Rooting problem - Samsung Captivate Glide

I'm having an issue trying to root my Captivate Glide
I've installed the correct Samsung drivers
Using the ODIN 3 method I've followed everything correctly
put phone in download mode, fire up odin 3, plug in phone
ODIN 3 doesn't recognize my device (NOTE: I did run ODIN 3 as admin)
and the Gingerbreak method sticks in an infinate attempt
SuperOneClick freezes up
Any other suggested methods or solutions? Is this happening to anyone else?

i had the same/similar trouble getting the usb drivers to take i wound up pointing the windows "install from location" to "android SDK tools\extras\google\usb_driver" thats installed w/ andriod sdk tools & it finally recognized the device in odin. im honestly not sure if thats what solved the problem but it worked when my milestone would recognize under android commander.

[Q] I'm Convinced my phone is Bricked

I just purchased this phone (i9100) last night after a long travel to track it down. today I simply wanted to update the firmware on it and I was using Odin3 v1.85 to do it but It failed and stayed like that for an hr with the phone in the download mode. I finally disconnected the phone and started it back up and it said " firmware upgrade encountered" with the phone on icon on the left a yellow triangles in the middle and a computer on the right side. Almost looks as though the symbols and words are cutting off the screen.
I can boot into the Download mode but the computer does not recognize the phone anymore nor does Odin or Kies. So I cant even attempt to re-flash the damn thing... I'm so upset right now and feel like taking a hammer to this damn phone...
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've don't everything when it comes to drivers uninstalling Kies, using other computers without Kies installed, different ports and cables. I've done it all as far as i can see.... also I cant return the damn thing as i didn't buy it from a store. so im **** out of luck if i cant get this working.... PLS HELP!
Are you sure you are downloading the right version of the drivers? I ask because it sounds like you bought the international galaxy s II and not the Epic 4G Touch but you asking the question in the E4GT forums.
The phone is Sprint branded and so is the box.

Okay, so for future reference... you have the D710, NOT the i9100. (The i9100 is the international SGS2, different enough from the Epic Touch that you can't flash i9100 firmware.)
That said, if you can get into download mode then all is not lost!!
Restart your computer. Also, when you use odin, be sure to go into your Windows task manager and close any Kies tasks/processes that may be running in background. You only need Kies for the drivers it provided when you installed it onto your pc.
Suggest you put your phone into download mode, and follow the instructions in the 1st post in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1282420
I tried the instructions in the link. however, the problem seems to that the phone is not being detected by the computer or the drivers dont seem to be working. I tried this on my other computer and while the phone is in download mode it is still not being detected by the computer or odin.... what can be causing this as before the firmware update that failed it was being detected perfectly fine.
I pretty much have the exact same problem as posted here.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I was never able to get any computer to recognize the phone in that state. I was able to take it to the Sprint store and they ended up giving me a new one for a small service charge. Since you didn't get it at a store I would contact Samsung and give them the story that cooza suggests in the thread you linked. Good luck and post back if you ever get it working, I am still curious as to what was wrong.
The only thing that might be hampering your effort is Kies might be still active. I overlooked this instruction (as was mentioned in a previous post). Before starting Odin or connecting your phone go into Windows task manager (ctrl/alt/del) and click on processes. Scroll down and you'll probably see a Kies process running. End that process, then try it again.
.....
Sorry but Kies has been completely uninstalled from this computer and the other computer.
are you plugging the phone before or after entering download mode?
I did both before and after to see if that would make a difference, but no go.

I thought you needed the drivers from Kies?
.....
I installed the drivers without it, I downloaded the drivers for my model phone from another member who suggested it.
Try deleting the drivers that u have and reinstalling kies. Use different usb ports.
Sent From My Evo Killer!!!
i would reinstall kies..... or if you have a linux box maybe try heimdall > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755265 to flash
Guys, I tried Ubuntu but with no luck. The computer simply will not detect the phone. At this point I believe only Samsung can fix or replace this. I will contact them tomorrow and see. Maybe they will do it for free or maybe they will charge a small fee (small I hope if any) but thank you all for the help.

[MAJOR PROBLEM] Samsung Galaxy Nexus - try to Root the phone, now unusable

I had used "Galaxy Nexus Toolkit V7.7.0 to :
Unlock my BootLoader,
Root my phone
Rename Files Recovery
Flash Recovery (CWM Touch)
Install BusyBox on Phone
And now, i have install the rom JellyBean 4.1.1 with the Recovery Mode :
(I take the Rom here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1737849)
After HAVING done all of this, i try to boot my phone, but he remained stuck on the loading screen (animation) ... even after 1 hours of waiting....
I had go back in recovery mode and I "Wipe" all the DATA, now there is no more operating system on my phone and i'm not able to install a new ROM and i can't even go thru my phone data via USB cauz my computer not recognize my Samsung Galaxy Nexus anymore...
Someone can help me I think I'm in big trouble right now...
This is the problem with toolkits. Things can go wrong and you don't know where it went wrong. See my signature for my thoughts.
As far as getting your phone working again. Follow efrants guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626895 it has all the info you need to get up and running.

First of all, next time, do not use the toolkit or one-click-root methods. They have more chance of bricking your device than using fastboot commands.
Also, can I ask you which recovery you have right now? Is it clockworkmod or stock?
Ok thanks i try this right now... Hope it will work, i'm freaking out at the moment...
Ok, i'm in big big trouble.
The driver does't find my Device at all. I can't enter in my phone via USB from my PC, so i can't do anything....
They have no more OS on my device, i guess this is why Windows7 dont recognize my phone with any drivers i had try the one from SAMSUNG that have working well for me before i **** up my phone, and now the Universal Naked Driver (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20058157&postcount=1) , don't work

I have already done this...
I had uninstall the SAMSUNG driver correctly.
And then install the Universal Naked Driver.
Nothing work for me, it's like my phone had no more OS installed, and windows doesnt recognize it.

