[Q] IPSEC VPN (tun.ko) - HTC One X

I'm trying to connect my phone up to my works Cisco VPN.
I've read online that I need a compiled version of tun.ko kernel module in order for it to work. I've checked in /system/lib/modules/ and can't see it in there.
There are instructions online for compiling it which I wouldn't mind doing but I'm guessing this will have to wait until HTC release the kernel sources for the One X(?)
Can I use the module from another phone running the same kernel version?
EDIT: Sorry just done some more reading and found out tun.ko is baked into ICS so this can't be the problem I'm having

Did you manage to get this working? I am trying to connect to a L2TP/IPsec PSK VPN and I keep getting a timeout.
This has been working for the past 2 years on my gingerbread Desire HD.
I think it's to do with this issue:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=23124
but if anyone knows of a fix that would be great?

i need this tooo ,, but without root please >>>

tun.ko for kernel 2.6.29-36d5cb8d (Stock 2.1 firmware)

Hi everyone!
Just wanted to ask if anyone could upload their tun.ko for the said kernel. I'm trying OpenVPN and it is one of the requirement for the program to run.
Thanks a lot in advance!

You can't build a loadable kernel module without recompiling the kernel, hence theoretically you must also change the kernel....
I think that the stock kernel has this model built inside the kernel, so you should be able to just run OpenVPN and it should work, no need to load anything.
If this still does not work for you, look at the FlyKernel from my signature, it should solve the problem for you (if you try it and there are problems let me know on it's thread).
Thanks for the reply! I cant find tun.ko anywhere so I guess it is missing from the official rom. Im getting tired of the stock rom anyway so maybe its time to load up some custom prepared eclair or froyo.;-) i'll try cronos droid as im curious of what divx library is for. Maybe it can paly divx natively? Anyway, thanks again!

I'll try to clarify what I tried to say above: To the best of my knowledge there is no tun.ko in the official ROM. This is the way it should be. And yet openVPN will still work for you. Did you try to use OpenVPN and have some problem with it?
hey, thanks for taking time helping me out.
I was able to install openvpn. I can enable openvpn too, however, may problem is I can't use my openvpn configuration. For some reason, I can't make my openvpn configuration enabled. No error whatsoever. When I click the check mark for the configuration, it just blinks. Here's my hunch, In the tun module settings, there is this option: "path to tun module" which I dont know where to point to since the stock kernel does not have tun.ko. I downloaded a couple of tun.ko that I saw here and a couple of others I found using google. But since these are all not for the kernel that I have, it all didn't work. what do you think should I do?

Ok, I was sure for some reason that openVPN should work well with the stock kernel (personally I don't use VPN so can't really check it myself).
I think your best bet now is to try a different kernel. You can try my kernel from my signature (flykernel) which should work on almost any ROM. Or if you where planning to checkout different ROMs, go for it and hopefully it will work for there.
just finished reading your kernel details and it sounds interesting! I'll give it a try now.
and yea, thanks for the help and for your kernel.

[Q]Problem with WiFi

So, ever since I upgraded to 2.2.1 (yes the official one, because I didn't check >-<), I've been experiencing problems with my WiFi.
I can't seem to connect to it. It says it's connected, but nothing.
A sorta fix was using WeFi, but even then there's like a 60% chance it won't connect.
Any help?
Try wifi fixer, it helped me while i have problems with wifi

Actualy, I already fixed it by using a static IP adress, but thanks for your effort
Wifi n
I beg your pardon but I have a problem with wifi which could be answered in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=995301
but I can't post there, cause I have no permission. I'm a newbie that does't post too much. That's my first one.
I rooted my wildfire to overclock cpu, I didn't want to change stock rom, so flashed nfinity kernel mc4. Usually I link to 4 wifi servers. After nfinity installation I can't link one of the 4 servers anymore. Is a free access server (named netgear, this factory produces advanced wifi routers I saw). I think the problem could be a question of wifi mode disabled after kernel flashing. Could someone confirm me wildfire uses all b/g/n wifi modes and nfinity kernel disables the n mode? Very pleased if you can give me another explaination of the problem.
Thanks.
Edit: anyway I flashed HDCR v4.1 kernel and now wifi server is accessible again.

tun.ko for dinc2?

