Hey everybody, I have a curious question for everyone, have you ever compared your rooted phone to a stock Incredible? I'm just curious because my sister just got a new Incredible from Verizon and it just seemed a little snappier than my phone running CM 6.1 Anyone else ever experience this? Also her screen seemed a bit nicer, is there any chance I recieved an LCD model and she got an LED? How would I find this out? Thaks everybody.

How many apps does she have installed? Just wait a month when she has 20 or 20 so apps downloaded. And if it's still faster, your rooted, you have a custom rom, just overclock, and rip her apart on benchmark.
Haha, the funny thing is she actually has more apps installed than I do. I've never really overclocked my DINC either.

Damn, that's weird. And I only overclock if I'm running a benchmark, or using psx4droid, because nothing says speedy playstation games then 1.19Ghz.
And if it feels speedy then it probably is just the UI (sense) making the basic screens quick and snappy. Both of you download an app that uses alot of processing power (psx4droid) and see who's comes out on top.

Dunno bro.
In my experience with CM with the Droid 1, it's always been a quirks first performance second rom. If you go back to a stock rooted ROM it should be faster.
Just think I found out the opposite, I've had my Incredible since the first day of release, so I should have the AMOLED and she has the SLCD, so does anyone know if the SLCD has better quality than the AMOLED?
Better contrast on the amoleds.

The amoled is hardware version 0002 in settings and slcd is 0003.
Amoleds have a higher contrast ratio, so everything looks a little richer on amoled. However, the pixel arrangement is a little different, so text should look a little clearer on the slcd display.
Its a trade off; I'd go for the amoled if I had a choice.

It may not be the app count that matters as much as the type of apps.. And have you ever changed kernels when you switched to cm6?
Last time I was running Cm 6.1 I had Invisibleks #18
Its a number of things. A huge dalvik cache from regular use, browser history, app cache, lots of gmail, text messages, ****ty apps with memory leaks, album thumbs, sync schedules, etc. Also an odexed phone optimizes an app's library making it slightly snappier.
ok, well invisa-whatever(can never remember its name???) is a "special" kernel(sorry if your its dev and reading this), apps arent gona kill you that much... if you running slower rooted and on a dif rom then chances are its your kernel... most roms run faster than the stock. OC'd phone have a tenancy to kill battery very quickly, and the inc already has bad batt life(only thing I dont like about it) so I would suggest flashing a dif kenrel and possibly a dif rom... find a rom w/ sense that you like and ziggy is where its at... if you can find a asop kenrel by him(there are a few i think) then that would likely be your best bet for non sense kernels. His kernels are usually very snappy and can be OC'd if you really want, not to mention the batt life is amazing by comparison. I hate to sound like a ziggy fan boy but it really is the best kernel set I have ever used.

Hi guys. I bought nexus couple days ago and returned it cus of signal strength, sound, keyboard and screen issues. So I've got a couple questions please.
1: I read that 4.0.4 Google ICS update will fix the low speaker volume. Anyone know if this is true or how to fix this now?
2: I was typing in here, xda app once and the keyboard paused every couple letters. Typing was terrible. Is this just a fluke or normal? Seemed better elsewhere sometimes so just curious.
3: can you make the radio better? It was on 3g mostly at home where the Rezound is on 4G mostly.
4: how do the included ear buds sound?
5? I played the game Monopoly and the sound was buggy with the shoe. You'd hear the shoe each space and on the last one it had the sound one extra time.
6: in monopoly the touch screen was terrible. You touch stuff but it picks something else like you touched somewhere else. This in auction screen and trade area. Made it unplayable.
I have Rezound but screen digitizer thing bothers me. Reminds me of anti glare. So I might want to get the nexus again if the above issues could be fixed or made better somehow.
Thank you.

1. I tried 4.04 only for few mins and i didn't notice any difference. In mean time we can use Volume+, it really helps a lot.
2. Same here. Especially noticeable when predictive text enabled. Now i'm sorry that i didn't check that while i had 4.0.4.
3. All we can do is to wait for driver updates and hope that things will improve. Personally for me this isn't a problem as usually i'm in good reception areas, but i do agree that GN radio is very weak.
4. For me they are just ok and i prefer using mine Sennheisser CX300 II instead.
5-6. I would say that game needs an update. I game a lot on GN and never noticed problems as you have described. Though i found few games that wouldn't start at all because of incompatibility with ICS. Try to email game developers.

