[Q] Use my Verizon GN with T-Mobile? Possible? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Can I use my VERIZON Galaxy Nexus phone on T-Mobile? Is there such a "hack"?
Plz let me know - it will help me so much !
Thanks

No. Never going to happen. Impossible. It is physically missing the radios required.
Sell your Verizon model and buy a GSM one.
Also, covered 1000x already.

As they are two different models with different hardware and software... not now, not ever will there be a hack aside from buying a new phone.

get a cheap tmo phone and set up tethering. Connect your gn to if via wifi.

I saw a tweet from P3Droid that he has a Droid Bionic, Razr and Razor Max working on T-Mobile AND AT&T. From what I understand, they are world phones, his team or something used some kind of software hack. They have T-Mobile and AT&T bands. Unless our G-Nex is a secret world world that we dont know of, it can't work. But the proof of concept is there.

The aforementioned Motorola phones were previously known to have GSM radios. They were disabled by VZW. Our GN's, however, completely lack the hardware.

No. They both use different radios and hardware. Would never work unless T-Mobile used Verizon's LTE etc etc.

[Q] Getting a Verizon Galaxy Nexus to work on Sprint...

This has become a pet project of mine, but I've found little information available online or on these forums. Is this something that is possible? Some Sprint reps say yes, others say no. The one who do say yes also iterate that you'll need to unlock it yourself, while the ones that say no seem to be newbies or rulebook-followers...which leads me to believe that it IS indeed possible, but with some work on the user's end.
So, has anyone moved a Verizon Android phone over to Sprint? If so, could you give me (and the many others looking for this) a walkthrough of the steps or where to go to research further?
Thanks a lot.
Not going to happen. The esn for the phone has to be in their database to activate the phone.
The only esns in that database are the phones that they sell.

Can this not be handled with a little social engineering?

No, the ESNs are in a computer database. If the rep enters an incorrect ESN or, in this case from their point of view invalid, the system will not move forward.
Even if that wasn't the case, I don't believe Verizon and Sprint operate on the same CDMA frequencies. Not to mention LTE. EVEN if that wasn't the case, the Galaxy Nexus pulls its subscriber information(like the phone number, data plan, etc) from its SIM card(just like GSM phones).

It is impossible at this point. The ESN isn't the roadblock. I'll quote a post made on Phandroid from someone who has much more knowledge on the topic.
"It is physically impossible to activate the Galaxy Nexus on Sprint. The Galaxy Nexus (along with all Verizon 4G LTE phones) provision CDMA using a UICC that has a CDMA SIM program embedded on it. AKA, a CDMA SIM card. There is nowhere to flash to make it work on Sprint!
Even if Sprint were willing to allow non-Sprint devices on their network (which they are not), you're still missing the CDMA SIM card that Sprint has to provide. They aren't making those available until Q4 2012 along with the LTE smartphones. And even then, do you want to try arguing with Verizon to get the Galaxy Nexus SIM unlocked? It just isn't going to happen... And let's not forget Sprint uses a non-standard implementation of CDMA, just like Verizon. They aren't fully compatible on certain aspects, like the messaging channels in 1X."

MAYBE but probably not. You would have to know someone very high up at Sprint who is willing to risk their job for you.
Even then I'm not sure it's entirely possible because I think the 3G data services on this phone are authenticated through the LTE SIM card.
If that is not the case then you would have to figure out a way to program the Sprint PRL into your GN.
Bottom line I don't think it's possible.

So this report is BS?

Hate to refry an old topic, but this is not completely true. The RAZR, RAZR MAXX, Droid 4, and Bionic have been flashed to Cricket. This means there is a way to get it on Sprint. Legally... no. Just as legal as non Boost phones on Boost.
The Nexus uses a VIA chipset and not Qualcomm. Not many people have actually poked around on the device to see if there is anywhere to save the programming.

Any Major differences ?

