[Q] Rename Files Before Download? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

My old Galaxy S II I had the option to rename every file before downloading it, I thought it was an Android feature but I think it was part of the Samsung tweaking of the software.
Is there a way to do this on the Galaxy Nexus? I didn't see any options in the Downloads "app" in the tray. Are there any extensions for the native Browser, Chrome Beta Browser or maybe a file management app that would prompt to rename the file before download? Thanks for the help!

[Q] Organizing my Note 2

Hello all my question comes from not knowing enough about themes Im happy with my rom and my mods but I seem to have forgetten the basic essential needs to install a good launcher that will hide all the clutter .Now don't get me wrong I am organized I currently am using cleanrom 3.5 with nova launcher on top of it so that the apps will fill up into folders that are circular vs on stock touch wiz its just looks even messier apps all over the place at least with the circle folder its not so cluttered . So here is my question I want to figure out how to hide my apps just under a theme name or have all the apps that are similar like social apps, gaming apps ,Media apps , Music apps ..Is there a way just to have the name show on my desk top and than click on it and behold all the apps instead having them show up on my home screen in stacked position ...Ive seen it before I saw some videos on youtube someone had there apps just under the name or maybe I can hide all my apps of similiar interest under just one icon ...Somone please help I will upload a picture of my homescreen now to show you what im working with currently .
For me I look at this in a different viewpoint. I have 815 apps (got this number from the Titanium Backup Pro), including everything that come with the Galaxy Note 2.
What I wanted to do is find what I wanted or needed without spending time looking for it. What I was looking for is to categorize and subcategorize the apps. So I can find what I wanted by what I wanted to do with it. This giving me a much smaller amount of choices. This making finding that just right application very simple and very fast.
I customized Folder Organizer to just that. I got the paid version of Folder Organizer from the Google Play Store.
At first it organizes your apps by itself. You may like this, but I don't. I created my own Labels (they are like folders) into the categories and subcategories. Then I setup the subcategory labels into the category labels. Then I organized the apps into the correct subcategories. I sometimes may add a few apps into a category label too.
Then I added the category labels onto the homescreen through the apps FO Folder link widget. Each category label is its own widget, so you can organize them on your homescreen.
So if I wanted to see what is going on in xda forums then I would go to Communication category, Forums subcategory and click on xda premium app.
This works for me. May not work for everyone. But this does help me in a huge way. And could help out others to.
I started doing this with my DROID X. In Folder Organizer you can make exported backups. Which saved me lot of time importing in Galaxy Note 2. A copy of the exported backups should be backup outside of your device. Just in case. I used them to restore my Folder Organizer when I had to do a hard reset.
PS - I use Misc category label to hide the apps not needed to be seen. Like paid donate unlock apps to unlock the premium part of another app. Don't need the app showing anywhere. I keep the Misc folder away from the homescreen. Main menu is the labels' menu label that I add to Admin category label. That way I have easy access to the labels, manage the labels, and what is in each label. There I can get to the Misc label.
One thing I need to make clear. This is labor intensive. But once done then please make the exported backup. And upload a copy of exported backup in the cloud. This will help keep the intensive labor down to the minimum when you need to restore.

That's awesome thanks for the pointer I appreciate I've never heard of that folder organizer before but I like the idea ive also heard on nova launcher you can gesture a whole category and probably have your sub categort in there but I do like your way of doing it ill have to give it a shot I tried sending my home screen as it is now its not bad very organized just cluttered

All these apps, including Folder Organizer, are designed to categorize apps the same way. Basically how the app store categorize the app is the way they categorize the app too.
That is why I created my own categories and subcategories labels. And why I manually categorized each app into its subcategory.
I am thankful that Folder Organizer allows me to do this and back it up to.

I used to use a launcher called Smart Launcher which basically bunched the apps up into categories. Might want to give a try see if it does what you want.

The op is using a launcher that organizes the apps into categories. That is not what the op wants. Too many categories that takes too much homescreen space.
The only way is to manually to it yourself. Folder Organizer allows you to do this manually.

