Hello,
I am using the cdma galaxy nexus on AOKP B31. Tried to find an answer through forum searches here, rootzwiki and google but no luck. If anyone can help or point me in the right direct, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Q: Is it possible to receive push notifications for google voice while using AOKP's power saver mode/turning data off when screen is turned off? Similar to Juice Defender's functionality. Sync on an interval works fine. I bounced around from roms, AOKP M2 to Gummy back to AOKP B31. I remember it working when I had M2.
If it helps, my settings are:
Screen off data action: Turn data off
Data action delay: Don't wait
Sync Action: Do nothing
Screen-Off Wifi: Do nothing
Synd Data Usage: Leave untouched
Sync mobile data preference: Prefer 3G... Accidently selected this.
Again, any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
Push notifications won't play nice with you toggling data connectivity - they'll still come through, but will be delayed (depending upon your interval).
A workaround I used was setting Google Voice to notify me of new messages via SMS - those always come through.
Well considering GV SMS is just data, and you're turning off data.... no, you won't get notifications (unless you have them forwarding to SMS your cell # like the above poster).

I'm trying to find an app which runs a server or something on the phone and is able to turn on the ringer.
I keep loosing my phone in my house and it takes me ages to find it again. Even calling myself doesn't work since sometimes the phone is in silent mode without vibration.
Is there an app on the market which remotely turns on the ringer (even the phone was in silent mode) and has a simple web interface? Lets say my phone is connected to Wifi or 3G, I type in the IP Adress of my phone in an internet explorer and click on "locate" or something
Thanks
Tasker can handle something like that. It's an amazing program, so worth the $5 (or $6 from the market), but you can download a 7 day trial from the website:
http://tasker.dinglisch.net/
You should be able to set up a task to turn on the ringer (or to play a song or tone or whatever) when a particular text string is sent to the phone. Or, presuming you have a landline, you can turn the ringer on when you call just from that line. Lots of ways to do it.
Have a look on the market for

A simple text can set off the ringer, enable gps and txt you location etc...

tasker sounds interesting, does it need root?
Wheres my Droid is exactly what I'm looking for, but it would be great if I could activate it by mail and not by phone only (cant send mails to a phone number in germany)
Tasker doesn't require root, I don't think there's anything it does that would require it (could be wrong, I do have root, but it's not listed as a requirement). I don't think it handles emails, though, either. But I'd say you can call it and use Tasker to handle the call from a specific number. I checked and nothing else comes to mind as a way to find it, but it's worth testing out if you think you can use Tasker for other things (I have alarms, various profile changes, app events, headphone plugins, etc) - with some work, it does replace several programs I was using. Haven't lost my phone, though
On the tasker website, it lists "Email (K9)" as a compatible event - does that mean emails through the Gmail App will work as well?
sorry to bring up an old thread, but is there an app that works stictly on WiFi only? I have an Android phone with no service and I would like a Find my phone app usable on WiFi
When I am at work, the signal is not great therefore my battery drain tends to be the worst during this time of day. It used to be that with by the time I unplugged my phone (5:45am) until the time I would leave work (3:30pm), I would have anywhere from 25% - 50% battery. I now turn off the DATA & SYNC options in my Notification Bar options and I have been leaving work with about 70% - 75% battery.
My question is;
DATA i am fairly certain is what allows the phone the ability to scan internet or do downloads of any kind. I can still get text messages and phone calls WITHOUT the DATA option enabled. Is there any other feature I am missing with the DATA option??
SYNC i actually have very little knowledge of. What is it about these two features that drain the battery so much faster??? DATA i can understand, but how far reaching and strenuous is the SYNC option, while enabled???
Thanks in advance gentlemen.......
Sync is what allows the phone to keep you Gmail account and contacts up to date with the Google servers.
If you turn off data, you effectively turn off sync as well, as you are cutting off anything that would require data use.
All email accounts won't refresh, notifications from apps like Facebook or Words With Friends won't occur, etc.
SMS will work because texts are sent and received via the voice radio, not the data radio. MMS won't work.