At the end of the month i will be switching from sprint to Verizon.
I was wondering if there were any MAJOR developmental differences with rooting between the Sprint version of the nexus vs. the Verizon.
Though I will be switching to the Galaxy S3, I figure since this phone is on both sprint and Verizon it would be a good measure to see if verizon has locked their version of the phone down, i know in the past they have put more restriction on their devices compared to other carriers.
I just think there's more development for the Verizon version. Would be nice if you could switch carriers without having to switch phones

Only difference is a tad bit of bloatware on Verizon.
Like MyVerizon.apk and a couple others.
And yeah, literally every GSM rom is on Toro, as far as I know.
Only a handful are on ToroPlus (Sprint).
Linked in my sig (or stickied above) you can see that the root method is exactly the same (aside from a different CWM.img).
Ok great, just wanted to make sure Verizon wasn't locking down their phones. Sounds like a plan. I can't wait for the gs III to drop

Opinion as to whether Verizon will work with Google on next Nexus device

What do you all think? Any chance that Verizon won't be so stubborn with Google this time and release another Nexus device? I'm curious... I love my GNexus, but would love a new toy to tinker around with... It's highly subjective, obviously.

Sadly, I fear the same..

I personally feel that the GNex is the last pure Nexus device we will see branded with Verizon. The whole fiasco with the 4.0.4 update was probably the breaking point. Google released it, and it took Verizon's poor excuse for technical support to "approve" it to be pushed out... while the iPhone has updates available as soon as Apple pushes them out with no delay.
It's sad too, because I truly feel that Verizon's LTE network is the best around so far (at least the most available). I would love to buy a Nexus 4 with LTE capabilities, but knowing Verizon, their crappy silk-screened logo on the front, back, top, and sides will hike the retail price of it to $650 because they love their contracts.
There may not be another Nexus on VZW for a while, at least until the sunset of CDMA. If my memory serves me correct LTE is open.. So once we don't need CDMA for voice and a secondary data network, Google will be able to sell unlocked LTE phones to VZW customers.
I know there are people here more knowledgable than I am that could help put some more light to that, or maybe tell me where I am confused. I am pretty sure that is what I have read in the past.

LTE on vzw is open and will allow unlocked LTE devices on it.
the problem is voice service still demands their CDMA network and their LTE frequency is limited to vzw. until we get multiband VoLTE capable phones, you will more than likely never see a nexus phone on verizon.

[Q] What note 2 to buy next

I currently own a note 2 L900 sprint version flashed over to boost mobile. Right now I have it on ebay. I want to get one I can use with straight talk or other gsm providers. I hear it's easy to get the ATT version on straight talk. I also hear the Verizon version can be flashed over to straight talk but idk why if it was unlocked the apn couldn't be added to use straight talk. If anyone can clarify that please let me know. Also I see different versions for Verizon and different versions for ATT. Please help me in deciding the perfect note 2 for me! Thank you all very much for viewing and any input I may get on this. Also being able to go back to boost mobile might be a plus. Where I go Verizon is the best signal but I'm all done with paying such a high bill and only getting squat for data. Also I would like to add Sprint service sux!
ok, from what I gather the sprint/verizon phones can be used and run on verizon signal. Att and tmobile run on ATT. Anyone know if there's any phones that can be programmed to accept both signals. that would be fantastic. CDMA vs GSM would be the stopper but what about the 4s and it being CDMA and GSM?

this is so wrong that its not even funny. ever heard of the touch pro 2? a world phone with pentaband radios and a gsm sim card slot that runs cdma on sprint.
the moto photon was also a world phone as well as many blackberrys.

[Q] Is there any way to use the Tmobile S4 on Verizon?

Is there any way to use an unlocked tmobile s4 on verizon???? Can you flash a certain modem to make it work?

No. GSM phones are incompatible with CDMA networks.
verizon
I have a stock sgh-m919 and I gave my imei to Verizon over the phone, they stated they could not use my phone on a prepaid plan, but I did not inquire about a contract plan. Visit a store and ask questions.
I realize Verizon is CDMA, but I have seen those radio ROMs somewhere to change the frequency of the radio. I think it would require more than that, perhaps even an imei change, I don't really know, I'm just going out on a limb here.
From what I understand Verizon does use the 700Mhz band like AT&T but they use a different portion of the band, the upper is what I read. Google 700Mhz LTE, I think that it will come up.
good luck, let me know how that turns out.
Also, my mother has a Iphone 4S on Verizon and although I don't really like apple products, I do know that it has a sim card slot, so that taken into consideration, perhaps there is hope.

Well I've been traveling for a while now with T-Mobile service with my T-Mobile s4 *cough* *unlocked* *cough*, and it does pick up Verizon service and I am able to call and text due to the agreements the carriers have. So I don't see why not. And as to activating any phone on Verizon prepaid, you can't .only have the options they have.