I will try to answer ur ques 1 by 1
but first wud like to say u cannot compare GN to rezound ..no way...just my 2 cents
1. if u get GN, update it to any of the ROMS like AOKP,FOXHOUND, etc or just get the STock 4.03 with maybe 4.0.4 GAPPS; i have Foxhound on ICS 4.03, radio= UGKL1, with James bond as my Kernel
2. No Lags whatsoever with keyboard or otherwise
3. signal strength is solid ( varies b/w -78dB to -92 dB) with UGKL1 in GTA, wifi is strong as well. switches between 3g and H flawlessly with good speed.
4. ear buds are decent , i use it with DSP manager..gives good depth and 3D effect. Never thought my speaker volume was low though..??
5. about monoply problem i really dont know,,,,it cud have been an app issue as well. check if its compatible with GN ?
Hope this helps, wid have loved to share SS to show you but cant ( m still a newbie )

thanks guys . so most of my issues might be able to be fixed ? I kind of prefer the screen on the nexus over the rezound because the resound has this digitizer that makes me think of anti glare on the screen . google voice also sucks on the resale and when I'm trying to type in here . See, I said rezound not resale.
Why no contest between nexus and rezound in your opinion?
What is ss?
If I got the nexus again would someone please help me with unlocking, root and the roms and radio stuff? I have tried looking here for info but am lost with too many threads and stuff.
Is want to make backup image right after I turned on nexus and go through setup. Then put ics Rom with none of the vzw crud. Then improve radio or whatever to get it stronger. Then make speakerphone vol better.
I do like the beats audio ear buds that come with rezound. So if nexus ones sound ok that'll be cool. I like to listen to my music in Google music streaming highest quality while walking around the track. But Google streaming seems like its only 64k not what I uploaded.

No Probs bro...
sorry SS means ScreenShot...my bad
well Nexus is google's baby u see....so it gets all updates directly from google...so no tweaked UI's and stuff....just pure ICS. rezounds or any other non nexus wud always get ICS updates with lot of lag depending on carrier and Manufacturer tweaks.
The display is amazing on GN and GN has seen tremendous support from developers( i have never seen development for any other phone so aggressive )
ok XDA is the right place for ur needs for everything Nexus
for unlocking you can use either
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1392310
or
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1454314
both are very straight forward and threads are very detailed....i used the first option. u can also use these to make backups or u can make a nandroid from recovery after u installed CWM
for all customisation needs from ROMS to Radios...try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1392380
good luck
did i forget to point that GN is an unlocked device that will work anywhere in the world ...i dont think ur rezound would do that

Keyboard, it just a bug...
4.04 update; Yes, it will.... I've tried quite a few 4.04 ROMs, my phone has gotten MUCH louder...
Radio-better? Download Tune-In, it's an ICS problem...
The earbuds are just amazing!!! They've got a better sound and more bass than most Hi-End cinema speakers...
The sound in apps, has nothing to do with Android, it's probably just because the app hasn't been completely updated to work properly with ICS...
If you think the reaction time is bad in monopoly is bad, play 3D bowling...
Just wait untill the next update gets released, no need to panic... Or if you don't mind rooting your phone and flash a custom ROM... Link to my toolbox:

Well I have the CDMA Verizon galaxy nexus and the radio is terrible. Its just weaker than HTC and Motorola... its the manufacturer's weak build (Samsung) who has never had great signal strength when it comes to phones.
There are only two radios I believe I can flash on my galaxy nexus and they aren't good. I still can't keep a solid 4g signal near my job but when I had the rezound, it stayed connected even with 3 bars.
Are there other radios for the galaxy nexus (Verizon)??

And yes, the rezound actually outperforms the nexus in just about everything but software updates from google...
I got the nexus again to try. But something is on the screen that reminds me of anti glare and I don't like it much. Not sure what it is that I see.

I returned nexus because the screen has something on it I don't like. Also it doesn't show white well. Looks almost more creamy or something.
So I guess I have to wait for new phones but don't know what's in the pipeline and when.

