[Q] Evo 4g rom with tablet mode or honeycomb? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

does such things exist, my evo 4g is no longer in service, but that wont stop me from rooting and customizing it how i like it. i was wondering if there are any roms based with a tablet mode or honeycomb

What do you mean "tablet mode"? There are no honeycomb roms for this phone, those roms are literally for tablets only.
Really, all you need to do is turn airplane mode on, then turn wifi on. You can do everything except call and text.

Yeah, no Honeycomb for phones.. just tablets.
Although, heres an ICS ROM that has the tablet mode baked in as an option- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1568308
Or another ICS ROM that works well with tablet mode- http://forum.aokp.co/page/releases/_/build-33-r18
Heres the tablet mode that you flash through recovery for the second ROM- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1593593

Maybe this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1542036 is what you want.
The last version (quite a while ago) I tried was pretty decent.

I think dark light ics by Mazdarider has the tablet mode, you can enable it by setting the dpi to a certain level search ics tablet mode dpi calculator here on xda it will tell u what dpi u need to be at. The et4g which is also 800x400 Res is 118dpi to trigger tablet mode

No Bluetooth in Airplane mode
I want to accomplish the same thing. Only problem I have is Bluetooth is completely deactivated in Airplane Mode. Any workarounds for this?

I am using the unofficial CM9 and in airplane mode I am able to turn on bluetooth.

[Q] Need Help Disabling all Phone Functionality

My 6y/o daughter wanted something similar to an iPod Touch or a Nintendo DS and since she is already familiar with the use of EVOs as my wife and I both have one we decided that would be the better route. Since there are no game cartridges to lose and for the iCrap my overal disdain for Apple. I will be installing CM7 on her EVO instead of having to deal with Sense. I am looking for her to basically have a media player keeping wifi and bluetooth functionality.
I know I can delete the mms.apk and phone.apk to remove the apps or I could hide them using LauncherPro. And I can deactivate the radio on each startup by using *#*#INFO#*#*, but would prefer to permanently turn off the phone radio off so it doesn't have to be done on each reboot. I could use airplane mode but I really want something more permanent than that even as little fingers can disable that.
I plan to delete the icons for the phone radio once this is complete so it doesn't show no signal all the time.
Any tips on how to permanently turn the phone radio off?
I actually do this myself on my second evo. I use CM 6.1.2 and just use airplane mode. I took the rom apart and pulled out everything i could. Basically there is only 20 system apks that you must have, or the phone will not boot or let you install anything. I haven't find anything better then airplane mode, but it seems to work great.
Keep in mind this wont allow you to do anything but play games. If you want music or photos, you need to leave those apps in.
Actually here is the list:
CM\AccountAndSyncSettings.apk
CM\ADWLauncher.apk
CM\CMParts.apk
CM\Contacts.apk
CM\ContactsProvider.apk
CM\DefaultContainerService.apk
CM\DownloadProvider.apk
CM\DrmProvider.apk
CM\LatinIME.apk
CM\MediaProvider.apk
CM\PackageInstaller.apk
CM\Phone.apk
CM\Settings.apk
CM\SettingsProvider.apk
CM\Superuser.apk
CM\TelephonyProvider.apk
GAPPS\GoogleServicesFramework.apk
GAPPS\MarketUpdater.apk
GAPPS\SetupWizard.apk
GAPPS\Vending.apk
Yeah I am really looking for something more permanent than Airplane mode but if I must that is something I can do. I am sure there must be a way to disable the radio I just need to find it. Also, Airplane mode disables bluetooth and GPS both are functionalities I would prefer to retain.
Is that what you leave in or take out? If it is what you leave in are you not able to remove the phone.apk?
1) Samsung has a "Galaxy Player" coming out. Basically Galaxy Player is to Galaxy S what iPod Touch is to iPhone. I wouldn't recommend anything samsung though.
2) Just give her an unactivated phone. It's guaranteed not to call or text...and one with a bad esn will be cheeep. It can only connect to the internet through wifi though.
EDIT: With unactivated phone GPS and bluetooth will still work.

Those are the ones i leave in. Phone wont work as the phone isn't activated. I don't use bluetooth or GPS, wifi works fine with airplane though. I found deleting the phone.apk caused it to FC alot.
I've already picked up a used EVO on the cheap, it isn't activated but it has a good ESN though which is a plus. I know it can't make regular calls or do text messaging (it can still dial 911 though as all unactivated phones can). My reason for wanting to eliminate all of the phone functionality is to save battery as it won't search for service, currently it still connects to the towers and if out of service it still searches.
Again just wanting to make more permanent changes than just using Airplane mode or widgets that small fingers can easily change.

