NOTE: THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN FIXED, See this post #97 by "teppic74" for how I fixed the phone
My flatmate recently got a Desire from Vodafone, it's got their latest ROM on it with all their bloatware.
I told him I could debrand it, but the goldcard method didn't work because he had bootloader 0.83.
So I followed a thread to this site on how to downgrade the bootloader:
http://www.tolxdorff.net/tutorials/?step=2
So I did step 4... and then the screen went blank. I left it for a while, I thought it may be installing...
After a long time, I pulled the battery out and rebooted the phone ... I'm pretty nervous by this point LOL
Anyway, the phone reboots and I can hear the annoying HTC chime, which never happened on the Voda rom...
But I can't see anything. It appears that the phone is booting up, but the screen is not working.
Anyone got any advice on what I might do to fix this or am I toast? Grateful for any advice.
Have you try it again or download a original rom (maybe on vodafone...on my o2site it give a original rom and also here on xda)...or have you tried unrevoked...what say the h boot now..?????
with kind regards...Alex
Unforunately that's the problem... the phone is working and booting up, but the screen is blank... so I can't see anything.
I'll try to find and flash the voda rom, that's a good idea

you have no acsess to bootloader or recovery.....??
try vol down (hold it) and phone on (power)...
Well... I think I can get into recovery... it's just I can't tell because the screen is not showing anything...
if I was to make a noob guess at what's wrong, and this is unsubstantiated, it's that it's a new desire with SLCD screen and that it's get the driver for the AMOLED screen installed when I downgraded...
Two more people over at modaco at reporting the same issue, I think:

Test your theory.
Pull out the battery and put it back in.
Press and hold volume down and birefly press power on.
Keep volume down pressed for 5 seconds, then release it.
Count 20 seconds, then press the power key briefly once more.
You should now be in fastboot.
Connect your phone to the USB port and it should list it self when you execute fastboot devices.
If see it listed, you can restore the original ROM via the vodafone RUU file.

Correct that's me.
I tried a normal boot, unrevoked found the phone but got stuck waiting for boot loader.
I did follow the test you mentioned regarding fastboot.
Windows did make a bleep bleep sound when i plugged it in, but when I ran adb devices (is that what you meant when you asked "is it listed"?), there were no devices listed.
The phone does make the annoying htc sound on normal boot... just no screen

Thanks I did try to flash an original ROM... but I get the same problem I had before when running the RUU (error 140)
If I find a .92 ROM, i'm not sure I can install it without seeing what's on the screen though...

ADB will not find your phone in fastboot. You need to download fastboot binary and run fastboot devices to list devices in fastboot mode. If you use windows, you also need to install the fastboot windows driver. (I think you can find that in the android SDK)
I no longer even get the startup beep. Think I am totally screwed?

I'm getting the bleep bleep cause I tried to install the generic rom... you're probably not getting it because you only tried to root the existing rom, is that correct?
yeah i used this driver...open attached htm file (if you have download unrevoke...its also in) adb
I believe im having the "5 second bootloop" problem, no idea why since my KF was never rooted, flashed, or modified in any way. I plugged the Micro B in the KF (KF was off) and then plugged the Type-A end into my PC, the KF turned on in like 10 seconds (maybe less) and it isn't doing the bootloop anymore which i guess is a good thing but its been like 10 minutes and it still just says kindle fire (with a green light on the bottom). What should I do from here for my specific situation? Any help would be great! Thanks in advance!
edit: just wanted to add that before when i would plug it in, it would keep rebooting and usually not even get to the slide to unlock screen, but sometimes it would and then instantly reboot again.
First off...what bootloader do you have installed?
How could I find out? I never modified it if that helps? So it should be stock everything.
also i downloaded KFU and installed the drivers, but it does not recognize my device, altho when i first plugged it in after installing the drivers it said kindle in Device Manager, since it didnt go anywhere i unplugged the kindle and turned it off, when i tried again it installed ADB, but still doesnt recognize it (it also prompted me to restart, which i did right before i posted this reply, and still not recognized, also still at the kindle fire screen with green light on)

ok so i read that sometimes it just wont read that it worked... so i check device manager, it said android phone, went to KFU, still said unknown after 0+enter, then i tried 3, it said it worked and to press any key to reboot, i pressed a key but the kindle didnt reboot, is it supposed to? also i tried 4 then like i read to do and it says the download path is incorrect so whats wrong?

