Changing customization number. - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys
Remember on the x10 we had that method to debrand or change region? Well I wanted to change the number on mine to change it back to generic uk. At the moment I dont know which region it is. When I flashed via wotan I selected generic central europe one.
My question is if I change the number in build.prop and reboot will it change to generic uk? Or is there another step. I really dont wanna reinstall because ive got doomkernel and too many apps and messages etc

[Q] r800a loading a r800i generic rom

Hey I am new to all this so I may get the terminology wrong so be kind.
I just recently bought the r800a variant of this phone from gsmnation and it seems as though this is the rodgers version. It came with heaps of rodgers bloat ware. I am in Australia and the reason I bought it was to work on Telstras 3g network and from the information on gsmnation the r800a is the only one to work with there network, the r800i will not. I believe it is the 850 band for 3g.
http://www.gsmnation.com/sony-ericcson-xperia-play-r800a-nam.html
Now when i was creating this post it showed me this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122643
Which my interpretation is that i can put on a generic rom like the one is this thread http://forum.xda-developers.co/showthread.php?t=1043630
And then all I would need to do is change the apn settings (no idea what this is, and they dont tell me how to do this) and the 3g will work.
My question is, can I put a r800i generic rom (as i cant find a generic r800a rom) and have Telstra 3g work on my phone? This is really doing my head in. I really want all this rodgers stuff gone and I hear the gereric rom gets a 25sec boot time and doesn't have the rodgers boot screen or all the crap.
P.S I was also reading that the rodgers bootloader is locked, is this a problem
hey
im on telstra, but i bought a new telstra handset off ebay for $445(since they can have unlocked bootloaders) all you need to do is flash the world generic and then in settings in the sony ericsson tab click internet settings and boom, it will work, i havent had to manually configure telstras apns at all since ive had the phone.

So just by clicking on the settings tab -> Internet settings it will automatically change the r800i rom to work with the 850 gsm of telstra?
from what im told flashing the generic firmware doesnt actually flash the phones radio, and the phone just uses it as normal, apns are handled the same way regardless of the carrier, so all the phone does is look for the settings to connect to telstras data network and then it works, ur phone will still say its an r800i but it works fine, dont worry about that.
Yep totally fine to flash generic r800i firmware and still access all telstra's network and remove all Roger's bloat. For APNs, if it doesn't automatically set it up, just go to http://configure.telstra.com.au/telstra/index.jsp and follow the prompts.
Has for me, Ive flashed fresh firmware about 5 timeson this phone and never has to do anything more than click internet settings, data connection pops up within several seconds and its good to go, can always use apns manually if you want though.
Thank you all for your responses!!! I will give it a shot tonight and let you know how I fair. Thanks again!
OK so i think i am doing something seriously wrong.
I am trying to get the bootloader unlocked following this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1034087
for starters I don't know how to install the drivers, its just a rar archive and when i extract it there is no read me. any help here would be most appreciated.
Also I can't get into fastboot mode. When its off i hold down the search button and connect the cable and a green led comes on not a blue one. I tried the trick with taking out the battery, nothing has worked. I then read a few post saying some phones you cant get into fastboot mode, cause they are sim locked. But my phone is not sim locked as its working with a telstra(australia) sim and it a rodgers(Canada) phone. Or does sim lock mean something different? Please can some one help. I will donate as i am running out of hair to pull out!
You don't need to unlock your bootloader at all! Just use flashtool with the UK generic ftf
1. Grab the firmware FTF file from here-> http://www.multiupload.com/MDS10FFGTT
2. Get the flashtool (credits to Androxhyde and Bin4ry) from here-> http://www.multiupload.com/7H4JT35B6G
3. Name a folder "flashtool" on your desktop, then extract the flashtool's files to it.
4. Extract the FTF file, and put it in desktop/flashtool/firmwares
5. Run X10Flashtool.exe, press the "flash" button, and select the UK generic firmware. Press OK.
6. Follow the instructions on the screen, and you're done.
Go here if you want to root it and update it afterwards-> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116090
thanks you very much for your response I will try that tonight!

OK so I grab the firmware FTF file.
I grab the flashtool and extracted it to flashtool on my desktop
I extracted the ftf file to the /flashtool/firmwares
this is where it got hard
I ran the X10Flashtool.exe, and it asked me to select my phone, play wasn't on the list so I selected x10.
I clicked flash and selected the firmware and then it told me to connect my phone. My phone was off and I held the search button down and plugged in the usb cable(i kept holding the search button down untill the charinging logo appeared on screen). And nothing happened.
This is seriously doing my head in!!!
You need to hold down the back button, not the search one.

