After cracking open my KF
i saw a potential mod that maybe can be done SWITCHING LIGHT CENSOR WITH CAM.
am not the expert here but can someone advise why this wouldn't work.
the camera technically is a light censor that capture the light difference and translate it to digital data and get pushed to device.
the light censor has 4 cable connecting to the board. 2 for power and the 2 for data.(maybe)
if any MOBILE cam have the same specs maybe we just need to replace this by this.
can the experts here shed some light on this topic and advise
I think it cant be possible, because unless you find a camera that has the same communication algorythm as the sensor, the cpu wont communicate properly with the camera.
If you are aware that you could harm your kindle, try it and post the results
I'm no technical genius in this regard, but I'd think your camera would also need drivers, even if you got it to work, and fit, in that spot. It'd be a cool mod, no doubt...

Using the flashlight app that has rolled out with the newest OTA update, is it possible that the front-facing LEDs can wear out quicker than normal? I would imagine that they were originally engineered with the camera flash in mind, where power is pulsed and not continuous. I think this functionality is really cool, I just don't want to hurt my phone is all.
What does the xda forum think?
P.S. This forum is a wealth of information. I've learned so much about my phone already.
It will be fine, unless you were to have it plugged in, charging, and the LED's on full brightness 24/7, there should be no problem.
Thanks for the help. I can now sleep better at night knowing this fact. At the very least, I can also see better in the dark too
After having my KF since the day it was released, I just noticed today that it appears to have a camera in the top left corner (in the black border of the screen). It might just be a light sensor, but seems too big to be that.
Anyone know anything about this?
I know the KF has Bluetooth built-in, but, as far as I know, nobody has figured out how to turn it on yet (while they have with the Nook). Whether it is a camera or light sensor, it definitely is another unused feature that exists. (Unless there is some light sensing things going on that I haven't noticed.)
nope thats a light sensor dunno that it even functions the kindle doesnt have bluetooth
Well, don't know if I can trust your answer because you aren't aware of the fact that the Kindle Fire does have the Bluetooth components installed on the board.
The Nook is the same with the Bluetooth, both devices came with it built-in, but not a feature that was able to be turned on. But with the Nook, rooting it, and changing kernels (or something... I haven't bothered to read up on it because I don't own one), you can enable the Bluetooth for use. The last I read about the Fire's Bluetooth is that they are speculating that even though the chip is there, it isn't actually connected to anything.

The little camera the Kindle has is a light sensor. However it is not implemented on the device because it plainly just sucks since it is like a $0.01 component and the driver for it is poorly made. So Amazon hasn't bothered working on fixing it for that reason. It's so much easier with the brightness controls being neatly accessible at the top of the screen anyway.
The chips themselves have the markings of the bluetooth enabled ones, but like you've read, there's nothing connecting them. So it's pointless for the devs here to get it working when we'd all have to open our devices to the point of ruining them.

Cool, thanks.
Granted, even a lame light sensor would be cool to have so closing my case could put the Fire in sleep mode, instead of having to press the power button. But it isn't that big of an issue.
Hi, I'm searching for a small portable easy-go lens for short distance zooming in, for about x2~x3.
I have found some stuff like this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/10x-Zoom-Te...er_Cell_Phone_Accessories&hash=item53f68155bb
Which are too complicated and expensive,
and also found some stuff like this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-in-1-Came...er_Cell_Phone_Accessories&hash=item4854a9eb0e
Which IS portable and super easy to install, you simply slide it over the phone and its in.. but I only found macro zooms, and not distance.
Perhaps any of you experts could help me (and maybe trigger some other's desire for it) find something like it?
I doubt that there is exist anything particularly to my phone (Xperia Z) so any universal is good
Thanks ahead!
Yarden.
p.s: if i'm not in the right place to ask this, please transfer me or lead me to there, I believe Q&A is less matching.
check out sony qx100........i hope it will satisfy your needs :cyclops:
Hi one of the reasons I'm interested in getting a LG G4 is because it can take raw pictures. There are a few things I'm wondering:
1) Can raw pictures be captured with third party apps?
2) I'm interested in using an external DSLR flash with the LG G4's camera. I wonder if it's possible?
1. The app pro shot can capture raw and does a better job than stock. Search the photo thread for pro shot. But it won't give you a shutter time longer than 0.5s. No 3rd party app will allow 30s shutter.
2. you require a flash with an optical trigger. The external flash has to be setup as a slave. This means looks for a red window on a flash and the idea is the flash on the G4 triggers the bigger flash. Do test this out some optical triggers are more sensitive and will work others won't. Unfortunately led flash on the g4 isn't as powerful as a zenon.
let us know if you find some thing that works. Can get some cool water splashes

Thanks!
I don't think phone LEDs will be powerful enough to trigger my nikon external flashes. I've seen some audio jack converter triggers but they're, unfortunately, exclusively for the iphone only.
Try with different flashes, some might work.
Distance of flash to G4 will matter. Close enough all will work. Question is what is your minimum distance.
Apps for iphones include:
isyncflash
triggertrap (lacks a lot of features on the android version)
not sure about android...

Since I have a few flashes, I can get one of them to be as close to the LED as I can...
All speedlights.
How close do you have to be to trigger them ?

phone can be a few cm from the closest one. if one speedlights fires then all speedlights will fire.
I hope sync won't be a big issue since i'm talking about ~1/30s shutter speed
i'm asking when you tested with the nikon flashes how close the G4 needed to be to actually get the nikon flash to fire.

There's some confusion here. I haven't got the G4 yet, I'm just constructing a list of what accessories to buy...
So I'm the one asking the question! Though my experience with other phones plus some googling tell me that the LEDs probably won't trigger the speedlights at all...

ok, have you tried with any other phone that has an led flash to get the speedlites to trigger. How close does the led have to be.
if that works then g4 should as well.

Mmm, I wonder if optical trigger would work. Smartphone LED flashes are long duration, unlike real camera flashes, so I have to wonder if they would trigger in sync with exposure...
As mentionned in another post, you could check Triggertrap, but on their site they do state that Android doesn't work too well, and their flash trigger isn't compatible with some Nikon flashes either (do check).
Anyway, how would you use your Nikon flashes? Seems rather cumbersome, you might as well use them on your dslr with an eyefi card and transfer afterwards to the phone.
If you are interested in offcamera flash, the iBlazr2 bluetooth LED flash could an interesting accessory, much more portable than a SB flash:

Since I have a foldable umbrella with silver lining that I always carry with me in case of rain, I'm thinking of using it as a light modifier for softer lighting, hence a powerful xenon flash would be necessary.
After all, carrying a single flash in my bag + a phone is way lighter than carrying a DSLR+lens+flash.
Now it looks like the idea is getting more difficult to achieve without making my own electronics and coding my own app... I only intend to use the flash for stills. So a shutter of 1/30s will be fine and should be too hard to get the flash to fire within this long time..
Ok silver umbrella, nice.
I still think that syncing the flash to the camera exposure must be very tricky...
Syncing a continuous (led) light on the other side seems easier, as intended in the iBlazr2. I can see though that it is rather underpowered for your purposes.
Another similar yet more powerful option could be the announced Lume Cube: http://www.lumecube.com/
Obviously these devices are not yet out and there are no reviews.
Incidentally, since you are interested in taking photos in raw format:

<sigh> then that idea is out the window. Damn it! The camera is excellent but if only there were more lighting options.
Optical triggers on these flashes are programmed for xenon not led. and nobody makes an led trigger.
what about sound ? would a certain shutter sound be good enough. the flash will most likely be delayed though.
Someone made a bluetooth trigger for iphone
www.tricflash.com
only iphone as they don't have the budget for other devices. It's interesting they mention that the way the iphone camera works was the hardest obstacle. So no chance of this coming to android as cameras can work differently among vendors. Still people are sceptical that bluetooth is fast enough.
When i think back to videos i've seen of studio like photos from phones most were using continuous light. Since your shutter isn't exactly fast, this might be your best bet. I thought you were trying to go for faster exposures.
I got to try a galaxy k zoom in a studio setup once and everything flashed. The cheapest toy camera with a xenon will do it too.
Still the G4 camera interests me.

Hi! Well. It's not like you are walking around with all that equipment in your pocket? What's the real point.?
LG G4 has a great camera for a smartphone. But it's sensor is really small and nothing compared to even 6+ year old DSLRs. Why not get a normal camera for your fixed setup?
Hey there,
Its not possible to get a AF picture /video. pictures blurred and washed out..
i checked out theres an OIS build in, and i think its going crazy and i would like to know if its possible to disable the function. Thanks everybody..

No way. I had this same issue, it's a hardware failure, unfortunately. Only way is to replace the camera module or the whole phone. Fortunately mine had the warranty yet, so I've got a replacement phone.

I expect that response..
but as u can see in my second link, there had someone sucess with disabling that feature..
i mean, the OIS ist not really broken, it looks like its out of calibration. so maybe theres a possibility to turn it off or to calibrate it again?..

The OIS is simply a 2-axis gyroscope and actuator built into the camera module. The camera module is a stand-alone subsystem with it's own firmware independent of the OS. These are typically robust from a firmware perspective and have self-calibration routines upon power up, so if rebooting your phone doesn't solve the issue, it's likely not a calibration problem.
Based on your reported symptoms, it sounds more the like the focus sensor has malfunctioned and it keeps snapping around to find the focal point. I suppose it's possible it's a broken gyro or actuator (both are MEMS devices and relatively fragile) but the simple troubleshooting I would recommend is to make sure the camera lens is clean and that there is no dust or moisture underneath. If that doesn't work, I would do a factory reset to make sure there isn't a rogue camera app running on your phone. If all that fails, it's likely an unrecoverable hardware fault.

I already did a full factory reset.. didnt help so far And the lens looks clean so far..
When i just shake the phone a bit for a while it gets a focused pic. (the gyro stops making these noisy sounds..)
But isnt there maybe a way, like in my first link to edit the build to prevent the gyro from starting?
I just try out if this (https://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/mod-jitterygyrofixforcardboard-t3202149) supposed to help

If shaking temporarily gets it working again, than it is likely the actuator has debris in it that's causing it to jam. Being a MEMS device, it's prone to little pieces of the silicon chipping off which in turn get stuck in the actuation motor. I have some familiarity with the InvenSense gyroscope in the Fire phone, and while it has it's own quality issues, I never saw failures that resulted in the symptoms you are seeing.
Unfortunately, there aren't any consumer available tools I'm aware of to turn off the OIS portion of the camera module.
Edit: Forgot to mention, the UX gyro is completely separate from the OIS gyro. Two totally different chips. Turning off the UX gyro won't help your issue.
Just wanted to share this video with my issue: https://forums.androidcentral.com/ask-question/637735-camera-keeps-shaking-hardware-fault.html
Just to share my results.. there is a fix. Just put a little stripe of neodym magnet next to the lens and the gyro stops moving..
thats the cheapest solution tho
