This may be a stupid question, but the radios listed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970809 are usable on the desire Z? The newest one, for example, is from the G2, if I understand correctly....
Yes they are, I've flashed a few different radois from that thread on my desire z

Thanks for your reply. I see from your signature that you use the ILWT CM7. I have a question about this. I am new to rooting, so please excuse my questions if they seem stupid . I tried to install the ILWT CM7 but the 4EXT recovery manager said that signature verification failed. Of course, I turned verification off and it installed, but it this failure a problem? The official CM7 installs with verification on (so I guess it has a valid signature).
This shouldn't be happening. Have you tried downloading the file again?
You're using the 4EXT Recovery Manager, I suppose that it is the paid application the 4EXT Recovery dev is offering? If so, have you tried installing ILWT from inside recovery? (Make sure sig verification is on, of course.)

Sorry for the late reply but I had some problems with my computer. I downloaded the file twice and I tried the installation from recovery, not from the app.
I've installed both ways (inside recovery and from the app) and never had a problem with signature verification. Since you've tried redownloading I would suggest checking the md5 sum after downloading(if possible) just to triple check to make sure the download is proper. Other than that make sure you've got the most updated recovery, app and ROM.

You might want to reinstall or update your recovery. If that doesn't fix it, then the dev probably forgot to sign the file.
Done that also. Switched to ClockworkMod and then back to 4ext. The issue remained. So I stick to the official CyanogenMod for now, waiting for the ics release (I hope). Thanks for the replies.

I have searched on google and through each droid forum site I have been sent to from google trying to fix the problem that i am having. I am currently trying to intall Incredible re imaginedv2.3 on my HTC Incredible. I have tried installing through both ROM manager and through the actual recovery. When I go through ROM manager it fails on the install reboots my phone and freezes at the HTC logo. The same thing happens with the actual recovery. Fails on install asks for the update and it cant find the update.zip file. It then freezes on reboot. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong.
Sounds like a bad\corrupt download. Check your copy's MD5 with the ROM developers and make sure its not corrupt. Try downloading it again or download another ROM and try that.

its called incredibly reengineered actually lol
If youre trying it through revovery you need to "choose zip from sdcard" then scroll to downloads, using the update.zip is for something else

I have the zip on the root of my SD card. When ever I choose it it asks about the update.zip should I just hit no and ignore that step. I'm using the latest version of the clockworkmod. Version 3.0.5

Reengineered prefers. 92 HBOOT fwiw, but it will boot with an older version. That info is buried in the IncReEngineered thread. Plus, in recovery, you do NOT choose the option that says "apply update.zip", rather, you want the selection that lets you choose the zip file you want to apply.

i tired what you said and it just looped through the same steps. it repeatedly asks for the update.zip. i found something through google that said i should rename the ROM as update.zip and still no luck.
You need to download/flash 2.3.1 with cwm3.

I dont know if this will help at all but i tried to install the ROM again last night and it said at the end of the error (status 7). Im currently looking it up but would you guys know anything about it?
Are you sure your checking apply zip from SD card and not update.zip. if you have a recovery image you should restore it and flash the rom thru rom manager

^ that, and if not, flash back to CWM 2.5.1.2, try installing then. I had to do that when I installed that rom. I know he updated it to work with 3.0, but try anyway. If it works you just just upgrade to 3.0 after flashing the rom.
Ok I will try that and post back with the results

Still no luck I still get the status 7 error, and it aborts the install. I even downgraded to 2.5.1.2 and it still fails. I am starting to think that i should stay with the one that I am running for a while before i try it again.
I did some quick searching for status 7 and found alot of solutions. Not sure which direction to point you but some common themes were hboot, radio, and permission (make sure read write).... with a specific error u should be able to figure this out. Also a major problem lies with all zips in their scripting since CW recovery update(cwr3 uses edify). Incredibly reengineered zip may need to be updated to be compatible but u think it'd be more common problem if this was the case.
Ok. I will look into all of them and see witch one works. Thank you for all the help.

You sure you have s-off? Check this out.....also make sure SD formatted fat32. I've seen it recommended to wipe twice without leaving recovery(worked for some)....if you try all you can and are still stuck pm koush. He'll set you straight
Is the SD card formatted as FAT32?
Does the SD card have ample free space?
Is the radio (baseband) version on your device at least 2.x?

I reformatted my sd card to FAT32 and it fixed the error. the only thing that i ran into this time is that it failed copying over at a certain line is that because i need more space on my sd card?
Pretty much as per title. Trying to back up my current system and all seems well until it gets to:

Any Ideas or something simple I have missed?

hi, can say that amon ra 2.0.1 work fine with pvt4 as mine is pvt4 with amonra.

amonra2.0.1
hope this help
Nope. Tried 2.5.0.7 via Rom manager which I always used prior to using alpharev, and doesn't shift past the same point. So, three follow on questions.
1. Do 'fake flash' recoveries no longer work alongside permanent recoveries?
2. Anymore suggestions on another recovery? Prefer not to permanently flash if can be avoided as I don't want it FUBAR'd and it would be just my luck.
3. Anyway of tracking this .apk down to remove it? Tried astro and file manager and they can't find it

Not sure if this is a lot of help but you could try root explorer to locate the file.
When I switched to it from astro, it showed lots more files and folders. It's £2.50 from market Also, may be worth googling the filename?
Hope you sort it!

