I personally use face unlock cuz it's more secure than slider but quicker than other security lock. So what do you use?

I wish I could say that I use the CyanogenMod lockscreen because lockscreen gestures kick some serious ass but I just can't give up access to the notification bar from the lockscreen, so I'm using WidgetLocker (with no lockscreen widgets).

Slide to unlock at home.
PIN out of the house.
Face Unlock is cool, but it is far from 100% chance of unlocking. Because of this, on the average its still faster to just use a PIN or Pattern.
I find that the Face Unlock feature is inefficient, because I can choose to open 3 extra apps on quad lock, but Face Unlock is only able to unlock the phone.
I must say I'm not a fan of face unlock. It works great and all but sometimes I just want to hit the power button, slide and get into an app quickly. I don't have time to wait for the camera to adjust the brightness level.
That being said I have been using the Codename Android lockscreen. It is highly customizable. I have chrome on there so I can get to browsing right away.
Here I use holo ;-)

When I set up my Exchange account on the phone, I had to accept corporate security's (Microsoft default?) device administrator, which enforced PIN lock.
Since then, my ... ummmm, esteemed colleagues ... in corporate security mandated that I install "mobile device management" software so they could screw around with my phone from remote and make it conform to their idea of security standards...
...on my personal device? I don't think so.
I deleted my corporate Exchange account from the phone and removed their entry from Settings > Security > Device Administrators.
Now I just use the slide unlocker.

Remember that Google Wallet exploit from a few days ago? The one that would allow*'brute-force' PIN attacks, but only on*rooted*Android devices? Well, another PIN-related security hole was discovered soon after, putting even non-rooted Androids at risk. As*Android Central points out, should your phone make its way into the wrong hands, your Google Wallet PIN number could be reassigned, allowing access to the prepaid account attached to the phone itself --*yikes. As such, the folks at Mountain View have taken action, shuttering provisions to prepaid cards until it finds a permanent fix for the problem. Despite the troubles, Google is sticking by its original tune, stating that Google Wallet offers multiples levels of protection (when used on*official*builds of Android) that go beyond traditional plastic cards, including your phone's lock screen. There's no estimate on when things will be back to normal, but you'll find Google's assessments and assurances about this situation at the source link below.

Sigh, and if you lose your wallet what happens?
Anyone using their phone to make payments SURELY has a pin or pattern lock to protect their phones data... Right?
Would this be why I couldnt' use my "Wallet" tonight? Said it couldn't connect to the bank to get my account number. (the guy at McDonald's sure was looking at me funning trying to pay with my phone LOL)

it appears the the bank in charge of the prepaid cards has pulled its authorizations, just tried to set my wife's Wallet up on her phone and got the message:
"Prepaid is unavailable at this time. Please try again soon."
swiping my card is much more faster than turn on, unlock, tap, enter pin, tap, and then hit sent.

Yeah, when I sign in to my wallet account it says "Cannot contact bank" under "user id"
*sigh*
of course there are attacks for this. they should make pinning your phone mandatory for wallet. just like when you encrypt your device, it forces you to use either pin, password, or pattern, no slide or face. just copy that...

I just fully enjoy the look on the cashier's faces when paying with phone, not all that convenient but quite entertaining. Its the small things in life that bring joy, right??

Absolutely. If I am forced to use a pattern/pin/password lockscreen in order to store my VPN credentials, Wallet should require the same - in addition to any security within the app.

Google's lockscreen PIN setup sucks. There should be an option to automatically unlock the phone once the correct PIN has been entered, without having to press OK.

That is an option on most community ROMs... but then you would be rooted and breaking the First Rule of Wallet -whoops!
I use the pattern anyway. Works just like a PIN (think of the grid as a number pad) and sliding a finger across the screen is almost as quick as slide-to-unlock.
Come on, Google, let me use Wallet again!
Gotta love having money online that you can't use, access, or transfer. I just transferred a nice chunk of my paycheck onto google wallet right before this happened.

Remove the root, relock bootloader. When you feel the need to update, do an adb backup, unlock and flash, restore backup, lock.

Me, I'd rather just keep the root. That's kind of the point of a Nexus device to me
so i lost my phone today... and i didnt have it password protected because i was using widgetlocker
does anyone know of an application that you can use a customized lockscreen, and have tight security?
How does widgetlocker not have the ability to use a password? that's crazy...
I use a program called Seek Droid.
You can track, lock, wipe, sound alarm, etc. I think it was only 99cents, but I bought it a couple of years ago.
Just run that and what ever lock screen you want

Go to the google play store and look up plan b. Hopefully it is still on and you can attempt to track it with that app.
Edit: Saw lost phone and was trying to help quickly. Disregard.
I was trying to set up a VPN on my phone and I was forced to set up a screen lock pattern. Otherwise you are not able to use a VPN. This is driving me crazy. Do custom roms cure this issue?
Does anyone even use a VPN? Anyone have a solution?
Yeah waiting for cm9. I could disable the pattern after enable VPN in cm9.
I was hoping one of the custom Sense roms would have solved this issue (or is this controlled from the kernel?) I'm not a big fan of AOSP roms. Maybe a third party app might help. I'm not fussed over which vpn protocol to use (IPSEC, PPTP, OPENVPN, etc...). Any ideas?
I'm wondering the same thing. I already had a screen lock set but wasn't able to remove it after a few days till I saw this post and realized it was because of me setting up a VPN. I hope there's a way on sense to setup a VPN without a forced screen lock.