OIC. I have something you can try.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=887957
People say that it is just a placebo effect but I think it worked for my nook color. The battery life feels better. If something goes wrong you can just reflash cm and try again.
EDIT: On an evo you should probably delete mms.apk or sms.apk or whatever its called. I hope this works for you. If not you might need a custom rom built from the ground up to be non functional.

[Q] EI22: hardware buttons don't dim?

After upgrading to gingerbread, EI22, I noticed that my hardware buttons don't dim any more. Under display settings, I do have keyboard dimming set, but it doesn't seem to help. Normally it shouldn't be a big deal, but I use my phone for a bedside clock, and they are kinda bright
So far tried with both Legenday and ICS ROMs, with 3-4 different themes, they all seem to do that
Any ideas?
Thank you!
Auto Brightness perhaps? Keep it on and I've heard it may dim the capacitive buttons.
Both controlled by the same driver.

Just tried different combinations of Automatic Brightness and Power Saving Mode, they both don't seem to have any effect
i wish we could disable those buttons at will but afaik it would require a kernel to completely disable them. or at least thats how kernels on the moment worked, they came with LEDon or noLED versions

So that's a new feature of 2.3 kernels?
It was fine for me on stock rooted EI22. If I flash any other ROM or kernel, they stay on in night clocks. It was like this for CM7 1024 build as well. I thought I read in the CM7 thread that it will be fixed in a new build, but don't quote me on that. ;P
oh, sweet! Thank you guys!
I have a similar problem with ACS ICS ei22. The lights simply never turn off when the screen is on even though I have the screen set for 30 seconds and the light set to 6 seconds.

[Q] CM7 - have to reboot after flight for data

I have just gotten this phone a few weeks ago and so far i am having a great time. However, one of the biggest problems i have is toggling flight/airplane mode.
Whenever I turn on airplane mode and then it off, I have to reboot to get my mobile data back.
My phone is currently running CM7.
Any help would be appreciated..i have tried searching for a solution but i have found nothing.
bump....any1?
Yes this is a known bug with the alpha CM7 releases out there and I ran into it as well. After turning off flight mode you will notice that your APN's disappear and rebooting is the easiest way of getting them back and re-establishing your data connection. No other workarounds with the code at the level that it is.
The current iteration of cm7 is an outdated bug ridden ROM. It is what it is and is not going to be fixed. Use something else and just wait till the new cm that Eugene and others is working on gets released.

Is there a working Auto Airplane app for 4.2?

I really miss my auto airplane app (by DON) working up until the last couple JB updates.
Does anyone that is on the current JB N7 version have a working auto-airplane app functioning properly?
I'm fully stock not rooted.

Just use Green Power, Setting Profiles Lite, or Tasker... Never heard of what you're talking about.
No need to go into airplane mode, i assume you're just wanting to turn off wifi? Bluetooth uses zero power when not active.
I use Widgetsoid. Use airplane on my phone, not my N7 (use wifi on it). Almost infinite customization.

screen wont rotate

as of today my s3 will not rotate from portrait to landscape, when i am messaging/ on the internet, nothing, ive reboot phone, ive checked and unchecked auto rotate screen, ive reset everything in CWM, and nothing seems to be working at all ive switched from stock rom to custom rom and still screen doesnt rotate at all, but will rotate on an app in landscape mode only but that's it, i hope someone can help me, ive got in touch with samsung and they have me do what ive already have been and that if i turn it in for repairs, it will cost me some money, if this is hardware issue wouldnt it be covered under the warranty? anyways i am the sprint version, but i have it flashed over to page plus cellular, everything was working great up until today.
Something might have happened to your accelerometer. Get a spirit level app and see of it works.

Depending on the rom, aosp/tw, you are using a launcher that supports rotating AND have it checked to rotate in the launcher?

i have SS ODEXED BLUE HOLY GRAIL, and it has worked for me before but when i downloaded bakery story which is in landscape mode only, i noticed that is when i can only go into landscape mode is when i play that game or use an app that is landscape only,
ive used all sorts of different calibration/accelerometer and nothing is working so i reinstall bakery story again to see if i can get into landscape but ONLY on the game or other landscape app, so i have no idea as to how to fix this, doesnt sound like its hardware since i can still get into landscape but just not in text/internet/picture gallery, etc
Try to clean flash another from first and if that doesn't work you may have to get a replacement phone.
There was a thread a while back and I think the guy reverted to stock and just took it to the Sprint Store.

so did just that odin flash stock rom and it is still the same, i guess its not the end of the world since i dont really do landscape or especially prefer so just wanted to see if there is anything that can be done to fix...but its just strange that when i play racing games or any other game it will go into landscape and then rotate back normal.
