So a few times a day my phone will start bugging out, vibrating and the same menu that would pop up if you pressed the menu button would come up. I find it pretty weird, I can't reproduce it but it comes and goes.

This kinda sucks because I have a feeling it's a hardware issue, I'm over my 14 days and I'm scared that I might get a phone with LOS. Damn I thought I almost got away with a problem free epic.......

tonight mine freaked out a little bit but not exactly the same as yours. My phone appeared to freeze up for a few seconds and then anytime I pressed any of the capacitive buttons the voice talk app would say "what would you like to do?" I had to reboot it to get it to stop.

I Google's it a bit and it looks like others have this issue as well. It used to only happen once a day but lately it's more often. Issue seems to be getting worse. I know for sure tho when I bring it to sprint it won't happen at all and I'll have to argue with them.

Well front desk girl almost ate this phone.... I felt kinda bad abt it afterwards.. Repair guy stayed behind the glass window... So after some pressure, they decided it was a hardware issue with the touch screen, an replaced the phone.

Yea, I get this issue every now and then. Some of the ROMs give me less frequency, but it always seems to happen again.

Damn, that doesn't sound right. I wouldn't wait if it happens anymore. If you don't have insurance, will they charge the $100 deductible?

Hello all. I am seeking help in trying to rid of a reboot bug that has been plaguing me for almost a month. I am not sure if this is a hardware bug or a software bug, but I had never encountered this problem before. I bought my phone two weeks after launch day.
Ok, first of all, I was on CM9 Alpha 4 for a week when my phone started rebooting itself at random times. Also, if I pressed on the power button to lock my phone, it would instead bring up the power menu. If I pressed the power button again it would reboot or reboot 1 minute later. I was getting more than 5 random reboots a day which affected my battery life drastically. Thinking this was a software issue, I used sfhubs EG30 full restore one click to go back to stock. Unfortunately, the bug still remained and my phone still had these same problems. I flashed Calkulins EL29 rom, and Blazer rom as well but the reboot bug still remains. Has anyone else experienced this or do you think this is a hardware issue? Any help would be appreciated.
By the sounds of if you might have a problem with the hardware power button
That can explain the reboots, your device might be hard rebooting because it thinks the power button is pressed in.
Any warranty on it?

That's what I had in mind, thanks. Yes, I have TEP. Will I have to pay for a replacement phone?

That's where he is . Lol but he tried many different roms all of which gave him the same problem, so I think its hardware related.

Had the same issue with another phone, stuck power button can be really annoying. Just making sure though...do you have a full body case on the phone? I did that once and my case was actually depressing my power button when I squeezed the sides of it!! Just something to check.
If you decide to get a replacement, consider using the factory warranty vs TEP. I think TEP has a high deductible. Bringing it to the Sprint store so they can do the warranty for you should cost about $35. Ask about turnaround time also.

I just got a used Epic Touch 4g from Cowboom. Today is the first day using it and I really like it. However I am having some weird issues. While the phone is on and I am either in a browser (Dolphin, Stock) or an app the 4 capacitve buttons will light up automatically. Then sometimes after they light up at the bottom of the screen the Options menu will show up. When this happens the phone haptic feed back goes off.
Anyone know what is going on and possibly a solution before returning? I really don't want to return this phone.
I'm having the exact same issue. It started doing this since I installed the "official" ICS. I didn't have this issue with GB. I have not gone back to GB since I really like ICS...

Mine does it all the time being that I never have good signal here in Tallahassee
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
Same here I noticed this randomly since I have been on Official ICS.
Has this phone been out for over a year? Since I bought it used I don't know if there is any manufacturer's warranty left on it. I didn't purchase insurance.
I had the same issue for months but only when cell service was crappy. They replaced the screen at the Sprint store and it never happened again.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
I had something similar going on. I called Sprint a few times and ended up going into one of the stores with a service center. I left it for about 45 minutes and the guy said the cable that connects the front capacitive buttons had come loose. I haven't had any issues like this in two months, simple fix. Also, I had an ICS rom on the device prior to the official release and the guy didn't say a thing.
Good luck.
Kyle
How long has this phone been out? Is there a one year manufacturers warranty? I may need to see if I can take advantage of that since I didn't purchase insurance.
this is a known issue, if you search the forum you'll find lots of examples of it, most have just taken it to sprint, even w/o insurance they probably fix it/swap it out for the $35 as this seems to be a common problem

I thought this was a common problem with AOSP builds.
It only happens to me when I lose signal.
But this is a hardware problem?

Yeah this is the first time I heard about it being a hardware (screen) issue too. I never had it happen across all GB ROMs, and just about every leaked ICS build. I didn't experience it until I flashed CM9.

I haven't experienced any button lockups, only phantom menu button spam when I hit a extremely low signal. This only happened to me in the 10 months I've owned this phone, after flashing CM9.
I've noticed this when plugged into a car charger and using navigation in spotty service areas. I always thought it was a heat/capacitance issue.

Is anyone elses note 2 randomly pressing the back button?
I've had it for around a month now with no issues but this just came up. Any idea?
I'm running Cleanrom on it if that makes a difference.
Haven't noticed this behavior at all on mine.
Yes happened to me I had to take it back

Yes I experience this on rooted stock. I have also noticed it do this for the "right click" button also. I don't know why. Thinking about flashing something to try and ditch it. I just love stock with nova. Don't really see a reason to switch. Battery life is amazing. It's fast enough to play need for speed most wanted without any pixel drops and it has the rarest slow down or crash. I just love it.
Expect for this stupid issue. >.< but it doesn't happen enough for me to be bugged. Probably every few days or less.

I'm completely stock and this has happened to me several times. I've found that locking it and unlocking it will stop it but it always happens again randomly. I'm planning on getting it exchanged. Hopefully it's just a few bad phones...
This just started happening a day or so ago but it's bothering me big time. I don't even have to press the button all the way down. Just put some minor pressure on it and it makes this clicking or crackling sound. It's not 100% of the time but it's doing it a good bit. Wondering if anyone has experienced this yet with their note 4.
Anyway, I was thinking of bringing it into best buy to exchange for another one. Is that possible? I don't have insurance or anything but being that it's only a couple weeks old, and obviously still covered by warranty, they should be able to exchange. My concern is they will probably look at me like I'm crazy. But when I spend a lot of money on a device, and it's only a couple weeks old and making this noise already, it's quite annoying. My gf has a note 4 too and her button isn't anything like this so it concerns me.
nope. mines incredibly solid.

Same. I mean I know if I go into best buy asking to exchange, they're gonna look at me like I'm crazy for complaining about it. The other problem is it doesn't help all the time. Sometimes I press it and it's fine, other times it does make that noise. So it's hard to reproduce the noise due to it being at random.
My home button has a solid clicking sound, like the rest of the buttons. If yours doesn't sound like the rest of the buttons when they are pressed, you should consider exchanging.

Yeah I think I'm going to go in to best buy tomorrow. Do you need to be able to reproduce the issue for them to exchange? It is definitely still doing it, but not 100% of the time.

Not yet. I had an S4 and Note 3 that did, though. It was quite annoying, and I don't miss it. My N4 is really solid aside from the acceptable volume rocker play.
