.
One of the guys just gt the Skyrocket and I can't get over how much faster the 3G is then Sprint. The LTE is amazing too.
I look this stuff and I wonder what the hell happened to Sprint?
I can see why they are able to keep the unlimited data, its so freaking slow no ones using much! Just annoys me. I feel like its time to move on and like I said, I've been a loyal customer for over 10 years, I almost hate to start over.
If the problem is your whole city/town and not just your house, why not look up the thread about getting a free airrave, and instead of asking for an airrave, ask to be released from your contract, as your phone is just going to roam all the time costing them money anyways. The number in that thread (in e4gt general I think) is account services or whatever their euphemism is for retentions. They may just let you out if you've been such a good customer... you can always come back if the Network Vision pans out in your area... its worth a shot... if that fails, you have no choice but to roam like hell.
I live in a pretty big city and we do have 4G here but unfortunately, that is only downtown which really does me no good.
The 3G is almost non-working as I said. Now I work about 30 miles from where I live which is another decent city, not a big one but a well known one and the 3G issues are the same there too.
As I said, pretty much everyone who works in our technology department has the same opinion of Sprint's 3G, it simply doesn't work as it should. They all prefer their AT&T phones so it's not just me having issues.
I'll have to call them tonight. I get GREAT signal. Almost full bars but the data just won't perform. We were out a couple weeks ago for example, I wanted to look up a phone number and some movie times, we had to fine a Panra Breads and use there Wi-Fi to get anything to load. Dolphin and my stock browser just basically did nothing. I was watching the pages load like I was on 14.4 dial up.
As I said, the phone aspect is fine, should I tell them I'm force roaming to make a point? I really want to tell them how much of an issue this data crap is and WHY I'm forcing my phone to roam and that I intend to keep it on Verizon unless they let me go or fix it, which I know they can't fix it but I don't want that to cause more issues with them.
Thoughts?
Can anyone who works for Sprint weigh in here? This is ridiculous. Again, it's not just me or my phone, it's everyone in my area who I know uses Sprint and we are just some random phone morons who wandered into Best Buy and bought a cool looking phone. We are all technology professionals who use and test mobile devices etc, CCNP's, Apple techs, database engineers etc.
I know my way around a phone, so do the people I work with. We can't all be wrong here.
My friend did this and was not charged the etf. His brother decided to try it as well and was not able to get them to waive the etf. So in my opinion you have a 50/50 chance of having to pay the etf.

Sorry to revive an old thread but I'm also attempting to do this for my two lines with Sprint.
So you're saying that they can cancel your service and STILL charge you ETF???

Yes in the newer contracts there is a clause that excessive roaming is in breach of the contract. IIRC, don't quote me on that though, you should check it over yourself to be safe first.
Hmm, interesting. I signed up on December 2011, I don't know if that counts as new. I will check out my contract and report back, might help others
Thanks! :good:
