[Q] installed wrong firmware but not bricked? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Hello first off I would like to say thank you all at xda I have been using your help since first rooting my t mo wing all the way up to my epic 4g touch I have now
OK but to cut to the chase I have NEVER had any problems rooting hacking or messing with any of my phones until now about 4 months ago I decided to root my new Samsung galaxy s2 using Odin little did I know I grabbed the firmware for the gt i9100 big mistake it installed successfully the phone boots ALL THE WAY to the home screen and everything works fine except for the USB external SD card and wifi even the camera works but most importantly I noticed the Bluetooth is still 100% functional my phone just thinks its a i9100 so my biggest question is basically what files "if any" should I transfer to my phone through Bluetooth to make it work again? The recovery menu seems to be for the gt i9100 too but it still has the option to flash from my internal SD and I already tested the Bluetooth transfer with a song that also plays without a problem thanks for any help in advance

Are you able to get to download mode again?

I did this once. Flashed the CWM for the i9100 on my E4GT by accident. Got the i9100 splash screen along with yellow triangle but it booted up fine.
You may want to one click odin back to rooted stock and then reinstall CWM. If you're not sure, this is an easy tutorial I did for someone else:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24158551&postcount=9980

I would mobile Odin to el26+cwm and boot into recovery and flash a proper ROM since you have no USB.

This is exactly what I would do, in fact it is what I did. I did the same thing you did when I first got the phone. This method fixed me right up! I would not recommend using mobile Odin especially since you have the wrong firmware on the phone. This is assuming in download mode the phone is recognized by the computer. I got lucky and mine did even though when booted into the ROM the computer would not recognize it.

[Q] Firmare upgrade encountered an issue - Am i done for?

Yes, i'm a total noob, sorry everyone. I tried to root my T Mobile Galaxy S2 using the Kies/Odin method, and now i'm getting nothing but a screen that says "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again". I would happily follow those directions, but now Kies won't recognize my device?!?!? I also can not get back into download mode. I have no idea what to do. Is there anyone out there that can help?
Can you still turn your phone on and use it?

All you need to do is flash it using Odin. Grab the stock rom from the general forum of the galaxy s2 and flash it using Odin.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
Did/does Odin recognize the phone? If it does then go ahead and flash the stock Odin firmware package and that should take care of the problem. Same thing happenend to me and all you need to do is set everything up just like normal, go into DL mode and give Odin a few seconds to find a com port and hit start...just pretend the warning is not there.
I have the same thing ...
I was doing a stock upgrade through Kies, and my computer decided to be dumb and install a windows update and restart the computer... I now see the same thing, i had the stock rom, but it was rooted, and when I try to go back in Odin, it never recognizes the phone... Kies won't recognize the phone, neither will Odin... Am I just returning this phone or what?
EDIT: Nevermind, I only bought it 2 days ago, so I just exchanged the phone
Yes, you can flash from that screen -- I managed to brick my Vibrant that way a number of times, and as long as you get that screen (or the Android digging screen) it's recoverable. KIES should be able to recover it as should Odin -- if it DOESN'T work turn OFF the computer (all the way off) and restart it then try again.
Samsung's USB drivers have a habit of getting confused and causing flash failures both in KIES and Odin.
Be aware that if you're trying to use KIES and the "latest" firmware is a non-wipe firmware (as the updates from T-Mobile are) it will happily load onto the phone something that will bootloop into the stock recovery and refuse to start! If you get hosed like this you probably need to Odin back to the ORIGINAL firmware so you get a "full" flash, then use KIES (or ODIN) again to perform the update.

Were you able to exchange your device? And if you did, what did the T-Mobile reps ask you? and what did you tell them? I ran into the very same problem. I tried everything but I'm still stuck on that screen. I don't want T-Mobile to think I purposely did something to make the phone that way.
Hope I'm not too late to help: I had same problem and used odin to fix.
Here's what I did:
Download stock kernel in tar form from the Android devel forum. Start odin, click check box in PDA, click PDA button then select the kernel you just downloaded.
Insert usb into your phone (I left my cord connected to my computer). Start phone in download mode (up+down keys). Once it's started ib DL mode, unplug the usb cord, then after just a few moments plug it in again. If necessary, let it set a few moments until Odin recognizes the device (yellow stripe in id:com to the upper left), now click start in odin.
That fixed my problem. After that I read and reread everything I could get my hands on, but I think I tried flashing a i1900 kernel.....big duh to me, but maybe I'm not that dumb after all!! But, soon after I was able to root, and have flashed several custom ROMs since my little bump in the road.

Took mine to a store, they didn't have any white kits in stock so they told me to call and tell them that it doesn't turn on, got a replacement ordered without having to troubleshoot over the phone.
Had that happen the first day I got the device trying to root up. Accdently pulled usb while updating. All i did was Hold VOL UP + DOWN And Plug usb in and download mode came right back up and started the process all over again.
It was a success as.

Worked!

we don't have ICS... so I'm not sure if you're in the correct section. is your phone's variant the t-mobile t989 hercules s2?
don't do anything with kies, go to download/odin mode and flash a fresh download of whatever you messed up on... or I would just flash a complete stock ROM.. the ones ending with ".tar.md5".. that should save your phone.

[Q] Cant get into recovery, stuck on boot

Hey... i searched for a solution and couldn't find one....
So i tried to install the Omega rom, the process went by pretty quickly, that's when i became suspicious.
Now i can turn my phone on, but there is something... strange... for instance once the screen turns off, the phone plays dead until i restart it.
i can get into download mode, and i did, tried to install cwm6 again, but it didnt work.
and if i try to go into recovery mode (vol up home and power) it just hangs on the "Samsung galaxy note 2 n-7100" screen.
Thanks for the help in advance =]
edit: Forgot to mention, if i plug it into the pc, windows/kies doesn't recognise it.
:< Please help me i am completly lost and beating my self up for trying this foolishness
Did u check "usb debug" on your device? Try samsung driver instead.
Try reflash recovery via pc odin again.
Might wanna try TWRP as people have been having issues with CWM when flashing ROM's.
Hey thanks for the answers, i indeed check usb debugging and it is on.
i also relized i SOMEHOW managed to download the galaxy s3 rom instead of the note 2 rom and flash it, and i guess thats the problem, however im sure it didnt flash right, any way i downloaded the correct rom and flashed it using mobile odin, every thing worked fine
however i still cant get into recovery mod, and the problem where the device stays in sleep mode is still there...
Im going to try this TWRP thingy now

By the way, as noted by Adam Outler, you should not use ODIN to continuously flash ROM's. Just to reset phone if needed. Using ODIN to flash ROM's will only turn out badly.

im using 2.0, i tried every usb port on my pc just in case....
The thing is it used to work earlier, before ive gone and messed it all up
Sorry you're not having much luck. Maybe one of the brilliant devs will hop in and lend some thoughts. I'm out of ideas at the moment.
Thanks any way dude, appreciate it.
Im going to sleep, but let me reiterate the problem.
- Tried to flash a Galaxy s3 rom onto the Note 2, dont ask me how i made this mistake
- something.. happened during the flash
- now the phone wouldn't connect to usb (so i cant use odin) and after the screen turns off it wont turn back on again without switching the device off and on
- eventually downloaded the note 2 rom (omega) and flashed it using mobile odin, this time the proccess finished fine, but...
-Still cant connect the phone to the pc usb, (it charges tho, drivers are installed)
-Screen still wont come back on after it turns off
Shameless bump =[
Man.......
im guessing this problem is not a common one eh?
I hate to spam but im really lost, having this 600$ mirrior feels bad :<
Have you tried flashing a stock rom with odin mobile? I've not used odin mobile so I have no idea what it can and can't do. But you could try flashing a stock rom and then put Cwm or twrp after you have checked it

