Trying to see if theres a inductive charging accessory coming soon or if theres a way to go about it w/o using the usb port to charge at all, working on a mod for my car would like to know if htis is possible.
possible, but you'd probably lose the NFC capability.
I've juts picked up a case-mate case, and have an old Palm TouchStone back. I'm planning to canabalise the two together to fit the inductice coil into the case.
I'm waiting until we have absolute confirmation of the assignments and voltages for the pogo pin dock connectors though.
I agree that the presence of the coil could hamper the abilities of the NFC chip, but as there's precious little you can do with that, I'm not too worried!
I'll post a how-to if I do it, and it works...
Hey everyone, just thought I would share that I managed to mod my phone to work with a powermat charger. I used the powermat back from a blackberry bold, which is currently on sale for $1.99 right now and soldered it to the micro-b end of an old cable. If there is interest, I'll take it apart and document it, but it's pretty straight-forward. Obviously the nub sticks out, but it's not any worse than some of the stock adapters, and a case would help.
I took a few photos, but this is my first post so xda won't let me share them with you.
In your opinion, how hard would it be to modify a case/back panel for the Glide, so that it has inductive charging support? I just saw a video online of someone internalizing an iPhone 4/4S charger, with only slight structural modifications (it had the appearance of no case on the outside), and was thinking that I might be able to do it to my Glide. At the moment, I am using a Body Glove case, made of rubber-coated plastic (the only one AT&T sells/sold for the Glide), and my best guess is that the case is about 3mm in thickness. I am looking for no actual phone modifications here (except for wiring the case to the battery, and maybe a modified back cover), so does anyone have any thoughts/ideas/suggestions?
Interesting. There is a company selling those inductive charging mats. I believe there is a connector that plugs to our phone (micro USB) to work with it. You could buy that and try to modify the phone back panel and a case to add the necessary hardware.

I saw this, and figured that's what I was going to use. However, It looks as if the case for most phones adds quite a bit of thickness. I looked at another guide, which involved ripping up a Palm Pre back, soldering some things together, and using the Touchstone mat. As for whether or not that would work with a Powermat, I am not sure.

I've seen that guide, it was for the galaxy s3.
It looks like that phone has the two charging pins below the back cover; looking at the glide, I can't see them.
I fear we would need circuitry or at least more complicated wiring to make it work.
The one I saw was for the original Galaxy S. You may have seen a different one. The video I saw showed him wiring some things directly to the battery, if I remember correctly.
any progress
Hey there!
I found this thread as THE only one where someone imagining about the glide having the possibility to charge inductively.
any new info about it?
@a_p3rson: did you find a way to do it?
I would love to see it becoming true..
best regards
jay
So far, the best chance I've seen was using the induction sticker on the back for the Palm (pre I believe), and wiring it to the USB port. I think that would work pretty well, though I am worried with how it would affect the normal function of the USB port. If anyone wants to try it (and share the results), by all means, please do so!
EDIT: It wouldn't be possible to wire the sticker directly to the battery, right? Of course, without causing overcharging/overheating/general harm/etc. to the battery or any part of it?
just throw it out there i have a extended battery from amazon it is about twice as thick as stock batter new back cover has large empty space between camera and batter pack i mean could put flash drive with room to spare in there would be easy to add some new hardware in there if need be for you power matt bought mine of amaxon for 11.00

I seem to remember the sticker on the Pre being really thin - like paper thin. Plus, I really am against cosmetic things like that (e.g. large back, extended battery), so an extended back shouldn't be needed.
However, I do know that the guide that I found (for the Galaxy S) said that it was possible by just wiring the sticker to the charging ports in the USB connector. The only worry I have is if the phone's USB communication would be affected at all.
If it is possible to just directly wire into the charging ports, there appears to be an easily removable panel directly above the microusb port that would presumably give access to it. I'm at work right now, so I can't exactly check, just puttin it out there.

Did you ever see if it was possible to hook the induction sticker to the USB port from here? I just looked at the panel, and it actually looks like there is a sticker that contains some wires going to the main board on that plate, makes me think that it could be an antenna of some sort, and that it might be kind of hard to deal with.
Hey everybody this is a thread for everything you should need to know on wireless charging on the Note 2.
There was so man different threads out there I thought I'd make one with all the info you should need.