i just want it to work! my power went out one day while i was sleeping and it was charging, for some reason it was dead (had been at 100% so shouldnt have drained, but the power going out messed with it) and when i tried to charge it, it bootloops
right now i have TWRP installed and FFF installed, what should i do now? i have tried booting it up and it just gets to the slide to unlock screen and then resets back to the blue kindle fire screen
i also just tried to install permanent root with superuser and it seemed to be working then said rebooting and "please wait...." and it never did anything (except the kindle booted back to the blue kind fire screen)

well i managed to fix it by just factory resetting it with no help AT ALL
Very likely the factory reset had nothing to do with it. Just simply having it plugged in via USB may have given it enough time to charge. Questions of this nature are best handled in q & a not in development.

I'm sorry for not sitting at my computer, waiting with baited breath for you to respond, so I can devote all of my attention to your problem. I hope you can forgive me.
I wasnt trying to be offensive lol I was just proud to figure it out with NO HELP AT ALL! But anyways I am pretty sure it wasnt the charge because it was at 56% before and after i did the factory reset, and after the factory reset i backed it up and it finished that time (last time i had to unplug the KF and hard reset it)... Also I tried resetting it a couple times before the factory reset and it always rebooted once it got to the slide to unlock screen. Anyways it works, I am probably going to give it to my mom because of the simplicity (she just needs email, and internet... lol) and I might try to get my hands on a Nexus 7
AND HOW DO I DELETE ALL THOSE REPOSTS? THE DELETE BUTTON ISNT WORKING FOR ME ^__^'

Correct me if im wrong but you can't delete posts....but this thread should not be in Android Dev section, it should be in Q and A... Not to be mean or anything I am going to report this thread so it can be moved to the right section (to help the mods out)

Thank You And Thread Closed.
I have spent the last 3 days searching XDA & trying every possible fix, no luck!
Here's my dilemma.....
I have custom recovery, TWRP 2.6.3.3, don't know what I did after trying to flash something........ I wiped everything except SDcard by accident. Like a darn fool, forgot after backing up everything via computer, to put a spares on my SDcard. Sooooo, I tried restoring by using LG FlashTool..... Here's where my problems began:
1. I can't load into download mode, it sticks at the logo to enter download mode but doesn't connect.
2. I tried ADB Sideload, sticks at "STARTING ADB SIDELOAD FEATURE.........."
3. No matter what mode (including Fastboot) I try, just won't connect to my computer the way I need it to. (*ALL DRIVERS HAVE BEEN REINSTALLED NUMEROUS TIMES, STILL NO LUCK.*) When I look in DEVICE MANAGER, it shows in "OTHER DEVICES" as "LG-LS980" (*Which is a good thing right? *)
At this point i'm at my wits end...... I tried to HARD FACTORY RESET, but didn't go thru. I'm afraid that if I tried it again, I could cause even more damage.
I've been without my phone for days & I'm about to go crazy if I have to pay LG or Sprint again for another phone!!!! I'd rather use my $600 on something else.
PLEASE TELL ME SOMEONE HAS FOUND A WAY TO GET AROUND THIS!
I've searched just about every forum & tried different methods.
Forgot to add that every time I power off from recovery, I get a the message about my device not being rooted, would I like to install..... When I swipe to install, nothing happens. Just powers off.

So try this...
Push the power button to turn the device on. Let it sit.
After you know that the g2 is on and trying to do its think, Press and hold power buttton, do not let go. It will force turn off the phone, but it will start to turn back on, if you keep holding the power button till it shuts off for the second time, you'll be set and the device will be fully off.
Have Lg Flash Tool open, make sure you have manual mode on and you point to the right dll and right tot file, could be zv7 zv8 or zva.
Click the arrow to have the flash tool biin check the files. when that is ready, do this next part fast. Plug in your phone, and immeditaly press and hold Volume up and Power. Download mode should appear.
and you should be good from there! If you try to enter download mode by using volume and up without the cable plug in, you'll hit the factory reset menu which is tied to the recovery, it'll do nothing, only take you to recovery. I hope this is of some help!
Edit:try new boot loader or system flasher via twrp
proplem i faced is one button which used to enter recovery is damged
Flash stock Ignoring the unmonted ianot able to be mounted then change system partitions u will be able to mount
Enjoy

