Hi all,
I'm dual booting HFKS (ie - HellFire kindle Sandwich 4.04) and CM7, using FIREFIREFIRE extended. Everything works perfectly, except for upnp under CM9.
The CM9 rom (using apps like UPNP, 2player, Ububblethingo) cannot locate any upnp servers. And when I try to look for some it disconnects its wifi connection, and I have to reboot to use it again.
I know my upnp servers are fine - as the CM7 rom works perfectly with upnp.
I'm guessing it's a kernel issue? Had a poke around, am I missing anything as to why this wouldn't work?
Cheers

After flashing netarchy's stock rooted Froyo ROM, I can't use my VPN anymore. I have a L2TP/IPSec VPN server and it's working fine with my laptop, and was working with my EVO before Froyo. Now, the phone connects to the server with no errors on either end and the connection is successfully established. But that's all. No data is ever sent and I can't connect to anything behind the firewall. At least one other person is having this issue:
http://androidforums.com/htc-evo-4g/140775-post-froyo-vpn-issues.html
It doesn't appear he is using a rooted ROM so it can't be an issue with netarchy's ROM.
Any ideas?
Another issue: I'm unable to play .wav files. The built-in music player says "unable to play this type of audio file." Weird. It was working before.
Wrong Forum.
Questions belong in the Q&A Forum or in the thread that contains the ROM that you are having issues with.
What are the advanages of Modaco Rom over the stock Amazon rooted rom?
I think that the difference is slight optimizations in Modaco Rom.

According to the MoDaCo OP:
'Based on the 6.3 release heavily optimised and compressed to take as little space as possible and perform as fast as possible!'
I noticed a pretty decent boost in performance between the two and, to me, it feels faster than most of the ICS based ROMs.

I think there are a couple of features of MoDaCo that make it better than rooted stock.
A rooted stock KF is still identified as a KF by the Play store, so it limits the apps that are available based upon it's idea suitable hardware compatibility. MoDaCo masquerades the KF as a Galaxy Tab to get the maximum app availability. I have really noticed the increase in available apps.
The KF doesn't have gps but MoDaCo uses Wi-Fi location services somehow so that your location will show up when you are using apps that need, or can use your location.

In the beginning I had no interest in modaco but after playing with cm7 and ics for quite some time I finally flashed and strangely I have been enjoying the stock like interface.

From His website
Based on the 6.3 release
Heavily optimised and compressed to take as little space as possible and perform as fast as possible!
Includes Google Services Framework and Google Play Store, masquerading as Galaxy Tab for maximum app availability It shows up as kindle fire because that it is still stock though you get more apps i have tested and seen it.
Optional Google Books / Music
Network location support (for Maps etc.)
Rooted with Superuser
Insecure boot image (for 'adb remount' etc.)
init.d support
TweakDeck Twitter client Kindle Fire version (can be uninstalled)
personally i liked the rom very much had no problems it was faster and was able to use google maps and beautiful widgets fine with location. If you install go launcher or an other launcher you will get a decent android ui experience. Only thing it does not have is usb otg which is kernel problem thats i switched to gederom though its great.
It is the first ROM I haven't experienced any issues with !!!!!!
(Apart from GYRO but that got uncalibreted after restoring a system through nandroid. Still looking for a way to calibrate it )

If you flash this will the 6.3.1 OTA update install automatically? Will you then lose root, recovery and/or bootloader?
Also, has anyone tried fotakill.apk from CM to prevent updates?

I never had the OTA update install though i have heard some people had it happen. I have not tried fotakill.apk from CM to prevent updates though i know there is a thread I think modaco one that has method to modify one of the system files to prevent it from occurring. Hope this helps
anyone haev their tether working on 4.2? wifi tether, built in tether, and all other 3rd party apps dont work anymore. it was working on 4.1.2 but not on 4.2.
Wifi-tether working straight away here, I just enabled it and my computer connected straight away.
I did however install 4.2 with a full wipe, it seems people using the OTA have had plenty of bugs non of which I've experienced.

Mines not working :crying:
Seems to be a common problem over at the Wireless Tether for Root Users development site :-/
I use it a ton and miss it badly.
mine seems to be broken too how weird

any update on this? works on macs but not windows or xbox.
I was using a AOKP ROM with lean kernel (4.1.x) and wifi tethering was working fine.
I then went to 4.2.1 and 4.2.2, WiFi tethering so far has been broken.
I tried Bigxie's deoxed, tried Android Revolution HD 10.x, and Rootbox's 4.2.2 nightly with the same result where WiFi tethering doesn't work. In my case, the client that is trying to connect will connect, IP is assigned but it won't be able to access the internet.
The ROM flashing were a full wipe, as well as dirty wipe - made no difference.
I was using Pdanet on a USB tether and it no longer works after update. My phone is totally stock with no mods. I did a factory wipe and reinstalled everything and still a no go. PC is a Windows 7 box with all associated drivers reinstalled. Contacted June fabrics (Pdanet Dev) about it and they think its a driver issue.

I also have these threads gpoing on it. Though you will get better support here than at the Google Dev forums.

For anyone that is interested, I got an email from PDAnet yesterday that says they have fixed the problem with a new PC side software install. I don't know if this helps any of you but there is a fix out there at least for PDAnet.
A friend of mine has the original kindle fire which doesnt have built in vpn support out of the box (tun). He doesnt want to do the router trick and is interested in switching software. I have been toying about with various other android devices but not the kindle' so:
It seems cm doesnt support kindle?
If not what would be a good choice in a stable rom for a non tinkering guy?
Couldnt i just replace the kernel on the original software and get proper vpn support?
Any help much appreciated
Edit: forgot to ask - i read somewhere that switching software will result in no streaming from amazon. Is that correct? I am wondering how little i could get away with. My friend basically just wants to get vpn working and prrhaps also google plsy and netflix access etc he does not care for tweaking og newer rom features

Yup, you're right; streaming video from Amazon will be non-op if you flash another rom onto the Kindle. IMO, if your friend doesn't want to tweak and play with his Kindle all of the time, you're better off just rooting / dual booting. That way you can get the Google Play store on the Kindle and put whatever Android app you want on. The tutorial I used was from Liliputing, which gives you root, a recovery boot loader, and gives you the option to install the Google apps: http://liliputing.com/2012/05/how-to-root-a-kindle-fire-with-software-version-6-3-1.html
FYI the stock Kindle will allow you to install apps out of the Amazon store, so if you *really* don't want to fuss with it... Download the APK of the VPN solution you want to try, transfer it to your Kindle, and then install it. Easy peasy.
If you want to go all in on the latest / greatest Android O/S, I recommend twa_priv's CM10.1 rom; it's one of the most solid / feature full Jelly Bean 4.2 roms I've seen, and features Hashcode's very excellent kernal. It was one of the first that I tried and I always come back to it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2051331
Hi guys. Kindle 8.9 HD non-LTE. Today I flashed LiquidSmooth 3.2 (and Liquid_gapps build 8.1) over CM11, then did full wipe/reset. Overall the ROM is great, seems much smoother than CM11, but two potential dealbreakers:
1. Youtube doesn't work at all. Says connection to server lost. I've seen some suggestions to try Cposed module, but doesn't seem many people have had success.
2. Google Now doesn't work. It says Network error whenever I try to open. I tried to uninstall all updates and install the google app clean, no luck.
Any thoughts/help on either? Thanks.