Unlocking the bootloader is what requires the search key. Flashtool is the back key. I can see how it would be easy to confuse them.

You cant unlock the bootloader on a rogers phone as it is factory locked. There is a gentleman on these fourms who has the tools to unlock the bootloader remotely but it will cost you a few bucks to do. Search for the thread if your intested, but dont bother trying to get into fastboot without him, you cant

[Q] a couple questions before flashing arc...

I'm planing on flashing my arc, but I've a few questions first.
the method I'm using is via wotan because I heard is the easiest one (I know i've to paid, but is just 1.99 euro).
I have a xperia arc lt15a 2.3.4 firmware .62, directly from my carrier, ICS hasn't been out for my country yet, I want to flash to the Generic Trade US (4.0.4) (LT15a) once that I flash to that version via wotan it will be compatible with my carrier?? my carrier is from central america and my bootloaders are locked and I dont want to "lock" my phone. I dont care if I will still be only compatible with my carrier, but I just want to make sure that I would still be able to make and receive calls...
another question is: if I dont like it ( ICS ), can I go back using PCC?? or from now on I just have to use tools like flashtool or wotan to change version??????
You can flash 4.0.4 with flashtool, it's free.
And no , after you flash ics you can't go back to gb by pc companion , because your phone will be debranded, so pc companion will say that you have the latest firmware in your phone.
You can get back to gb , by flashing a gb rom by flashtool or using wotanserver.
but by flashing via wotan or flashtool it will not lock my phone and make it unable to detect my carrier (make calls, sms, etc..)??? because this happen to me once with my iphone that the jailbreak update the baseband and got myself a very expensive ipod

no. it depends upon ur region u choose in wotan.
better flash generic global world version ftf via flashtool.
its simfree & no problems.

Which stock firmware should i flash?

I am using LT18i (arc s) with
SI:1261-6337
Phone soft version: 1253-8238 Generic-user
File system: World .62
Cust. ver: 1254-2261
bought from Bulgaria but not branded. When I checked i saw that these numbers are Generic Trade Switzerland but on my box is written FR, DE, IT, but SI numbers for Central Europe are different. So if want to flash a firmware which one should I use - Generic World, Switzerland, Central Europe or? Is there any difference at all and which is best option for saving the warranty?
Either central europe or generic world... either way you can always go back to your original FW if something goes wrong
Go for world generic!
Most probably all the versions just include some bloatware and additional languages!
Ok then, but if I have to repair the phone in a service they will notice that I have changed the firmware. I want to root it but I have to flash .42 firm and then .62 again but how can I go back to may original firmware without recovery? I will be able to make a copy after rooting but then firmware won't be my original.

[Q] Flashing CDMA ROMs on R800x with operator different from Verizon

Hello, guys. I have one question about flashing any custom ROM on R800x with any other operator, not Verizon. Posted this question in [GUIDE] R800x owners - You got Custom ROM questions? I've got Answers! thread, bu no luck. So decided to try creating a new thread.
I'm from Ukraine, R800x was brought to me from USA this summer. I've unlocked my bootloader month ago, then I decided to use my R800x with our local operator Intertelecom. I had Paranoid Android installed in that time and tech support of Intertelecom had to roll back to stock firmware to get data and phone working, because Paranoid doesn't support it from the box. I have used phone for a couple of days, but then flashed MIUI from this topic and all my phone stuff (EvDO registration, phone number and all that CDMA stuff) gone because of flashing stock ftf with FlashTool.
So the question is: can i flash custom rom without erasing that CDMA network data? It depends on if I flash stock ftf or not? Different wipes in CWM doesn't erase that information? I just don't know where all theese things are written in R800x.
Thanks for any reply.
u need to ask your telco carrier to make the setting OTA for you,
so u can simply dial *228 after flashing ROM to re-config your CDMA setting (this is what i did now) - i'm using R800x verizon in Indonesia with local carrier
custom ROM will remove DIAG mode on the phone, thus manual setting won't work either,

[Q] How to trick Sony Update service to install an specific version

Hi,
I updated my phone to a Unbranded KK version while I was waiting for may Sim unlock code to arrive.
It finally arrived but now, when I put a new SIM in it, it doesn't show the window asking for the unlock code.
I tried with many versions from various countries with and without rooting, but it always "pretends" that I don't have any SIM in the phone.
I nearly out of options and I'm not even sure that I don't have a faulty phone
I was thinking in put back the original firmware (1280-7858 1177) for see it makes a difference... but how can I get a hold on it????
I was thinking if there is a way to trick SUS into thinking that I have that version for it to download and install it.
Does any one know for to change the Customization number and the ID of a Z1 Compact???
Or some other way to deal with my problem?
Cheers
JDavi