Does anyone know if any of the kernels out so far have a working tun.ko for them? Or perhaps someone has a working module?
Check out CM7. I successfully used get-a-robot-vpnc on CyanogenMod 7 for the HTC Incredible 2 INC2: V7.1.0-Beta1 (3 July 2011) which requires tun.ko to function.

Thanks! I'll check it out again. I put it on yesterday but it felt like it killed my battery quick even after tweaking the settings. I'll give it more time this time around.
Here is a stock kernel with TUN and CIFS modules.
Need to be S-OFF to install with clockworkmod.
Enjoy!!
*EDIT*
I suggest wiping the cache/dalvik cache before rebooting.
*EDIT AGAIN*
Pulled kernel - see my camera problem thread
Did some hacking and here is a tun.ko module for the stock GB sense ROM and doesn't break the camera! This worked on my device (RMK ROM).
Let me know if anyone has any problems insmod'ing it.
Thanks, Matt.
mattwood2000, would you mind sharing the steps you used to get tun.ko loaded? Did you simply copy to the system\lib\modules and run insmod?
I tried your earlier kernel and I too had the camera bug, however I was able to get vpn working with it. I am using the ROM located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1166582. I was able to download before the thread was closed and it works great, no problems. I have been running it for a week. It did not include the social network apps but I just copied them from another Sense ROM.
Thanks in advance.
Thread moved to proper forum.
Yes just copy to /system/lib/modules if you want it to autoload from any application that calls it. You can always insmod it from the sedate for testing though.

ARHD 6.1.1 and orbot

Hi everyone. I've been using ARHD roms since for ever. But I have a single problem. I can't manage to get orbot connected on this roms.
It does work on leedroid or miui just not any ARHD build. Not even on sensation.
I need help to find what's the thing that blocks orbot so I can desable it or fox it.
It keeps saying ( waiting. Setting up control) and doesn't connect.
I've tried reverting host files as mike asked me but didn't help.
I need orbot to open android market in my country and I've searched a lot with no luck for this problem. Plz help guys !
(Orbot free app for private tunneling like vpn etc under tor project )

Same here. And I wish that I have seen your thread yesterday, before I had flashed the ROM and started to customize it, as it would have saved me some time as I also need a combination of Orbot and Market Enabler to access the Market.
I was searching for a solution to this issue and found multiple people asking about it in the ARHD thread but no solutions or workarounds so far.
I've been using CM7 ROMs since I got the device and wanted to try something different but it seems like I'm gonna have to pass on ARHD for this reason.
I was trying the latest LeeDroid ROM (V4.0.0 Beta) and I'm getting the same behaviour there as well.
Same here We need a Kernel with iptables from klquicksall

[Q] kernel(s) with wifi N support?

at firts i am running cm7.2_rc_buzz_kang(03-14-2012),with original radio(never had to flash another, just few times sometimes reflashed to make gps work),custom mtd
i would like to ask devs for this question, but i cant, so i try at least here...
some time ago our router at home has been changed and so has wlan...and that started to cause me problems, because i cant set router up for my phone to provide "g" wifi which works flawlesly..(actually,discovering,that everything is caused by "n" wifi provided by router was very funny, because it was the last thing i thought i could be ) however..after some googling and much xda reading i found app called Wifi fixer, which in most cases fixes my problem, but it doesnt work in 100% cases, and its not the "coolest" solution
few days ago i found Sympnotics kernel, and flashed it,one of reasons was its declared "n" wifi fix, which didnt work...i know, its beta,im not complaining, just saying what i found...btw thats the only thing, that is not good FOR ME on that kernel
so i thought to look for another...
i found infinityplay, which didnt work in "my" way, neither did "official" arco68s,neither last hcdr.kernel_v4.2...
the only one i found working is HCDR.Kernel_v4..
my next idea was (i am noob,so sorry... ) to copy bcm4329.ko (which should be wifi module of kernel) from HCDR.Kernel_v4 to SympKernV4.1..that (surprisingly ) didnt work...at least i tried...
so there is my question...(in this moment, youre the only person who i know is developing kernel, most for Sympnotic) would it be possible to have your kernel with hcdr.kernel_v4 wifi module??
if i have known to do this on my own,i wouldnt bother to ask here, but i have no idea how to build my own kernel, even how to take one, change wifi module and again make flashable zip...
sorry for my english, its not my native language
thx you all here
edit:i have the same problem with cm9,bulit does not matter...btw with hcdr.jacobs v4 wifi does not work...