The last guy has got it right im trying to find a way to keep the apps exactly where they are but by somehow hiding them from the home screen maybe just the name of the folder shows up and than I click on it and than all the apps load up ... There has to be something like that or if not under a folder name just under one icon .Can you make a folder look like your most popular icon for a specific category and than have all the apps that are similar load up when you click it twice

So when you looking at alot of these guys home screens they have typically one app and than they hide they're apps of similar interest ??? Who knows I don't know how they do it but I like the idea of being able to grab any of my most popular apps off my home screen tham on my 2nd screen is widget for all my movies it takes up half the screen and the botton widget is a widget of the same size but for music than on my oyher home screen its more for utilities but I also have a drippler widget and a flipboard widget

Wave Launcher
I used to use Wave Launcher along with Folder Organizer. The two can be made into a nice, clean, easy system for you.
But the work is still yours to do if want this to be the way you want.

They are called folders aka labels or whatever. We gave you in the thread to do this under any homescreen launcher.
In fact your screenshot shows you did this already.
Folder Organizer can take that into higher level by giving you the power to organize the way you want to.
Wave Launcher takes that into yet another level by allowing you to hide the apps and/or folders until you are ready to launch them. Then give you a easy way to launch those apps.

When it comes to your media files: Why not allow your media players do that work for you?
MX Player Pro is first choice for video file player. It finds and organizes your videos. So you only have to open MX Player Pro to see what folder/s have your videos. Choose the folder of your choice and you will see your videos with previews.
PowerAmp (paid version) is my first choice for audio file player. It also organizes your audio files. In choosing an audio file you will see your collection of audio files. You can choose the way they are organized.
A different approach to keeping those folders on your homescreen.

I have the note 2 and the video player that it has is a widget that you can click on and it will show all your videos as well and if I hove over with spen it will preview the video also with Samsung music player I can say command and it will skip forward or back wards or volume done plus with the two you mentioned you still can't sync hulu or netflix in it yes it may use the player when watching a video but it doesn't I use to use mx player for all my videos until I got the note 2 its almost Better integrared I would still need a folder for my media like hulu and Netflix unless you know of an option im not aware of
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
So you have the note 2 and you prefer the mx player over the video player that comes with the phone where you can put the video on your main screen and minimize the video so I can muti task you have the note 2 also and you prefer mx player to watch your movies and pro amp over the samsung player with voice commands .... I'm confused I thought Samsung offered the best option on this

Netflix doesn't allow for you to download their media content. I am pretty sure that Hulu doesn't either. Both are heavily handed by the media companies. Streaming only.

For apps folders on the homescreen is good. But not as well with your media, documents, etc files. Best to use the designed application for the media, documents, etc to browse the media. In fact you don't need the app's widget either. Just a quick way to the app itself.

That is because MX Player Pro has the most codecs of all video players.
And it really works with the codecs.
Yes you can setup MX Player Pro to allow to see and have access to your notification bar while watching the video. And after modify the MultiWindow I actually have MX Player Pro as an app that I can use with MultiWindow.

I have it to so your saying its the best player and i also have it installed on clean rom 4.0.5 but I still need to store apps like netflix and hulu in folders I haven't had a problem with the stock player at all I guess I just am naive I still don't see the point of using it over the samsung native player that has so many options ... when you say it has the most codecs out of any player you mean its pretty much compatable with all videos .. Do you use it on your note 2 more than the player that came with the phone ill send you a screen shot of my muti media arrangement on my muti media page I don't know how to send pics but ill try

What I use for voice commands depends on what I want and where I want to get it from. Google Now is very good for that. But still can use voice commands across many apps. Love this with dictionaries. So much easier finding words.
I use PowerAmp mainly with music. The amp part of the app works so well with headphones.
For voice recording I like to use something with manual gain control. My favorite voice recording app right now is RecForge Pro. But I am trying out a few more.

Again Samsung video and MX Player Pro can't play Netflix or Hulu. Both are only streaming through their own app. This is due to the heavily handed of the media industry and not the codecs themselves.

Here is an idea. Why not add pages to your homescreen? Many home launchers will allow you to do this.
With each screen page you can have a different subject. Now you still need to limit yourself so you don't end up overwhelming yourself. This way your pages will not be overly crowded.
For me I am not into widgets that much. Beautiful Widgets and Folder Organizer are most used widgets I ever used. I tried many other widgets but run into the same issue that you did. Too much space being used and too cluttered.
I like just get to the app that I want/need within three clicks and no more. No cluttering, no flipping, no staring at the screen trying to spot the app within many, no forgetting the name of the app causing not to find it, etc... Just there.
I wanted this for each and every app.
That is why I came up with this method.