[Q] Unrooted GS3 with mobile odin. Broken now and can't fix

Long time listener first time caller (this is my first post here) I'm going to try not to leave out any details. Bear with me.
I rooted my Tmobile Galaxy s3 for the first time and installed CM10.1. It was great for a few months, then it started getting glitchy. So I would flash the nightly release and it would be fine for a while. I decided to unroot and start fresh. It was then that I discovered the PC wouldn't recognize the device. I followed a youtube tutorial to unroot with Mobile Odin. I extracted and flashed a stock image called Tmobile_GS3_SGH-T999_4.0.4 after clearing counter with Triangle Away.
Well it seemed to go well, unrooted my device, but now the OS is incomplete. No internet app, messaging won't work at all, and it keeps crashing and freezing. The usb port is still not working so I cannot root with my computer, and the flash counter still says 1 and status says modified.
Tmobile sent me a new one on warranty, but I'm really worried they're gonna charge me 500 bucks because it's "modified". I have a few days before I have to send it back, Is there anyway that I can fix this without connecting it to my computer? Any help is GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks

First thing to do is to put the phone into DOWNLOAD mode to TEST it and see if ODIN will recognize it.
If Odin recognizes it then there is NO need to send it back to Samsung, all it needs is a proper Odin flash.
Just because when all those missing apps and the usb had issues it does not necessarily mean that Odin will not recognize the phone.
If your computer is not working or you don't have a windows computer find a relative or a friend who has one.
Even a laptop computer would do just fine.
Good Luck!
Tried that
Thanks for your response, I have tried connecting it to Odin in download mode and it still will not see it. I really don't know what the problem could be. the usb used to work fine and there has been no physical damage.

Try a different usb cable and or plug usb into different port,
if that fails, re-install the Samsung usb drivers for the phone.
Remember, if the phone goes into download mode 99.999% of the time the phone
can be flashed successfully using Odin.
The main reasons for usb issues in "download mode" are either loose connection to computer's usb ports,
usb cable intermittant or the Samsung usb drivers in the computer are corrupted in one way or another.
Thanks again
I guess I should have put this in my first post. I have tried 2 different cables in every port on 2 different computers. I have re installed the drivers multiple times as well. Also the new phone they sent me is recognized just fine.

You are in a tough spot. I don't know if you have the stock recovery or not but if not you can either download the stock rom on the phone again...you know the best way although unethical really...being that the usb port is down is to re root it and flash a rom like the gt 1300 or whatever the international version is and intentionally hard brick your phone. Hard brick meaning won't even turn on withOut jtag and that even just clears everything out and reloads software like from the factory. If the phone won't boot up then there's no way for the person to tell its been modified. Majority of the time samsung doesn't get the damaged phones its some idiot making 8 bucks an hour to refurbish phones. That's what I would suggest you do being that the counter is still saying one flash
tmobile s3 running wicked. best rom i've ever used
Pretty sure I'm on stock recovery. it does give me an option to "apply update from external storage"
Thanks for all your help, I'll try to flash the stock rooted rom through the stock recovery although i'm not optimistic.
I will check out the wicked rom you mentioned, although I am a little hesitant to root my new one after this ordeal.
but how do I re root it if I have no usb or custom recovery?

If you can get your phone to boot normally with any stock rom rooting will not be a problem at all.
If you get the phone working and booting properly you would be very lucky but from reading
everything you have wrote so far I highly doubt that you can successfully flash any rom at all
unless you have forgotten to tell us something.
Don't worry about rooting, worry about getting the phone to boot and work properly with stock rom.

I never said a word about stock recovery, I said STOCK ROM.
Invest in a JIG, it puts your phone into download mode instantly even if you cannot
do it manually with the three buttons as long as the phone is not completely dead.
You can buy a jig for less than $4.00 shipped on eBay, it's great little tool.
All you do is remove the battery from the phone and put it back in then simply plug
the jig into the usb port then in a couple seconds it will be in download mode then you
can unplug the jig and the phone is ready to be odin flashed..
Remember what I said before, just because the usb did not work with some
rom you flashed it does not mean that it will not work for download mode.
The jig was one of the best investments I have made when I started using these samsung android phones.
Once in download mode it will allow you flash the stock or stock rooted Jellybean 4.1.1 rom.
This is my best advice.
I am not having a problem getting into download mode, I will take your advice and buy a jig though in case I ever need it. Again, thanks for all your help, I think I may have to send it back and hope for the best.