Fastest smoothest Android phone I've ever owned... smooth as butter... no catching up on scroll lists, no lag period. 4.0.4 is an amazing software upgrade. All bugs of 4.0.2 have been fixed. No auto brightness problems, screen rotation fast and smooth. Bluetooth is awesome, wifi is awesome, 3G/4G radio is awesome.
And best of all... I'm getting 40-50% more battery power... I feel like I'm in looove with my Galaxy nexus all over again...
4.0.4 is the update that Galaxy Nexus should have shipped with. Congrats to everyone at Google who had a part in bringing us this awesome software update... Congrats!
Forgot to say that the camera software on the 4.0.4 update has been improved 1000x over the one from 4.0.2... what an amazing update. Kudos to Google engineers.
My Galaxy Nexus which is stock O2 UK came up last night saying 4.0.4 was available. It dowloaded the 37MB and restarted but never installed the update. Any idea's?
I agree, Google did an amazing job with this OTA, I am also in love again with my Nexus

I must be one of the few that doesn't like it. My battery life is worse, the device has a slight lag and the touch sensitivity is off. And my GPS won't work any more after hammering for the OTA. I really need to do a full wipe and clean but I've got too much on the device at the moment.

Ya something went wrong. Save your things and factory reset or even reflash that thing.
I found the signal on 4.0.4 to be VASTLY better than 4.0.2.
One issue I found was something weird with scrolling. Sometimes it feels mushy, and I have to press down harder/move my finger longer.
Yes. 4.0.4 is quite good. The overall experience can be described as smooth. Loving it!
Yes... it is amazing... faster... one little lagg when change between calls, contacts and recent calls, but nothing compares with the previous version...
I'm loving it!!!
Yes, to me it is waaay better than 4.0.2. Everything is smooth and working well. Battery life is amazing.
for me it is also amazing. battery life amazing improvement on standby. snappy as well.. looking forward for a year full of such improvements!

Then you are not very attentive.
I've never understood the obsession of folks with their live wallpaper. History has shown that on most devices they suck. They suck battery bigtime, because fools are too busy looking at their live walls and going WOOOOOOOOOOOO.....! that their screen kills the battery.
Live wallpapers suck on this device. Get over it, nobody cares anymore.
Love everything about the ota except the color. Anyone else notice a color change? My phone got very beige whites after ota and auto brightness seems less responsive. Its like the gamma was messed up. Couldn't see well in bright sunlight anymore. Once I flashed one of morfics color corrected kernels it was better but I thought my phone was messed up. All white backgrounds were flat beige.

Actually the only thing I noticed after the upgrade is that I did not need to install Volume+ since the ringer became loud enough.
I have a couple questions. Stil havnt received my ota update. I used the clear cache trick which worked but when updating, I get a Droid with a red exclamation mark.
1) Is the lag over with lwp?
2) did they fix the keyboard auto correction for other languages , ie I am Dutch and when pressing on a Dutch word I get English corrections.
3) did they improve the stock browser which I like better than chrome because of in browser flash

For me mainly it was the ability to unlock the bootloader and be able to flash roms again, or pretty much do whatever I want. As long as you don't update the phone to the latest OTA without gaining S-off you will be able to as well.
Other things I liked over the S4 include:
-Metal build quality feels amazing. This thing actually feels premium, unlike the S4. I also don't feel like I'm going to break it if I'm using it outside of a case.
-Sense is way smoother than Touchwiz. Sense out of the box with all bloat is still smoother than the S4 with all bloat removed (on Touchwiz). I really like the minimalist style and smoothness of Sense.
-The IR blaster is WAY stronger than the S4's so it feels a lot better to use day to day.
-Screen brightness is great, and colors are more accurate. I thought I preferred AMOLED colors but turns out I'm liking the more realistic tones of this display. Your results may vary.
-Speakers are incredible. It makes any media consumption on the device automatically better just because you can hear everything clearly and loudly. Call quality is great too. I have my alarm clock on half volume and it's still louder than the S4 on max.
Okay now it sounds like I hate the S4, which isn't true, so here's some things I DON'T like about the HTC One:
-Camera is pretty good, but the S4 is just a beast. If I could switch the camera on this to the S4 camera, I would.
-Button placement. I kinda get what they were going for, but the ergonomics of it are awkward and take some getting used to, especially the power button. I miss having a menu button on the bottom as well.
-No removable battery or storage. I barely ever needed a removable battery, but having limited storage really blows no matter what device you're on. I haven't filled it up yet, but I'm much more careful about how much I'm using than I was on the S4.
-It's not available in black. This isn't really HTC's fault but still it's worth mentioning. This phone looks incredible in black and it's not possible to get on Verizon. Very annoying.

