[Q] What is Baseband? - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys...
I've played around with trying new firmware for a while now, but one thing I've never really understood is baseband.
What is it and why (when) do I need it?
I was thinking about trying the MIUI rom and it says I need to flash to baseband 70. If I do so, can I still use the CM7.2 rom (without flashing back to my current baseband - which I don't know what is)...
That was a couple of questions right there, hope you guys can help

It's the thing that controls the antennas for GSM/3G, Wi-Fi etc

Just got an R800x. Where do I go from here?

I just got an Xperia Play (Verizon) and to my surprise it was rooted already.
Gingerbread 2.3.2
Baseband: 7X30A-AAABQMAZM-1290_10-01
Kernel: 2.6.21.9-perf
Build Number: 3.0.E.2.89
Should I get a Gingerbread rom? ICS rom? Leave it on stock? I plan to use this phone for gaming, music, and web browsing (and using the former more than the latter), so I'm looking for the solution with the best gaming performance. Not going to be used as a phone at all. Also, is 7-8gb enough for games? I have about 22gb of music than I want to put on the Play once I get around to getting a 32gb micro sd card.
Unlock your phone. It costs $25 but so worth it. I unlocked mine a couple days ago.

What do you mean by unlock? Like unlock to use for other carriers? I'm not using it as a phone cause I don't need to. I only bought it for gaming, since I'm selling my Droid X to a friend.

no you need to unlock the bootloader to flash custom kernels which are needed for custom ROMs

How viable do you think stock is just for gaming and music?

stock based roms are the best for gaming you can flash roms like true ancestor and Gin2JellyBean Without a unlocked bootloader as they can use stock kernel

Sorry about not using search.
Basically, what you're saying is stock based roms like the ones you listed will be able to be flashed by CWM or whatever method the R800x uses, and other roms like CM9 will brick me right?
I'll try reading through the stickies or other topics right now.

Alright thanks a lot. Gonna do some more research. Is it just me or is it hard to find an R800x rom? Only definite ones I've found are Cola and GBTweaked. I like Xperia NXT and Gin2JellyBean but I can't tell if they are R800x compatible.

Any ROM will work if you're not planning on using it as a phone. (GSM Roms break the phone aspect of the R800x, that should be it.)

They're not any harder to make than a GSM ROM, its just our user base is smaller, (and also, on average, from who I've communicated with, the more active R800x users tend to be older, so less time to spend working on ROMs) leading to less ROMs

I am currently working on a Minot rom that is somewhat built for gaming. When I am done I will post the link here

So basically I can use any rom I want that works on a locked bootloader? Won't mess with wifi or any other important function besides the phone, yes? That'll make choosing a rom much easier. Thanks for the info guys.
Hey guys. I decided to go with Xperia NXT v1.2. In the guide, it says to flash some firmware and root. Since I am rooted, can I skip those steps and go straight to installing CWM?

Why are you trying to install a GSM ROM!??!? It won't work on the R800x unless you like a black homes screen, soft key not working, video recording, pictures, etc. You need a CDMA rom which is practically the stock rom debloated. Apparently there is no custom roms for the CDMA xperia play other than cyanogenmod or fxp. Make sure you know how to use flashtool to revert your xperia play back to stock and fully functional again.

What? I was told that it only affects the phone stuff like data, calling and sms.
EDIT: Looked at GBTweaked, and do any of you guys know what he means when he says he removed basic games? I'd like to keep Asphalt 6.

Major Video Problem w/ Touchwiz

Hello!
I have tried looking for other people having this problem but found nothing!
The problem is, when watching a video, it will run perfectly but when the things that let you fast forward/pause/rewind go away the screen pauses, but the audio continues on! So now I have to watch videos on YouTube and even the gallery with the bar at the bottom!
No one else is having this problem?! If anyone knows how to fix it I will slap that thanks button!

I'd still say stay away from the options that change your bootloader or the modem (due to the hardware differences).
Has not been tested.
N7105 Roms are suppose to be compatible but I have run across a few that would never boot after flashing.
I have seen Dr Ketan on the n7100 forums and seems to be great there. He states does not have our device so has not tested. And no one commented on that thread for over a month. I think I would stay away.
Every rom I have flashed has had different steps somewhere to fix some missing component. I think I would continue to use different methods rather than a swiss blade.
Enjoy!

I'm really concerned. I have plenty of great Rom options that I have been flashing on my phone, but there isn't too much happening for this tablet. I bought it 3 weeks ago, and have done all I can to theme it. I rooted, installed cwm, Xposed with several different theming modules, and flashed comadose tweaks. There isn't anything left now, except hope that a Dev gets a hold of this tablet and creates something nice.
Rom
I see lots of posts saying there isn't much available. I can't find anything. Does anyone have a link to a rom other than what comes on it?
Thanks
Custom Recovery?
I rooted my t217s with kingoapp which seemed to easy to be true but what custom recovery should I use? TWRP?
i have found one excellent one http://oudhitsquad.com/android/Samsung/lt02ltespr/cm/cm-11-20140128-UNOFFICIAL-lt02ltespr.zip

For right now with the bootloader Knox issues, I'm sticking with 4.12 and using the the 4.3 MK7 radio. I've gone through them all and this
improved my signal and battery time significantly. More over, with this modem improvement, I've fallen in love again with my finely tuned
Jedi-x20 all over again. ptmr3, still my idol!!!
I also flashed the MK7 modem. Haven't really noticed a vast improvement..and it also didn't deliver some of my calls and went straight to vm. But hoping it makes a difference as its used more throughout the day. .
To all people having problems,
I personally had to flash the deodexed rom about 3 times before the problems got fixed. First time camera wasn't working but I read somewhere that when first on stock taker pictures and then update the kernel. Second it was super sluggish...barely moving. Third time everything worked fine and have yet to come across and problems.
Just remember to keep erasing cache and dalvik after every flash/step.

Man people, I'm sorry for all of you. I received it while using tweaked but could not flash it so I went back to stock image using Mobile odin and triangle away. After going complete stock I received the update again then went ahead and installed it using the stock recovery. I gave up root because I'm impatient and couldn't wait 24 hours until the rooted version came along and the only thing I miss is viper audio and cerebus. So I went the stock route and after it booted up, I signed in to my Google account and soon as the home screen came up I did a factory rest and haven't had 1 hiccup. The phone is fast as hell, the battery is about the same, my 4glte even seems faster than before when browsing using the stock browser, not chrome. The keyboard is great now as well as camera, and nothing bets the apps to sd. So in conclusion do a factory rest and forget about root IF you want all to run flawless. I'm sure there will be a way to regain root again. Happy flashing.......stock style.
