[Q] Phone switches on when charging... but only after a few hours - HTC One X

Simple one this one - I usually switch my phone off and charge it overnight. But when I wake up, my One X is sitting on the PIN unlock screen, so at some point it has switched itself on. Does everyone's do this? Or is it a bug?

Are you using the stock recovery or the new battery fix one from CWM?
it has been reported that this happens with hte latest version of the CWM recovery and also suggested that this is to prevent the phone from overcharging.

I'm on 5.8.2.7, will give the update a try. Sounds like it may indeed be an overcharging-prevention measure

Couple questions about rom manager

1. When I power my device down and connect the charger ClockWorkMod Recovery pops up, Why is that? Is there a way to turn that feature off so my device is completely turned off while charging???
2. Is it safe to charge in recovery? To leave the fone idle for a number of hours can't be safe especially with the words and icons being displayed don't want those images burned into my screen. . .
3. After powering down at 99% I let my battery charge for a bit and not even a hour later I see the fone rebooted itself and I'm back at my home screen with the battery saying 'charged' is that normal???
Thanks in advance
1. It's a bug. 4EXT Touch Does address this, as well as a plethora of bugs from CWM.
2. Yes - I had also experienced the above bug when I was using CWM. I put my phone to charge, then slept. Next morning, the phone was idling on recovery. But I still strongly suggest you use 4EXT, as it is faster and safer.
3. Never heard of this...Ideally the led will turn green, but the phone won't turn on by itself.

I'm using a new 1520mah battery from the EVO 4G Design maybe that's why the device rebooted? not too long before this I left the phone charging for say 4 to 6 hrs and the led never turned green it stayed at orange.
When I rebooted the battery info said 'charged'
Highly unlikely. My guess is it's another issue with CWM. For all we know it could be a random tap of the power button, after all that's all it takes to power it up.

Charging my DZ almost every night and never had this issue.
You should consider using 4ext instead of CWM.
Older version of cwm had that problem, but was fixed a long time ago

The issues still present, I'm using the latest version of cwm.
For me, i always charge my phone only when it runs out. When i plug my charger in, it boots to recovery, but if i leave it for a while, it just shuts off. It seems that CWM doesn't stay on when my phone is on low battery or something.

Charge when it reaches 10 - 5% then tap the power button as soon as you see the recovery menu pop up, it'll bring up a screensaver that should stop it from shutting off.
Don't know why anyone would day 4EXT is "safer", though I'm happy to be educated.
If you leave it for a minute in that state with CWM started, the screen will turn off again so it's no problem, just a slightly irritating bug.

Well, from experience with CWM5 I had a lot of issues with backups. Either MD5 checks would fail or booting after restore would have me stuck at the htc screen. So from that aspect of view, 4EXT is somewhat safer. On second thought, reliable would be a more fitting attribute. Just my 2 cents.

HTC One X gets out of sleep mode on his own.

My problem is simple, my HTC One X wakes up on his own. It acts as if I had pressed the power button to get to the locker screen.
It's very random. It can go hours without doing it and then it wakes up several times in a row.
What can cause this ?
No one else experiencing this? I had this problem for awhile too.
last time my acer iconia a500 gt tis issue due to wifi sleep policy, may u try google a500 wake/sleep issue...hope tis help
I asked the same question as my HOX would wake up over night whilst being charged.....
What I was told is that HTC built in something that means if the phone is put on charge with less than 50% battery left it will turn itself back on once fully charged!
More than 50% and it won't...
Dunno whether that helps or not?

Which ROM are you using?
I'm on ViperX for the time being and I'm pretty sure it's related to my ROM...but only happens during charging...
In some messages I have seen that if "System Tuner App" is installed it causes something like that... I don't know if it is really related with our issue cause I did not uninstall System Tuner to check it out...

I guess you are talking about HoX's getting on while charging AND when you leave the device OFF...
But the situation here is when you turn off the screen only and leave it like that while charging...

Not charging while shutdown

I have a weird issue with charging while phone (HTC One X + Venom 2.1.0) is off. I discovered it when I was trying to extend my battery life using one of the tricks floating around.
The trick says that you should shut off the phone when charged 100% and left it with the charger connected. Whan I did it after 30 minutes I have noticed that the phone was already on (! - pressed the power button) and the battery level was 90%, decreased 10%. I shut the phone off and left it for 30 minutes more and the same thing happened when I wanted to start it again, the only diffrence was that the battery level was 70%. Decreased 30% in 1 hour when it should have been off!
Further testing shows that the unit refuses to charge the battery if I connect the usb cable after shutting off. That's weird... Anyone who have seen a similar behaviour? Could any of you confirm that charging is working when shut off, hopefully anyone that also run the Venom ROM, altough I don't think it has something to do with the ROM as the phone is initially shut off!
When the phone is off its in recovery. Flash latest cwm and it should be fine

I've already checked the CWM version (5.8.4.0) and even re-installed (from the ROM Manager) but the behaviour is the same

Issue solved by reflashing the recovery (touch). Thanx för guiding me right.

