Earlier this morning, I pulled out my phone to add something to the calendar, and I found that it had frozen. After ensuring that the power button didn't work, I pulled the battery and rebooted. It came up fine, except that the long presses on the physical keyboard have now stopped working. The SYM key also provides "\", rather than the expected behavior. The FN button in combination with keys still works, but I can't get accented characters like åäö, which was working before.
I tried reflashing my current keymap, but no dice.
I tried changing the keyboard language to something else, but no dice.
Has anybody had a similar issue before, and how did you solve it?
What rom do you use?
Also, double-check lang&input settings.
I'm using this ROM: [ROM][14-04-2012][Sense 4.0A][ICS][IceZSense beta 2 | HTC One V Port], http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1555309
I've used it for a fairly long time, and the keymap has worked fine since the pre-release of beta2. It worked perfectly fine until this freeze and hard reboot.
I guess I could re-flash the rom, and wipe my settings, but ideally I want to avoid that. While I've backed my apps at least up with Titanium Backup, I don't know about the system settings. Furthermore, it could be that any system settings that ARE backed up are causing this issue... =(
I tried changing the system language, both going from "English (Germany)" (my default) to "English (Sweden)" and "Swedish (Sweden)". Neither brings any changes.
I can't change the hardware keyboard layout, as only "English" is available.
Some keys, when held down, cause the letter to be repeated. Others simply cause the letter to appear and then nothing happens. There seems to be no reason why certain letters would behave this way. It's always the same letters, though. My guess is that letters that have multiple options for long press are those who do not repeat.

The keyboard on my TP2 (Verizon) intermittently stops working (no key press registers, however the buttons on the face of the phone still do). After soft reset it works again. This is with different ROMs. I'm thinking, perhaps, there is a loose connection internally. It also has odd crashes, but this might only be a ROM problem as it is much less pronounced with the latest ROM I'm using (Elite team ROM).
Diagnosis? I'm reluctant to send it into Verizon for just this, as its only occasional. Wondering if anyone has experienced the same thing
I'm having this same exact issue. I'm using the latest ROM from HTC. Sometimes when I open the keyboard in an app, like texting or email, the keyboard is genreally non-responsive. When it's in this state, the enter key goes to windows Apps but all other keys failed to work. I also test by pushing the FN to see if the FN light tunrs on.
What's strange with mine is the keyboard will work when it's open like for phone use, but when open with an app like text/email/bing, it doesn't...
Like previous poster, not sure if hardware ro what...
This may not have anything to do with your problem, but..
I have the PTT button on my tilt2. I have a case that wasn't designed to encompass that button, so it gets covered up (I had a find time finding a case that did actually fit!)
I have the PTT button assigned to do nothing, but with it being pressed down, it makes my keyboard non-responsive as well as disabling the arrows keys on my touchscreen. It will however work for a while after restarting my phone, but it always goes back to the same thing.

Thank you very much for posting this. I do have the same exact setup, I have the PTT button unassigned and I too have a cover that covers it. So maybe it's pressing it down causing the problem.
I hope this is it and really appreciate your post...
UPDATE:
Sweet, I just checked things out. removed the cover and it would the keyboard doesn't go non-responsive when I push the PPT button, and works when I don't...
By George, I think you got it!!!!
GREAT!!!!
My phone backs up and resets overnight, and I woke up this morning to check email etc and noticed that the 4 hard keys on the front of the phone were all acting funny.. End key doesn't beep, send key didn't open the dialer, Okay button didn't close the current window.. then I found the PTT key didn't do anything either.. However, the Windows key DOES!
Hosed around for a while, launched AEButtonPlus to check it out, reset a few times, yanked the battery, etc.... Nothing. So I went back into AEButtonPlus to see what happens if I add a button and hit the Phone button and it pops up 00ED. Weird.. So I went looking into the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Keys entries, looks fine as far as I can tell... Got curious and launched the Buttons preference, looks okay in there, except strangely the last screen for holding the End button has *no* selection, normally it has the two radio options, with more radio options below the second one, none selected..
So then I exit back out of the Buttons apps and are hosing around and find the buttons are magically working again. Soft reset, etc, all is fine!?
AEButtonsPlus got confused?? Nope, at some point I removed it from Startup and soft reset, was the same. And now that it's working again, all my settings in it are fine.
I am using QuickMenu attached to the Win key, so perhaps why that kept working?
Very strange.. At least it's back now, and I (think?) I know a workaround if it happens again, launch the Buttons preference.
This ever happened to anyone else?
same problemo