Hi!
I have a kindle fire hd 8.9 running the 8.5.1 version.
I managed to root it using the key root master app (i think it was an indonesian/chinese language, which was suggested by one poster), although it was kinda weird because it didn't install the superuser app. Then, i tried to install the 2nd bootloader and twrp using the fireflash app from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2277105. But somehow, i couldn't get it to fastboot mode, although it wasn't needed according to that thread. I flashed it using the fireflash app, however, i couldnt get it to go to the TWRP recovery. Then, i noticed that there was an option to go into recovery from the fireflash app, which i pressed, and now, i'm stuck in the bootscreen showing the kindlefire logo. i could turn it on and off, but that's it.
sorry, im quite a relatively newbie at this. from what i've searched, maybe the KFHD srt tools can help with this. Will it work even if i cannot go into fastboot mode?
Thank you. any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks @Mike. It kinda reassuring to know that somehow you were able to fix your kindle. BUT i have a big problem, i was not able to back up the images (i wasnt able to go into fastboot, i think my windows 8 pc has a problem with that, or is it just me?). is it possible to use your images? Thanks again mike. I think i'll be scared to try the 2nd bootloader again too.

First off you have got to get adb and fastbook working, if not you will probably never get it back useable. have you installed android sdk? if not go here >http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html#Other< and download the android-sdk windows zip file and install, that should get your drivers going so you can access adb and fastboot. for help installing the sdk manager go here >http://developer.android.com/tools/help/sdk-manager.html< after sdk manager install check your C:/users/yournamehere/ folder and make sure it put a .android folder there (sometimes it don't) and it should be a file in there called android_usb.ini, if that don't get you hooked up to adb and fastboot (assuming you know how to check if adb and fastboot is working correctly) install the Kindle driver package found here >https://www.dropbox.com/s/c0w3po7r65fwltb/Kindle%20Fire%20HD%208.9%20ADB%20drivers.zip< and if STILL you can't get adb and fastboot working i will help you edit that android_usb.ini file(what i ultimately had to do to cure my fastboot woes on this windows 7 box) that i mentioned earlier in this post. once you get adb and fastboot working correctly i will try to help you get your KFHD back up. keep me posted and i will check back as regular as i can! thats good news! adb and fastboot working now? i hope i helped in some kind of way! you can surely get it back straight now! and btw if you were successful in installing that 8.1.4 bootloader when it messed up, IT DONT GO AWAY! i flashed mine twice with MY factory backup images and still retained the 8.1.4 bootloader from Hashcodes OP. and retained root! anyway im so stubborn and determined to figure things out like this, i decided to try again only after i figured out i still had the 8.1.4 bootloader, and THE ONLY way i could figure out which boot loader i had was to load up fireflash again and see if it give me the RED WARNING in the first line about flashing or not flashing the 8.1.4, sure enough it showed no warning with 8.1.4 bootloader! SO instead of using fireflash i just used fastboot to apply the "stack override script" and flashed the freedom boot 8.4.6 image and the 2.7.0.0 TWRP and went smooth as butter, booted up in TWRP recovery and then rebooted several times to make sure all was good and then last boot in recovery i did a wipe with TWRP and installed CM11 and GAPPS zip and all has been good every since! it really is a whole new tablet with CM11! :good: if you need more help i will do my best, trust me i know what it feels like to have the RED SCREEN and stuck in fastboot! keep me posted!

Thanks again @Mike. However, i wasn't able to do my factory backup images. and secondly, what did you use to restore the images? Did you use KKFA or the KFHD SRT? i'm sorry, i kinda scared now to proceed on my own.
From what i've read, you use the KFHD SRT for bricked devices USING a factory cable, is that right? from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1951254. Or do i use the KKFirstAide tool from this http://rootjunkysdl.com/?device=Kindle Fire HD 7in ?
Thanks again @11fan!

no, you DO NOT need a special "factory cable" for the 8.9 inch just the regular cable that come with the KFHD 8.9 or ANY usb/microusb cable like the one that come with your kindle, it's nothing special to that cable. and although i tried using those utilities you mentioned in your previous post to fix mine, NONE of them worked for me! the only thing i used was adb and fastboot commands and a recovery image DOWNLOADED from a thread here, thats was what ultimately booted my kindle back up in "factory" recovery mode (NOT fastboot mode) and it went through a couple prompts (on the kindle screen) and using the vol up/down and power buttons to select and enter respectively to do a factory restore all from the kindle screen once i finally got it to boot into it's own factory recovery. do you have fastboot working? if so i think we can fix it! mite have to go to a IM kinda app or google hangout or something for realtime communication but i feel like it can be fixed!

edit: all those file on rootjunky you linked to look to be for Kindle Fire HD 7 inch, you do have the 8.9 inch, correct???