Before sending it back, if I were you I would find a friend or family member who has
a windows computer and just for the hell of it install the usb drivers in the computer
just to see for sure that while in download mode and connected usb cable if Odin still
is not lighting up the [COM:xx] top left rectangle on Odin screen.
I have odin flashed many phones dozens of times in the past 3 years and I have yet
to come accross one which goes into download mode but odin is not reconized
unless there is something wrong with the windows computer or usb ports and drivers.
That only happens as I said before, if there is something wrong with the drivers,
usb ports and or usb cables or some other malfunction in the windows computer.
Just think, if it works no need send the phone to samsung plus you would have learned
something too.
I did try my other computer with the same results, tomorrow I will try it with my girlfriends laptop, I am starting to think something happened to the usb jack. It didn't work before I unrooted it either, that's why I used Mobile Odin. I am all about learning this stuff though. I plan to root every new phone I get, this has just been a little frustrating.

This is the first I heard that the usb did not work before and the usb socket might be broke.!!!
In that case since you cannot use the Wifi in your phone to transfer and install apps since it cannot boot normally
(unless I am missing something again) and you cannot use usb and it would not even help to remove the external
sd and copy any apps at all since you would have no way to install the apps.
Then you are right, you have to send it back, exchange it and hopefully you can come up
with a good enough excuse why it's not working so samsung will not charge anything )which I doubt)
I must not have been clear, I can use the phone. it makes calls, the wifi works, i can use third party messaging and browser apps. again, there has been no physical damage. the socket worked a few weeks ago when I rooted it. I only noticed it not working when I went to unroot it.
So basically it sounds like there is no way to root or install custom recovery without usb, correct?

Rom Manager most likely partitioned your INTERNAL SD Card instead. You'd have to Flash Root66 for Android 4.2 via Odin.

I too Have a T999L that is hard bricked. No issues rooting. used swapper 2 and link2sd and got hard bricked. I am running du_d2tmo-2013-10-14 rom 4.3 JB. I attempted the debrick method using both nix and winblows.. no results whatsoever . not a single error. in fact, i cannot get my T999L to do anything at all. i plug it into the pc and IF the battery is out, the red light comes on. with the battery in, it does nothing at all. ANY help would be greatly appreciated

You may need a debrick.img created from a device with the NC1 firmware. Do you know what build you were on before it bricked?
We dont have that NC1 image yet, that im aware of, but ill see if I cant find someone to make one.

I was on the pac 4.4 nightly, had flashed new nightly updates regularly for nearly a month with no problems, but then decided to switch to cm11, when I tried to flash that it gave me the bootloader error, so I went to the method that was a supposed fix for that and flashed it and thats when it went dead.
Same Problem
Hey guys I have the same exact problem heres how it started, which I think accurately describes everyone else with the same problem:
1) I downloaded the correct TWRP for my phone and unlocked it previously with ODIN.
2) So far everything is fine, now I find a nice new ROM which is stable and try to flash it. The rom was: FlashingDroid_S5_v2.2
3)First I deleted cache and dalvic cache as well, basically the default wipe.
4) I flashed the ROM and it said it was succesful, I click reboot, and nothing
Symptoms
1)No vibration
2)No screen image whatsoever
3)No signs of booting up with computer
4) Does not boot up using JIG method
5)Computer does not see phone
Notes
1) I tried checking the pulse of the phone W/out battery and gave me very little wattage, and eventually it drained out
2) Then I tried plugging it into my computer and the front red light went on but no power in phone and PC cannot see it
3) Sometimes when I put the battery in, it gives me a quick flash, from the flashlight on the back, OR it gives a millisecond of a vibration
4)Before I flashed I had android 4.3 Jellybean stock with root-again I tried to flash FlashingDroid_S5_v2.2 w/TWRP
Trials to resolve in which did NOT work
1) I tried putting it into download mode, with JIG but no battery and had someone put the battery in WHILE i was pressing HOME+POWER+VOLUME DOWN with the JIG
Results: It sometimes gave me a small vibration, but no results
2) Tried to install correct ODIN and KIES software
Result: Gave me negative sound on laptop meaning it does not recognize device-it does not show up in My Computer either
Having the same issue.
I used the FlashingDroid_S5_v2.2 rom. Wiped the phone before flashing, the prompt said successful and rebooted.
Then nothing.
No response from charging, power, download mode... nothing.