Yours fixed by launching the buttons setting? I don't know if that's what fixed it, but it seems like it went away after that, perhaps a few more soft resets.
since the gingerbread update the hardware keyboard of my desire z is unusable.
there are some keys that do strange things when I press them, I have not changed any settings since the update.
I'm talking about this:
when I press "G" my phone automatically goes to gmail
when I press "S" my phone goes to my messages
when I press "B" it goes to my browser
I tought about shortcuts but in the menu there I can't see any shortcuts dedicated to this keys.
anybody an idea how to fix?
other people having the same problem?
I've ran into this a couple of times as well, as far as I know it's supposed to be a feature rather than a bug. Try pressing "FN" and then "SYM" and go back to composing your message, this usually fixes things for me.
As this has been answered a bunch of times....
Settings -> Applications -> Quick launch.
Remove every shortcut and you're done

While that does address the issue at hand, my question is how did they get activated, I never had this problem before i updated to 2.3.3.
I have no idea either. The quick launch settings are there when you first flash a rom. The strange thing is they go crazy and start working without the need to press the "search" button on the keyboard...
I have been on CM7 for the longest time and haven't updated to a newer nightlies for a the past couple of weeks, but I am having the same issue.
UPDATE:
Tried pressing the search button on the keyboard a couple times and it is now working fine. I guess the search button was "stuck"? Funny because I never used the button before.
My keyboard has randomly disappeared.
When I long press the input box, nothing comes up. There are no keyboards listed in the settings menu.
I rebooted normally and also pulled the battery.
I have installed Better Keyboard and I was able to get it to come up after a reboot but it is still the only keyboard that shows up. I really like the stock HTC keyboard and would like to get it back.
Has anyone has this happen or have any ideas?
Maybe you can do a restore from boot loader.
My last backup was September 9th. I'd really prefer to not have to recover a backup or factory reset.

does the keyboard f/c??
try holding the menu button to bring keyboard up...
Go into settings, Lang&Keyboard and see if you have something installed thats taking over.
Like andybones said long pressing the menu button in some roms will bring up the keyboard no mater what is on the screen.
I have 3 aftermarket keyboards (FlexT9, Swiftkey X, & Thumb Keyboard 4) installed on my DInc2 for different things I do each one is better than the other, and long pressing the field I am typing in gives the "Input method" popup so I can swap keyboards on the fly. Not sure why yours isnt showing up.
Might also try to see if the "stock HTC keyboard" you like so much is installed if its not that might be your problem. check under setting/applications/manage application in the "all" tab not sure what the HTC keyboard is listed as, but my ASOP rom has a "Android Keyboard" in there.
Also just clearing the cache would be a good start it you have a custom recovery installed that would be the easiest way to do that.
Hi,
I have a rooted 4.6.1 fire phone with Xposed, and I was wondering if it is possible to remap the phone's camera button to another camera application
I have already briefly tried remapping with the additions module, but it didn't recognise the key.
Cheers,

I tried some apps (unfortunately they were a bit "old": 2011/'12) which can map buttons to apps, none worked really, except one was promising but I couldn't finish testing because the xxxxxx320 version had some Amazon voodoo going on, I'm not even going into details.
I will go back on 820 and edit this post when I'm done testing. Btw. I guess you saw the threads here on XDA about hardware key mapping, press buttons to run a script (to launch an app), etc.?
edit: "Home2 Shortcut" was unsuccessful. The app is from 2011 and made for Android 2.x. I could select and configure everything I wanted but nothing happened.
Same problem, as seen from CM11
Home2 worked for me, using CM11. Requires a long press, and can't seen to use it as if hoped (as a back button, to let me kill the on-screen buttons) but it's something.
Tried some other older apps, as you mentioned: KeynumberTracker showed key # 358, but the associated ButtonRemapper app doesn't give that as an editable option.
