Friends,
I am wondering if anyone has heard of emulating a Linux operating system locally on Windows Mobile (CE)? Something like PocketDOS but running a basic Linux operating system instead of DOS? I read about Bochs (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=291899), which may boot a Linux image, but from I've read Bochs doesn't work too well with Windows Mobile on the Rhodium?
I know I can use Putty (SSH) or VNC and such for remote Linux access, but the goal here is to get some basic version of Linux running locally. I'm not sure Haret's Android port is ready for prime time yet (from what I've read)
Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks for your response, but the idea at this point is to run Linux emulated, not native in Haret. I would love to run it Linux native using something like Android but unfortunately at this point Android doesn't look to be stable enough on the Rhodium platform for full-time 'production use'.
Any thoughts?
Hallo,
I have the question, if VB (not the sdk, only a program) could run on WM 6.5? I know there is a eMbedded runtime, to use VB, but only for the Version WM 3 ... Does anybody know, if VB program run also with these eMbedded runtime and WM 6.5?
Thanks und regards,
Flo
If the program has been written in VB .NET Compact Framework (Visual Studio 2002 onwards), then it should run on your device, without the need for a runtime, as the .NET CF is the 'runtime' for the program. All mobile devices have one version of .NET CF installed in rom on the device. Later versions can be installed. Even if the program was written for an earlier version of .NET CF than that on your device, if the device can JIT compile it successfully against the version installed then it will run. If serious differences exist between the methods used in the program's CF version and the device, then it will report that you will need a later version installing.
The moral of the story here, is keep your app as 'simple' as possible, and it increases the range of devices on which it will run.
A 'runtime' version of VB was used in Embedded Tools Version 3.0 (VB and EVC 3.0), before EVC 4.0 replaced it. It is no longer on Microsoft's website but other copies of it exist on the web if you search for it.
There is no reason why a program written in Embedded Tools 3.0 should not run on WinMo 6.5, though some of the dll 'import' definitions may be getting a bit long in the tooth. Like a lot of previous development environments, it's just been dumped at the side of the road.
I have a couple old games that I used with my old HP Ipaq. Namely Exit Nights written for Windows CE 5. Is there a way to port it to Android, or a CE emulator for windows 7?
I can send the old cab file if anyone wants to look at it.
Thanks,
Hello everybody,
I am working in a german company where we're still using old iPAQs (iPAQ PE2030) with Windows Mobile 2002 because the application doesn't work on Windows Mobile 2003 or higher.
Now I'm looking for an emulator or an emulator-image for WM2002 for the Microsoft Device Emulator. I can't find any Image of PPC2002 on Google and I hope maybe to find the image here.
It would be nice if there's a solution to get it work, because a reprogram of it will cost thousands of euros.
Thanks in advance,
Patrick
Have a look at post #2 in here.

Embedded Visual Tools 3.0 (C++ and VB) came with an emulator of sorts for WM 2002 SE, which installs with the compiler. It is not a true emulator as such, like those run by Device Emulator Manager, but it is as near as you are going to get. The compilers create special x86 emulator executable versions that the emulator can run, and you can debug.
When you are satisfied with it, switch the compile to release, and it will generate an ARM code executable to run on the device.
The emulator images running under Device Emulator Manager can run ARM code executables, but the EVT emulator can't.
The problem is that you will need the source code for the app to compile it.
hi i want to know is there a way to run exe files on android, i have a htc 10 oreo
exe is a Windows format, in general it will not work anywhere else natively. There are ways of making it work within Linux by using Wine and so on (i don't know about Macs) but on Android? No idea. There may be an app that allows you to run virtual machines, but beyond that, no.
An.exe file is indeed a windows based file, like .apk is for android, my guess is that it will never work. Not even sure what you want to run as an exe to make it work with android ?
like any emulator or anything? i want to run otohits and wine is currently not running on it. and even i dont know if it will i tried wine 3.0,, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4 non of them work
ScummVM or Limbo from PlayStore? what exe you want to run?
i want to run otohits autosurfer app
Just use the Android app instead: https://www.otohits.net/home/mobile
If you really must use the Windows version, you could try Wine for Android (https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/android/), but be aware: Emulation is far from perfect.
You can think of an Emulator like a live translator for two languages, but the difficulty is that each word from the Windows language needs to be translated to 100-1000 words in the Android/Linux language and on top of that every time the Android system must return something to the Windows app, this doesn't mean that it only has to translate 1/1000th of the words, but it needs to translate another 1000 words in that direction as well. The real problem is that the translator might not be perfectly fluent in both languages and that some figuratives from each language cannot be translated to the other at all.
I tried limbo and many mkre wine too. But no luck, i have the android version but i dosent have many important features.
It cant autosurf.