Thanks alot for the suggestions I started using folder organizer tonight but stopped because I was watching a movie and it seemed like a little bit to think about for the first time so I like but I don't want to use a custom icon I would like to use a very well recognized say like facebook make that the main icon for my social apps and than have instagram, twitter, for square within that folder ...so that part im sure will work but next question I couldn't figure out how to create the folder for each group and I couldn't figure out how to create widget folder that opens up to show all the apps within the say facebook icon ... kinda the same question asked twice ..lol sorry its getting late

Within Folder Organizer click on the upper left corner. Then click on labels.
Within Folder Organizer click on the upper left corner. Click on New Label. Name the labels and Okay it.
Find the labels and click on the right triangle in a circle. Click on Icon. Click on. Application Icons. Find Facebook icon and click on it.
If you want this label to be a subcategory then at the same menu choose labels. Then you can choose which label is going to be the parent label by clicking on that label.
Wow, I only scratch the surface. Play with it. It is a power user tool.

Go to your homescreen. Go to your widgets. Different home launchers have different ways to widgets. Scroll down to Folder Organizer. Then click on the FO Folder link (the one with the word Android under the icon). Then choose the label (category) and click on it. Now that category label is on your homescreen.

Thanks to you I figured it out take a look at the results I did it with nova launcher though the exact thing I was looking ..If you long press on any icon it will give you the option to edit and it has custom icon packages or you can use any of the icons you have to give you that stock touchwiz look but low and behold if I tap on any of the icons the hous whole folder will fan out and show all the othee apps of Similar interest.... I'm still going to try folder organizer on my stock launcher because in order for this to work I have to be running on nova launcher and go through a bunch of setup .I have a feeling things will probably be alot more fluid on touch wiz with just using folder organizer ..so thanks again ill give it a shot .... I have another question you seem very bright I was trying to figure out how to save battery life .. What would you suggest if you don't mind me asking .. Ill give you a heads up I don't use any task killers I heard they drain battery by force stopping unecessary services that are suppose to be running in the background also I have my screen light very dim when im indoors and on auto while im outside if necessary I also turn off location services for google and gps .. Is there anything else you would suggest I do to save battery life ...I feel so needy ive been asking you a ton of questions lol sorry man

Need help converting the new KitKat S-Note files to jellybean S-Note

So I updated my galaxy note 8 to 4.4.2 and my s note files converted to the KitKat format perfectly. However I didn't like KitKat 4.4.2 because it was slow and choppy so I went back to a 4.2.2 jellybean ROM.
I tried using one of my notes and discovered that the KitKat version of snote uses the file extension .SPD and jellybean uses .snb. I changed the file extension to the .snb and now s note is asking me for a password to open all of my files but I never put passwords on them. Anyone know of a way to fix this?

@pawtip when are you going to add a file manager to your new rom ..

[I am posting this because I am not able to post in your thread]
When are you going to add a file manager in your alpha version of android 6.0.0 for samsung galaxy grand duos ...it would solve lot of my problems
Use EsFile explorer, etc.... :|
I don't think gapps are available for AOSP 6. Use apk extracted from other android phones...
and how do i install es explorer (or any app for that matter..)

although i can download apk but i cant install it cause there is no file explorer....
this problem can only be solved if there is a built in file explorer...the rom will then become usable.
maybe this will help.

Make sure you back up your ROM first.

Root Confusion

Hi everyone.
I have a rooted samsung tab pro 10.1 with Linage OS 14.1, with nova launcher made to look like the samsung S8 touchwiz.
I wanted free some memory and delete some standard apps like calculator, note book, alarm and browser (I use samsung internet).
When I downloaded a system app remover it said the device needed to be rooted. So I downloaded ES file explorer file management app and this said the same.
When I download the lineage ROM does it lose root access and if I reroot my device will it mess up the lineage ROM in anyway.
Hope people can help
Hi people
I have done some digging on the old web and found out what I needs doing.
Basically you have to download the superSu add on for the right version of Linage and the ARM version(I will add a link where to get the add-on)
After that you need to unlock the development options and then enable the level of root access from there.