Thank you for the prompt reply. So now i know those wouldn't work. Yes, fastboot is working - it says fastboot on the screen of the kindle fire 8.9. Ok, so i need to get that recovery image - however, i think you were not able to link that thread. I'm sorry, can you please paste the link again?
I'm on google hangouts now. [email protected]
Thanks a lot @Mike!
I have been reading XDA for years, My KFHD 8.9 recently stopped booting also
My KFHD (Kindle Fire HD ) 8.9" (JEM) recently stopped working one day (about a month or 2 ago) while it was sitting plugged into a wall charger . Mine , since coming back to it while it was charging, stopped running and I can't remember if it was on or off while I charged it, but it's 100% stock and now it only boots as far as the non-animated part of the "Kindle fire" logo screen, and stays there indefinitely until the battery dies , or until I hold down the power button long enough to shut it down. I'm pretty sure it's either bricked (for whatever reason) , or has some part possibly broken on it (internally) ?
--- sidenote: one time I was given a case for a tablet, and without thinking about it, tried to see if my 8.9 inch model fit inside it and it didn't. Without forcing it in, as far as it did get in, caused my KFHD to reboot on its own?!
my only question here is , Is this a similar enough case , or is there anything else I should do to fix this? my device beeps on multiple computers I've attached it to , notifying it was detected by windows, and about 1/4 second later it dings the disconnected sound and I've never managed to get KFHD SRT (of any version) to work for me at all. Fastboot does not detect my device, even after installing drivers (have attempted this on a windows 7 64 bit computer, and a windows 8 64 bit computer, neither have shown any sign of functionality with fastboot)

I dont think this is the same case @Umisguy as you have not tinkered with your tablet (100% stock), while mine happened while trying to install a custom ROM. Maybe the amazon guys can help you?
Do you have 8.5.1 or 8.4.6 system image and the boot and recovery files

Folks,
I got in to the same trouble able to mess up the KF and get a redscreen but used KFHD SRT to reflash the 8.1.4 system image, boot image, recovery image but now I ended up in the boot loop mode where it shows reboot kindle or Reset to factory Dafaults but as I flashed every thing am unable to reset to factory. As I got the tablet recently it came with 8.5.1 so I need to try with the latest image I can get.
If there are any suggestions i can try please let me know.
Which stage of bricked are you at? I don't exactly understand how far you got or didn't get? Red screen? Orange kindle screen? Boot loop? If you can give a little more detail I may be able to help

Hope this helps and not confuses you more!

I am at the boot loop where it shows the kindle reboot or factory restore option and it loops into that screen forever. Before that I hit with a redscreen and able to get the device into this loop mode by using the 8.1.4 system image, boot , recovery images. Now I ended up in this boot loop so I wonder If I have the actual 8.5.1 system, boot, recovery images I can flash them in the fastboot mode on the device. Also another issue am facing is ADB command cannot recognize the device even though am in the fastboot mode.
Thanks for the prompt reply mike.
I'm at work so kinda limited to my replies and quickness, and I'm by no means a dev or pro at this, I just learn by trial and error and lots of reading, especially when it comes to the kfhd! I went through this same mess SEVERAL times with my kindle before I finally got it straight! Bricked mine several times, once to the point I thought it was toast! So I no how you feel! 1st thing u need to know is adb only works when device is booted up in the os, that's why you getting device not found, but fastboot will work as you know, if you successfully flashed the 8.1.4 boot loader then its there to stay at least in my findings, after flashing back all my stock images and multiple factory resets I still had the second 8.1.4 bootloader installed. I'm using tablet now at work and I have the thread bookmarked on my PC at home that ultimately got me back up and going but I will try to find it and get you a link, if not I will post the link when I get home after work around 5 30 est, there is a recovery image that you will need to flash that should get you back into factory recovery mode and work instead of looping

BUT i have a big problem, i was not able to back up the images (i wasnt able to go into fastboot, i think my windows 8 pc has a problem with that, or is it just me?). is it possible to use your images? (we're both 8.5.1).
Thanks again mike. I think i'll be scared to try the 2nd bootloader again too.

