Hi,
I recently rooted my KF and downloaded and installed a custom CM9 ROM on it...
But its just too heavy for my KF (it lags and hangs and sometimes just doesnt respond whatsoever). So I am deciding to put the Stock ROM back on my Kindle Fire.
Now I know there are tuts online like this one:
Code:
ughh.. no outside links
but I was wondering, wont just restoring from the file I backed up from TWRP put it back on 6.3??
Also I dont care if its rooted or unrooted, so a simple answer would be enough..
Also if you know any other way to put that stock ROM in there, please let me know. A step-by-step answer would be appreciated!
P.S: I know I can download the stock rom from here:
Code:
sorry!
Thanks
Hello,
I will do my best to answer your questions... OK yes you can restore a backup to get back to 6.3... the only other way is to download stock from amazon and flash it in recovery.. doing the latter will wipe everything including your root and TWRP/Clockwork..

Change the file extension to zip first.

Hi!
I will have to send my Kindle back since it has a hardware issue. What is the smoothest way to reset it completely i.e including removing TWRP2 and the custom bootloader.
I found a quite outdated thread in which it seemed like you could just flash the original Kindle image, will that work? Also, I do have a NAND-backup, if I restore the device to this backup will it also restore the bootloader and remove TWRP?
Thanks in advance!

Worked perfectly, had a hard time finding the stock software though. While looked for it I did I find a thread that discussed the matter further. As it turns out you could get it from Amazons site, duh

The downloaded file is a bin file. After downloading I copied that to root of SD card (Just like any other ROM), however TWRP won't see that file when I boot KF in Recovery.
You have to rename the .bin to .zip before moving it to your sdcard
just be careful with how you wipe. I wiped too much once and ended up having to get a factory cable to fix my kindle.

Correct... factory reset,cashe,dalvik.. that's it DO NOT WIPE SDCARD OR SYSTEM.
This looks like exactly what I am after as I need to send my Kindle back to Amazon and I'm hoping they won't notice I've rooted etc Will this be enough? I rooted using KFU and subsequently did a factory reset but I still need to get rid of TWRP right? I have found the fastboot command for wiping the recovery partition but is there nothing stock in there?

It'll work. You don't need to try to wipe recovery or the bootloader yourself, and you shouldn't, either.
Just follow the steps there, and be particularly wary of step 3. If you don't wipe everything properly, you'll probably end up with a soft brick.
The moment the stock update.zip is installed and you reboot, the KF will pretty much be the same as brand new.
Thanks! Went through real smooth and didn't even get the error it mentions.

What did you wipe
Sent from my Kindle Fire using xda premium
if you find something I posted helpful please thank me
I just followed the instructions on that guide, wiping the two caches and then doing a factory restore. The only other thing I did was to delete a TWRP folder that was leftover.
I currently rooted my samsung note 2 n7100 using samsung note 2 toolkit, now i installed twrp recovery. now i want to swap it to cmd? can anyone shed some info about this.
Another thing does nandroid backup backup my stock current rom? so in the future i can return to being stock? many thanks
You shoukd be able to just install cwm through rom manager. And I believe you can backup stock after rooting and installing recovery. You can then restore the backup and use the toolbox to unroot.

Rom Manager is not compatible with the Note 2 yet afaik, just flash CWM 6.1.0.5 with TWRP, https://hotfile.com/dl/176068447/563747c/cwm6-recovery-n7100-121014.zip.htmland and you`re fine.

What the hell is cmd? I think you mean CWM, and you flash it the same way you flash anything. You managed to flash TWRP, after all.

sorry about that then its CWM,
I used samsung note 2 toolkit to root and install CWM, can I use that again even though im not going to root my device? and just flash CWM? thanks
You can use the Toolkit again yes.
Out of interest, why do you want a custom recovery but no root?

Everything works the same with twrp as cwm. You still wipe and flash the exact same way. It may just be my personal preference but I find twrp much "more effective' I guess is how I woukd describe it. Seems to give me cleaner wipes and better flashes. Same with backup and restoring nandroids. Twrp just seems to give me cleaner smoother running roms after flash.

Download GooManager from the Play Store, and run twrp recovery set up and make sure you are on the latest updated recovery. Not only you want it updated but I seem to have read that recoveries can get corrupted. Also make sure you have enough storage space in the area it is trying to create te backup.

when u flash with MI FLASH SW, you have the option to wipe all your data, if you do that, make a backup first, the phone should be fine
