Connectify is the most easiest method, i dont think the Xperia Play can recognise Ad Hoc Connections, try changing the settings on Connectify

Remotedroid connects via LAN, not USB.
Thanks though
Try GMOTE.
Edit.
GMOTE is a wifi app as well, not sure about usb.

Sorry, don't know any that work over USB or bluetooth. I use PhoneMyPC personally, but again, it works over wifi.
Maybe someone should start making an app for this then

I have been using this app since for ever. . ."GRemote Pro" - the best way to control PC using PDA. . .
Here's some of it's compatibility:
control your PC over WiFi, Bluetooth or 3G
use your PDA as mouse, keyboard,
joystick or remote controler to PC
Hope this helps
I highly recomend REMOTEDROID both Mouse and keyboard controller .. no lag

Is anyone able to connect to internet using barnacle wifi on your phone. My thrive doesn't see the connection. It can find the connection to the paid tether but not barnacle.

Barnacle won't work without rooting your thrive. Google wifi tether download and look for the latest beta. It did the trick for me.

Barnacle uses ad-hoc which is not native to the Thrive. If you root the device, there is a patch for ad-hoc support.
tether wifi
There are two options here root your thrive and install the new wpa file or get your rooted phone to run in ap mode instead of adhoc mode. wif tether is now running ap mode if you have the right kernal and hardware to use it
hello, sorry for my english, i'm french, so, after the ics update (mk16i) stock rom, it's impossible to connect pc over the wifi, with gb 2.3.4 we haven't this issue .
how to fix it please ?
To connect the phone to wifi ?
To connect the pc to wifi ?
To connect the phone modem ?
Typed down from the sky with sexy LT15i
no to connect phone to pc over the wifi, not with the wire usb .
it's possible on gb why not on ics? is it a bug? is it a downgrade to sony?
I use a program called myphoneexplorer it is a phone management tool, it installs a small app on the phone I connect to computer using this.
What are you running on computer vista or win7 both of these make connecting a walk in the park, win xp is s bit more involved

win 7 but it's work with gingerbread, why after upgrade to ics it doesn't work? it's very stupid from sony
I think he speaks about wifi-tethering.
I have the same issue since ICS update and don't know how to fix it.

What are you trying to do exactly? Your question isn't clear as to what your goal is.

it's simple
with gingerbread we can connect the phone to the pc with the wifi, access sd card... synchronize contacts etc.... without cable
after the upgrade ics we can't
This should be in the Q and A section not general. Please post in the correct section next time

of course, sorry
i use airdroid and i wait the wifi connection to lan backing.
what about sony with this issue ?
I use WiFi File Explorer Pro and have no issues with transferring stuff from the laptop and vice-versa.
he wants to connect directly with wifi
smartphone - PC companion
yes that's all right
same issue here, this would be a big DOWNgrade from GB to ICS.

After some research I've discovered an app bundle called Droidmote Server and Droidmote Client. It claims to be working with Xperia Play's physical controls. However I haven't found any video proof, only a couple of vague xda posts.

Personally, I don't mind the touchpads not working, as long as the gamepad is responsive. How is it? When connecting, phone and tablet via Wifi HOtspot, does data get eaten up?