ok @krishnasanga go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37278819&postcount=193 and grab the boot image from step 3 and the recovery image from step 4 and place those in C:/ or wherever you have your adb and fastboot tools, should be in C:/ to make things easier but don't HAVE to be if you know how to enter correct paths in the command prompt. IGNORE all the Kindle First Aide stuff, you will just flash these with regular command prompt running as ADMIN (right click command prompt, click run as admin) start at step # 6 (ignore first aide stuff) and open command prompt running as admin and go from there EXACTLY as it says with kindle plugged up to usb and powered OFF. most likely HOPEFULLY you will not have to go past the reboot in step 8 and you will be in factory recovery and will be able to "reset to factory settings" assuming the recovery file is flashed successfully, if you do get to step 8 without issue and get to the fastboot erase userdata -i 0x1949 command, don't panic if it seems like it's taking a long time, i have seen this userdata erase take up to 40+ minutes! IF you get that far and userdata gets erased properly the next command to reboot "should" put the kindle into factory recovery where you can "reset to factory" and will not keep looping. GOOD LUCK! hope this helps and works out for you and i will be around the rest of the evening if i can help let me know and i will try

Mike,
I tried with this new boot and recovery images but still stuck in the loop , can you upload your backup files of 8.5.1 system.img,boot.img,recovery.img I think that will be my last shot to try to unbrick this device.
Thanks,
Krishna
So I have bricked my phone for the 3rd time, the last 2 times I had to have someone with an authorized account fix it for me cost was 30EUR. Sucks. I have read every post on here and was just going to toss this thing in the trash after flashing and bricking it last night. This morning I came across a thread claiming if you used the SP Flash Tool with some other files that it would work, it didn't for me but in the process I found another thread talking about holding the volume down key while flashing, it did work. Here are the steps and how did I brick it, I flashed the files from MEGATHREAD so preloader was in place, I had working and install TWRP and was in the process of flashing vendor and PE ROM from TWRP. The zip was corrupted and it wiped me out and before rebooting I got the No OS installed message but figured I would to a clean flash of the OEM image from fastboot. Nope it failed and I got the LED light with nothing else, no boot no fastboot and no recovery. Dead. Here is what I did someone please try this.
I am on a Ubuntu box with ADB and Fastboot installed for the system I assume Windows or MAC would work just have those tools working and installed you must or you wouldn't have bricked your phone. I have begonia_global_images_V11.0.6.0.PGGMIXM_20200108.0000.00_9.0_global ROM and I went to the image directory, and typed:
Code:
fastboot devices
fastboot flash boot boot.img
When it was listed in fastboot devices I was like WHAT??? Sure enough it flashed it but do this right before you issue that command ITS IMPORTANT plug in the phone via USB and hold down the volume down key the phone will within a few seconds vibrate then hit the commands. Please see attached image you can see what I did. After that when I unplugged the phone it freaking booted into the OS and I had to set my phone up again but for the most part and this is weird my data was still intact, I don't care but it was nice. I really don't understand this phone at all but I hope others will try this and unbrick it would be awesome.

Thanks for sharing this. I've had a bricked rn8 pro for 3 weeks now and none of the other fixes worked for me. I'm looking forward to giving this a try when I get home from work. Perhaps I should've tried using my Kali box rather than windoze in my previous attempts.
I'll update with results if interested.
Hi, what exactly you did? Because I'm tired to test any possible method, I've tried disconnecting the battery, Press Volume - while try to flash, and now I'm waiting to prove the method that drain the battery adn then can connect and flash.
Did you flash with Ubuntu? It works? How can you do it If the phone can't enter to fastboot mode?
To what I understood you unlocked it 3 times and in one of those you updated the preloader?
Because if so. spflash unlocks it without asking for the happy account

You guys are NOT reading the method used, the battery isnt even removable on this phone follow the steps listed. You can't see anything happening on your phone just be at a terminal window HOLDING down the volume down key and type (oone handed or whatever) fastboot devices) it works I did it 3 times. Flash the boot.img and it will reboot and be fixed. I am tellng you FOLLOW instructions so many of you don't.

None of that matters and no the preloader was over written, the point here is it was hard bricked only got the white LED light, then I did exactly what I wrote and it saw the phone in fastboot and it wrote the boot.img and then it rebooted and worked. Period. Worked for me. Someone else tested it worked for them. Try it but follow the directions....

Ok, so, you only need to installed adb and fastboot right? no drivers or other things?