Use Amon Ra recovery if you're using clockwork.

No actually its from this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715485
I actually just scrolled through the thread and it said it doesn't work with Clockwork Mod 3.0.0 but it will work with amon_ra recovery but when I installed that from the market it wouldn't work. It says you can only use this feature with VaelPak (which is the only app for the results when I searched amon_ra in the market) and is what I downloaded. It also says if you are running Vaelpak you did not allow settings root when it prompted and to purchase Rapid Reboot from the market (which I did also). So when I tried to reboot into recovery from this Rapid Reboot app (which I had to pay for) it still boots me into Clockwork Mod! UGH! some of this stuff is so frustrating!
You can install Amon Ra in hboot. Go to their webpage for instructions. Clockwork fails more than it succeeds besides downloading roms. If you flash new radios, Wimax, etc with clockwork it won't work. Learn to flash manually and with both recoveries to achieve optimum results. Here's a link for the newest radios:

Damn, hard day?
I don't think you'll be finding amonRA recovery in the market.
Go to his thread, and DL the pc36img version of amonRA 2.3. Then (as other poster said) drop it in root of sd card, and reboot. The file (recovery) is actually posted in 2 of the 3 threads above yours. Check the thread labeled "bootloop, no recovery".
But I would still go to amons thread to check the md5 on it (astro file explorer displays md5s if you need).
Also, if you're using CWM now, you're probably using rom manager as well. If so, I believe you can scroll to bottom (in rom manager) and select 'install alternate recovery'.
Good luck

Got it. Thanks so much!
Just tried to go back to a fresh backup(30 min old) and I get the message "Error restoring /system!" after a while. Happends on all my backups, with latest Rom manager and latest recovery. I saw a thread somewhere about deleting su-backup, file is not found when trying to with adb so I guess I don't have it. Couldn't find anything else about it, what can I do?
I had a similar problem. I solved it by using ext4 recovery instead of cwm.

You can't just restore the backup? or your phone isn't turning on and stuck on a white screen?
It's just the backup that fails, luckily I still had all ROM files on my SDcard so I flashed Ultimate Ace and now thats what I'm using. Root is back as well, however I still very much need all my apps and settings.
Would you please post a guide on ext4 recovery? I've gotten used to CWM, can you have them both at the same time?

To be honest there both pretty much the same as each other. I just use ext4 because ARHD flashed it when I first installed it. You cant run both together.

Same stupid error with 4EXT
There has to be some solution to this? I seriously can't be the only one with failed restores?
Is it every backup that fails? Or just the one. It could just be a bad backup. As for getting apps etc back, there's an app called "app extractor" (search all one word) which can actually pull your apps and data from a nandroid backup. I believe titanium backup can do this also. Hope this helps.

I just restored everything with TB, forgot it existed. But still, now I'm afraid of changing roms since backups doesn't work. And yes it's all backups, even my original rom backup which has worked before, I'm suspecting the issue came along with cwm 5

you should use twrp.. check the md5 of your download after you download it for accuracy. try that.. if it doesnt work u can always flash cwm again
Flash in twrp. Get twrp by downloading goo manager app and selecting install open recovery
Also are you grtiing a status 7 error?

For whatever reasons, sometimes when flashing in cwm or twrp, you will have issues and installing the other custom recovery will allow you to flash the desired ROM. you obviously then have the option to return to the custom recovery you were previously running either because you prefer it or all your backups were made in it.
Alright thanks ill try it tonight, hopefully it works

Some ROm's are picky or you have a bad download. Issues with downloading that rom seem quite common. I tend to lean more towards android file host than anything.

Similar problem
Hey guys
I've gone through all the steps as instructed, but can't install HD RSL15 successfully. I downloaded the installation file from a mac which then automatically unzips the folder. Zipped it back up with 7zip and threw it on the phone. I went through all the prescribed steps using TWRP 2.6 and AndroidUnite's video on youtube (How To Install TWRP Recovery And Flash Custom ROM) as example . This is the 2nd time Ive downloaded the file and I switched over from CWM based on this thread's recommendations.
When it comes to installing the ROM the window ends up looking like this:
Checking for MD5 file...
Skipping MD5 check: no MD5 file found.
Error flashing zip...
Updating partition files...
FAILED
Have I done something wrong during the previous steps (flashing, installing recovery) or does it have something to do with the method of zipping the files (tried fastest and store as compression options, doing store makes the file unreadable by the phone during recovery mode)? Please help