Pics attached of my version of the mod.
I'm getting roughly 15% an hour using this mod. I only use it for overnight charging works good for me. It does work through thin cases like thin tpu cases, probably not with thicker cases.
The mod was fairly basic not to complicated, got it to work first try. I have had usb ports go out on me with other phones hope this helps the life of my usb port on my phone.
Anyone else have anything they want me to add or any questions hit me up pm me or email me [email protected]
IF I HELP YOU HOOK ME UP WITH A THANK YOU.
Just ordered all the stuff you mentioned that I don't already have. Hopefully its as easy as your pics make it look

Aaronkellys link goes to simple wireless charging mod.
OP,
Make sure you're using the Perseus kernel. That way your touchstone will charge your phone at 900mA instead of 500mA. And to all wondering, running the touchstone at 900mA is safe, the Galaxy Nexus crowd has been doing it for months.
Having a little trouble with wireless charging
I really want to try this but wanted to give it a go on my old phone first for practice. I busted open the old evo and read every tutorial I could find on every phone I could find. Got my leads out to the back of the phone but it just will not charge. When I have just the back on the touchstone and read it with the multimeter I get 5.6 volts. If I plug the phone into the wall charger and test the leads I get 4.4 volts. Can anyone tell me what I might be doing wrong?
Thanks

Can anyone confirmed that this information correct? I read somewhere that it limit the wireless charging to only 500mA?
I'll stick with my 2A wired charge, and only charge my phone for 2.5 hours....instead of 6.
Neat feature...but they need to bump up the ampage.

Hi all,
I've been reading a lot of threads about wireless charging and one of the most frequently asked questions is:
"Does this work with my [insert case here]?".
Click to collapse
So I thought it would be a good idea to make a thread where everybody can check if their cases are compatible before they actually buy the kit.
The 'set-up' I'll use for the testing will be this one; this backcover and this touchstone.
(Please note that I'm not affiliated with any of those products nor sellers. I'm just a guy that's trying to help his fellow S3-owners out before they buy the kit/mod. Those products also were the cheapest ones I could find on eBay as of 27th november.)
I will divide this into 2 sections; the QI wireless charging and the Touchstone wireless charging (mod).
I've ordered a couple of cases to test out and I will report back later. Also, I'll probably give these cases away afterwards anyways.
In the meantime it would be great if people could add cases that are compatible and if they use the QI or the Touchstone wireless charger.
QI wireless charging compatible cases:
-Otterbox Defender
-Otterbox Commuter
-Otterbox Prefix
-Spigen SGP Neo Hybrid
-(some) TPU/Plastic cases
Touchstone wireless charging compatible cases:
.
I've added a section like that on the stickied qi thread as well [last night]. (in my post that is).
Specifically for the Qi ones. Afaik, members who have the otterbox commuter & defender are able to charge w/ the Qi charger.
I have a hybrid tpu/plastic case that also works with the qi kit.

Alright, thanks for your input. Do you want me to delete the QI piece? So there are no double posts and whatnot.
I don't really care. I think it's fine to have a place to double check.
i just manage to put the Touchstone wireless charger from palm into the galaxy s3 battery cover, ordering some case on amazon, will report back.
Since this thread is about Qi & Wireless charging tech.
Why not link to where we can get a battery back with the capability to wireless charge our phones? just a thought.
I've brain stormed ideas including ways to add a wireless charging station to a car/truck but I have yet to get a wireless/Qi battery door to make it even possible to start doing such experiments.
I had heard Samsung announced a wireless charging kit for the S3 but apparently never released it. (hopefully they show it off this week at CES for release alongside the new Extended battery coming this month)
check my 2nd post in the sticked thread for different options. That was all I was able to gather before it got close due to some members who blatantly abused the thread for their personal gains.

Are the Qi backs compatible with the Nokia wireless pads? I read some threads on here that some users are using them but wasn't sure if that was entirely true and if it worked or not.
they work. It's a qi reciever so any transmitter will work. (i have the yijieneng one and tested it out on the nokia pad and the speaker/charger pad combo at the AT&T store and it charges just fine.

Received my cover a while back. Also ordered 2 touchstones and *about* 20 different types of cases from different locations.
Was on holiday and didn't manage to get home yet but tonight I'll try everything out.

Alright, will add this in the OP.
FYI, I bought this backcover and 2 of these touchstones (note: doesn't come with a cable or anything; just the touchstone).
Also, haven't had a chance to try the combo out -yet. See previous reply.
Yeah, they announced it but haven't released anything yet. Frankly, I don't even know if they'll ever release it. Maybe it was just for the hype of it.
After all, they were 'one of the first' that would incorporate this in a device so widely sold.
I have the Zens white backcover with the Zens charging pad. It works but the cover is too thick for use with my case (which i want to keep) + it's white (Black S3).
I was wondering if anyone has experience with dismantling the tech in the zens cover and 'mounting' it in the standard samsung cover. Any feedback is welcome before i rip it apart
I got this touchstone back;
http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewitem?itemId=170950767865
The magnet is terrible, it can barely stay on the touchstone without a case on it, and let alone with a case.
I have a touchstone on my dash in my car and even when driving slow in a straight line with no case on, the phone won't stay on the touchstone.
This Sucks because I bought sygic gps and was hoping this could replace my windshield mounted deactivated HTC touch pro 2 with igo8 finally.
Has anyone got one with an acceptable strength magnet?

cheapest I've found yet. $17.28 shipped for the receiver, I think $50 for the kit. free shipping. (same pad as every other overseas site, just way cheaper and verisign secure/certificate matches)
