Hi
Iam a beginner at this but a got an answer on you threat when you posted the samsung galaxy gio mod with cyanogenmod 9.
I followed the link and you explaned how to flash and how to install that.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...05&postcount=4
Thanks very much.
But here are my questions, plz answer them all.
1. Whats the difference between flashing and rooting your phone? Do i need to root it before i flash it?
2. How can i erase the mod later if i dont want it anymore. maybe change back to samsung touchwiz?
3. What backup do i have to backup?
Is there any guide for that?
4. Is there any risk of damaging your phone if you root it or flash it? What could happen? And can you restore it to factory settings?
Thanks for the help man, i really appreciate it

1. Flashing mean u flash (upgrade or downgrade) ur OS version. Rooting mean u become a superuser for ur phone. If u don't know what is rooting for, u should looking into the forums...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1397120
2. Flash to stock rom and unroot ur phone.
3. On stock rom u can backup using KIES. Or native backup from phone. On custom rom u can used CWM to made nandroid backup. ( look into forums )
4. Yes, a risk always.. but as long u follow the step from, it won't hurt ur phone.

If you are a beginner, I suggest not to flash cm9.
Its in beta
I recommend to use stock first, root it and tweak it.

No. Look at the bug list.
Camera is a known problem
Gallery should work
Wifi is a fix for it

If your internal partition has Data++ or Stock hboot and your SD Card already has a SD-ext partition, you can flash the BCM ICS ROM available here. I have been using this for couple of weeks now and it is rather smooth and stable.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1403113
You can select the stock method for installation and activate apps2sd once the ROM has booted by going to Performance > Mounts2SDManagement.
Hope you can manage.
hi all, i really need a answer for this question....
i am ready with my first ROM , i followd some help page's and used dsixda android kitchen.
i have px-kernel and GingerBread 2.3.6. based on stock rom 2.3.6. with px-kernel and adrenaline engine modified.
but this is my first ROM and i am scared of trying to flash the ROM, i have flashed my GIO like 15 times but once (at the beginning ) i HARD bricked my phone with clockworkmod (choosing the wrong device...) since that i never used it again..
but now my question:
Can my phone HARD brick if the kernel or the rom isnt installed good???
Please answer this or i think i wont do it...
Thank's for the one that answer this toppic...
Bye

Hi ... I am new on android devices and I am facing problems with the GPS in my country (Jordan "in the middle east") it takes ages to connect the GPS with IGO software for example, and sometimes it doesn't connect at all ... I think the best solution is flashing new os on the device but I am confused and don't know what is the best custom rom! my current software is ICS 4.0.4 I927UCLJ3 ...I want everything work wifi, bluetooth, keyboard light... etc
can anyone help me with that... I tried many times to flash a new rom but the problem is with the kernel... when i flash the kernel something goes wrong and the mobile keeps restarting... could you help this matter... please with the download links :crying:
thanks.
I'm going to go out on a limb and guess you haven't done a search specific to the gps locking issue on ICS ...
assuming your phone is rooted i suggest you download es explorer.. you will need to modify /etc/gps.conf and sirgps.conf. the content can be found with a search..
otherwise revert back to stock gingerbread rom for everything to fully work.
Thx for reply... Yes u r ryt.. I am using cm 10.1 and there is a "sound bug" well i am waiting for the fix