There is an option in Settings > Display, Gestures and Buttons to change the function of long pressing the home button to work as a menu button. I got used to using the menu button on my HTC Incredible, same with the micro sd card, removable battery that the HTC One just doesn't have. However thanks to this setting that is no longer one of my few complaints about the HTC One.
I apologize for not being able to give more specific instructions on where to find the setting, in ViperOne the setting has been moved from Settings to Viper Tweaks, along with having a customized settings menu.
Is that on a rooted device? I have no idea about rooting and the benefits of it.

That is on stock, and the section in Settings is called "Display, Gestures and Buttons". In that menu the second section down titled "Buttons" click the first option under "Buttons" and you will get 2 choices, you want the one that says hold for menu.

The lack of a menu key is honestly one of the smallest issues I have with the phone, and I'd rather have it stay as a dedicated Google search shortcut instead as there's been times when I need to bring it up immediately. Besides, even if you use the home key as the menu you still need to reach up to use the options in most cases, unlike the Galaxy phones which keep the menu selections at the bottom of the screen.
Since I'm on Bonestock right now the power button isn't really a huge issue anymore either, as it has volume keys to wake function so you don't always need to reach for the power button up top.
The only issue I've had is the screen will turn off, usually when on the phone, and it will take a second or two to respond and come back. Other than that, the One has been stellar all around. Build quality is definite thing to note, and Sense is quite nice compared to Touchwiz.

Sounds like you just tripped the proximity sensor by accident, it will turn the screen off during calls when it thinks it's next to your face
Apart from your increased smoothness and responsiveness the problem that I had was a software problem. Office suite pro. My excel documents just started to have a different format. And it was working fine on 4.2. It was however solved by installing the very latest version of suite pro.
This might be the result of some basic changes at the base of JB 4.3..
This happened in both xperia ZR AND samsung S3.

I just got the HTC One and I'll see if the experience is better. I do like the feel of it, but I put it in a case anyway.

Hi all,
TL;DR - My questions can be boiled down to: Is my tablet defective in some physical way, or can I sort it out by rooting, flashing a good custom ROM, and being less picky?
I'm wondering if you can help me decide whether my tab is a defective unit. There's lots of talk in the threads about whether certain problems are by design or by fault, whether hardware or software based, etc. In light of those disagreements, I'm a bit unsure what to do with my GPad.
My situation:
I bought a Grade A refurbished GPad the other day (it's a no fault customer return - as new). Its S/N begins 310, so one of the earlier batches I presume. I'm running Stock 4.4.2, not rooted.
My problems:
Light bleed: I don't have 7 *clearly* defined lights, but I definitely have light from that edge affecting the screen (see attached pics). Most of the time, it's not too annoying, and I can maybe live with it. Seems like more general bleed even at the top of the tab in portrait mode, and on black screens/high brightness.
Yellow tint: My screen is *very* warm, in a colour sense. Again, most of the time I'm not too fussed -- it's only when I see whites alongside my Nexus 4 that I realise how yellow/orange my screen is (unless my Nexus is exceptionally blue, of course).
Dark blacks: When watching TV shows with lots of dark scenes (like Buffy), the display really struggles to show clearly what's going on -- the darks just melt into each other in a black mess.
Netflix: I'm getting pretty noticeable lip-sync issues on even old SD streaming (again, Buffy); I cannot resize the Netflix player without it blocking half the screen off with a grey band; I'm getting lots of skipped frames too -- HD content through Netflix is not what I hoped it would be (and was on the Nexus 7 I sold to buy this).
Questions:
1. Do others have these problems -- do any of them come as a package (as it were)? So, is there a connection between, say, dark blacks and yellow tint, or yellow tint and bleed worries?
2. If so, what S/N do you have? I'm starting to think that later models aren't actually any better, but I'm curious anyway.
3. Do any or all of these things have software fixes? I've got a screen filter running which takes some of the yellow off, but not much. I could go for increasing minimum brightness, but a) I like low brightness settings; b) some of the bleed is on black screens on high brightness settings (watching movies, e.g.). If you're running a custom ROM, do any of them work well with Netflix?
4. Ultimately, is it worth my trouble trying my luck with a new unit?
Any advice you can offer would be much appreciated!