I setup VPN first
I setup VPN first, so it asked me to set a password/pattern. I didn't want this security, but i guess it defeats the purpose of VPN
Set the lock time to 15min
Can we change/modify even the 15 min lock time to a possibly 1 day limit? It would be ok for me this way.
try to unlock your phone with wrong password or pattern. Then you have to wait for 30seconds but go to forgot password or pattern then provide your email ID and password then it will take you to the pattern Page or screen. Then do not set any password press the home button the you it won't ask you any password until you restart your phone.
It works on sgs 3

I think IOS has this right, just to take a quick pic I dont want to have to enter my pin code or do my security pattern.
You have the option to swipe left..but only with slide to unlock. I can't say I've seen any iPhone with that function though.

iphone 4s definitely has this feature even with Pin Code enabled, I have one in front of me.

Personally, I disagree ... If I lock my phone, I don't want people to be able to do anything with the phone. Isn't that the point of the lock?
Well, that's why we have these things called options.
I lock my phone because if I lose it or its stolen I dont want anyone to have access to my data...I dont care if the only thing they can do is take pictures...as a matter of fact I would encourage this so I can track them via GPS info on the pics

I bet if i didn't mention IOS in my OP I wouldn't have had all these unhelpful replies
Since when did Android become the land of no options/customizations?
The idea itself is quite nice.
Maybe android itself won't make it possible? I could imagine that there are just no permissions to execute anything without unlock. However the community is insane and solves problems like that.
I don't use any lock so I can't tell you if any rom I used so far had this kind of feature
How are the replies not helpful? The fact is you can't.

So it looks like you can do this with a few 3rd party apps.
Right now I am testing this Setting Profiles.
I have Profiles setup to disable Lock when connected to my home WiFi or my cars Bluetooth.
It has disabled the Lock Screen & Pin entering all together while home, but I will test this out more today during my travels.
If settings profile doesn't work well, then I will try this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.benhirashima.unlockwithwifi&hl=en
Unlock With Wifi which seems to do most of what I use Settings Profiles for anyway.
And Josh, most of the replies just said "why" would I want to do this.
Thanks Herman76 for pointing me in the right direction.

Delayed Lock
Update:
Although Settings Profile did what I wanted, it was screwing up my Bluetooth connection. (Seems the app hasn't been updated in months...)
Right now I am testing Delayed Lock Free Trial.
It has plug-in to disable the Pin Lock based on Wifi AP connected, Bluetooth Device or GPS Location...so it brings me to the slider unlock screen where I have my Camera as an option (AOKP)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...CwiZGUuajR2ZWxpbi5kZWxheWVkbG9jazIudHJpYWwiXQ..
AOKP gives you an option to view the standard slide lockscreen before viewing the secure lockscreen, but you still have to put in your pin/pattern after sliding over to the camera. This isn't what you're looking for, but it seems to be a bit faster than putting in the pin THEN opening the camera app (especially if you enable the quick pin unlock in Rom Control).
There's also the option of using the above method with face unlock. After sliding, you'd move to face unlock then open to the camera app.
Reasons
@RichAP your efforts are well appreciated as you did actually try to find a solution and not just bring reasons for 'why you shouldn`t use this feature', however I`ve come across the same question as the person who started the topic and I thought I`d give a more detailed explanation of what is the app he is looking for.
This could come quite handy to most users who may want to capture a picture close to 'instantly'. For example if you wanna challenge your camera`s ability to take a picture of a fast moving object such as your neighbor finally jumping off his house, having to put a password/pin/pattern would result in you missing the moment and you don`t want that. A better example is something which happened to me today. An idiot nearly drove into the car i was in, popped his head out of the window, started swearing at everyone and then drifts away. I wanted to take a picture of his number plate, in case anything would go sideways, but by the time i unlocked my phone he was long gone.
As the person who started the topic mentioned, this feature is available in iOS (i`ve seen it on iphone 4s about 2 months ago), but the security measures have been taken into account too; you can only take pictures, but you cannot view them unless you pass the security measures (therefore if your phone gets lost/stolen, whoever has it can only fill up your memory with pictures in the worst case scenario, but what`s that good for when you can`t access them ?). I personally hate apple with a passion, but this is the only feature i`ve come across which i couldn`t find on android yet. Of course now this is down to the developers if they are interested to implement this, i only showed under what circumstances you can use it. Oh and why does apple have it (and amazingly, doesn`t charge the users ridiculous amounts of money, it`s actually built-in the OS) and android doesn`t (even as a 3rd party app) is a good question, as apple never gives its users more than 1% on top of the very basic (for free).
I do apologize for jumping in quite late, however I just got a galaxy S3 3 weeks ago and I`ve just come across this today. If anyone found an alternative or something which is already on the market, may I please ask how do i find it ? Thank you in advance.
I'm sure with the 4.2 update you can take pictures even when the phone has a pattern/pin lock, or at least I can on the paranoid 2.99 beta9 rom
You can do that in 4.2

I dont know how many other people out there use androids built in vpn, but i don't like the fact that you are forced to use a pin or a password to do so. Security rules do not allow to use the fingerprint sensor, although this one is more secure than a pin ...
Has anyone found a way to bypass this without rooting the device?
If security is so easily overcome without root, then I would say Samsung/Google is doing a really ****ty job.
I hate the fingerprint scanner myself. Always have to swipe 3-5 times.
