Tinyshark works GREAT and the sound quality is pretty damn good. however, as soon as the screen shuts off, the quality drops tremendously, crackling and hissing sounds to be specific. Works great when the screen is on.
I have flashed plenty of different roms and kernels, but they all have the same problem. This does not happen on any other android phone that I have personally tried it on.
Any suggestions/ideas as to why this happens?

Hey guys! I was having this issue that everytime I tried to raise the volume on my g2, this annoying crackling noise was coming. I know it's not the speaker its self because I tested it out through my earphones and portable speakers and the same noise came. It got fixed when I rebooted the phone and then came back. It looks like an internal problem. Any ideas?
Lights Out, Nitelight
It only happens when you raise the volume? Might be a problem with the sound wav played when the volume is raised?
That's what I thought, but but happens even when nothings playing.

Anymore ideas?

Hi,
Quick question about the way this device records sound. Its by far the best phone ive ever used to record sound, however i keep running into a problem with volume levels. It never stays constant and fluctuates depending on whether the sound is loud or quiet.
Now that wont make sense at first so heres a link to a video i shot in the studio with some friends.

Note at around 2:20 in the volume changes quite dramatically. I assure you, in real life the volume of the sound was constant throughout the song, the only change was that both guitars had stopped playing, thus decreasing the decibel level slightly (the guitar sounds at that point were from the effects pedals), which surely wouldve made it quieter if anything
I dont believe this a manufacturing defect as ive had it on the past 4 HOX's i owned, but perhaps more to do the way the sound is processed. It is the same result recording in mono/stereo/720/1080 etc.
EDIT Just remembered, i had to turn my speakers up all the way to hear that properly so the recording level is far too quiet as it is. I can barely hear it through the phones speaker.
Yeah got same problem,
I did turn the stereo off in video options which did improve it. Give it a go and turn the Stereo feature off.
The sound was not dropping as much,
I tested this out at a footy match.

Thats a temporary fix i suppose, it did improve it though it didnt fix it for me.
Does anybody know if this is something that is likely to be resolved by a software update? Or can anybody recommend any apps to record this type of thing with if it is a software issue.
When I was listening to music earlier and watching YouTube, I heard a pop noise come from my speaker a couple times... My volume was only at half, so I don't know what the problem is. Does it sound like a hardware problem, and should I exchange my phone?
Also seems to happen sometimes when I start a song with Google Play Music and turn on the volume from silent
My G3 also makes popping noises and sound quality in general is pretty bad compared to most other phones I've had. I wonder if this is a known problem and if they have an easy fix.
I've noticed that as well. During a call I noticed that the earpiece speaker does not sounds good at all. It sounds like there might be something loose inside of the phone. Anyone else having bad phone call speaker quality?
Same here with the earpiece speaker. It was really frustrating. Strange was the fact that the problem was gone when I removed the back cover Also after HR the problem has been gone for a couple of days.
I had to get my money back for the device.
So, I bought an N1 from Expansys not that long ago and have generally quite enjoyed my time with it. (5.0.2 is a goddamn clusterf*** and clearly no one bothered to use the tablet in landscape orientation with headphones plugged in before finalizing the design, but I digress.)
I've just noticed something peculiar, though. The speaker volume seems to be substantially higher when the screen off rather than when the screen is on. In other words, if I'm playing music via the speakers with the screen on, for example, and I hit the power button, the volume jumps dramatically. Similarly, if the screen is off and music is playing, hitting the power button drops the volume back down. I'm completely stock and am running the latest Taiwan build.
Has anyone else encountered this issue? I've tried it out with Play Music and YouTube and with the equalizer on and off. Nothing makes a difference. This doesn't seem like a hardware issue, since the higher volume level works perfectly fine as far as I can tell. The speakers seem rather quiet with the screen on, so it would be super awesome if the N1 could just use the higher volume level, y'know, all the time.
What could be causing this issue? I'm running the same apps I always do. This is the first time I've encountered this kind of issue on an Android device. The closest I've come is a Nexus 6 that would get louder and quieter seemingly at random. But in that case, the volume seemed to go up and down continuously, whereas in this case there are only two different volume levels that are linked to the screen turning off or on. What gives? I'd like to blame this on 5.0.2, but I have no evidence to support that claim.

Try updating to 5.1.1. then and see if there is any difference
Since my last device died I recently got a HTC 10, mostly because there aren't many alternatives if you want a device with good custom ROM / AOSP community support going forward.
[The device itself in my opinion is pretty unexciting, as expected, which is not really a bad thing though. Coming from an AMOLED device, I found that the screen of the HTC, while being crisp clear, doesn't get very dark at all. I often watch Youtube Videos in the dark and even on the lowest brightness setting the blacks on the screen are more gray-ish.]
While watching Youtube (or listening to music etc) without headphones, I noticed a background noise that was always there no matter what. I tried different apps and volumes and also tried changing the BoomSound mode. The noise is most noticable on the lowest volume setting while on Music mode.
Is this just my device or is this a known thing? Please report back if you noticed the same. Thank you!