I have the same problem, i flashed and reflashed the recovery but still not working
How did you flashed it? Hopefully not with rom manager, did you?

Phone will not wake from sleep, needs reboot, massive battery drain

So, a few things: First, I used Sunshine on my phone last Wednesday to put the newest T-Mobile firmware on my phone. Prior to doing these two things, this problem did not exist. I am on ViperOne 3.5, chose T-Mobile as my carrier and was very careful in setting things up.
First two or so times I would notice my phone was not waking up, so I held down the power button to restart and after it turned on there was a very large battery drain (30-50%). After this I decided that maybe the firmware was the issue, so I fastboot flashed a fullwipe version through fastboot (originally I had done a no wipe flash) and restored backup nandroid from TWRP. After that the problem persisted, so I thought maybe it was a rom conflict and did a clean install of Viper 3.5, thought everything would be good but while in the car it did it again. This time I caught it quick (I had used my phone maybe five minutes before and when I restarted the battery drain was less than 5%. But seeing as I've done a clean install of both the firmware and the rom now, I'm sort of at a loss for what to do.
Has anyone heard of this, or would anyone have tips on what to do? Can provide additional info if needed, just want to get this worked out. I've been lucky so far and it's done it while I didn't need power. If it were to do it during work when I can't check the phone for a while, it could lead to the entire battery being depleted.
::EDIT:: I should also add that this happened once when I was asleep, and I found that the phone would not charge when in this state, as the orange light was not on when I woke up and I had to reboot the phone. Again, extremely weird and it only started after Sunshine and firmware change, nothing else.
This "sleep of death" thing has happened to me a few times, though I have not seen the battery drain. I have not figured out what is causing it.

I actually just caught it and tested some more out. Tried plugging it into a wall and it won't charge. Also tried plugging it into a computer and it will not recognize. The only two things I have changed are the firmware version, and running sunshine through it. I'm actually pretty worried since it won't even interface with a computer until rebooted. Also went from 90ish% to 77 in a matter of 15 or so minutes

Major problems twice with venomrom for HTC One m9 need help please!

So I have the HTC One M9, I rooted it, unlocked the boot loader wiped the rom, installed venom and cleared cache. I had numerous problems with it like crashes and settings going back to original. I installed sunshine to do s-off and updated to the newest venom for the m9 and it upgraded my radio and firmware. I liked the updated version more...but...now to the issues:
Phone shuts off at 20%-50% I try to boot back on and it says 0% battery. I plug back in and phone turns on and says 26% or whatever it was before it shutdown, then minutes later it shuts down and after plugging it in and booting up it actually shows 1%...this never happened until I upgraded it. Sometimes after the phone shuts down all my settings go back to it was before I customized everything and I have to log in to all my Google accounts and my keyboard dictionary looses all my saved words and it pisses me off.
Has anyone experienced this with venom on the HTC m9 ...my m7 never had issues, but both versions on my m9 have been nothing but problems and I love the venom rom because it's so customizable. But now I'm thinking about going to other roms

M8 and M9 both exhibit the same thing as a battery gets worn out.... I would say you need a new battery
It's been said that setting extreme power save to kick in at a percentage higher than when it fails can prevent it.
also, some have said doing the three finger battery calibration may help, but some have also said it doesn't last.
the supposed official HTC battery recalibration steps:
recalibrate your battery by doing the following steps:
◦Go to Settings and disable Fast Boot.
◦Turn off the phone.
◦Charge the phone using your HTC charger for at least two minutes.
◦While the M8 (M9) is charging, press and hold down the following buttons: Volume Up, Volume Down, and Power.
◦Continue holding the three buttons for at least two minutes. The phone will repeatedly turn on and off every 15 seconds while you’re doing this.
◦After 2 minutes, release the buttons when the phone is on.
◦Let the M8 charge normally.
If the phone shut off between 25% - 50%, the battery is dying and only hold 75% or less of its original capacity.
My M8 used to do that. Only new battery could help
I figured I had battery issues, I purchased this on eBay as a refurbished model because it previously had battery issues but it being refurbished I thought it was fixed, it maybe the seller was full of crap. I'm gonna attempt to call HTC and see if there's a records of this, I didn't have any luck with the battery recalibration method mentioned above (and I google it. And that is the official recalibration method), I was reading that after installing custom ROM battery should be recalibrated so I'm gonna delete the battery.bin file through twrp at 100% and give that a try...
I just don't understand why if the phone died because battery is dead, why when I boot my phone back up all my settings and customisation's wiped out and back to normal like as if I just installed the ROM, and log me out of my Google accounts and delete my keyboard dictionary