Boot into the bootloader. Then install the driver.
Your phone should show up as Android 1.0 in your device manage on your PC. Update that.

I've been seeing issues with the toolkits and rooted my phone hours ago using adb, worked flawlessly except the drivers lol.
But after I got that resolved it worked, no jb issues and no other issues. Recovery stuck as well.

Yes, I realize you can't do these things. I gave you the info to fix your problem in the second post.
You need to boot into the bootloader and flash the stock images with fastboot. I don't know how much clearer I can be.
Be patient with rooting, frustration will lead to mistakes.

Ordinarily, I don't recommend tool kits either, but in this case you quite frankly seem like the kind of fella that needs one. SO HERE IT IS. This is a different toolkit than you used before. Be sure to select the correct device first off(because this works with ALL Nexus devices not just one), then do the part entitled "Initial Setup". Do the FULL DRIVER INSTALLATION. It may be that you don't need to, but it will not hurt so do it anyway. After that, click on the "won't boot up" checkbox under "Flash Stock + Unroot" button, then click the button. At all times, read and follow directions. I used this toolkit once, now I do things manually. But you seem incapable. Not intended to be insulting, just a statement of your technical aptitude. Not everyone can do this stuff. So if you have tried EVERYTHING above and been unable to complete any of it correctly, then try this. It isn't one-click and requires some amount of effort on your part. My 11 year old nephew did it though. Good luck.

As El Daddy said, you are not reading the instructions. Your fastboot driver IS installed properly if you see "Samsung Galaxy Nexus BootLoader Interface". Follow the instructions step-by-step. You do NOT need to see anything in "My Computer". It seems like you are panicking, and not reading...

And let's not scare the guy: you CANNOT "brick" your device using a toolkit. There is a big difference between not being able to boot because of a bad flash (not a brick), and a device that cannot boot at all (i.e., a brick).
It seems like people are using the term brick to mean a lot of things other than what it was meant to mean: "bricked" means that you cannot boot your device without JTAG, or sending it in for repair, i.e., it's as useful as a brick.
Ok thank you everyone, sorry about my patience tonight...
Now ma Samsung Galaxy Nexus is on Jelly Bean 4.1.1 with SuperUser and all the stuff and i'm happy
So thanks everyone.
I got it

Galaxy S 3 (III / I747) Charging but no drivers are installing

Evening amazing people of XDA-Developers!!!!!
My issue is that my Galaxy S 3 (III / I747) charges when plugged in via usb but no drivers are installing. I am unable to see my phone via MTP or Odin (to flash roms or root), my phone does not show me any way of changing the MTP or the other option when plugged in via the phone itself.
It is 2 days old from Costco. I have installed the drivers via "Samsung GS3 QCom ToolKit" and "Kies" with no success.
Thanks and hope I can get this figured out.

What's your operating system? I'm On Windows 8 64 bit and I had to manually install the drivers (clicking on the driver installer) you might also want to try install as administrator and teen off UAC on your PC

I had a similar issue where it was installing as a modem instead of a phone. I manually installed the phone drivers after uninstalling everything
and rebooted, then it started working correctly.

You're never prevented flashing by not using a computer unless you stick with Odin only, even then you have Mobile Odin. Read above and see if it works. Neither of you stated the OS used and causing the problem.

I had this problem when i tried to update S3 from ics to jellybean with NEW install of kies. Had to go to windows settings and untick auto update( i set it to ask me every time) and reinstall kies. Windows auto update seemed to be updating what kies had installed. After this my drivers installed as soon as I plugged in my S3 although windows update does now show 2 samsung update available, I just don't allow the updates.
Hope this helps

I had the same issue, after getting in contact with samsung, all i had to do was turn off the phone, remove the battery, wait 60 seconds and re install battery. after that worked perfectly.
Install Samsung Kies. That will fix the driver issues and it should appear in ODIN after that. That's how it worked for me.

Running Windows 7 Ultimate x64... I have done the following to hopefully alleviate the issue I am having but with no success:
System restored...
Installed KIES...
Used the toolkit...
The only thing that works is charging... even running in Odin, the computer does not recognize the phone... where are the drivers so I can manually install them?

[Q] Rooting S2X

Is there anyway to root a galaxy sgh t989d without a pc? I have seen a bunch for the original s2 but none for the s2x? I would do it using Odin but pc keeps saying unrecognized device. Have uninstalled kies and unistalled drivers many of times and went throw regedit for upper filters and 2 USB cable all in different USB ports, can't seem to get it to work
ICS 4.0.3
No, you need Odin.
There's a flashable twrp ... But with the stock recovery, there's no way to flash it.

Make sure you only ever follow guides that state they are for T989, T989D or Hercules when it comes to rooting, recovery or roms. or you will most likely brick your device.
If you need the proper version of Odin and latest USB drivers(windows) to flash a recovery and then root your phone, then check this link. It has links to all the downloads and info you need.

Trouble rooting

I'm not new to rooting or anything, but I am new to Samsung phones. I was trying the t mobile root method and couldn't get it to work. I think it has to do with the drivers. My computer recognizes the phone in storage and camera mode, but when I'm in download mode and connect to computer, my computer says new hardware found but I don't know what to do after that. I followed what chainfire's directions were for the note in the thread about rooting, but there was nothing about drivers.