Obviously some screen questions are subjective but to me:
1. I've never had much of the bleed problem personally, it's there just much smaller. The color(yellow) and gamma(darker darks) on this tab were a big problem on 4.2.2 for me. The 4.4.2 update (20a and 20b) really helped the color, there was a 18 leak that really improved the gamma but was LG unofficial.
2. Don't have it with me but mine was towards the mid lower end of SN.
3. There are a few fixes that help the situation. Run the 18 kernel on 4.4.2(requires tablet software modding of course), I personally built my own kernel based on 20b that boosts the gamma from 1.8-2.0 to 2.2-2.3. The screen looks pretty nice. I was working with changing the LED backlight drive to give a better brightness range but honestly the screen looks really beautiful.
4. If you look at the common complaints with this tablet I'm thinking your chances of getting a better one are not in your favor.

Did you think from my screens that the bleed was particularly bad? It bugs me when watching films; sometimes it's extreme. Thanks for the tip about 18 kernal. I've read about that too. I'm tempted to flash the Mahdi ROM though - does that have gamma fixes, you know?
And yeah, so many complaints about screen issues with this tablet. Such a shame. Think I'll stick for a little longer and mull it over.

Yours looks really noticeable. I felt like mine improved with 18 and my homemade kernel, but it never seemed like it was that bad. I never used Mahdi, just CM11, stock 4.2.2/10b(for a day), stock 18 leak, stock 20 a and b.

I don't suppose you would be able to make a kernel for cm based roms with the 18 gamma changes?
I reckon you'd have half the forum loving you, including me

Any chance you could share the kernel please?

If it's just the ramdisk that is different it could probably be doable, but I'm not sure the ramification of having the 4.4.2 or 4.2.2 stock as the underlying structure that you have flashed CM over(i.e the other partitions).

I'm up in the air over it. I have some other mods to it, including overclocking for CPU and GPU that I wanted to fine tune better. I have been using it for a couple of days without any major issues, but I don't want to damage anyone's device.
I suppose if you are willing to accept the as-is nature of it, and the fact the CPU speed is bumped to 1.78 from 1.72 I can share(check the commits for other changes). At some point we need to see if the gamma is good across other screens...
Only if you are on 20A or B.....not going to work for CM, Mahdi, etc
MAKE A BACKUP FIRST
3 options in the zip(this isn't a flashable zip) If you want to be testing this I expect you know what to do with the one of the 3 files.
-boot.emmc.win, (loki'd for aboot version a/b) put in a TWRP folder and restore
-lok file. (loki'd for aboot version a/b)
-img file (non loki'd if you have a different aboot and need to loki yourself)

For GPL purposes https://github.com/aicjofs/android_kernel_lge_v500
Also thank @oubeichen, I had ported the Faux control and couldn't figure out the bootloop issue without his help.
Thanks
For anyone unsure how to flash the kernel, I changed the name of boot.emc.win to boot.img and flashed it with flashify. Seems to be working nicely. I had only just upgraded to v20b, so haven't played around with it too much but this kernel seems white and bright

I had time to make a proper flashable zip to "install" in TWRP. This one has quite a few changes committed since the one I posted above. If it continues to work for everyone I can move it to the development section.

That would be great.
If you are willing to look at the cm based kernel, I, for one, would be more than happy to test it for you.
I'm sure one or two of the guys would also be happy to test for you too.
As an aside, I am currently running mahdi kernel on infecteds cm11, as some changes cm have made lately, are causing a few issues. So these cm based kernels certainly seem to be swappable.
Thanks again in advance.
Oh and please don't feel that you are obliged to do anything for the cm roms.
I can well appreciate the extra work involved for you. I'm just being a cheeky sod

Well done with the sharing of the kernel. I might be tempted to restore my nandroid backup of the rooted stock just to give this a go. But if I did I know that running stock would bother me, after using Infected's build of SlimKat.
To be extra cheeky, could you please post the stock 4.4.2 kernel, so that I can switch between the two for testing? If it's a hassle, I can probably try to extract it from one of the ROMs posted.
I saw that LG have made the 20b kernel public but its 96MB and not downloading.

This will remove the kernel all the modules and install the 20B stock kernel and modules. Should only be used on 20B ROM obviously.

Thanks. I did pull the boot.img from the stock ROM and was flashing that back and forth but flashify only allows 3 flashes per day, so this is easier
Definitely more white (stock kernel gives people jaundice in pics) and brighter on dark movies

Thanks for confirming that it is pretty bad. If I keep it, I'll either check out the kernal fix you've now posted (thanks) or flash a custom ROM. I'm swaying towards trying my luck with a replacement though. Cheers