can anyone shed some light on what exactly Mobile Data On/Off does? I turned Mobile Data off and yet i still can make/receive calls, send/rcv texts, access inet, access the market, receive vmail notifications.
Also, GB allowed to turn "background data" off, which really helped preserve battery life by hours. Is there any type of option for this in ICS. turning background data off had the effects of stopping vmail notifications, wouldnt allow access to the market while off, and basically blocked alot of apps constantly updating
thanks
It allows you to keep up with your data usage .....if on it will show how much you have used and warn u if your coming close to what you set as a limit ....would be great on a carrier that throttles or you only have say 5 gb ..... All you have to do is go into system settings and scroll down to accounts and sync under personal and turn it off whatever you don't want to sync

Well mobile data on/off should do just that. Toggle your mobile data on and off.
Setting a mobile data limit will limit the amount of data used when it's enabled.
Hey y'all
I'm looking for an app that will switch my data on every 15 mins for a period of 2-3 mins.
Just need this to sync FB, Whatsapp, Gmail for any notifications as I do not like leaving my data on ALL the time & my work duzn't have wifi
Also, need it to not switch off when I manual toggle my data connection.
I've tried Autoconnect, Connection Commanders, Juice Defender, APNDroid, etc...not what i'm looking for (the closest is AutoConnect).
Also, would like to change my GB notifications bar (with settings) to the one as used by SG3...any one have any ideas on how to change?
Cmon guys...not one useful reply
I'd post this in a more relevant location, but y'know. Not allowed unless I spam the forum for post-count. Oh well.
First off, I'm using the latest nightly of this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2050948
Despite the thread title, it's now running Android 4.3.1, CM10.2, PA 3.99-RC2, AOKP jb-mr2, if any of that is important.
Next thing to mention, I have no cell/data service of any kind. Everything is strictly wifi only. Using two google voice numbers setup on the built-in sip/internet calling.
So here we go. Wiped my phone completely, installed above rom, and latest gapps, as usual. Installed a few basics(Swiftkey, Titanium, Tasker) and the installed Google Voice. Opened Voice+, selected my account. The native messaging app will now happily send SMS using google voice. So will any 3rd-party sms app I've tried(Go SMS, Handcent, etc.) My problem is, I set Google Voice to receive messages via the native app. Send myself an sms from another number, I get nothing. Changed Google Voice settings back to receiving sms via itself(the google voice app). Again, send myself a text... nothing. Until I manually open the google voice app. Then it does it's little refresh business, and bam. Up pops my text messages(within that app only). I've checked everything. Any auto-sync setting and background data settings that I can find are turned on. Wifi connection is active and internet works.
I just can't figure this out. Ideally I would like to receive my messages via the native app or handcent, but at this point it would be nice if I could get them at all, without having to manually open the google voice app to see if any decide to pop up. Was also hoping to stick with this rom, as it's the only I see with those latest versions I mentioned above. Particularly I wanted to use Voice+ rather than the extremely buggy and overpriced apps for integrating google voice sms.
Anyone know what's going on here, or how to fix it? Not really sure what other info to include, so I'm sorry if I've missed something important.
P.S. If my grammar sucks or I seems to be typing up half a thought, it's because it's 5am and I have been at this for many hours now.

Do you have you're phones sync on...might make a difference...since you're using WiFi.
Besides that..I would wipe cache of the app..if still buggy..wipe data and cache of the app...and reboot recovery and wipe cache and dalvik cache...you might even uninstall the app before the recovery wipes of cache and dalvik..then reinstall and set up...
Sorry I'm not more helpful..I don't use that set up...but I bet somebody with more experience will chime in here soon...

Yep, sync is turned on in every place I could find a setting for it. As for the other stuff, I've tried wiping cache and whatnot. I also wiped the entire phone several times and tried different roms. The one I mentioned above, the Dirty Unicorns rom, and now I'm on the official CM10.1.
*EDIT* Well this is embarrassing. And kind of confusing. Just for the sake of thoroughness, I went into my router's settings, and lessened the security to low, as well as turned on UPnP. Reset my phone's wifi, and now everything syncs instantly, including gvoice text messages. So now I have to wonder, what exactly was the problem. Is there a port that needs to be open on my router, does anyone know? Also, I'm wondering what that means when I want to use my phone in places with free wifi, like McDonald's or coffee shops. As I said, I'm strictly wifi here. Any input would be appreciated, but I guess my issue is semi-solved. Just wish I didn't have to lower my network security just to use my phone.
