hi guys as you may all know ive been so fustrated about not being able to install ics on my arc s. I then got excited earlier on when i discovered that ICS is now available on wotan. now heres the even more funny thing. I cannot install ics even via wotan. i get [error] file write failed or something like that. But then when I flash .62 or any other firmware with wotan it works straight away. with flashtool seus or pc companion i cannot flash anything or repair anything. its weird. is there something wrong with my device?

Which phone you've got? The official ICS update is currently available only in Nordic countries, so it's normal not to be able to install it yet, if you don't have a phone bought from there.

Im trying to flash the nordic ics with flashtool but im having no luck. i figured it might be because i have doomkernel v21 on my phone. i closed seus and restarted it and all models are showing again. however when im trying to reinstall the firmware i have already via seus or pcc i get an error and so now im stuck.
Hello theeere. New member here. I've used this site a whole bunch to get help before, but now I'm experiencing a problem that I haven't seen posted before! Sure, battery drainage is pretty common. I found a thread saying that I should open PC Companion 2.1 and repair my phone, but when I get to the part where I hold the back button and plug it in, my laptop gets a message saying there is no update found, even though I clicked repair. Any idea on whats going on?
Have you unlocked your bootloader and what firmware or rom are you in?
Sent from my LT18i using XDA
The bootloader is not unlocked, and I'm using the official Sony Xperia Arc S ICS 4.0.3 firmware
If you can't get the official method to work, perhaps you'd be better downloading the official firmware .ftf and applying it via flashtool. Both can be found under the development forum.
Meant to say, you don't have to unlock the bootloader to do it this way, as it's still the official firmware.
How do I unlock the bootloader/root? I wanna do this:

Hi all,
PC companion detect a new FW for my arc. The ICS, great, but :
PC companion does not allow me to update because my system if modified (?)
I previously downgrade (?) from 4.0.2.A.0.69 to 62 and now I wonder what should I do to upgrade to ICS?
I've read lot of topic but I'm not able to understand either what is a boot unlock, I should I have to do to unlock, what is CFW of I don't know what.
As you can read, I'm a noob and english is not my mother tongue
Any help is welcome
If you have an unlocked bootloader?? If so dont update via PC companion. It will cause problems.
If you want to upgrade to ICS , jsut download the official ICS (.431) tft file and flash it with flash tools(locked/unclocked) and it shd take you to ICS.
I 've try many things and as a result I thing my bootloader is unlocked
(I used flashtools and a tft file from this forum)
So if I understand, I need to do the same for ICS.
I hope I will find a ICS to flash
Thank you for your answer
Just being able to use Flashtool or flashing .ftf doesn't mean that your bootloader is unlocked. Because even those on locked bootloaders can use it.
If you're not certain whether you unlocked your bootloader or not, then there's a good chance that your bootloader is STILL locked.
And you can find the stock ICS ROM in this thread. I'd suggest going with General Global World as there's little bloatware and performance is good.
Cheers!
Thank you for the link.
Not sure about unlocking effectively. I've try the official sony method using the url and emei but seems unsiccessfull.
I will try will GGW and maybe trying to remove boatware on a second times
TY!!!
PC Companion causes problems when trying to update to ICS.
Better use SUS (Sony Update Service).
succeed using flashtool and LT15i_4.1.B.0.431_Generic Global World.ftf from the link above!
Don't know what is teh SUS, but my next step is remove bloatware
Iv been going around a few posts and there have been issues like updating with PC Companion and how they have failed to do so.
In my opinion i think updating with pc companion is bad for e.g. updating from GB to ICS lemme tell you some problems i have seen that people have wrote sometimes when iv been browsing through forums
-Arc/Arc S wasnt recognized
-Update wasnt found
-Update wouldnt install
-Problems with the ROM when updating to ICS
what is your opinion of pc companion?
No issues.
Some people face issues because they dont know the terms of pc companion update...
Typed down from the sky with sexy LT15i
A lot of issues with pcc is that when people moved from gb to ics they had modded there phones, so when pcc starts to install it detects custom ROM so won't run/ install
Pcc is good if you need to repair rom out get back to stock.
I personally use flashtools with the roms posted on xda.
Sent from my LT15i using xda premium
people get such error becoz they forgot to re-lock the bootloader
unlocking and re locking bootloaders is such a pain in the ass, easier to just flash the update ftf file.
hi,
I got myself a sony ericsson xperia arc s
bought it in a store, doesnt belong to any carrier (I live in israel)
I tried upgrading to LT18i_4.1.A.0.562_NCB build,
but during the flashing process it gave me an error...
ERR_SEVERITY="MAJOR";ERR_CLASS="MEMORY_CLASS";ERR_STATIC="HASH_VER";ERR_DYNAMIC="Final data verification failed
the installation didnt go through and when i tried turning on the phone it showed the "SONY" logo, and then a symbol of a triange and "!" and a symbol of a phone - then shuts down.
I tried to flash it again but nothing helped,
eventualy I downloaded LT18a arc s_2.3.4, 4.0.2.A.0.42_Generic USA Build
and flashed it, everything works "like a charm"
but I want to put ICS on it.... any suggestions? anything I could have done wrong?
B.T.W
in the "about phone" my model number is lt18a, and on the back of the phone its written lt18i
so which one is it?
the in advance, I realy hope its the right forum....
seems like u have older version of flashtools...to flash ICS, use the latest flashtools. older version cant flash ICS..and make sure data verification is unchecked..
and it really doesn't matter if it says lt18a or 18i...maybe u flashed lt18a firmware...u need to flash lt18i firmware...
it was clearly mentioned when .562 came out officially, that final verification should be unchecked....while flashing thru flashtool (a version below v.8)
so anyone else?
the two of you gave me 2 different answers,
I didnt use an older version of Flashtool, im using the latest 0.9
any other suggestions? I just dont want to mess up the phone...
why dont you try the latest 4.0.4 firmware?
do you think it will work? im afraid it would give me that weird screen again and I wont be able to turn on the phone again,
if im currently on a 2.3.4 usa generic, can flash the latest cm7? or jjhybrid aswell? or do i need to be on 4.0.4 build before i do it?
ok, so I downloaded LT18i_4.1.B.0.431_(1254-2184)
if i understand correctly its the latest 4.0.4 for xperia divices
my device SI is (1254-1958)
Im currently using (2.3.4, 4.0.2.A.0.42_Generic USA)
My device is rooted thx to DooMLoRD's rooting tool, and of cource its bootloader is unlocked.
so in anyones opinion, can I just flash the generic rom thats listed above?
pls answer,
thnks
yea man..u can flash any .431 firmware...use the latest firmware with data verification unchecked
Ok, good news!
Managed to flash the latest FW! Am currently on 4.0.4
Everything is smooth! Battery life seems to be a bit better but only time will tell...
Anyway thx for every reply!
